We got the steak tartare, mafaldine pasta with bone marrow ragu, and the squash agnolotti. They were all heavy dishes and had a lot of flavor fatigue. The steak tartare came with crostini's that were slightly over-buttered, the squash agnolotti was tasty and had a nice texture with the crispy pancetta. The mafaldine was probably my favorite dish. Came here for a birthday dinner and was pleasantly surprised! The food was great - delicious and hearty flavours - and the ambiance was quite nice. Only downside is that the restaurant does seem to stick to their 2h time limit, which isn't surprising given the smaller space. We started off with some drinks - I got the spicy ginger margarita, which had a nice kick and honestly almost tasted like a wellness shot. Health! Then, we moved on to some sharing apps. We got the Burrata and Foccacia - the cheese was sooo good and creamy, and the strawberries and pistachios were a nice touch. We also shared the Panzanella, a light fresh bite of tomato salad and crunchy crostini. This was an interesting mix of different flavours and textures, and something I enjoyed. I had a friend who arrived late, who got the steak tartare - the accompanying mustard had a mighty kick! Otherwise, it had a great flavour profile that I quite enjoyed. We then shared some mains - among the 5 of us, we got a special pasta (which squid ink) and a mortadella pizza. I much preferred the mortadella - the dough was so light and airy, and the pistachio sauce was very unique. Finally, we ended off the meal with the indulgent tiramisu pancakes. To be honest, this wasn't my favourite dessert... the pancakes were like any other, but the only "tiramisu" part was the mousse / syrup (espresso and mascarpone). Overall, a solid meal. This west end, cosy Italian spot was on our radar for some time but as east-enders, distance kept us from making the trek, not to mention that it takes a couple of weeks to get a booking. We finally made it and it was worth the wait! You're struck by the intimate ambiance. It is a small place with a hella-cute bar and the kind of dining room you could dwell in for hours on a snowy winter night. The service was attentive and warm and not at all intrusive. We started with the charred cabbage and the king oyster mushroom crostini. Both were smash hits. The mushrooms were bathed in a miso butter. The cabbage was accompanied by a silky stracciatella cheese with a hit of tang thanks to a chili jam. Based on other reviews, the steak tar tar seems to be a fashionable choice for starters but we were very happy with our selections. For our mains, my wife had the Black cod - beautifully done, tender and moist with a tasty potato crema. I ordered the picanha steak which was beautiful to look at and very tasty but was a bit too hard to cut and chew due to the sinewy nature of that particular cut of beef. The accompanying fried eggplant was delectable...it could have been a main by itself and worked beautifully with the beef reduction. For dessert, we went off-broadway again, eschewing the wildly popular tiramisu pancakes, instead opting for the apple torta. It melted in your mouth with a subtle flavour that was not overly sweet. To begin, we ordered a drink each, me - a glass of Red, and him - a classic Negroni. For food we ordered: Cucumber and Melon salad (4/5) For most of it, I loved the textures and freshness this presented, almost a prefect appetizer and palette cleanser to the mains. The -1 is because the dressing was a tad too sweet, almost giving it a dessert-y feel. If they up a notch on the citrus and down a notch on the sweetness, we would have had the perfect encounter. Cacio e Pepe with N'duja (5/5) This was perfection. It is what you would expect it to be and more. Well seasoned, perfectly al dente, and flavorful. Definitely a repeatable order! Chittara Alla Diavola (5/5) This was elegant and minimal, yet complex and deep in flavor. A perfect combination with the Cacio e Pepe, as the brightness of this pasta dish leveled the richness of the other. After smashing hits, we were full yet had to end with the whole trifecta - apps, mains and dessert. Peach Panna Cotta (5/5) We went off the beaten path, and instead of the infamous Tiramisu Pancakes, opted for a refreshing Ontario Peach Panna Cotta. My partner and I were extremely excited to try this new place. Unfortunately, they were done with their pizza for the season, so we did not have many options to choose from for our main course. They only had two options for Secondi, which we weren't really into, so we ended up ordering three pasta dishes to share. We ordered beef tartare and focaccia. The beef tartare was amazing. I loved how crispy the toast was, and the tartare was perfectly seasoned with great texture. When you took a bite of it with the toast, it was fantastic. The focaccia had a great chewy texture as well; the only downside was that I wished it had been served warm, along with some kind of butter or olive oil. The pastas were great too, but I don't think each dish was worth $30. The lasagna was in a unique shape--it was swirled instead of stacked like traditional pasta. I'm not sure if I loved this or not, but overall the food was good. There were three staff members on the floor while we were there, taking turns at the bar. I understand it was busy, but things felt very hectic and packed. Our male server was amazing; he checked in with us constantly. The female server, who seemed very busy, was