Woa. So happy I found Tomahawk…read more After years of botched self-cuts and salons that felt too "mainstream", I've finally found my soul salon in Tomahawk. My style has always been feminine, with a slight edge--and that is exactly what I got with Donna Rae's undercut. After showing photos of what I thought I'd wanted, Donna Rae took my hair texture, maintenance (or lack thereof), and style into consideration and led me down the rabbit hole. Presented me with a cut I felt was made for me. Thank you Tomahawk!

Just got my first haircut here with Donna, and will absolutely be back. I have a curly pixie with…read moreshaved sides, and since my regular stylist moved out of NYC, I've been looking for someone who could bring my overgrown hair back to its normal look. I described the cut that I usually got and showed her some pictures, and Donna jumped right in with suggestions of how to maximize the growing out period and maintain the shape of my cut. She instantly made me feel at ease and like I was in good hands. As she buzzed and cut my hair, she gave me tips for taking care of my scalp and what products would work on my longer hair, but never pushed anything on me. This is why I love boutique salons -- since stylists aren't trying to make sales quotas with products, any recommendations feel genuine, and you never feel pressured to buy anything just to be polite. When I looked over my hair once the cut is done, Donna explained how she did the cut and how the growth would come back in -- this was so reassuring, since with my style of hair, a cut that looks 100% blended and clean after the appointment can often have a weird regrowth. Donna took all of these factors into account when giving me this cut -- I would highly recommend her if you're looking for an experienced stylist who knows her way around short hair of all textures. I also love how this salon does not price based on gender, rather by hair length. I've gone to many salons where a cut for my very short hair was $10-20 more expensive than one that would be given to a man, despite using the exact same tools and techniques. So seeing their pricing was very refreshing. My haircut came out to $55 before tip, which is definitely less than many cuts I've gotten in the past. The salon is *cash only.* In terms of what they are doing for protections during the pandemic, I felt very safe entering into the salon. Everyone wore masks, and there are multiple hand sanitizing stations, both in the actual salon and in the larger building. I was given a disposable cape and the stations are well spaced to give the stylists and clients plenty of room while still maintaining social distancing.

The lobby staff greeted me and pointed me to the area she was working, She was set up ready to go and started. Emma worked meticulously and asked me about my haircut experiences and typical hairstyles. She pointed out to my head shape and how to have my haircut moving forward. I ended with a low haircut with a fade. I had my hair washed and then stylized with hair gel. She recommended me to a hair gel sold in Arroyo for me to use alongside pomade for my hair styling. Its not just a salon for women. It is also a must go place for men to get quality haircuts. Can't wait to return

These days, as a disabled senior, I like to keep my hair fuss down to a buzzcut, but had gone way too long without a cut, so trust me, I was a hot-headed-mess. David the owner jumped right in giving me the perfect cut (and did it dry too, which few people do well!) and I left looking and feeling terrific! The salon is spotless and has a great upscale, but cool, arty vibe helped by the warmest staff imaginable who were busy with other customers, but not too busy to greet me as I rolled by them to the station where David did his magic! LOVE!! I am recommending this place to EVERYONE and would give it more YELP stars if I could! THANKS D'SHAL - I'LL BE BACK SOON!!

I called and made an appointment with Yannick a week early and was very nervous! The salon is definitely on the more expensive side, which always makes me a bit anxious because my expectations also becomes higher. The day of I had to call and reschedule due to some conflict in my schedule and eventually arrive an hour late. The staff was warm and nice and told me not to worry about it. They were able to push my appointment back luckily, which I really appreciate! The salon is located inside a building toward the back. The only way to find it is a small sign that is placed outside the front door. The studio itself is gorgeous with a relaxing atmosphere. When I arrived Yannick greeted me right away and settled me in taking my coat etc etc and offering water. We chatted for a bit about what I was looking for and what I absolutely did not want ( choppy layers ). He assured me not to worry and we headed off to wash my hair. During the whole process I felt pampered and relaxed. I get anxious easily at salons but this place really made me feel comfortable. I enjoyed their music as well ( hipster indie slow stuff ) which really set the mood and reminded me a little bit of cali for a bit. Yannick combed out my hair very thoroughly and washed my hair himself. He was very intricate and detailed oriented! I thought he was don't several times but he told me he had only worked on one part and had to do another. By the end of the hair cut I felt that he knew my hair much better than I ever did. It was amazing! My hair looked amazing and felt amazing after. I had told him I was going on a date after so he offered to make some natural waves for me and also showed me some tricks!
