My daughter and son both had to use this office and we have been disappointed both times. The latest incident was my daughter having to have her rubberbands put on in the WAITING ROOM. They didn't draw it on the back of the pack like they are supposed to do. They laughed at her and she still didn't understand how to put them on. We've already paid them in full so we have no choice, but I would NEVER refer anyone to them. I will be continuing to post further incidents as they occur. read more

My family and I recently traveled to California from Texas for Spring Break. My 14 year old son has braces and one of his wires broke loose while we were in Ventura. He did his best to endure it but the sharp wire was digging into his cheek, causing him significant discomfort, and distracting him from enjoying the trip. We were far from home and knew we had to fix the problem. I bought small pliers and clippers at a hardware store in case we couldn't find an orthodontist who could help. Luckily, I didn't have to implement a DIY solution. I called the office of Dr. Bruce Abbink (Ventura Orthodontic Group) and explained the situation. The lady I spoke with was understanding and friendly. She said they could help us and made sure we knew how to find the building. We didn't know what to expect when we entered the office. I envisioned stacks of paperwork and a costly bill but my fears were unfounded. Everyone was welcoming and treated us like family the moment we walked through the door. Dr. Abbink quickly put my son at ease with some friendly sports talk. He clipped the wandering wire and ensured my son would be comfortable for the remainder of our trip. Dr. Abbink showed me what he had done and gave us some good information to share with our regular orthodontist when we returned to Texas. The whole process lasted less than 5 minutes. To my extreme surprise, there were no superfluous forms and they didn't even charge me! I offered to pay but they wouldn't accept it. The staff at Ventura Orthodontic Group is exceptionally helpful and accommodating. Dr. Abbink was polite, professional, and efficient. The sweetest group of people! I live in Houston and am Oxnard visiting my sister-in-law and her family! We had an early morning flight and had to be at the airport before 5 a.m. It wasn't until we landed at LAX that I realized I forgot my pack of rubber bands for my 6 day trip!!!! My orthodontist was going to kill me! So we got online to find a local orthodontist and found this orthodontic group close to our hotel. While I am certain it was a very odd request, we asked to purchase a bag of rubber bands from them! They were so helpful in figuring out which specific bands I needed and told us to come on by whenever! We went immediately there and the ladies at the front desk immediately knew who I was and had 2 bags of rubber bands waiting! When I pulled out my wallet they told me not to worry about it and enjoy my trip! How amazing are they! They seriously saved my vacation! I am looking at only another month in braces, who knows if it would have been longer if I wasn't able to wear bands this week! I wish I lived here and could have had the opportunity to be a patient at this office! If they are this amazing to a stranger, surely they are even more amazing for their patients! It has been about 6 months since I made the decision to put my lifelong dream of a beautiful smile in the capable hands of Dr. Abbink and his staff at Ventura Orthodontics. I am already so surprised and excited about the amazing progress I have already seen in just this short time. I did a lot of research before I chose Ventura Orthodontics! I read a lot of reviews, talked to a lot of friends, clients and people I knew in the dental world. Dr. Berkenmier, my dentist of 25 years and his staff, highly recommended Dr. Abbink as well! After I felt like my research was complete I made appointments with the offices I felt were my best choices and visited each one. I paid close attention to doctors, their staff and the general layout of office, equipment and the office atmosphere as well. At the end of the day I looked back at each one and my choice was very clear! I chose Ventura Orthodonic. The first reason was Dr. Abbink. He explained in detail what exactly were the issues with my teeth, what could be done and exactly how the work would be done. I found him to be extremely knowledgeable, professional, genuine at heart and kind. Dr. Abbink was so easy to talk to and as other reviews have stated, a very kind and compassionate man. Next, one of the things I learned from my research is that not only is your doctor important, so is his staff. You will working directly with them too. Like Dr. Abbink, his staff is also very knowledgeable, professional and genuinely caring and kind at heart. Many of them have worked for him for a very long time. Each one makes you feel like you are part of the Ventura Orthodonic family not just another client. They always keep me informed of what they are doing and what I can expect following each adjustment. The final part of the picture was the office itself. From the front office, to the state of the art equipment and to the clean, bright and open room where "all the magic happens" I just feel at home. I look forward to every appointment. UNBELIEVABLE.....a honest and thorough doctor who refused to take any money from me. Yes, you heard that correctly! Dr. Abbink sat down and asked me about my TMJ issue in depth. He wanted to know when I got it, what I had done in the past, what has worked, what hasn't worked, etc...and then he did a thorough exam. After the exam, we sat back down and he pulled up a lot of information and images on his computer and spent about 15 minutes educating me about TMJ, the jaw, and the muscles associated with the jaw. He suggested with my permission that he speak with the dentist who treated me in the past to gather more information and then would get back to me. Wait I forgot to tell you, this was all on his lunch break after squeezing me in the same day because of my work schedule and discomfort. I proceeded to the front desk to pay, and was told there was no charge. THEN....He called me back later that day (after talking with my prior dentist), and suggested I go back to the prior dentist and give him the opportunity to help me since he already knows about my situation. Needless to say, I was VERY impressed with this doctor and would DEFINITELY refer him to anybody who needs orthodontic work. You will get a caring, thorough, honest, knowledgeable dentist. P.S. Prior to meeting Dr. Abbink, I had two prior consultations regarding my TMJ issue. Both of the other dentist/orthodontist suggested I get Invisilgn (the cost would be between $4500 and $5500). read more

