This salon is fabulous!! Venora's is a beautiful, old-time Glastonbury house turned into a gorgeous, full service salon. They were offering a promotion through my job, and I decided to go in for a very much needed hair cut. My stylist, Michelle, was the best. She met me at the door with a huge smile, and offered to take my coat, and see if I wanted any coffee or water. The salon itself is bright and modern, with shiny hardwood floors and lots of decorative greenery. While the salon seems to have limited space, the staff appears to work alongside each other with no problems at all. My appointment was at 12:30, and a little after 1:00, Michelle was on my finishing touches. She did exactly what I had asked for, while still taking some creative liberties. We chatted as she worked, and it turned out, she had done a haircut for one of my best girlfriends recently. My girlfriend had told me, and i quote, "...the BEST haircut I have ever gotten." After my appointment, the girls gave me a little gift bag with some free samples, coupons, and referral cards. I TOTALLY give my stamp of approval to this salon, it is so wonderful. They offer many services, and it is in the perfect place to have a wonderful pampering afternoon!! read more

I'm surprised this salon hasn't been reviewed yet. They seem to have been around for a while, and were pretty busy when I went. When I moved to town, I got an offer for a free haircut. I was a little nervous that there were no reviews to be found. But, hey, free haircut (don't worry, I still tipped). I was pleasantly surprised. They got me in and out pretty quickly without feeling at all rushed, which was nice because I went it during my break. The atmosphere is cozy. They had tea, coffee, cookies and granola bars in the waiting area. The haircut was decent. I felt like my stylist could have listened a little bit more to what I wanted, but overall the cut was decent and has worked well for me. I don't get my hair colored, so I can't comment on that, but there were several people that seemed like regulars getting their hair colored while I was there. So, it can't be that bad. read more

I would recommend this place to anyone which I already have. I would recommend Jadey as your hair stylist. It's a very friendly environment there every time I go there. The other stylist make nice comments to build your confidence. My mom is a hairdresser and I choose to go to Jadey because she is awesome at what she does and is up to date with current trends and styles. I have shown her pictures from Pinterest that I had for ideas for my hair and they come out better than the pictures. She is encouraging for me to try new things because I am a plain Jane. read more

I stopped going here because over time I was made to feel less and less like they wanted my business. The last straw came when my cut/color lasted well over 2 hours, while the stylist is MIA for a lot of it. By the end of the appt I was so obviously annoyed that the stylist finally picked up on it and had a colleague co-blow dry my hair. Needless to say, I never went back. They had to scramble to get someone to wash and cut my hair after waiting for 25 minutes after my appointment time (appointments are made for a reason!) , and the hairdresser totally misunderstood what I said I wanted done to my hair and I currently have an afro. Lauren listened to what I asked for and was very communicative during my cut and color. I ended up with exactly what I had envisioned (a rather complicated balayage, taking my warm toned hair to dark and ashy). I was greeted very warmly by the receptionist and the husband-owner of the salon when I arrived, and I didn't have to wait past my appointment time even though it was late in the day. I also was happy to see the wife-owner walking around giving junior stylists assistance with cut and color while I was there. The salon was extremely busy when I was there and the stylists were all joking around with each other and their clients, so it was an enjoyable evening. It was a little annoying that they don't take cards, but the price was very reasonable considering I spent 2.5 hours in her chair. read more

Appointment started 15 min late. Nobody inside is wearing a mask. If you are looking for covid safe this is not the place. I asked for 1 inch off and long layers. Ended up with about two inches off and none of my layers were blended. On the right side a chunk of hair was cut and left a hole. The hair in front was an inch shorter then the back due to poor layering. She then went in with thinning scissors up by the top of my head. I had to get my hair recut the next day. My uncle says he could have given me the same haircut with a saw. Save your money. read more

I've been coming to Venoras Salon for years. The stylists are amazing and I never walk away disappointed. Brit colors my hair every six weeks and always does an amazing job. She is awesome!!! I have been going to this place for years. They did a great job. My stylist left along with some other stylists. The new stylists are terrible. I asked for a simple haircut with long layers. The stylist put no layers in my hair. I thought it was a one off experience but my daughter had her hair cut by a different new stylist who completely butchered her hair. Sorry, but won't be going back. Had a good haircut the first time I went a few months ago and I liked the stylist. I did not like the big sign in the waiting room announcing that they did not want anyone talking about vaccinations in the salon and people were not wearing masks or social distancing. I was squished next to 4 other people in the tiny waiting room. Only I had a mask on. Got a good haircut. For the second visit this week-pandemic slightly better (due to vaccinations) except for delta variant now filling hospitals- so you would think workers would have masks on just for the comfort of customers but none to be seen nor social distancing. I then had to wait 20 mins in the waiting room. I had my mask on. A mom and child came in with masks but when they saw all the front desk people without masks they took them off, ugh, and then sat down with me. Great! Lastly, the $50 haircut came out shorter than I asked, choppy and uneven!! I couldn't tell the extent of the damage till I got home. I Had to go elsewhere the next day to get my haircut fixed for another $30 as I did not want to go back into venoras. Bonus:This new salon I tried required masks for all! Gave my hair a great fix. Wish I knew about them first! Now my haircut is nice but much much shorter than I wanted because that's what it took to fix the unevenness. lesson learned :( read more

