5 stars for great, hearty salads in a convenient location…read more King Street has tons of sit down restaurants, but when I was in need of a quick, healthy lunch to take on the go, Yelp led me to Verde. I opted for the mesa verde thanks to many great reviews about it. It consists of romaine lettuce, cilantro, black beans, chicken, tomatoes, red onions, corn, tortilla strips, and I subbed in a lemon tahini dressing. I also got a kombucha to-go, but they had plenty of other great canned drinks including Poppi. I didn't eat there as I was planning to cowork at my hotel, but everything was packed well and traveled well. Overall, a solid lunch option for people on the go!

When I arrived to pick up mine, the one person there was sitting on the counter, which I found a little dubious (near the cash register, not in a food prep area). My salad was nonetheless resplendent, both in appearance and in substance. Ample options were offered, and mixing fruit with basil for flavor and adding a black bean burger to my greens to fill me up gave me a salad that took two sittings to finish. Ordering a hard to find local tea from their marketplace wasn't a bad decision either. There is a little room here to sit in, but this outlet is clearly geared towards takeout, and it is quality stuff.

My favorite spot by far on our Charleston itinerary; my only regret is that our trip was so short…read morethat we did not have time for a second visit. Their banana bread had been recommended to me as a must-try but after a quick glance at the menu, I wanted to try at least five other things. First things first: the banana bread. 10/10. If you leave here without getting a slice warmed up with butter, you're doing yourself a serious disservice. It didn't even taste like banana bread but had the texture of a soft eggy French toast. I was so entranced with it that I managed to squirrel away half for the next day. Also got their jammy eggs because I'm an egg fiend. They were delicious, topped with chives and some chili crisp, but $7 for two eggs in this economy was a little hard to swallow. Next time I'm here, I'd want to try the quiche and the pickled shrimp toast. And they also have peanut milk?? Tucked away on a side street off the much busier King, Babas can be easy to miss but wow - talk about treasures coming in tiny sizes. There's some indoor seating and outdoor tables but don't bank on getting a table right away if you're coming on a weekend morning. The line moves quickly so we didn't mind waiting.

I don't even know how to rate Babas on Cannon. Just WOW! 11/10 for creative drinks. My husband got…read morea macchiato espresso, which is just a basic drink, but he loved it. I ordered the peanut drink because I had never heard of anything close to it. Usually when I order a special or flavored coffee, I don't like them and only drink about half before throwing it out. This blew my mind. It was like a Reese's in a coffee. Think sipping chocolate, but Reese's style. That drink isn't just good, it's unforgettable. I didn't order any food, but I looked around and it looked really good as well. I highly recommend making a point to stop here in Charleston.

When we made our Tuesday dinner reservation the day before, there was nothing available before 8:30pm. But when I checked on Tuesday afternoon several slots had opened up and we were able to move ours up to an earlier time. The food was very good. It is a bit on the pricier side but earns it: fresh, quality ingredients and all expertly cooked and nicely plated. Delicate and balanced seasoning, and very tasty but subtle sauces. Especially enjoyed the combination of Brussels Sprouts on a bed of pureed parsnips. We had the flounder and the Gumbo for our entrees. And while they didn't look very substantial, we were quickly full. The ciabatta and parmesan butter that we couldn't resist may have had a little to do with that.

We were told there was no fish of the day and expressed our disappointment. Crickets. So we ordered off the menu which we are very familiar with. Lo and behold I start hearing other servers describing wahoo and catfish dishes at great length. Our server returned and I asked why I'm hearing everyone talking about the fish of the day. He said I'm not allowed to tell them until 5 pm. WHAT???? You start charging dinner prices at 4 pm. At least you could have told me that and I would have sat and enjoyed my wine for 15 minutes. But nope, you did not disclose that until after I asked and our orders were placed. I'm just giving folks a heads up that may be making reservations. Wait until 5pm if you want to hear the specials. I'm giving four stars for food quality only. We have been coming here for 30 years. Made me very sad.

When we visited on a weekday evening, we were seated quickly with no wait! We started with the corn ribs, which were honestly one of the BEST appetizers we've ever had! They had the texture and flavor of ribs but were made from corn and served with an incredible chipotle dipping sauce that brought everything together perfectly! For our main dish, we ordered the spinach and feta pita, which was warm, gooey, and packed with flavor. The pita was stuffed with spinach and feta, making it rich and comforting--almost like a warm hug. It also came with a fresh side salad that was tangy and refreshing, which balanced the richness of the pita really well! I do wish that the pita was a bit more flavorful on the inside, not just the outside. My husband also ordered an Old Fashioned and said it was excellent. Overall, the food felt incredibly fresh and thoughtfully prepared. If you're looking for a cozy spot in Charleston with fresh ingredients and great flavors, this place is definitely worth visiting!
