Boy, was I wrong. I agree with Bob F. and he wrote his review 7 years ago. The administration, especially Evan and Johnathon, tell you what you want to hear. I just found out that Johnathon is the owner's son, so that really tells you they don't care. If you do not have an advocate checking on your loved one, you had better get one. My dad was in memory care due to his Parkinson's. James, who runs Memory Care, and his staff try their best to help when problems come up, but they are extremely understaffed. When I went to Evan and Johnathon to complain about it a few times I got nowhere. I even told Evan he should go help change briefs as that is what James does to help out. My dad passed away 3 weeks ago and I have yet to get a call, card, or any condolence from the Townehouse. The staff at Memory Care showed our family much sympathy, but to get nothing from the Townehouse management is an utter disgrace.

For decades Ventura Townehouse has provided the most beautiful, warm, and social environment, exceptionally managed by five star professionals who go above and beyond. The main independent living areas have a resort vibe and the dining room and grounds are gorgeous. Memory care is the loveliest I've seen in California. Every room has its own front patio entrance. The memory care community house is a hub of constant activity and has a delightful large patio and lawn area where there are holiday events with live music. My husband and I enjoy sitting outside and talking with the memory care residents. It feels like a real home and a real family. Everyone seems as content as possible. The professionals are superb at their jobs and make it look effortless.

This is a shady operation. And I'm gonna sell you. This is not the last time. They're gonna see me because I'm coming back. I'm gonna get trained as an ombudsman for skilled nursing facilities and I'll be making my return to do reports to the health department. This is dirty and shady. There are some great people that work there and there are some nurses that think they are gods. Not good. They lie and they steal. There are good workers. Ashlynn was great.Dino....great....... They need to train the new people coming in. They need to train the non-caring nurses that probably took the nursing course online during Covid because they have no idea how to divvy out pain medicine to a person who is in need. I waited well over my time. And then they said well you're supposed to tell me you're in pain. I said I've been ringing my bill now for over an hour and a half and I told the doctor and he said oh I'll talk to them. Bullshit he's just as bad. Some big fluffy guy comes in and says he's the doctor. Tells me you will get your medicine on time and the next time it was not on time. I checked myself out. They paid for me to go home because they knew I knew too much. Don't put a family member there if you care about them. There is infection breeding in that place. Look at the pictures I took and that's just a few. Scary and shady that's how I would rate this place. Scary and shady. Now if you are lucky enough to meet Hans Taylor, you are lucky because he is the backbone of that place. He is the angel. He is the really best thing that Place has and if they don't give him a raise, that's sad. He was a sweetheart. The entire time to me helped me out more than anybody there. He even gave me a ride home. Bless his heart. There are angels and he is one of them. The little lady in the bed next to me knows what shadiness goes on there and she told me yeah you be careful of this one and this one and this one she said you have to just play the game Karen. I said OK I gotcha.

With my background and professional experience I believe I am well qualified to make this review. Also my current condition has lasted several months and as I progressed I was moved to a few different facilities. I started at Cottage which was like going to the Biltmore. Four page food menu with excellent food and all you wanted. Next I went to the Californian, definitely a step down from Cottage but OK. I was then transferred to this facility in Ojai. What a nightmare!!! Poorly trained staff. There were exceptions but I had some staff tell me their dirty secrets, including not being paid Ca. minimum wage. The food was jail grade and there were no alternatives. I m writing this in hope that I will save someone the nightmare I went through there. With my background I had thought I knew all there was to know about Ca. Civil Law but I was caught in this bureaucracy that I had never heard of where a patient may be held against his will for up to 3 weeks. I can't believe all our Civil Rights as an American citizen may be taken away because we get sick? I would rather go to jail than go back to this facility.

The facility takes…read morecare of men and women who are recovering from various maladies, and hoping to get well enough to leave there. Everybody at Santa Paula just wanted to go home, and I was no exception. The facility was a bit drab and dreary, as many of these places tend to be..."the nature of the beast" as they say. Although the Activity Department made a valiant attempt at keeping people occupied and busy with Bingo, movies, art and other games, Santa Paula Post Acute was still not "home." Residents were cared for on a day-to-day basis by CNAs (Certified Nurses' Assistants). There were also nurses (LVNs and RNs) who oversaw the passing of medications to patients, among other duties. Several nurses were also employed in the facility's various offices. During the years I was there, Santa Paula Post Acute did not have a very strong administration, which tended to lead to chaos and upsetting results in the running of the facility. I hope things are better there now! Santa Paula Post Acute is located at 250 March Street in Santa Paula.

The medical staff is very patient and caring to her needs. The dietary program exceeds our expectations. There are daily activities for her to participate from Bingo to Karaoke. Every visit to the facility is pleasant and have always found mom to be well taken care of. Of course there is no place like home, but there are circumstances where the family can no longer meet the needs and 24 hour trained staff is needed. Very compassionate staff.

Please note this review is not about the therapists themselves but that hardly matters if you can't actually get in to see them. My insurance cleared me for 20 sessions without ANY time restrictions or expiration date. They were only "able" to get me in 5 times and that was a full five weeks after I was supposed to start. On the 6th appt they said they put their own end date in their system and therefore I couldn't be seen that day and had me fill out my forms all over again but after three phone calls over two weeks, I never got in again, nor were they able to email or print my exercises then or on any of my visits. And it's not just me, every single time I sat in the waiting room I watched them turn away people for various clerical reasons -- they literally sent elderly people home who had clearly gone to great lengths to secure transportation there. Turned away children whose parents had gotten time off to bring their children there. Offering no apologies, only random excuses about glitches in their computer system, just shameful. The facility is clean enough but the equipment is very old. DON'T RISK YOUR HEALTH. There are numerous facilities to choose from nearby and many more a short drive further.
