Please be aware this place preys on your desperation with the final objective of ripping you off. Yes, I am definitely mad an angry for how we an our pet were treated at this place, and now, after a week of the incident, calmed and with my dog fully recovered, I wanted to share our experience and provide evidence supporting my claims. Of course, before writing this review, I made a formal complaint through DBPR who is supposed to investigate and provide licenses for these establishments. Hope they look into this. Anyway, we came to this establishment (VEG ER for Pets) to bring our dog that just had a small leg injury. Without even checking the pet, the dog was needled for IV and was applied different pain medicines without any consultation. Several procedures took place thereafter including X rays and so (again, without consultation). At this stage, no veterinary had yet even look at the dog's leg. A veterinary came to us after a while with a long list of procedures the dog was being subjected to, and that we had to approve and pay in advance in order to continue. Different doctors and nurses at the establishment explained to us many absurd things that could be happening to our dog from a massive internal bleeding, to spinal cord fracture just to name a few. They have not even examined the leg yet, and actually never did. Since we were reluctant to sign the approval for the procedures they wanted to carry out, they left us alone clearly knowing that we were nervous and worried about all the unfounded diagnosis they have shared with us (clearly meant to generate fear). We decided to take our dog and leave, not before after they made us pay them $600 without any clarity under what basis were they charging this. I can certainly probe that all the procedures this establishment wanted to carry out were unnecessary and were meant just to increase the bill. That same night we left VEG ER for Pets with our pet and went to another veterinary where our dog was cured and treated completely differently for the same injury. The list of procedures at this establishment is completely different. The doctor quickly cleaned and look at the wound upon arrival, no IV was necessary though they did administer some medicine and did a X Ray to ensure everything was OK. In contrast, the list of procedures from VEG includes so many items that were total unnecessary and unfounded. Below, just a few of the things that appeared in VEG's list: Laceration Repair E-collar Peripheral Catheter Penrose Drain Lactated Ringers And there were so many more blood tests and medicines that the list is 3 pages long, while in the other establishment is just bandage, some medicines, x rays and that is it. I have shared the two establishment's lists of procedures with DBPR's officers for the investigation. read more

IN VEG WE LOST TRUST. Emergency pet care is an emotional thing, as all of us with pets know. The VEG experience for us has, before now, been very good. Yes, it is expensive, but I understand the business model & expect to pay more. The care teams & doctors there have always been very attentive, caring & helpful across our 3 visits the past few years. However, the last visit, while still living up to those descriptors above, really eroded our trust. VEG's M.O. is to talk to you about your dog's symptoms, maybe some medical history, do a quick exam, etc, then put together a "treatment plan" to review before proceeding. All good so far. Invariably that initial plan comes back close to or well above $1000. As we found out this last visit, even if your dog only has mild abnormalities, it can reach over $2000! Here's where that is really bad for trust and for business: how that high priced plan is presented. They know you may be stressed about your animal. Of course, you love them and want them to be comfortable & healthy. So what does this team do? Put a long list of tests & treatments that you never heard of in front of you with no real context or options. It's a shock to the system when you are already full of angst due to your pet's situation. Sure, you can say that's too much, then they come back with another one. Again, way too much & no real context or options. All we got this time after 2 "that's too much" was, "Well, what do you think is your budget?". What?? How about you tell me what is a reasonable treatment plan to treat my pet's symptoms until she can get to her normal vet? Don't treat us like the ends to some revenue quota. read more

I'm so glad i was recommended this place by vet. I have a bully mix so for me a number one thing is that they'll treat him like any dog and not like the stereotypes. We had an emergency that scared us at home and they cared for him and catered to his reactivity in ways i can't describe. They put us in a separate private room upon arrival which was needed not only for my dog but for the other ones getting worked on. They attended to us quickly got us a fan and kept an eye on him and really reassured me and listened to all my concerns. The price is the price it's an emergency service it's what i expected but it's appropriate nothing out of this world. At the end of the day when your dog collapses emergent has a different price than a regular vet checkup. While we spent a long time there because much more animals were sicker than mine i left feeling reassured and helped and comfortable taking my dog home. They found he had a cardiac related episode and now we now and are following up. They sent me home with all my documents and treated me and my dog so so well