This review is not of the resort itself (as we were staying at a nearby cottage) but of their on-site restaurant... The Boathouse...a neat little building overlooking Stoney Lake that serves pub style food.
We ventured in last night at around 6:45pm for dinner. The views are the best feature of this restaurant...great vistas of Stoney Lake with a cool breeze blowing onto the shore. We sat outside on the upper deck overlooking the lake.
A rather surly waiter came over and cleared the table from the previous guests. When he returned to clean the table and take a drink order, he hap-hazardly wiped table, missing huge sections and leaving crumbs and pieces of food/coleslaw from the previous guests all over the table, so much so, that we had to wipe the table down ourselves using Kleenex. He threw menus on the table, threw the cutlery on top of them, and asked what we wanted to drink. No recommendations, no engagement, nothing. When he returned with our drinks, he asked if we knew what we wanted to order and then just stood there looking at us. I heard a waitress (who was working the table next to us) engaging her customers, asking them about where they were staying, did they enjoy the view, etc. Our waiter as stone cold...there was zero attempt at conversation and we were made to feel that we were an annoyance to him.
When our food arrived, 3 ppl "liked their meal", mine was dreadful.
Person 1 - ordered fish and chips. Lake Perch lightly battered with chips. He said It was tasty and his only comment was that the aolie should have come on the side, rather than having the fish nestled on it. Never-the-less, he enjoyed his meal.
Person 2 - ordered a hamburger, described on the menu as ground angus beef. He said it was delicious, as were his fries.
Person 3 - ordered the chicken, bacon wrap, which wasn't a wrap but on a roll. She thought the menu said wrap....but said she may have misread the menu. Regardless, she said it was good.
Me - I ordered the Waffles and Chicken. The order was presented as a "sandwich".....2 pieces of square mouth - numbingly dry waffles separated by a piece of overcooked chicken. The top waffle was a little overcooked and burnt, but the bottom waffle was burnt to the point it could not be eaten. Shame on the cook who placed the burnt side down on the plate in attempts to hide the fact it was burnt....and then used it as a base to built the rest of the meal upon. Not cool. The charred (the only way to describe it) waffle could not be eaten and everyone at the table commented about how burnt and unappetizing it looked...and all were surprised at how someone could even attempt to send it out to a customer. The chicken itself was dry and was far too breaded to be enjoyed. Huge, huge disappointment. I've had this dish at several other places and this was by far the worst I've ever had.
When our waiter returned to clear our dishes, I intentionally left the uneaten waffle burnt side up on my plate so he could see it......which I may have just given to the chipmunk who visited our table...as our waiter could really care less and made no mention of it.
On our way out, we all commented on how poor the service was, and whom amongst us enjoyed their meals. I felt short-changed as mine was so dreadful.
So, in summary:
View - 5 Stars
Service - 1 Star
Food Quality - 2 stars (if I was rating it strictly by my meal, it would be 0, but others enjoyed theirs)
Value - 2 Stars
