Dr. Smith and the Anacapa Orthodontics team are amazing and I highly recommend them for your orthodontic treatment. I started my treatment plan in January 2023 at age 35. Originally it was projected that it would take approximately 3 years from start to finally getting my braces off. It was a little bit longer of a time frame because I also needed Orthognathic (Jaw) surgery, for a severe underbite. I was in braces for a year and ten months before finally having the surgery. I have Kaiser Insurance and had my surgery done at Kaiser Sunset, in LA, in October 2024. Dr. Smith and the Anacapa team coordinated with my surgeon, Dr. Tehrany, throughout the whole process. The whole surgery process was seamless and the surgery went great and I recovered rather quickly. After recovering from the surgery I was in braces for another 6 months. Yesterday I finally got my braces taken off, a whole 6 months faster than what was originally expected. I couldn't be more happy with the results. From my first consultation I knew I made the right choice in choosing Anacapa Orthodontics. Walking in the door you are greeted with kindness and hospitality by the team in front checking you in. Anytime I called to get an appointment for a broken bracket or a wire poking me, they were able to get me in right away. The team in the back continues with the same kindness and hospitality, that is rare to find these days. During my 2 1/2 year treatment process there was never one appointment where I felt rushed or like they were just trying to hurry up and get me out of there. Every time I was there I felt like I was getting VIP treatment, but that's the way the whole Anacapa team operates. They took the time to find out how things were going not only in my treatment but how things were going in my personal life. This VIP treatment made it feel like they were on the journey with me versus I'm just a patient. Was a patient for years with my kids with previous orthodontist. When Anacapa took over.. not the same. 1) got rid of most all staff or they left, now inexperienced staff or interns not sure what they are doing. All staff before had been there 10-20 years. 2) they found that I owed $20 from years ago and sent me a bill .. had to spend time deciphering how to even read it. Waste of time and unprofessional considering I've spent $15k plus ... 3) If your retainer breaks... can't just buy ONE. I mean you can, but it is soooo overpriced you feel that the better deal is to spend more to get additional back up retainers. Example; before paid $150? Now $300 for one or $350 for two of each. (Estimate) 4) whitening overpriced. I have paid $350 elsewhere and it's like $650 here. 5) basically came in for 1 retainer replacement and whitening and it was $950 for all as the best "deal". I knew it was a rip off but it was easier to get it since already in chair. They all celebrate when someone buys it (meets quota, gets a bonus)? 6) stick with a referral from your dentist or a friend. This place is like a newbie with the latest "packages" to make more money + inexperienced staff which make the experience less than ideal. 7) one star instead of zero because doctor is nice + one remaining staff still there out of the 8 that were still there when he took over. read more

My dentist, Dr. Satnick, referred me to Dr. Smith. I was in my mid-50s in need of a complicated, multi-phase total dental and orthodontic restoration. Dr. Smith was incredibly receptive to taking my case and his desire to provide me a structurally sound and aesthetically pleasing result was readily apparent. His incredible talent, top education, and motivation yielded me a far better result in all ways possible than I think he, nor Dr. Satnick, or myself even thought possible. Dr. Smith was determined to help me out of a really bad situation. He truly cared and hung in there with me, even through the pandemic. It is amazing to now have the confidence in knowing that my orthodontic "bite" and teeth are all structurally sound (and look fantastic!). I honestly do not know where I would be right now had Dr. Satnick not referred me to Dr. Smith. I was so impressed with Dr. Smith that I referred my (adult) son to him for what I call an orthodontic "refresh" (my son did not wear his retainer after he got his braces off as a youth). My son was only interested in going as far as aligners, he did not want to go back to braces. Even though his treatment plan is not yet completed, his smile already looks fantastic... so much so I think his teeth look better now than they did when he finished his orthodontia as a youth! I hope to get my other son in to see Dr. Smith for a similar "refresh". I also want to mention what a nice office Dr. Smith has... a very calming environment, super nice front and back office staff, and his technician assistants in the treatment area are top-notch. All four of my kids have been to Dr. Hannah/Ken Smith. My youngest daughter was worried about getting a new ortho 1/2 way thru her treatment program. My initial (consultation) visit was very informative. We reviewed all the options and he explained everything very well. I signed up for 'old fashioned' metal braces. I have no regrets! My teeth slowly corrected and are now aligned and straight. Beware! Dr. Hannah kept my child in braces for seven years, for what was a simple tongue-thrust issue, insisting they had a deformity of e jaw which required surgery to correct. Dr. Hannah would not remove braces until we hade $100,000.00 4 hour painful surgery. Unable to afford it, my child tearfully begged to have him remove the braces in time for prom. Not until four years later when my child (now at a university up north) sought out a different orthodontist for a retainer. It was then that the new orthodontist told him the "deformity" Hannah was referring to was caused by Dr. Hannah's malpractice and blatant mistakes. Dr. Hannah told my child's smile away for over 10 years! He refuses to help contribute to the medically necessary surgery despite that experts have revealed it is his fault; luckily they are willing and anxious to testify against him in court.