and they are without a doubt 100% present for the animals. Finding a place you trust and feel safe and heard for your animal no matter what breed isn't easy but I fully trusted them in knowing they'll care for any emergency that comes in like if it was their own animal. I thank them for their care and empathy for me and my dog. I can't recommend this place enough for any pet emergency you have. They'll be on my fridge for any emergency. Friendly and competent staff that does a great job supporting pet parents during some of the most difficult times. Everyone always has a positive and empathetic attitude. You can often get a private room with your pet for an overnight, which is a great option. The have snacks and beverages in case you're there for some time. That being said, I think some of the facilities could be a bit more cleaned. For example, we noticed dried blood stains right under our feet and they were not from our animal. It's within a mile from my place so it was good that I didn't have to go across town this late during the night. Upon arrival, I was greeted and they started examining the cat. There was zero wait for me on a Friday night at 2 am, yes zero wait. The place is pretty clean, modern, with a lot of equipments onsite. The personnel was pretty knowledgeable, friendly and took the time to explain what it could be, what they were proposing, the financials, everything. I can't be happier with the professional service I received. Around 4 am, I was heading out with a treatment, x-rays and full examination done, etc. A few days later, they even called me to follow up and see how he was doing. This was a surprise for me, not even doctor offices call you to see how you are doing. I really give them kudos for that. My Princess Luna had been a little sick lately, and was worse this past Tuesday night to the point I had to take her to a 24-hr veterinarian. One thing that makes VEG stand out is that when I first called, they let me speak directly with a doctor to get some information / clarification. Upon arriving at their facility (they have free parking directly close to the clinic), I was allowed to accompany Luna to the clinical area. That's right - unlike a lot of other ER Vets they don't just take our furry child to the back. They have an open treatment area where family members can keep an eye and show love to their doggo or catto. Besides the comfort of letting you sit with your furry child, I really like that their first questions are about their symptoms and history while in the treatment area instead of holding you up front to get a deposit. They set the price after the vet has checked your baby. The team here did provide me an emailed copy of Luna's labs and information to discuss with her regular vet. I came in late Sunday night with my 13-year-old dog who was in a lot of distress and not doing well. It was terrifying, but from the moment we arrived, the team took immediate action. Dr. Mish didn't hesitate for a second to begin helping him, and both she and Dr. Gonzalez were compassionate, supportive, and incredibly thorough. Thanks to their care, they were able to diagnose and stabilize him enough to get him healthy and ready to go home. I truly believe their fast and thoughtful response made all the difference. What meant the most to me was being allowed to stay by my dog's side all night and into the next day. They set us up in a private room with a bed so I could be close to him, and they gave me updates throughout the night without me ever having to ask. Most veterinary offices wouldn't even consider that, and it meant everything to me. The nurses on both the night and day shifts were so attentive and caring. They constantly checked on my dog, made sure he was comfortable with warm blankets and a soft bed, and were always ready to answer any questions I had. One nurse in particular, Nicole, stood out for how dedicated she was--always checking on her patients and treating them like her own. This was a truly heartfelt and warming experience during one of the hardest moments I've faced with my dog. I'm beyond grateful we ended up at this emergency vet. I understand that this is an emergency facility for animals and that costs can be high. However, my experience left me feeling disappointed. I had to wait a long time just to receive a broad price estimate, and after deciding not to proceed with treatment due to the pricing, I had to track someone down to find out how much I needed to pay before leaving. During the visit, they performed a physical exam, checked my cat's heart rate and temperature, and looked him over, but I chose not to approve further services because of the cost. While the front desk staff was polite and helpful, I felt that the veterinary technician was unhappy with the price I was charged, even though it had already been confirmed by the doctor. Overall, it felt like the focus was more on payment than on my cat's care. I don't think this reflects everyone on the team, but unfortunately, that was the impression I got during my visit. read more

Back in April, my baby pitbull was struck by a wreckless driver on our walk. My fiance and I rushed her to this hospital that a witness suggested and we were met with urgent attention. The staff was great. They treated us with a lot of kindness, empathy, and respect. They proceeded with 3 rounds of CPR, which was about 20 or so minutes. I know they did the best they could. Unfortunately she did not make it. We were expecting a thousand dollar bill considering it was an unexpected emergency, but it was around $150. Though, that was one of our worst days, the staff made it a little better. Thank you for your best effort VEG. read more

