Earlier in the day we purchased a full tank of gas. The attendant was very helpful and courteous.
At 9:30pm tonight we stopped in to grab a few provisions. Unfortunately, I waited in the car. As she put the items on the counter she asked tall man working there if she could start a pile. He said sure, honey, you can do whatever you want.
She said "Don't call me honey. I'm not that girl"
She kept shopping while 2 male customers kept talking to him, the man behind the counter. They made comments between each other while their girlfriends or wives were standing right there at the checkout counter. Then this bearded employee made my wife move the pile of snacks to another counter register just to keep her there a little bit longer...
The male customers kept chiming in and saying derogatory things in earshot of my wife. She asked for a couple Lotto tickets, then he said "Baby girl, you can have whatever you want" This set my wife off.
She paid for the products and came out to the car. I hear her story as we drive away. I wanted to turn around, but she begged me not to. My wife can take care of herself in every situation, but this was a sexist attack and hurtful. Who's next? I can't imagine if it were a warm summer day and a woman walks in with shorts and a tank top.
We will drive to Bend for gas, and slight provisions. The vulgarity was palpable and she felt threatened.