a bit all over the place. She dropped an entire wine bottle that she was supposed to serve to another table, drawing everyone's attention. She said the bottle didn't break and served it to the table anyway, which I found questionable. If I had ordered that bottle, I would have appreciated a new one. When she brought our food, she simply placed the pasta on the side and walked away. I thought she could have at least helped us put it in front of us and explained what each dish was, instead of just leaving it on the side. I had dinner on the patio which had a lovely ambiance. The staff was kind and helpful. I ordered the malfadine, cacio e pepe, seabass crudo, and aglio pizza. The pasta was just okay. The cacio e pepe was REALLY undercooked. When I bit in, it was super hard still. I loved the seabass crudo; the tamarind added an interesting touch and the combination of ingredients was unlike any that I have tried before. If I could give half stars this would be a solid 3.5. Came with friends for a birthday dinner. Service was great from the start, this was a 5/5 for us. Restaurant is also charming and loved the decor. Food wise, we ordered quite a few dishes to really try all the restaurant offered. For appetizers we had steak tartare and burrata which were both delicious. However for burrata we had to order focaccia on the side. It would have been nice to throw in some crostini with the dish. We also tried the mushroom pizza as an app and this was delicious. Probably the best mushroom pizza Ive had. For the mains we tried the bone marrow and cacio e pepe. It's a restaurant with coffee shop within.. the coffee shop is open (patio) from 9am but then you won't be able to sit on their covered patio/inside until 11am. Nevertheless - this spot has many options of baked goods to choose from. So are the options of a coffee based drinks! The coffee is as good as any other local specialty coffee shop and so the baked good (tried almond croissant and carrot cake) Both were delicious. First time at Viaggio. Came to try the snow crab tagliatelle. I ordered the tagliatelle per planned and my bf ordered the pork and beef ravioli (?) dish. We also got the focaccia for the table. I really liked his ravioli but there were literally like 7 of them on the dish so we were happy that we had the bread. My snow crab tagliatelle was good but slightly too lemony on the sauce. The crab part was delicious and I liked the mushrooms in it too, but I definitely could have gone less lemony. It was also not particularly nicely presented- which for $38, you would imagine they'd take that into consideration. We got: 1) The steak tartare as our appetizer - paired very nicely with the toasted sourdough 2) 10oz dry aged ribeye - topped with a bunch of crispy veggies and a very yummy caramel used onion aioli. It was made perfectly medium rare! 3) Bone marrow pasta - the star of the show! This dish was so flavourful 4) Tiramisu pancakes for dessert - buttermilk pancakes topped with espresso syrup and tiramisu mousse. I'm glad we finally made it out to Viaggio! The restaurant itself is cozy, rustic and quaint. Loved the service and staff were very helpful. I had the octopus tagliatelle and it was really delicious, a tiny bit salty at first but the flavour is blended well and the octopus was cooked perfectly. I had to try their Tiramisu pancake for dessert and I'm glad I did! They were like soufflé pancakes with a very generous pile of marscapone mousse on top, indulgent, sweet and delicious! Went with a party of 4. Ordered the focaccia, brioche, shishito peppers and cauliflower as starters. We dipped the focaccia in the cauliflower dish and it was a perfect match. I was expecting olive oil to be served with the focaccia and it was surprising that they missed this. The cauliflower dish was outstanding as the sauce was hearty. Brioche was good but not perfect, I'd skip it next time and double down on the focaccia. Peppers were crunchy and refreshing. For mains we got the spaghetti, mafaldine and rabbit saltimbocca. Spaghetti was al dente and I loved the taste, mafaldine was good too, not as good as the spaghetti. Rabbit was juicy and I enjoyed the pea puree. Service was polite even though sometimes it felt rushed. For example, they took our cauliflower plate before we had a chance to mop up the last remnants of the gravy. This spot is amazing for the cauliflower, spaghetti and the Nero D'avola wine. I will visit again. read more

This cozy restaurant is worth a visit if you want some delicious food with great ambience. The restaurant is quite small in a way so it can accommodate groups but there is limited space. There is lots of conversation so it's really better to be close together because the place gets loud. It's great spot for friends to eat and mingle. Lighting is good for nice photos haha but nothing really instagrammable if that's your thing. Ok onto the food.. the menu is somewhat simple, 3-5 items in each category so it's not huge which makes it easier to make decisions. Everything we ordered was good so really just take your pick. If I can say though the standout is the duck breast which was flavourful and I loved the crisp skin and the jus and the barley! So tasty! The macadamia nur rum cake is also like 5/5. I would drive across town to get take out so I can eat it. THAT GOOD. Other notable items were the beef tartar and the cucumber salad both delicious and the few pastas we had were very tasty. Excellent, albeit