It's a Salt Lake City staple for a reason! I brought my family here for dinner and wondered why I…read moredon't come here more often. It was the Monday during the holiday break after Christmas where no one is wanting to cook, so it seemed like everyone had the same idea of going out to eat. We had a party of 5 and waited at the bar for 15 minutes until our table was ready. Service was super friendly and wonderful. When we were seated, our server Sebastian was great. I forgot how much I love their garden burger patty and their garlic rosemary fries. They also have a spicy black bean option for the vegetarians/vegans. Obviously they have a ton of great options for the meat eaters primarily, I mean it's a burger bar how could they not. Needless to say, I won't be forgetting about this place ever again! Dice bar vibes on the inside, and in the summer they have a lovely patio too.

Their patio is great. Our server, Juan, was awesome. He checked on us just the right amount and was very knowledgeable on the menu!! For drinks, I got a Diet Coke (duh), and my husband got a beer. The Diet Coke came in a HUGE glass (as it should!!) and the brew was good. He got the rabbit foot brewing beach bunny and really enjoyed it. Juan let us know people have been loving this and that the owner of lucky 13 is involved with rabbit foot brewing. Love a local connection!! For food, I got the celestial burger and my husband got the ol man. Omg they were delicious!! They are on the pricier side, but the portions are BIG. Could def be shared. Their onion rings are amazing. I tried the rosemary garlic fries and they were delicious!! I would def recommended checking out lucky 13!!

While visiting Salt Lake City from out of town, we treated ourselves to a fancy dinner at Monte, a…read morerestaurant that is rumored to be angling for a Michelin star. From the description on their website about a "chef-driven" experience, I thought it would be a chef's table, but in actuality it was a pre fixe menu, as we never talked to chef Martin Babio, although our server told us about each course. Online reviews are mixed, so we were a little concerned to be the only customers on a Thursday if it really were a simultaneous seating event (another couple came in 45 minutes later). TL;DR: It was worth the money. Drinks: rose lemonade (from a bottle, but the best lemonade hubby says he's ever had), a glass of brut to celebrate the publication of my book next week, and the house still (tap) water. The "snack" (hors oeuvre) was two bites. One was the best thing hubby has ever eaten that was made out of beets (which he doesn't usually like). The other was a light green puree with trout roe that made me exclaim out loud. Then we got three kinds of bread (breadsticks, sourdough, brioche) but didn't want to fill up on it. What we didn't eat was packaged it up for breakfast and lunch the next day. The brioche was realllly good, especially with the house-made butter (even the next day--the sourdough didn't keep well). I didn't finish the take on French onion soup, because I didn't think the onions were caramelized enough; however, hubby prefers his onions less cooked and liked it. The quail ravioli came in a sauce that didn't have enough salt, but it was balanced if eaten with the pasta. Next, the "black course" was a two-bite squid ink beignet with rabbit in the center. The protein was a really excellent 3 ounces of beef with two sauces. Then came a palate cleanser that was the best tasting "green drink" we've ever had (mint, lime, cucumber, and some other things). Between that and the dessert--the silkiest chocolate tart imaginable--the dinner was worth it. The last chef's table we did (for Valentine's Day) had portions that were too large. These were just right (although I did have to take my bonus madeleine home, since I was full by that point). Staff are attentive but let you enjoy the meal. The setting is industrial with a side of woodsman-naturalist. The music was loud but fun. My only real critique is that the restaurant is located inside Beehive Distillery, so when we arrived via Google Maps, we thought we were at the wrong building, and I had to double-check the address. Otherwise, 5 stars, would do again for a fancy occasion.

Emailed the chef/restaurant a week before making reservation. I'm allergic to mushrooms. The chef…read moreassured me that there would be no mushrooms on the short menu. I book. I arrive. The menu has two mushroom items. Apparently they forgot truffles are mushrooms and keep trying to upsell me on them as well. After a conversation, they assure me they can make dishes without mushrooms. Wonderful. I order the wine pairing to go with the meal. In this conversation I ask them multiple times if I should leave. They ask me: "how bad are your allergies?" I explain I can't eat mushrooms- but I do have an epi pen. I have the first drink and appetizer. They bring out the bread (which is a course on their menu). It's been an hour. They pour my second glass, but as my dish for it hasn't arrived, I don't partake of it. The waiter comes back (its now after 9 pm) and tells me they can't accommodate me due to my allergies. Can I please pay $70 for the wine tasting and leave? The wine tasting you didn't serve me? Yes, its Utah state law. I look up the law. It's not. They charge me for the two glasses they have poured - the second which I never took a sip from. They somehow changed their version of what the law is? Very disappointed. Its a good thing my hotel was still serving food. I skipped lunch to come to this place. I was really looking forward to it based on the reviews.

PSA: come here to cure your lunch hunger!…read more With massive sandwiches churning out of this deli / market duo, it is the perfect spot to swing by during the work day. Head to the back deli upon walking in and you will be asked for your order at the counter. I recommend your first order be a half sandwich - don't be macho like me and think you can handle a whole because you'll be wrestling with it all afternoon and possibly skip dinner. While you wait for the sando, browse the Asian themed market for a unique find, such as a flavor of Lays you've never tried (or seen!) or even a hot sauce from the many they carry. Orders can be taken to go, or eaten outside on one of their many tables. I'll definitely be back soon, they are open for business no doubt about that!
