Overall my experience was ok since I usually don't ride via except for special events or park and ride. We took the 24 from Ellis Alley around 3pm on Saturday 2/28/2026. I was told that location park and ride was free but discovered it had a pay system in place. I called via and they said you needed to get a transfer from the driver to place on our car windshield. Not a great plan since I would need to get the transfer ticket, place it on my car and now have to wait for the next bus. That system isn't efficient at all. We paid for parking and went on the rodeo. The drivers were the real standout this night. Both the bus to and then the last bus from Frost Bank Center had stand out drivers. Super courteous. Answered all my questions and even reminded me where to jump off. The common thread of both drivers was their genuine kindness towards all passengers. Attentive to their needs and always a thank you for riding via of have a nice day to those exiting the bus. The drivers earned thus 5 star review. read more

I asked the attendant at the Medical center transit park and ride location. If there was anyway he could be raise the temperature in the waiting area because it felt like the same temperature that was outside. He explained that he had not control over it. Then I saw a maintenance man from Via and explained the same thing and he said he had no control over it. Apparently there is no one that knows how a heater unit works or what a thermostat looks like. Wherever it is? Teach or educate your attendants how to use them or where they are located. The bus was clean and cool, but I only had to go 6 miles and it almost took 3 hours because of the stops and the delays. The ride was pretty rough also. If San Antonio was not so hot and dangerous, I would have walked to Gunn Honda. Good to use in an emergency, but give yourself an extra hour before your needed arrival time. read more

We're visiting and took the 24 from KOA to the Alamo. Going in the driver offered to stop at the closer stop to the Alamo. He was helpful though drive too fast so it was a choppy ride. Coming back the driver like us wore a mask and offered to stop at the KOA. She drove slower and cautiously. Considering we paid 1.30 each one was so the total was 5.20 you're getting a bargain folks. The text for times was off about 5-8 minutes; pretty good considering they never know how long people will take to board, pay and get behind the yellow line. read more

I work till 2 AM. I waited at work till after 3 AM to walk 25 minutes to the nearest VIA hub. Did not arrive till 3:47 AM. The security kicked me off the property for a lousy 13 minutes. The week before I had showed up an hour earlier. San Antonio transit police showed and had no problem considering my situation. VIA, you have security there what is the problem with someone sitting peacefully to wait for the buses to start again. P.S. Your guard was so lazy he would even get out his car. And so in the South part of town a lot of the Hispanic neighborhoods don't even get that many lines, connections are not nearly extensive enough considering the amount of ground they have to cover cuz it's a really huge sprawling City. Meanwhile in the north side of town nobody uses buses (comparatively speaking) cuz that's where all the rich people live, and often they would rather shoot themselves than ride on the bus apparently (and sometimes even do), and that's the area that has all the best extensive bus routes and connections, so figure that out for yourself. Having said that they're pretty clean and they all look brand new so that's a big plus and so is this the flag of Switzerland. read more

I was on the bus #703 going to the Medical Center Park n Ride via route 503. I got on at Floyd Curl Dr, down the road from Huebner Rd. At approx 3pm. The bus driver had an pissed off look on her face and was eyeballing me up and down, like she wanted to start a fight. I showed her my bus pass, and she said nothing. I replied in kind by saying, "you're welcome. I know someone eyeballing me when I see it." Got off at medical center transit center, transferring over to bus 516 via route 95. The lady walks past and start making faces at me and started making comments about MY MOTHER!! I FUCKING LOST IT!! I started screaming at her, telling to come say that my face. Another gentleman who rode the same bus told me he had a similar experience with her. The driver of bus #516, route 95 advised to call via customer care. I will share this at every possible website and social media account possible. She is really goddamn lucky. If I were less of a man, I would've hit her. San Antonio we have one heck of a transit system. The buses are clean and one time, you could set your click by them. The drivers are knowledgeable and more than willing to help you navigate to the next bus. Absolutely cannot beat the price. So many routes make getting around a breeze. Great for locals to get around as well as for tourists to see the city with out the cost if cabs or rental cars or getting lost. Viva Via! read more

Missed a stop, had to cycle around, got told I had to catch another bus. Doesn't seem like a policy that would actually help with homeless people riding the bus to get out of the heat (though even if it did, thats a pretty inhumane justification for such a policy.) Ended up just having to take a different bus running the same route a little later. The kiosk that got me hooked up with my bus pass was very friendly and polite, though, so points for that. read more

Ok, there are some very friendly an awesome drivers for VIA, and yes this bus system could be way better, this is just about a 24hour City, they need longer bus running hours, and in this economy with the massive inflation, most people are looking for alternatives to driving, not just that, whom ever grided this city for public transportation seemed to leave out important connection grids, the timing is off for most of the connections, and VIA has a small amount of drivers who seem indifferent or just plain hostile to customers. These issues need to be addressed. read more

