Cherry Le did my makeup for a television premiere last week. It was my first time getting my makeup…read moredone since my wedding almost twelve years ago, and Cherry made this middle-aged mom feel glamorous and red carpet ready. I found Cherry on Yelp and messaged her just a few days ahead of the Tuesday night event. She responded with her quote and the relevant details, and after mulling over whether or not to spend the money, I secured the appointment with a deposit the night before. She only had a 1:00 slot available, but she was able to come to me, meeting me in my hotel room. She arrived right on time with an arsenal of beauty supplies. I liked her immediately. She was so friendly and energetic, and said flattering things about my skin, obviously music to my 39-year-old ears. I had a great time hanging out with her. She asked what I was looking for and I said I was walking a red carpet and just wanted to look good. She took me through her overall plan and started with my eye makeup, layering on colors and checking in to see if I was okay with the level of drama. I didn't know enough to weigh in and let her do her thing, and less than an hour later, I was fully dolled up. She even put fake eyelashes on top of my already fake eyelashes. To be honest, I was a little worried at first. I looked very dramatic for two in the afternoon, and I wondered if I'd let her go overboard. Once I was dressed and at the premiere, though, I felt fairly confident and comfortable and got lots of compliments. I walked the carpet, the second time I've done that in my life, and stood and posed awkwardly for a million photos. I've seen the pictures from both events and am really glad I got my makeup done this time around. The bolder makeup just worked better with those bright lights. I'm not professionally pretty (I'm a writer, which is, if anything, an ugly person's job) so it was fun to get my face painted and hang out with the attractive people who go to television premieres. Thanks to Cherry, I looked as good as my genes would allow. If you're looking for a professional makeup artist in New York City, I'd highly recommend Beauty by Cherry Le. She's a sweetheart, and she does excellent work.

My makeup was flawless, lasted all night and was exactly what I wanted. She even saved the day by helping me correct a slight spray tan discoloring on my chest Her attention to detail is impressive to watch, but the makeup itself was so light and wearable it almost felt like I had nothing on. Cherry herself is warm, professional and so fun to chat with ! If you ever want event makeup for any reason, I can't recommend her enough

A GEM OF A COIFFURE TUCKED ATOP FIFTH AVENUE:…read more I came across the SCK Salon during this summer. It's a little beauty gem tucked away on Fifth Avenue close to Saks. The salon interior is lovely and an experience in of itself: a pristine white loft on the fourth floor. It's well-designed, minimalist and sun kissed, making for a bright and lovely experience. The salon staff are efficient and so pleasant making the overall experience a boost to your day. I had a single process (with Tam) and cut (with Chen). Both were done professionally. Tam is such a pleasant and kind coiffure. Chen does an amazing blow dry and is a very talented hairdresser. He does good haircuts too. I cannot recommend both of them enough after the pleasant experience I had, right down to the thoughtfully prepared cappuccino and biscotti for their clients. The one thing that places this salon in my favourites list is the fact that they use Kerastase products which are really so agreeable with my hair type and have been a product that I have used since my 20's at hairdressers around the world. The Kerstase shampoos and conditioners brought back such nice and happy memories ... The prices range from USD 165-200 dollars for a single process. About USD 155- 258 dollars for a cut and USD 67-150 dollars for a blow dry. The only thing I would change or ask more of at this salon would be music, music, MUSIC! It's always great to have some tunes playing in the background as you get pretty or prettier, as the case maybe. Enjoy your time at Salon SCK. It's a dream to have your hair in their good hands.

I had an absolutely outstanding haircut experience here with Jun! She really took the time to…read morelisten to my hair concerns, understand what I was going for and work with me to make the right decision when it came to my hair. My hair has thinned out over the past year, something I'm really self-conscious about. I had a feeling that going shorter was the right move, but didn't want to go too short all at once. Jun worked with me to find the right balance between taking off dead ends and making my hair look more full and uniform without a major chop. We started out with a dry cut, then moved over to the hair washing station. Jun took the time to make sure the products she was using worked for my very fine hair, and even added some extra conditioning to help with dryness. She then meticulously went over my hair cut to ensure everything was even and that the cut was working for my goal of making my hair look full. My hair has a curl to it which she also took into account, and spent time styling it with products that didn't weigh it down. This was a 10/10 experience and cut. I would highly recommend coming here, especially if you have thin or curly hair!

I will be back and have even recommended friends. Thank you, MCat

I've been seeing Charles Wan for the past two years, and he has completely transformed my hair into…read moreexactly what I've always wanted! What sets Charles apart is how much he genuinely cares about the health of your hair. It's so hard to find a stylist who prioritizes maintaining healthy hair over trying to sell you additional services. Before finding Charles, I saw several different hairstylists throughout the city, but none of them cared about the long-term health of my hair the way he does. I've been coloring my hair for years, so I definitely don't have the healthiest hair to begin with. Charles understands my hair, knows exactly how it processes, and never rushes the coloring process. He takes his time with every step to make sure my hair stays healthy while still achieving the results I want. Over the years, he's earned my complete trust. I always value his recommendations because he truly understands my hair and always has its best interest in mind. I'm so happy I found my go-to stylist in the city. I absolutely love my hair every single time I walk out of Unfade x Muze! If you're looking for someone who is incredibly talented, patient, and genuinely invested in the health of your hair, go see Charles!!! you won't regret it!

I went in and they were able to service me very quickly. The vibe is very upscale and very nice. The staff was very kind and very helpful. Super grateful that they did a test but very sad that I was unable to do the color that I want. They did offer me to do like an ash brown, but that wasn't what I wanted unfortunately. They told me I could wait for it to grow out and then they can't fix it up and do the color that I want. I will definitely be revisiting the salon since the service is so good and they are so kind.

On the day of the wedding, She arrived promptly at 5AM, all smiles! She was such a pleasure to work with. She has a lovely attitude, and is so calm, which would be helpful for most brides. Kerry-Lou clearly has a lot of experience and she knew exactly what I wanted and delivered. My only criticism is that I found my hair style a little too stiff; I'd wanted natural, beach curls. They charge $50 for any hair consultation, which is ridiculous when you have staff that are so miserable and make for an unpleasant experience. I've never wasted $50 faster in my life than consulting with Liz. Firstly, Liz was more than rude- from the moment she greeted me actually, and it continued throughout the consultation. Not once did she smile, was welcoming or was kind in any moment of the appointment. I truly wouldn't recommend you to waste your time or money, because she just has such an attitude that I wouldn't even feel comfortable having a person like that touch my hair. 0/10 stars, would not recommend her to anyone
