Decent install, poor design and follow up We hired VACCO to upgrade the air circulation system in my wife's hair salon, the basic design premise is OK, but VACCO did not think ahead about materials that may be corroded by the ocean air. The supply fan lasted for only a year before it froze up, an in line filter element should have been installed or a stainless steel supply fan should have been used for this install? they should be the experts and it should have been done right the first time for $4K. We've tried numerous times to get them to replace the fan and get the system running again, but no answer back. read more

We used this company twice in the last year when our AC quit. It turned out we were losing refrigerant due to a leak in the system which VACCO was not able to locate. Their recommendation was to relocate the refrigerant lines up the side of the house because we'd had them buried when we put in our patio (not a great idea in hindsight). A manager came out and gave us a verbal estimate of $2500-3000 to run the new lines. When he emailed the estimate, it was $4000 - a 33% increase over what he had told us! The second AC company we called was able to locate the leaks by running other tests and it turned out there were leaks in both the coil and the compressor as well as the line, so relocating the line (which we did later ) would not have solved the problem. read more

We called Vacco this morning hoping to set up a quote consultation in regards to a new heating and air system. Our neighbor used them and gave us glowing reviews. Upon calling, the woman who answered was condescending and rude. She offered no help nor solutions. She would not listen to my needs and quickly ended the call by telling me Vacco is not taking ANY new jobs. The entire exchange was disconcerting and the epitome of poor customer service. I can not recommend this company based on a truly awful two minute phone call. read more

I usually wouldn't take the time or energy for this, but I have my own employees out in the field driving company vehicles, and I consider the way they act on the road as representative of our company and ultimately that I, as President/CEO, am responsible for their actions. I just witnessed a guy with Grey hair and beard in a white Vacco branded truck, at 10:15 am 3/24/21 driving like a lunatic on Main St. Ventura. I watched him weave in out of traffic off the freeway at excessive speed, cutting three vehicles off and then honking horn and tailgating two more. All of this within a mile of Vacco office in Ventura. I don't know what kind of Air Conditioning emergency might have been happening, but given he was going to office, may have been late for a morning meeting. Owner to owner of this company, I would find this employee and take away his keys instead of letting him represent your company as a moronic driver or endangering others on the road in your branded fleet vehicle. read more

We contracted with VACCO to replace our two condensers, coils, re-duct, add a return, add an attic fan and replace all the registers. We had an excellent experience. Ben did an excellent job delivering on the contract. He was both responsive and responsible. Nate, the lead installer, and the Forman on the job excelled in customer service, meticulous attention to detail and performing above and beyond all expectations. They did an excellent job and maintained a clean environment through out the 3 days that the job took to complete. The installation team comprised of Robert, George, Johnny, Isaac, and Paul, all contributed to the excellent performance on the job. These days it is very difficult to find a company like VACCO that is honest, reliable, responsive, respectful, responsible, and cares to excel to perform the very best job to make their customers happy and to ensure that they keep their customers for the long term. 5.0 star rating 2/22/2017 First to Review Called them on Monday to get service on our natural gas wall heater. Tech Brandon arrived, on time, Tuesday afternoon. He found thermostat was in good order but a "reset" button had tripped, I wasn't aware there was such a thing on this heater, he instructed me how to reset it if it trips in the future. We were never happy with the standard thermostat and asked if he had and would install a programmable unit, he did and installed it on the spot. Finally he cleaned up the interior of the unit and has it back in good operating condition! Couldn't have asked for a better service call, and the cost was very reasonable! read more

My experience with VACCO was wonderful from beginning to end! I called VACCO to inquire about installing a new heater and air conditioner in my home. I was contacted shortly after by Jaime Sandoval who set up and appointment to come and talk to me. Jaime was on time for the appointment (promptness is very important to me) and he spent an adequate amount of time discussing my needs. He surveyed the house and gave me several options of what the company could do to accommodate my needs. He was professional, explained every detail to me of what the installation would be like, he answered all of my questions without hesitation. There was no hard sell, he simply gave me his assessment. Within a day or two I received a proposal from VACCO. We accepted their bid and the work began the following week. Jaime arrived on the job site with his installers and introduced them to us. These two men were amazing! They too were very professional, courteous, answered all my questions, and explained to me what they were going to be doing each step of the way as the installation progressed. Each morning the installers laid a tarp down on my carpet where they would be walking and working. At the end of the day they cleaned up after themselves and left my house spotless. They vacuumed their work area, removed all tools and stored their equipment and supplies outside on my patio. You would never know that there had been workmen in my house that day! Jaime continued to call, text or stop by to inquire about how things were going. I never had a single complain about the installers. They worked diligently, were focused, they did not waste time and were extremely courteous at all times. After the installation was complete Jaime Sandoval contacted me to see if everything was okay and if I was happy. And of course I was! I was on a cruise, in the middle of the Pacific and my tenant notified me that the furnace in my 40 year old house was dead. On top of that, it was just before Xmas. I called VACCO, explained the problem and offered my son's contact info for backup credit card. Furnace was installed and I paid for it on my return. I had central air installed last fall and they did a beautiful job, including asbestos removal and disposal. Dependable, efficient. I'll never have anyone else for heating/air con issues. read more