A little irritating when the Via bus blocks the road so they can "take a break", especially when it is a three lane road (one each direction and a turn lane). This has become a regular happenstance on Nacogdoches at HEB. Getting tired of them sitting and having a conversation when someone on their bus, while traffic is stacked up behind them. Yeah you might have to wait for the bus, or you might be late and chasing it, but either way I would rather pay$1.20 to hop on and get where I want. If you are a tourist red and blue lines are an easy way to get from downtown hotels to other areas in downtown are, for example El Mercado. read more

Via- link Offered me a ride with a bike rack told me they had one on the way called back when they where late by 15 minutes asked a 2nd time do they have a bike rack on the way they assured me they did. Many busses just don't show up. Sometimes they don't have masks for customers and won't let them on. Temporary bus stops don't have a way of knowing what time the bus comes either with texting or Google maps. Makes me late a lot. Bus drivers are often rude. read more

I took the SA. 97 via bus on 10/03/19, around 9:30pm from University Park & Ride I was the only one in the bus at the time, the bus bus driver was extremely unprofessional, he asked a lot of inappropriate personal questions, and kept trying to ask me out multiple times even tho I kept saying no. He made an unnecessary stop for about a minute somewhere in Castle Hills claiming that the bus was "broken", at this point I was scared so started to ignore him, then he proceeded the route. He did not stop verbally bothering me till another passenger got on the bus. Now I can't even trust bus drivers, the lack of professionalism made me feel extremely uncomfortable, I highly recommend to carry pepper spray. I did made a phone complaint but doubt they will do anything, best of luck. read more

Worst experience I have ever had with public transportation. We attempted to ride the bus the night before. According to the schedule it should have arrived at 6:38pm but didn't show up. After 20 minutes, we couldn't wait any longer and found other transportation. Then tonight the bus schedule said they were supposed to arrive at our stop at 5:16pm. However the bus didn't show until 5:44pm. Then after waiting more than 45 minutes, we were not allowed to ride because we didn't have masks. The bus drives behind a plexiglass wall told us she has given out all she had so we couldn't ride. Again they made us late for our plans and we had to find other means of transportation. When I emailed the company all they did was reply with basically saying yup that happened. They had no excuse or resolution to the terrible service they are providing. read more

Hello! My name is Lacey, I am 22 years old. I live here in San Antonio, I don't normally ride the bus, I used to have a really nice car I got into a critical accident and my car was totaled. The bus normally runs out by where I live, but because of "COVID" they have put the stops by my house to a stop. I would think that because of covid we would need transportation more so now than anytime! I have to ride my bike 6 miles everyday to the closest bus stop to get to work, I have to leave an hour early just to get to work! Then I have to make sure I have a nother hour for just the bus ride! Since I have been riding the bus I have almost been hit by distracted drivers at least twice a week! Since I have started riding the bus (the 6 miles in this rainy weather) I HAVE GOTTEN A COLD, I HAVE BEEN SENT HOME, I HAVE ALMOST BEEN KICKED OUT OF MY LIVING AREA! Because I ride 6 miles rain or shine! To get to work, to pay my bills, just to be sent home! Since I have been riding the bus I have contacted via! Email, by phone! And my voice had yet to be heard! Before when I still had my car I have seen six people walking along the highway towards "the closest bus stop" and I would pick them up, because I felt their pain (two of the being in a wheel chair!) but now TODAY, I can say I really know what it's like to ride 6 miles everyday there and six miles back to "the closest bus stop" all i am requesting is to open all the stops again! I love that I can get downtown (or to The Rim for drinks and a movie that matter!) for just over a buck and ride without a thought, reading a magazine or listening to a podcast. I can get home just as easy and get dropped off right in front of my neighborhood, to walk back to my front door feeling smug that I used public transportation, lowered my carbon footprint and also was able to indulge just a bit more in HH than I would have had I been driving. I have to admit that the route I take is pretty nice and the buses are decent as well. Once, a minor breakdown of the bus required us to get out at a different stop just outside of downtown and wait for another route to pick us up. That bus and crowd? Not so nice. Hopefully we can all look forward to additional routes, more 'express' busses and extended hours. You see, I would not be able to take the bus home after a show at the Majestic as my last route leaves at 9:47. Could be 9:46, don't remember for sure. Be on time at your stop lest you miss the bus! Love the Via! I was in San Antonio all last week for a conference, and I wanted to get some sightseeing done. I was going to shell out major bucks for either a rental car or a taxi, but got the idea to take public transportation from the San Antonio Airport website. It probably saved me a couple hundred bucks! Airport to downtown: $1.10 versus $30 Downtown to McNay: $1.10 versus $20 The list goes on. I saved like 90%! Super impressed with where the Via goes, which is almost everywhere. I like how most of the routes I took ran all 7 days of the week (which may not be true of all the routes). A little downside was that most of them only run twice an hour and there is really no overnight service. I get that though because the transit system really does cover a vast area. Use Google Transit to plot out your course instead of the website itself, and then followup with the Via website for times of the bus. I found the website unwieldy and not very user-friendly if you use the gimmicks found on the front page. Use instead the left column where it has a link to bus schedules. It links to a whole page of bus schedules in pdf. Most buses run about 3-5 minutes later than what the schedules say, but some of the buses were running on time. Personnel is super nice and friendly. They answer all your questions, and people do ask a lot of questions. There ARE some characters on the bus, but they don't bother you if you don't bother them. I was a little hesitant to use the bus because I'm more used to a train system which runs a little faster, but with Via, I saw a lot more of the city and saved money doing so! read more