I have been meaning to put leave a review for VEG for a while now, and I have finally just gotten to it. A few months ago, I had to rush my pupper to the emergency room. Being a new dog mom (and new to the area) at that time, I was very panicked - so I took her to the nearest pet ER which is VEG. When we came in, we were greeted by an amazing staff. They wasted no time and went ahead and saw us. The vet was an open concept. Everything was clean, and the staff were very friendly. One thing to note is the staff treated my dog like their own. The staff and the doctor was really great in communicating to us what is happening with my pup. They made sure we were all comfortable and they allowed us to stay with our pup the whole time. I do say that the bill is a little pricey and they charge you upfront with the most expensive cost if you are planning to stay the night. This is due to any additional meds needed. In our case we did. But they do have payment plans. But we were refunded a difference because my dog reacted well to the treatment during her overnight stay. The whole experience with VEG is amazing. I do hope we won't have to be back again, EVER - since puppy emergencies are a stress. But I'm so happy to know that I found a place for when accidents and emergencies happen. read more

Within 15 minutes he went from perfectly normal to critical, so I rushed him to GoodVets, where Dr. Abraham and her entire team worked tirelessly to stabilize him. They then recommended I transfer him to VEG for overnight treatment and observation, and boy am I glad! Upon arrival at VEG, my dog was seen in under one minute - no wasted time filling out forms and being interrogated about finances, like other emergency clinics in Miami. Their entire concern and focus was on getting my baby the treatment he needed. I was allowed to stay with him the entire time, and they even had a bed where he could rest with me like he does at home. No cold cage! That alone did so much to lessen his stress. The entire team was extremely responsive, patiently answering all my questions and addressing my every concern. They made sure both of us were comfortable and had everything we needed. I cannot say enough good things about VEG! Our 4 year old, problem-free cat, Doobie, was showing some symptoms of a urinary blockage, going in and out of litter box all day without going potty. We scheduled a checkup for him at regular vet office for the next morning, but were advised to go to an emergency clinic if things got worse. Around midnight, since there were no signs of improvement, we decided to bring him in fearing that it was extremely serious and imminent. We called 4 offices nearest to us that were all unavailable and was suggested to try VEG. We called, they answered quickly, and we came in 20 minutes later. We were immediately helped and our little one was given their full attention. Thankfully, there was no urinary obstruction, so no life threatening issues. Turns out our buddy was just experiencing some outside stressors. They prescribed him some anti-inflammatory and anti-anxiety medication to take throughout the rest of the week. Every staff member was so kind, helpful, patient, and empathetic to our all of needs and concerns. Luckily for Doobie, he's getting a new kitty water fountain, a wet food diet, an extra litter box, and a cat door so he can roam our backyard to his little heart's desire (seemingly the main cause of his stress lol). Doobie says Thanks Dr. K! Once again, we are so appreciative of VEG for their professionalism, clean office, and affordable prices. Our total for the emergency visit plus prescriptions was only $239 - another office we called nearby required a $600 deposit to be seen. So I was recommended to this place by my other veterinarian hospital on South Beach and when I went to this place, I've got a small pitbull terrier who must've hurt his legs. I'm assuming...this doctor by the name of Dr. Mish said she had a plan for us, $2200 plan all of which nothing had to do with what my dog was going through ! what I needed was an x-ray which cost $550 and I needed a diagnosis. Not only did they not x-ray him correctly but after waiting three hours, she came back to tell me that she didn't know what was wrong with him. so we paid almost $1000 for somebody who's supposed to be trained had no answer for us. The only thing she did was give us pain medicine . The whole experience was so awful not only was I being lectured on what I was feeding my dog keep in mind, I have over 10 dogs. The oldest one is 13 not one of them has ever been to the vet. !They don't even have their vaccines and I definitely do not give them the garbage of medicines that these doctors shove down our animals throat so when you go to this place, just know that you're dealing with people who are institutionalized who have no idea how to cure anything all they know how to do is push drugs down your anmials throat the same way that they do us humans in our healthcare system. The entire experience was so awful to believe that these doctors think that they know better just because they went to school for nine years but yet after I paid $1000 I got no answer but I sure got a two bottles of painkillers I highly do not recommend this place. I would keep any animals away from them. These doctors they all do the same thing. They're all drug dealers. That's how they're