Though our particular room was tiny, it seemed that they do a lot with the small space you get, as you get a mini fridge, a microwave, and a good selection of satellite channels. As well, it appears to be one of the lowest priced if not the lowest priced motel in Peterborough, and we were lucky that there was a room available, even though we went in the shoulder season, just after school-age students had gone back to school. It is rather minimalist in the food and drink offerings (no vending machines for food and drink), but for I and my husband, we tend to bring our own food and drink, so it was not that critical for us.

The mobile home/cabin was really nice/clean/new and equipped with absolutely everything we needed to relax and enjoy the outdoors. The pool was also a hit with the kids - they loved fishing off the docks as well. The park itself is really clean and maintained very nicely by the family who owns the park. I would definitely recommend this to any family who would like to get away to the lake this summer- its a wonderful destination that we truly enjoyed and will go to again!

But sometimes you want a more relaxed experience. Fee's Landing is that place. The cottages are definitely rustic (honestly I think using the word resort in the name is a bit of a stretch) but comfortable. The website descriptions are pretty accurate so i won't waste space on that. There 5 cottages, shared paddle boats, kayaks and canoes. There are frequently lots of families and the kids enjoy running between the beach and play ground. As I said the cottages are rustic but obvious recent improvements such as recently built fire pits for each cottage. Bring a fishing rod...honestly I have no idea what type of fish...but the kids had hours of fun every day fishing off the dock the beach area is good but other than that the lake is pretty weedya

The property is very well maintained and taken care of with no sign of disrepair or complacency, very nicely laid out as well. The cottages are appointed with everything to make your stay as comfortable as can be. Amenities such as fully appointed kitchen, indoor fireplace, bbq, comfortable beds and furniture, sat tv, and of course wifi (that worked perfect). All you need to bring is your clothes and food and you're good to go. The cabins have a nice size deck that faces the water with a fire pit just steps away. There is also a small onsite store and you can rent watercraft to get out on the lake as well. The owner seemed genuinely concerned at making our stay enjoyable yet was not intrusive in the slightest way, very considerate. I would not hesitate to recommend Fees Landing to my friends and family without a fear of disappointing anyone and will go back in the near future.

It's in a great location near Buckhorn on Sandy Lake. Right now with COVID on it is really a fantastic place to go since you can hang out and look after yourself in your suite. The rooms all have kitchenettes (more like kitchens really, since they have full stove, fridge, microwave, pots/pans, dishes, cutlery, BBQ etc for each unit. They even include a pie in the freezer and coffee, tea, filters, milk etc. Very well outfitted. The bedrooms are well appointed and all units have A/C or a fireplace for the winter. Also, if you don't want to be totally disconnected, there is a big TV in each unit with Shaw Cable with Crave TV... plus a DVD player (and a library of over 200 DVDs to chose from). Lots more to do as well --- the lake with swimming, kayaking and paddle boats. Trails to hike on, or board games to play, or books to read. Such a relaxing place --- we booked the Woodhaven suite, which is perfect for 2... and we had a nice little fenced in backyard with chairs (we took our morning coffee out there and enjoyed the lake view)... and a bbq grill. (note - some suites have multiple beds/bedrooms and are suitable for families). Of note -- this is not a party place folks. People come up here for the nature and relaxation. Most folks are lights out by like 11 pm. There is a fire pit to enjoy in the evenings with a glass of wine. But most people are here for the outdoor activities and R&R. There is also a hot tub and a small pool. Nearby: - Buckhorn is about 15 minutes away and has a grocery store, LCBO, country store and some other shops. - Bobcaygeon is little further away and worth the trip to the Kawartha Dairy (their ice cream is soooo good). So number one thing, our accommodation must be dog friendly. I love cottages, but I begrudge the serious planning needed to go, especially for a short stay. I wanted something in between a cottage and a hotel, so I decided to try a lodge. I chose Woodhaven based on locations as I know the Kawarthas are beautiful but mostly based on their promise of a very dog friendly environment. Well they delivered! The location is pretty tucked away and has a beautiful view of the lake. Out the window you can sit and watch bluejays, chickadees, and red and black squirrels stop in for some feed. The woods surrounding the lodge are gorgeous. I am a winter fan, so I loved the snow covered evergreens and birches. My dog absolutely loved his runs. There are seven suites in the lodge. I selected the most modest one as I wanted the private hot tub. I was offered an upgrade to a larger suite with a much better view, but I stuck to my initial decision though in retrospect perhaps I should have taken the view over the tub. The decor in my suite was not quite my taste, but it was true to the dog theme of the place and it was clean and comfortable. I spent a fair bit of time with a glass of red reading in the library where if you're a book nerd like me, there is tons to borrow and read! I also enjoyed sitting in the dinning room. The common table itself is really gorgeous as is the view. The stand out for me was having some of my meals prepared for me. Breakfast is included every morning and so were my dinners on two out of three of the nights. Yah! Michael is an excellent cook and I appreciated his gourmet takes on down home cooking. The strata he made one breakfast was divine and will live on in my memory as will his candied squash. Normally I am not a fan of sharing meals with strangers at communal tables mostly because I am dreadful at small talk, but here I felt comfortable. I think this was amplified because my dog was welcome to accompany me to meals. That little detail made all the difference to me.

Once there are two towels, two hand towels and two face washers stacked on the one rail, everything has to be moved for use. There are no shelves or rails or hooks anywhere else in the room so when you shower you leave your clothes on the toilet lid. If you want to hang the hand towels somewhere after use, the bath towels are in the way. Considering the size of the bathroom which is adequate, another rail or hook on the door would have made the whole experience perfect. There is a no smoking sign on the door, however smoking is allowed on the balcony, evidenced by a dirty ash tray on the table in the centre. Love the quirky ceiling fan on the balcony.

I didn't know what to expect, so I did a bit more research and found out that they offer 5, 7, or 9 course blind tasting menus, as well as a la carte meals. Without hesitation, we went for the 9 course blind tasting with a shared wine pairing! Please remember to book your table in advance! The restaurant is located in a separate cottage house on the property, with a beautiful, serene view by the waters. The service was exceptional. The food from 'forest/farm-to-table' were unbelievable. The mini duck egg omelette, the smoked trout, and the brownie x ice cream dessert with the lavender were my favourite amongst the delicious dishes on the blind tasting menu. You can literally taste the freshness in every bite! In April 2017 last year, Viamede Resort also went tip-free. They believe in paying their staff fair wages from the start, and don't believe they should burden guests with extra fees. The price you see is the price you pay :) I really wish I could keep The Inn at Mount Julian a secret, but I really want to share with the world about this outstanding culinary experience! From the day before when we drove over to check out the resort and the dining options right up to when we walked out the staff were all very fresh faced and friendly and took their jobs seriously. You could tell the wanted to help and weren't just putting in time. The Inn itself is a beautifully restored on building. Nice wide planked floors and subtle, contemporary decor. The menu is not large ( a good thing ! ) but considering the small size of the place there is more than enough choices. The chef is trying to integrate local items into the menu ( spruce tips! ) with some success. Overall our meal, wine, service, and prices were all excellent. This place would definitely appeal to someone who wants a nice evening out after several days of cottaging it. Although it is fairly sophisticated for cottage country it still has a nice casual vibe so you can show up fairly casual without feeling out of place. Give it a go !
