I had evidence of mold in my home from testing and told Mr. Taylor that I smelled mold in the bedroom corner and the kitchen. He gave me a 34-page "bid" (estimate), which I read in full, only to find that it was entirely boilerplate and did not explain anything about the findings or proposed remediation plan or explanation of why they needed to charge $6,000 to do what he had explained to me was simply uncaulk, dehumidify, recaulk, clean the ducts, and clean the HVAC, which is about $1300 of work. I repeatedly requested a short summary of the work to do be done, only to be told that it had to be discussed instead. I called him, and he verified the scope of work I mentioned. His explanation was that it had to be done to industry standards, which included putting the house under negative pressure and doing the work all at once, so that there was no mold flying around or cross-contamination. I told him we could not afford $6,000 and would seek to do the indicated work with other contractors, which we did. The duct cleaning guy begged me not to waste my money on duct cleaning, since he'd cleaned our ducts the year before and mold does not live in ducts, but we got it done anyway, following Mr. Taylor's general work plan. Duct guy was right; it made no difference. The two issues I had identified Mr. Taylor incorrectly indicated were caused by the HVAC (bedroom) and the kitchen drips, and that once the source of water was stopped and the area dried, we wouldn't need to close up the gap in the kitchen cabinet wall. He was wrong on both counts. I continue to smell mold coming from the bedroom wall and the kitchen cabinet. I called him to ask for additional diagnostic help with the bedroom wall issue. He did not return my call. When I called the next time, he had no recollection of the service and attributed our poor results to our not having used his state-of-the-art plan, which would not have made any difference, because he misdiagnosed the two main issues. I requested his additional help, which he refused to provide.