taught in school throw pills at every problem. There are no words to truly describe how amazing my experience was at VEG. 5 stars is not enough for the amazing team that helped us last night. We came to VEG at around 3 am. I am a bit of a helicopter dog mom and don't take any chances when it comes to his health, and I was worried my dog was experiencing heat exhaustion or heat stroke symptoms given that the AC in my apartment broke after coming back from an afternoon at dog training since he was not cooling down. Just with the AC in my car on the way there his symptoms were pretty much gone. No fever, no hot or dry nose, no sticky gums, no panting, no hazy eyes, no more cough, no more diarrhea, etc. I still decided to go in and get him checked out just in case. From the moment we walked in we were treated with so much kindness. They immediately took care of us - no wait time at all and no questions asked. Straight away they said, "let's get you checked in". It's an open concept so they keep you and your pet together at all times (unless of course they need to perform surgery). I can't even express how amazing this concept is. Both myself and my dog get extremely anxious at the vet, and the worst part is when they take him "to the back" to get him checked out. Half the time vets end up coming back with him and ask if they can perform the exams with me since he is so terrified. This concept allows us to stay together and allows me to calm him down and facilitate them helping him. It also allows for pet owners to feel secure and advocate for their animals. I felt silly at this point, since my dog seemed perfectly fine by the time we arrived. They reassured me I was not wasting their time and did not dismiss me at all. Dr. Gabriela Iribar was by our side in a matter of minutes checking my dog's vitals alongside the two techs and really made sure he was in perfect condition. They take the name "emergency" seriously- no absurd waiting times. Every single staff member was extremely kind, welcoming, and warm with us and my terrified dog. He was attacked when he was young and when I took him to a different ER the vet was terrified of him because of his breed (she would not go near him), even with me explaining he has never had a single aggression issue in his life and he is just shy and scared. They were so kind to him, they showed him love and compassion, and they treated him with all the care in the world. Even though my dog's vitals were perfect, they still took us seriously. They said they saw no need to perform any treatment, but if I wanted to they could do a fecal (for the diarrhea) and if I reallly wanted to they could do bloodwork but that they saw no need. I opted for the fecal since he recently recovered from a parasite. They at no point pushed for un-necessary testing the way some vets do just to charge you more. Dr. Iribar even offered us the room they have for us to rest in since we had no AC at home. (This room is for pet parents who choose to stay when their pets are admitted, how awesome is that!). This was going above and beyond their job description. Overall, our experience was quick and perfect in every single way. Having an emergency with your pet is always one of the worst days to experience, and even though ours ended up not being an emergency I can say with confidence that they made the anxious moments feel so much better. If we ever (hopefully not) do have a real emergency they would be the only hospital I would want to go to. Thank you to Dr. Iribar and to the two techs (I'm sorry for not getting their name- I was not in the right mindset) that truly made us feel at home. I'm forever grateful to have such an amazing team a mile away from where we live. read more

Our senior Puggle, Paisley, was showing signs of distress and I immediately remembered that this emergency vet group had recently opened in our neighborhood. I called and they immediately guided me on if I should bring her in or not. It was decided that it was the best thing to do. The young lady on the phone sent me a text with a link to fill out some important information so that when we arrived, she would be immediately seen. The minute we arrived, they greeted us immediately by name and brought us in to see the vet. I was a little taken aback at first because it was an enormous room with several examination tables and several dogs being examined at the same time by different vets. It makes total sense rationally, but I was feeling a bit fragile due to my dog's situation and didn't really want to see other dogs in distress. Once I got over that, the vet was fantastic. She had an idea of what our girl had, and she gave us several options to find out what was going on with her. She never pressured us into running a million tests. She escorted us to a private room, sent in a gentleman who came in and explained the pricing for every test and pulled the shades down so my husband and I could discuss in private. Once we decided on starting with bloodwork, they immediately took the blood sample and gave us the results within minutes since they do everything (X-rays, etc) in house. Sadly, our girl was terminally ill and there wasn't much we could do for her. The vet was so incredibly compassionate and kind. She said we could stay as long as possible to say our goodbyes. Once we were ready, she entered the room and let us know how the euthanasia process would work step by step, which really calmed me down. She answered all of our questions. I had dreaded this moment my entire life, but she did