Dr. Abbink and his staff are warm, professional and helpful. We came in thinking we would be relocating internationally midway through one set of braces and they were most informative, helpful and communicative. We ended up staying in the country for the duration of two sets of braces for both our kids. We couldn't be more satisfied and know that we made an excellent choice. Midway through the second set of braces, Dr. Abbink noticed a sinus cavity cyst on the x-ray of my son and helped us get an urgent visit to the ENT which we are still monitoring a year later. My daughter and I were in Ventura on an overnight trip when one of her wires broke. I tried clipping it but it was still sticking out. On the advice of our orthodontist at home we called a local orthodontist in Ventura for help. The receptionist was wonderful and welcoming on the phone and got us in right away. When we got there the doctor took us in in less than 5 minutes, fixed the wire and even gave my daughter a sticker! And, to top it off, they would not let us pay for the visit! We have just moved to the area and my daughter had a problem with a wire on her permanent retainer. It was cutting her tongue. We called because of other good reviews with visitors and they got us right in. The tech fixed the wire and there have been problems since. The women at the reception desk were as kind and helpful as could be. We will be contacting them again soon for some additional orthodontia my kid might need. read more

Really don't like this place. All the ladies in there constantly slip and cut my gums and scrape my teeth. I really wish I could go to another orthodontist but unfortunately it's too late because i'm almost finished with my braces. The one star I put is for the lady at the front desk, she's so sweet but other than that this place is no good. Dr. Abbink is very warm, knowledgeable and professional. He put me at ease and answered all of my questions regarding treatment for my daughters. He also put up with all of their questions as they were very excited to get braces. Within a week of moving to Ventura County, the wire I had bonded to the back of my two front teeth came off while flossing. I went over the weekend and was amazed at how much my front two teeth moved! Having been out of braces for 15 years, I called my orthodontist back home (in Colorado) only to find that he had since retired. A friend told me about Dr. Abbink and I'm so glad he did! His warm and friendly staff got me in that day for a consult where Dr. Abbink and I discussed some treatment options (especially that I didn't want to be in braces for another two years...). We set up a game plan that was easy to understand and accessible and even what course we'd take if the original plan didn't work. Again his awesome staff got me in two days later for treatment, which took less than an hour and my front two teeth look awesome! Now, I'm pretty sure I'm an unconventional case but I would recommend Dr. Abbink to anyone looking for an orthodontist and I mean anyone! The patients seemed to come from a wide age range and everyone seemed very receptive to Dr. Abbink. Dr. Abbink and his staff are totally awesome! I just got my braces off and I am extremely happy with both the results and my overall experience. Dr. Abbink and his staff are very sweet, extremely caring and helpful and will work with you on whatever you ask. Dr. Abbink is very precise and thorough with each visit to make sure the teeth are moving in the right direction. He estimated that I would need to wear my braces (lower only) for 20 months, but I got them off after just 9 months! If you are considering local orthodontists - look no further. I especially like that they use text messaging (confirm Yes or No) for appointment reminders -- instead of those pesky voicemail messages - which takes just seconds to reply. Dr. Abbink and his staff are the total package, and as an adult wearing braces for the second time, this was very important to me.