I'm pretty steamed - they installed duct work in November of 2016, apparently pulled a permit and did not advice me or send me the required carand/d or other paper work. I am now getting notice from the City 8 months after the fact stating the permit expired and needs an inspection. I have painted the ceiling and the trap door where paint was totally ruined during the installation, and I may need to do this again once an inspector, who couldn't care less, goes up in the attic. And what if Vacco did not do everything perfectly? I don't need this hassle months after the fact. They are required to send permit info to the homeowner so be aware of their negligence! read more

BEWARE! During our home inspection, the AC was found to be nonfunctional. The sellers decided to use Vacco to fix the problem. Less than three months after we moved in, the AC went out, just as it was during the inspection. We had multiple contractors come out and they all told us the same thing, there was a leak in the unit that seemed to have been there long-term. We attempted to call Vacco to request all the documents they gave the sellers and their realtor, however Liz refused. She said the sellers were her customer (and even knew their realtor on a first name basis) and refused to give us any more documents. Liz then proceeded to call the seller's realtor and warn them of our request for more information. The manager, Mark, attempted to diffuse the issue by offering us their service to fix the unit at a fair price. He also said that their technician may or may not have missed the original leak. Long story short, Vacco is choosing to cover up and protect the seller and their realtor, since they know them personally. They either have poor technicians or are liars..or maybe both. DO NOT trust any work they do, or claim to do, especially during escrow. read more

I recently had my AC Unit reinstalled after my backyard pavers were completed, but there was a huge time gap between the two. The disconnection happened about two months ago and it took a bit to get my backyard pavers project going/completed. However, VACCO was incredibly quick with getting my AC unit reinstalled even with the long delay between the two. Both teams (led by Jamie and Kimo) were incredibly professional. I had no issues with them whatsoever. They answered all questions, were quick to respond and coordinate meet/work times, and were open, honest, and respectful with all interactions, questions, and information. I had a change order since moving my AC unit would have put my home/unit out of City regulations, and that interaction was open and respectful from the get go. They didn't just give me what I want, knowing that it would be wrong, but were honest and looking to the best interest of the customer. This is another complaint regarding trusting a business to come out and look for the source of the problem and then resolving it to the best of their ability. Ben, the owner or manager tried to brow beat me into making me feel like it was me who was to blame. Sorry Ben but that won't work, they should have researched the problem on the first or at least the second visit to totally resolve the matter instead of four (4) visits, $997 for 2 filters, 2 fuses, washing the coils and replacing 4 wires. and still not working properly. Had another company come out and they found that the Freon was low. They put in the Freon and the matter is solved for under $100. When I called and tried to resolve this matter calmly and professionally, all you cared about was the outstanding balance. Don't worry Ben we won't be doing business with you again. read more

In this record heat, I, like many are using their air conditioners more than ever. As I hardly use mine, it was an inconvenient time to find out it wasn't working properly. Being that an air conditioner tech can tell you just about anything and you wouldn't know the difference, finding a trustworthy company and tech is important. I called Vacco and had a tech at my home the following day who gave me a diagnosis. Within a few days (as I said, we are scorching right now so I understand how busy they are), Danny came back and fixed the problem and explained everything so I knew exactly what my issue was and what I can do in the future. He gave me options and explained pricing in detail. The final bill came in under the estimate and I was credited as such. Danny was polite, clean, professional and helpful. Good job! read more

Outstanding in every way!! We replaced our entire heating and air conditioning system and had several companies come out to bid on the job. We went with Vacco mainly because of the fast response and excellent customer service of Jaime Sandoval, the manager who came out personally to inspect the job. From the first bid through the final installation, Jaime was always available by phone and if I ever had to leave a voicemail he always returned my call within the hour. Just outstanding! His crew did a terrific job with the install and everything was working great until we had a power outage which blew a circuit on the board and stopped the heater from working after the power came back on -- and here is where Vacco really shined. I called Jaime after the power outage and again he answered the phone on my first call and was able to set up a repair appointment within a day. He personally came to check the system, replaced the faulty board and waived the service fee because it was such a quick job. I was not expecting this and told him how grateful I was and that he would have a customer for life. It's rare these days to work with any type of contractor who actually cares about his customers and I highly, highly recommend Jaime Sandoval and Vacco Heating and Air. For 20 years we have used VACCO to service our air and heating units. in all those years we were extremely happy regarding the performance and attitude of the service techs. Recently it became necessary to relpace both units. VACCO beat the competitors in price and were a pleasure doing business with. Our furnace was located in the attic and the house built around it . Therefore not an easy job. However, the installers did an amazing job taking out the old unit an installing the new one within a limited work space. I cannot speak of the quality of work that VACCO performs, because I never got that far. I called the company and set up an appointment for three days later to get a quote on a new furnace and air conditioning unit in our home. On the day of the appointment, the representative (Mark) never showed up and never called. Once I reached out to the company, they explained the representative had something come up and forgot to call me to cancel our appointment which I had made arrangements for to be home. The gal at the office that I spoke to was very nice and said she would forward my message and Mark give me a call that day to reschedule the appointment. I never got a phone call or follow up from the company so I just assume they didn't need my business.I ended up calling one of their competitors and spent close to $19,000. I really wanted to give this company a try based upon the reviews. Truly unfortunate. read more