everything to make it as gentle as possible on us. The team brought us Kleenex, cold water bottles, and even had snacks available. Just as I had rescued our sweet and noble girl almost 12 years earlier from a shelter, I held her in my arms one last time as she crossed over to the other side. The vet really made the experience so special. I really would like to thank everyone for their outstanding professionalism and decorum. It made all the difference in the world at one of the most difficult times of our lives. I would highly recommend this veterinary emergency group. Your pet will be in great and capable hands. GREED was the priority for VEG. The stray Siamese kitten that I took in had no broken bones, was not unconscious, was not bleeding, was not having a seizure, had not suffered any injuries. He was very lethargic, had a fever and was not eating. Yet, rather than wanting to take care of him and help ease his discomfort by addressing his condition going step by step, the doctor's priority was to immediately give me an estimate of over TWO THOUSAND DOLLARS after only taking his temperature. Before sending a staff member to present that estimate to me, the doctor spent no more than 3 minutes with us. Absurd!! read more

Stella, Chris Nieves, and Dr. Verea. These three are modern day heroes. We walked in after midnight for our dog. I was in tears, and we were holding her while she was bleeding. Stella came out from the ER room like an angel from heaven. She saw me, and ran over, and took my dog from my arms. She saw that I was crying. She hugged me. She comforted me. She talked to my dog in English and Spanish, whispering the kindest, warmest, most wonderful things to her. She brought us water, and gave me something to wipe my tears. She saw my shoelaces were untied, and I was in such distress, I didn't notice, and she bent down and tied them. This is a person who does not belong entirely on earth. She is so special, so kind, so good hearted, I want the world to protect her at all costs. She was attentive and her and Chris worked like a dream team to take care of my elderly 16 year old dog. Dr. Verea came over with ease, with confidence, with kindness, and a serene disposition, same as Chris Nieves, same as Stella, and stitched her up like a professional surgeon, with expertise and care, using only local anesthesia. She was wrapped up by Chris Nieves, and bandaged with the utmost care. All the tears we cried, and all the fear and worry were put away because of this dream team of heroes, of wonderwomen, and wondermen. In all my time in MIami, I have never ever ever encountered such kindess, and especially in such a scary moment. My dog is healing, and her stitches stayed intact. She was taken care of like she was royalty- but royalty who was also family, and also loved. Stella's face, and her smile and her warmth, and words, and deeds will stay with me perhaps forever. Kindness like that should not go unnoticed. I wish I could buy her a horse, and a farm, or a building, or send her on a world wide vacation. She deserves everything. While in Miami on a work trip, I found a Doggie Daycare to watch Bruno, my best friend, while I was at work during the day. One afternoon, when I picked him up, he was limping, barely walking on three legs, and screaming/crying loudly. The daycare place tried to tell me he had slept on it wrong and that once the blood got flowing, he would be fine. I knew that was a lie since I'd had him for seven years, and this had never happened. Since it was about 7 p.m. and I was in a place (N. Miami) that I was unfamiliar with, I Googled "Pet Emergency Room." VEG on Biscayne Blvd came back as the closest place to take him. I called to be sure they were open, and the receptionist told me they were open 24 hours a day and told me to bring him in. When I arrived, I went inside and asked them where I could park. The receptionist (Isis) was the most friendly person I have ever met. She took Bruno into one of their triage rooms and told me she would watch him until I parked and came back in. Once I was in the room with him, two nurses came in. They were both excellent. One stood out more. I wish I could remember her name, but she gave Bruno so much attention to help him calm down, but it was unreal. We only had a 10-minute wait until Dr. Maylin Verea entered the room. LOL, she had the most excellent bedside manner you could imagine. Bruno was lying on the floor, and she knelt to examine him instead of making him get up. She was extremely thorough. Once she knew he was calm, she got him up to watch him walk so she could get a better idea of the severity of his injury. She determined that he must have been run over or beat up (for the lack of a better term) by one of the larger dogs at the doggie daycare. She decided to write two prescriptions: an anti-inflammatory and a pain medicine for him. She was extremely thorough because she wanted to do a blood test to make sure the anti-inflammatory would be okay for him. The two nurses drew blood for the blood test. The young female who had paid so much attention to him sat down next to him, held him, and talked to him while the male nurse took the blood. Bruno never even flinched. After about 15 minutes, Dr. Verea returned with a copy of the blood work results and said he was good to take the anti-inflammatory medicine. It's been a week, and he is finally walking better, about 85% back to normal. If your pet ever needs medical help, your regular vet isn't open, or you're out of town, this is the place to go.
