I was visiting the area and stopped in for a quick bite before a two-hour drive home after someone recommended this place for a salad. The gentleman helping me was very nice and put on gloves to prepare my food. However, while I was deciding what to order, he used his phone while still wearing the same gloves and then went directly to making my salad without changing them. That really concerned me from a food-safety standpoint. Phones can carry a lot of germs, and seeing the same gloves used on the phone and then on the lettuce made me uncomfortable enough that I ended up throwing the salad away. Since I still had a two-hour drive home, it was especially frustrating because I had specifically stopped to get something to eat for the trip. I opted for the mesa verde thanks to many great reviews about it. It consists of romaine lettuce, cilantro, black beans, chicken, tomatoes, red onions, corn, tortilla strips, and I subbed in a lemon tahini dressing. I also got a kombucha to-go, but they had plenty of other great canned drinks including Poppi. When I pulled up to this outlet of the area's salad chain of good repute, I thought it might be drive-through takeout because of the way the road ringed around the little building. It was not, and I had to get out of my car and walk in to get my salad, but it was nonetheless a quick experience, which was on point as I had things to do. The salad was predictably majestic, both in appearance and in substance. Getting things like baked falafel and pecans make it quite substantive, and their ranch dressing is vegan and helps the kale go down. This is a place that offers tons of customization options, plenty of substance for the plant-based diner who wants an actual meal, and distinctive local flavors. And while the overall economic trends are well known, the price here was not the most expensive bowl I've had lately, despite the fact that it was of high quality and there was a good amount of stuff packed in there. I stopped in today to check out the new location and it's a great additions to the Mixson neighborhood. My dog groomer is down the street so I dropped off my pup for a trim and picked up lunch. You walk in and go through the line which is standard for fast casual spots. I did a build your own wrap and made my own spicy buffalo chicken. I did romaine, corn, spicy broccoli, jalapenos, chicken, blue cheese, cucumbers, buffalo hot sauce, and vegan ranch. I have to say this was a great lunch and I would order it the same way again. I do sort of a hybrid- greens with quinoa and rice- topped with tomatoes black beans, cucumbers and broccoli. bTW the broccoli is crunchy but not raw- it's the perfect texture for a salad/rice bowl. I think I just found the holy grail of gourmet salads. I did a pickup order of the southern harvest bowl and the flu fighter green tea drink and oh my goodness. That salad was so delicious.