I called Vacco to troubleshoot a thermostat issue. The tech said it needed to be replaced. I said fine. When he was finished, the new thermostat was slightly crooked and not flush with the wall. Turns out the tech did not remove the old wall anchors from the previous unit which were protruding from the wall. It would've taken him 30 extra seconds to do it right but he did not. I had to remove the new unit, remove the old anchors, drill new holes, and reinstall the thermostat myself. Not sure why I paid a professional to do it. read more

They installed a system for me. There were a number of problems--one of the air conditioning units didn't work, there was a missing part and it took a week of hot weather before it was fixed. Wasn't their fault, except they should have tested it and caught it. There were several other problems--with the balance of air and the heat. Getting them to come out after their bill was paid was very tedious. In the end I paid someone else to fix the problems they didn't. read more

Make sure you have a very clean area from which Vacco employees can service your heat or air conditioner. We had a technician come out and unbeknown to me, we had a rat problem in our attic, so naturally the tech would not find out why our air con unit in the attic did not work. He said to have the area cleaned up and he would come back to fix air con. We had a professional pest control company come out and clean up the whole attic area. When Vacco tech came back out, he said he didn't like the smell so he refused to find out what was wrong with the unit. As it turns out, another company found out that the problem was with a thermostat wire that was located on the outside of the house and that is why the air con did not work. Vacco techs might want to make sure they look for outside wiring in a sleeve as a source of the problem before refusing to do the job. read more

One month into the installation, and the system is working OK so far. The big downside is, I just found out that VACCO is NOT A LICENSED CONTRACTOR with Edison. Be forewarned, that this HVAC contractor is not "an approved ENERGY STAR® A/C Quality installer," so you will not be eligible for any of Edison's rebates or credits. VACCO has been servicing my business for years! They have ALWAYS sent out top notch technicians and installers. I have never done business with a more ethical company. They've gone above and beyond on multiple occasions to make sure me and my staff are comfortable year round. Recently I used VACCO to install air conditioning at my home in Ventura. Ben was on time and gave me all of my options. We then worked together to figure out what would be the best system for our needs. Ben explained that some brands are known to perform better than others. Instead of just offering one brand like most of the companies I got quotes from, VACCO offers them all! Ben said he doesn't believe in pressuring people in their homes with used car salesman tactics, so he emailed me my proposal right away, along with attachments about the equipment. This allowed me and my wife to review the proposal on our own time, something the other companies did not do! The price was close to HALF the other quotes I received. On the day of installation, Nathan and Tom were amazing. The whole job came out perfect. Best home improvement I've ever invested in. I've never had folks that were as clean cut, efficient, intelligent and friendly as the guys I've had experience working with at VACCO. I see the negative reviews that Michael S. wrote and it makes me sad. There's a guy that doesn't even live in the Ventura/Santa Barbara area (where VACCO is a household name) yet he decided to take the time to try and discredit an honest, hard working company. I looked at the rest of his reviews and they're all 1 star complaints, usually about money. Michael S, if you can't afford to have a service performed, maybe it's time to look in the mirror and figure out what's wrong with YOU instead of complaining on YELP. As a business owner, I know all too well about people threatening negative reviews to get discounts. Unfortunately these days people can use the Internet to try and hurt others. During the last heat wave our AC went on the blink. Since we have been a steady customer the office dispatched the next work day and the service tech provided an accurate diagnosis. Here is where the story goes South. The part needed to be sourced and after several days of 100 degree temperatures and numerous follow-up calls we still hadn't got any updates. We had also asked for a pricing of upgrading to the unit eventho' it was a new construction Vacco installed system only 8 years ago since the repair cost was estimated at $1k plus with only a 60 day warranty. In short it took 10 days to receive our estimates and it had a high price WOW factor. We hired another contractor got it done in 3 days and the total price was 1/2 the cost of the lowest estimate provide by Mark with non-OEM parts. While we have done business for years the changes in the residential side...in particular the exit of Ben and the addition of Mark is obviously one that has sent us elsewhere and You should likely be doing the same. read more
