It wasn't until my Sister suggested to me that I should try Zumba as a form of Fitness/Cardio, thinking I would actually enjoy making "dance" the solution for getting my Cardio in. She was RIGHT! That 1 hour of nonstop dancing is the most effective cardio exercise I've ever done. My first experience with Zumba was at the gym in which I was doing my weight training. The atmosphere was fine but, definitely a more subdued "gym atmosphere." One day a woman I'd met there told me that I should try Danzar stating it was "more fun." I thought, "More fun?!...than this!?" This I had to see for myself! The following week I went to Danzar and found out she was RIGHT. The atmosphere was much more communal and that of a 1 hour Dance Party. The energy was off the hook and it was clear the folks there had forged a wonderful connection with Danzar and each other. I've been a regular there ever since! When you are gathered together with a large group of people, moving in harmony with one another to an insanely infectious rhythm, you feel you are all part of a tribe. A tribe forged by joy! I convinced myself to sign up for AlReal Yoga. Please know I haven't done yoga in over a year and at no point did I look graceful or at all like I know what I'm doing. AlReal Yoga involves the use of a hammock to provide a deeper stretch because you get a little more stability. I thought I'd lost my mind for deciding to make that my first experience trying yoga again. Bless Belinda. She took one look at me and came over to offer reassurance. I appreciated the fact that she helped me figure out what to do during class when I floundered around with the hammock. After sweating like I'd run 3 miles and feeling like and uncoordinated oaf, I promised myself I'd come back the following week. I noticed the next day I was sore in all the right places. I ended signing up for Morning Yoga with Jami and enjoyed that also. She reassured me and I got an excellent stretch from that session. The lady working the gym today was such a buzz kill. I am all about following the rules and being safe especially in a climbing environment. We were told two rules at the beginning. Harness and shoes must be worn in rope areas and the bouldering area is off limits to 5 and under and that was changing soon. Icing on the cake was the pretentious tone she gave my young son and I by stating that he wouldn't enjoy climbing as he is being put in a harness. Way to set him up for success by saying a negative comment before he even gets to try it. Remember boulderdash staff what you say around kids they absorb. Words have a huge impact. You might "teach" children in your classes but not all children are the same. I've never been to a climbing gym that a manager can go climb with friends and family for hours. She wasn't supervising who was coming in and out and what was happening throughout the gym. When said manager did decide to come around she was randomly yelling at our kids or us for not doing things she never told us about in the first place. One star for the power trip employee with a negative attitude. One star for the cleanliness of the facility. It could use a deep cleaning. Sanitizer stations would be good. The lady working chased and almost grabbed my child for accidentally walking in the restroom with her climbing shoes to wash her hands. Again I understand it's the rules and we followed the rules given. That was one moment a child forgot and a parent was standing up to stop the child from going in. The gym had plenty of beginner routes and top ropes. Boulder area could use improvements. The weight station is a joke. A few free weights and kettle bells crammed in a corner. We will stick with climbing outdoors. After all it is Southern California.

Please motivate me enough to kick me out of bed or off the sofa! Otherwise, I find it hard to heave-ho myself on to a treadmill. Torture. Can't. Won't. I need someone to tell me what to do (because I'm a lazy lug otherwise. Is three reps enough?) and make sure I do it properly. Better still if they can tell a joke or two while I'm sweating. But I'm also cheap. I have to strike a reasonable balance between needing motivation and needing to conserve cash-ola. That's why I like this place. Chris has done a great job of training me and my partner without killing our wallet. He's able to train us at the same time, adjusting exercises for my high cardio fitness and my partner's arthritic ankle, my knee injury and his upper body strength. We get a fast, hard workout that makes me feel strong, and improves my fitness. The location is great for us. Parking is easy. And Chris is a bright, fun, entertaining trainer who knows his stuff.