For a bumpy ride and a good laugh, take one of the downtown streetcars. A reckless driver coupled with the slippery wooden bench seats will have you sliding around in no time. Refusing to hold on to a stationary object is just asking to slam into the floor. So, while you're hanging onto that pole, use that time wisely and perfect your stripper moves. read more

I rode the VIA while on vacation in San Antonio last week, and loved it! Yup, hang on to the poles because those wooden benches on the trolleys are like the highly waxed dance floors of yesteryear. All funnies aside, my favorite seat on the bus is the yellow one dedicated to Rosa Parks. Yup!!! Right up there at the front of the bus. I darn near cried Texas-sized tears. Like any good tourist, I took a picture of this respectful and unexpected tribute to a rockin' lady. The $4 day pass is great deal. I bought mine at the downtown tourist bureau, across from the Alamo. The pass is valid for both trolleys and buses, and you can get to a lot of attractions and just cool places by public transit. But - you must pay fifteen cents for a transfer - so buy a day pass! The drivers were good-natured and helpful, and some of them were darn good-looking! VIA is a fast, fun and affordable way to get around San Antonio! read more

I've got to say I was pretty excited when they started using electronic fare cards. Sounds so easy. You insert the card the first time and then it's good for 31 days from that first insertion. You swipe thereafter. But the system isn't working that good. It takes several swipes before it's read. You have to listen to 'card not valid' for virtually every person getting. Most annoying. I kind of long for the old silent monthly pass. read more

Had a ride from my home to BAMC on 18 Sep 19 and the trip pickup was 0837hrs. The driver's name is Joy and from the moment she stepped off the van to when she dropped me off, I've never had a more courteous, friendly VIA driver in the four years I have utilized the VIA shuttle service. I've been on better public transportation, but it's the best (and only) public transit in San Antonio. It's frustrating when you need to get from one side of town to another, and you look it up on the bus schedule, and it's going to take 6 hours round trip for transit, with 4 transfers. I wish San Antonio would approve a Light Rail like they have in Austin or Dallas or Houston. We tried to vote for a streetcar, and that got shot down too. Some of the buses can be really nice. If you're lucky enough to score a ride on the green buses, they have heat/ac, wifi, and run on propane! Awesome! They have a lost & found department, which I've found out firsthand really does return stuff to travelers. The bus drivers run the gamut from people who hate you, hate the bus, hate the road, and hate everything, to those bus drivers who greet you with a big "Howdy!" when you board! They let you ride with a bike, which you can put on the front of all regular buses, but they only allow 2 bikes on the front at a time. However, I've managed to talk the drivers into letting me bring the bike on board when this happens. read more

Have been using VIA Trans for about a year now. They send out a Shuttle for me yesterday and this has been the worst ride yet. I have had others no so pleasant but this one was so bad I felt it needed to be reviewed. The driver arrived way past the allowed 20 minutes for being considered late. There were two others already in the van so I say in the front seat. The entire time he shouted at his GPS system and complained about how pathetic VIA was for not providing better GPS systems considering how much they profit from our city and the public. Not only did he manage to get lost but pass our locations for all 3 of us. Then he decided to go into telling us his life story and how his wife to worked for VIA and she was the one who helped him get hired. They need to take the stops off of bandera rd or move them to a side street. Buses cause a huge amount of congestion at mainland and hubner. Also they need to start training the drivers that they are not driving small vehicles and to not ride the rear end of other cars on the road. read more

I ride the via transit regularly for work. I was on the bus and left my wallet so I called customer service multiple times because my keys were attached to my wallet and I could not into my house. They hung up on me mutiple times and I was told that me getting into my house was not an emergency and it was my fault so they really don't care by multiple employees. Also I had to wait 3 hours until the bus came back around because they had the ability to call the bus driver but me getting into my house was not and emergency basically I could sleep outside all not and they could care less. Been a customer for years all ready, the least they could have done was contacted the bus driver for me knowing I couldn't get into my house. I would give the 0 star if I could. But hopefully everybody got a warm sleep because I know I won't. read more