I have been coming to Venora's Salon for many years for haircuts, coloring, and highlights. When I first started coming here, the level of service was much better -- they employed many hairstylists, it was high energy, people were friendly. Over the years, however, service has diminished -- there has been high turnover, the place is often empty, and I've been feeling lately that they don't appreciate my business. The atmosphere feels very awkward, and I plan to find another salon -- soon! In the past year, they made mistakes with my haircolor (twice) and over applied highlights making my hair look very brassy. Another drawback is that the salon only accepts cash and checks -- no credit cards. read more

I was told about this salon from my sister in law. When I walked in it looked small but everything is so well put together. It's very comfy and EVERYONE is amazing. Super well kept and clean. I came for a short ombre and jen delivered. I absolutely LOVE my hair and my stylist. I Definetly recommend this salon for every reason out there. They meet you at the door and offer food and beverages complimentary. Such a sweet group of people. Everybody is so kind and funny. They keep conversations and they're vibes are just awesome. I called to reschedule my appointment and while changing mine, they also cancelled and did not recursive my moms appointment, and then could not take her for her original appointment that she never moved. This is where my mom and I get our hair cut on a regular basis. The staff is always very friendly and chatty. I have a usual stylist that always cuts my hair and we're good friends and always have things to talk about. My mom comes here more frequently then me because she gets her hair colored and it always looks great. The girls are always very attentive and listen to what you want and they make suggestions if you are unsure. Sometimes they curl my hair or add sparkles as a little extra. My hair instantly feels healthier and is very shinny. Also, there's a ton of food always out-bagels, chips, cookies, mints, pizza (at lunch), coffee's and lemon water. Upstairs there are their manicure, pedicure, massage and waxing services. I have gotten my nails done here at least three times and they always look so good and the girl working on my nails was able to do cool designs and add sparkles to my friend who came with me. I went to Venora's for a pedicure and was really disappointed with the quality of work. When I got home I noticed that my heals looked and felt the same as when I first entered the salon. The people there are super nice, so I thought I would go back and see if they could remedy the problem. They told me it was normal and it would take a couple of times of coming back to get my feet smooth. (I do admit my feet were in rough shape from wearing sandels, but I did expect to see some improvement). I was so upset, I just went home and did it myself. (Which is not what I had in mind when I made the decision to go to a salon) Sorry, but I won't be coming back for anything in the future. read more

Had makeup done here for a special event I was attending. Was disappointed in results: first the stylist cut the false eyelashes too short and then she placed them incorrectly so that my natural lashes were showing at the outer corner of my eye, yes just one eye! When i pointed this out, she tried to cover this mistake by adding mascara & saying it was ok - it wasn't. Second, she applied the foundation so far into my hair near my ears, that my hair looked beige around my face. I have short silver hair, so this REALLY stood out. When I mentioned this, she just said that when I got home, I should run my wet fingers thru those areas and the makeup would come out - she didn't offer to fix this and her suggestion, did NOT work. So I had to go to my event with makeup in my hair & misplaced eyelashes. Oh & BTW, they knew this was my 1st visit and I was told to just go upstairs & call out stylist name to find her - tacky I say. I have been a Venora's client for many years and I gotta say that the stylists are absolutely the best in the Greater Hartford area. The haircuts, manicures, pedicures, and facials I've had are always perfect and the warm, friendly atmosphere created by Lisa and Jon all result in a very pleasant salon experience every time. Recently, Caitlin, a licensed therapeutic masseuse joined the staff and is currently offering clients a complimentary 10-minute chair massage to introduce herself. Well, after my 10 minutes, I was convinced. I immediately booked an hour-long whole body massage for later that week; that was yesterday. Simply put, it was the most comprehensive and relaxing massage I have ever had - I nearly fell asleep. At the end of the hour, all of those little stress-induced neck and back aches, and the attendant headaches, that are a part of my daily life were gone. I couldn't remember the last time I felt so relaxed. Today, 24 hours post-massage, I am still feeling the benefits including the absence of my daily headache. I will definitely add a regular massage with Caitlin to my schedule going forward. read more