rather pricey. A great choice for a special occasion. My partner heard about this restaurant on another review site and decided to surprise me with a reservation. We ended up trying some of the most recommended menu items: - Deviled carbonara eggs: expensive but quite good. - Truffled frico: must try. - Snow crab tagliatelle: everything you hoped and dreamed of in a buttery seafood pasta. - Cotecchino tortelloni: very unique and highly recommended. - Tiramisu pancakes: overrated! Disappointing even if they hadn't been burnt on the bottom. - Chocolate hazelnut budino: meh, pass. Should have tried the paw paw donuts. This place is absolutely darling. It's not very big, though I have yet to see their patio (this is a late post, I went around spring). There is so much natural light flowing into the space, and there is just this calmness to the atmosphere. Mind you, we made a reservation, and were just one of two tables on an early Saturday night. Our waiter was great with his recommendations, and was very attentive. The pastas were delicious, though I liked the red-sauced paccheri more. Viaggio has a warm and welcoming ambience, with an acceptable amount of west-end Toronto pretentiousness. Came here with my partner and another couple on Feb 3 after reading some good reviews. Good Italian restaurants are hard to find in the city. Balancing quality ingredients and maintaining simplicity is never easy. Viaggio missed the mark on the latter. We started with focaccia and olives which were excellent. Bread was piping hot and fresh and the olives were firm and flavourful. We all shared the burrata and figs, fennel and orange salad and tartare. Quality of Buratta was great but overpowered by the mound of crushed candied pecans that were heaped on top. Figs were excellent and accompanied the cheese nicely; if only they let the cheese shine. The fennel and orange salad was awful - over salted with only 3-4 pieces of orange which would have cut the saltiness. The tartare was the standout. High quality beef, perfectly seasoned and the bread was great. I ordered the casoncelli and my partner, the signature mafaldine and paired it with a nebiolo. The casoncelli was excellent, the filling in the pasta was delicious, the mushrooms, perfectly cooked and the jus was delectable. The nebiolo paired incredibly well. My partner's mafaldine did match up. The charred rapini gave the entire dish a strong burnt flavour that made it inedible, even after we brought it home. I didn't want to create a scene so I decided not to mention it to the staff. After calling them with the feedback, they responded to me on OpenTable, saying that they were "sorry I felt that way." I wonder if they would have said that if I spoke up during the meal. I would have expected at least drink or app on the house for a future visit but that would be expecting too much. Even a phone call would have been nice. I have eaten enough pasta to know when something is off or burnt. What do customers know, anyway? We finished with the tiramisu pancakes - a Canadian rendition on an Italian classic. It wasn't bad, just a bit contrived. Pancakes were well cooked and mousse was delicious. The espresso syrup was on the thick side and gave it an artificial flavour. Overall, Viaggio is a mixed bag. Misses, hits and pretentious response from the restaurant make it 2/5 for me. read more

My small Casoncelli pasta dumplings, for instance, numbered only in the high single digits. I wish i counted, but there may have been 9 of them. I drove by this place last week and the patio looked cute so I decided to give it a try tonight. To start I ordered the cucumber salad and the steak tartare. Both were excellent. The portion of the salad was a great size. I loved all the flavours and textures. The menu said the salad had cannellini beans and poblano peppers . I didn't see it or taste it so not sure if that was actually in the salad. For mains I got the bone marrow pasta with charred rapini and the tortellini. The tortellini was mind blowing. I will def come back for that dish. It was so light . The tortellini literally exploded in your mouth with the most delicious ricotta . The butter sauce was honestly divine. It complimented the hint of sweetness in the ricotta. Moving on to the bone marrow pasta . Terrible . I hate to say this but it was so unbelievably disappointed. First off rapini is bitter then you charr it and it is over barring . It taste like my pasta was made in a camp fire . The sauce was also so thick , almost like a tomato paste consistency it need more pasta water to thin it out. It didn't coat the pasta nicely. I would never order that again . Welcome to the neighborhood Viaggio! Having opened only 2 months ago, I'm glad I was recommended to come check this Italian spot out. Really nice decor, friendly staff, and great food. How can you go wrong with that. I will say that the restaurant itself is a little darker, perfect for romantic setting. I've walked by the restaurant more times than I can remember since living only a few minutes away. We came by for my dad and sister's birthday dinner and overall everyone enjoyed their meals. There was 6 of us in our party so that gave me the opportunity to taste a little bit of everything. We ordered a few apps to share and mains, and by the end of our meal, we were all stuffed and had left overs to take home as well. For apps we started with the formaggi, truffle frico, and the venison carpaccio. If you're a fan of stronger cheeses, the formaggi is definitely for you. The sausage and meats were a hit at the table and went pretty quickly. Truffle frico was really good as well! Topped off with some shaved black truffle, this potato pancake dish is a must try. The carpaccio was the best app of the bunch that we ordered. A definite must get when you're there. The mains were just as good! Group consensus was that the bone marrow ragu was the favourite followed by the snow crab, and pork shoulder. Lamb saddle was really well done and very filling. We also got to try a little bit of each dish on dessert menu. The pancake tiramisu was a recommended dish by the staff and 100% this was the best suggestion. The pancake is so fluffy and the tiramisu was just the right balance between sweet and savoury. 2 giant fluffy pancakes alone were a meal in itself. Definitely must try. It was our first time at Viaggio at the recommendation of our son and his wife. We came for our anniversary and we couldn't be happier. Roxy took care of us the whole time and she was so helpful and prompt, even starting us off with a surprise prosecco toast. All the suggestions she made were excellent so we just put our trust in her hands. Highlights were the panzella salad and the octopus pasta. We came here for the prix fixe menu during the Giro D'Italia food event that is hosted every year in April. Viaggio was representing the region of Lazio and we really enjoyed the tasting menu they put forward. It's easy to miss Viaggio because it just looks like a corner lot house from the outside. First things first, you can bring your own wine for a small corkage fee of $30. It's a great deal and I need to start asking restaurants if they have corkage fees. We brought along a nice chianti to enjoy for the evening. The atmosphere is a little darker than what I like but the vibe is super cool and chill with the inside keeping very rustic looking from the former Brazilian steakhouse tenants. The dishes that stood out to me from the prix fixe menu the evening were: 1. the rigatoni all'amatrician which is a really deep red tomato sauce that was so flavourful. The pasta that was holding the sauce was cooked to the perfect el dente. I seriously never said wow to a piece of cooked pasta before but it happened. 2. the roasted lamb ribs were gamey and tender and the garlic anchovy sugo added more oomph to the dish. I'm normally not a dessert person and the zeppole with the cherry & cream filling was a really nice end to the meal. It tasted every bit an elevated Italian Mac and cheese. The amount of black pepper was a bit too overpowering imo. A bee went in my orange juice. Notified the waitress. She comes with a spoon and scoops it out and says " there!" and walks away!!! Really?!?? I told her if she can replace it and she says " What do you expect? You're outside, so it can happen again" I was shocked at her response and made me think how dirty this place must be! I told her I'd appreciate it if she can replace it and she says " I'm still going to charge you" I said, "I don't care if you charge me, just replace it!!!" I'll start with the good: The look is fantastic. A small unassuming storefront with great murals next to a little Parkette in a fantastic Neighbourhood. The front area is warm and welcoming complete with a bar and then you enter a small dining area with about 30-40 spots in total. It has everything one would desire in a great family and date spot. The food is very good. Light Italian fare. Not cheap but not insanely expensive and they do not disappoint with their specials. If my review of the place was food and look alone, ... Reality: However, from a practical standard this space needs a full overhaul. The stairs to the restaurant are very very wide with no railing (OBC Code issue perhaps?!) and all wood making them very slippery. When you sit you quickly realize that you are immersed in everyone's conversations around you. There is almost no noise mitigation system in place. It's really bad. And as a side note, I'm not a picky sound person but this was just unbelievable. I felt like I was at McDonald's at 2am with the sound levels. If they are doing this to seek a high turnover then they have achieved. But i really recommend adding some padding on the ceiling to capture the high pitches around the guests so that those families and couples will enjoy night and come back. It's unfortunate that the lack of being able to communicate with those who are sharing the lovely food and drink can completely ruin an evening. read more

Loved my visit to Viaggio this week. Their patio is currently open (indoor dining is closed), due to COVID-19 measures. The patio space is lovely, with big trees overtop providing lots of shade. We ordered their version of the Spritz, and the Syrah, which was well paired with the food we ordered: Cucumber Salad Caponata with pizza crust Corn and mushroom risotto Spaghetti alla nerano All excellent. Our favourites were the appetizers, they were inventive and delicious. We recommend adding the pizza crust with the caponata for dipping. The service was attentive and welcoming, timing of the food was great, and their efforts to social distance their diners was appreciated and made eating here worry-free. We can't recommend this place more. Very much looking forward to returning. read more

Delicious food especially the tiramisu pancakes! Not too busy and great atmosphere. Will definitely be back.
