Finally got a chance to try Velvet Taco. It did not disappoint. Had a Chicken Rotisserie Bowl; hubby had a Taco Combo (2 tacos, a side, and a fountain drink). Fun taco choices! He had one Fish & chips, and one Rotisserie chicken. His side choice was elote corn and chips. Everything was absolutely phenomenal! Big portions. Tons of moist chicken, rice, avocado crema, guacamole, pico in my bowl. Hubby said it was one of the best fish filets he'd had. Very tasty. Highly recommend Velvet Taco. The tacos were average at best. Nothing exciting that I'd want to come back. One feedback - please add some vegan gluten free options to the menu. Overall great food, some amazing non-traditional tacos. The only reason I didn't leave a 5-star review is because they are ridiculously slow. I've dined here four times now and it seems to get slower and slower. My last visit I waited 15 minutes for three tacos. This is supposed to be a quick service restaurant. This restaurant has plenty of options for tacos and bowls including veggie options. I went with a combo with one shrimp taco and one rotisserie chicken taco. Both of the tacos were packed full! The shrimp one had so much shrimp in it. For my side, I got the queso and it was tasty. Combo also comes with a soft drink. I feel like it was a decent amount of food. My husband and I also split a piece of their red velvet cake and OMG! So good! The cashier that took our order was super friendly. I noticed that she was that way with all of the guests. Good vibe. And musica for a tasteful flavor explosion at Velvet taco. I came for their soft opening, and really enjoyed the food and atmosphere. It's fast casual with food made to order. They pause the music and call out your name when order is ready. I personally had the brisket barbacoa bowl which was great. A filling meal, the meat was tender but had the right chew still. The dining room is comfortable and trendy. Since they were testing their service and being max full I'm sure it was a bit slower than what it'll be, but the food is definitely worth it. The staff was hard at work and was friendly. I'll definitely be back for another taco dinner next time. Gosh I always choose something other than what theyre known for. I should have gotten tacos instead as the flight of tacos that my friends shared seemed really spectacular! The plaza Velvet taco is in is relatively new Block 59. Was very difficult to find parking at 530pm on a Saturday. The margarita is good and strong. Sangria has a good wine taste and the right sweetness. Steak was very good my kids devoured it. Shrimp was good smoky flavor. Though the kids thought that the bowls were spicy. I think if the kids get bowls again, that they have pico de Gallo on the side. And queso instead of the crema sauces. I've been here several times (as well as a location in Dallas) and very much enjoy their food. A few quibbles. - The menu is big and each dish has lots of ingredients, so study up on what you'll order before you go or you will be standing there forever figuring it out. - The same dish hasn't always been consistent: one time I ordered the chimmichuri taco and it was spicy, another time it was blow your head off spicy. - It's pretty loud in here. Music is hard to talk over, and it's fast casual, so you order at the counter and then someone is blaring over the loudspeaker, "Johnny, it's taco time!" My favorite tacos have been the chicken and waffles and the quesaBirria (though those can be a bit greasy). The corn tortillas are a bit tough here; the flour ones are better. You can also get bowls, and on Mondays they sell a whole rotisserie chicken package. I love their queso Blanco as well as the thai- inspired queso. There are a few alcohol options (margaritas, sangritas, ranch water) plus fountain drinks. Overall, still wish we would get a Torchy's in the Midwest, but I'll take Velvet Taco for unique flavors and tasty combinations. read more

1st time ordering from VT via Uber Eats Delivery... 1st I don't know why it's so hard for workers to fulfill orders properly? I didn't get the extra corn tortilla I paid .65 extra for with my GF Rotisserie Chicken Bowl and I didn't get tater tots with my kids chicken Taco sub corn tortilla for flour that came with my kids meal. It's maddening to choose a restaurant pick out what items you want then something else arrives. My kids chicken taco made with 2 chicken tenders was small but flavorful as well as a bit of spice from Queso Blanco. I was looking so forward to VT tater tots :-( My gluten free bowl was very good black beans have a "kick" guacamole was great buttered rice was extremely delicious you get a Huge portion enough for another meal. I used part of my kids meal corn tortilla to make my own Gluten Free taco. If I go back? Big fan!!! I was so excited to try this place. We had never been before. I was even more thrilled to see there was a vegetarian menu and my favorite taco was the fried paneer cheese taco. I definitely could not handle the heat on the Nashville hot tofu, but it was still flavorful. The beer battered cauliflower was really good as well! I appreciated it being able to download the app and order right there helped me skip the line and got me a free queso. The Elote was bomb and had a lot of flavor! was originally very excited to try velvet taco when i heard they were coming out to naperville. i work in food service and have for over 10 years, so I know the kind of work that goes into it. I also dont normally write reviews. i ordered the combo that came with two tacos (the quesabirria and the smash burger) and a side (elote) with a beverage. For starters I received no beverage so that was a bit disappointing. I wasnt going to complain about that, it was just sad. I was the most excited about the quesabirria ones as i love those so much. My first bite literally had a piece of sticker paper???? in it? i had to fully pull it out of my mouth. that was when i decided to write a review. the taco was also super bland on top of that. Which is something i wasn't going to complain about either but the sticker inside my taco was ridiculous in my opinion. I also ordered this as take out. I had to eat the elote with the chips because i wasnt given a fork or any napkins. the elote was pretty mid. The only saving grace was the spicy tikka chicken taco i ordered extra. Very good spice, the rice was cooked well, an overall 8/10 taco. I was just so nervous about biting into another foreign object that I couldnt finish it. overall, I wish we went anywhere else instead of spending $27 on food that was mediocre and contaminated, and an incomplete order. super disappointing. read more

Tried Velvet Taco in Naperville after hearing a lot of great things, but honestly...I'm on the fence. I know tacos can go in a lot of directions, but here it feels like there are way too many variations for something that should be simple. The options are cool and definitely cater to all sorts of taste buds, but flavor-wise it just didn't hit for me. I ordered to-go and had the taco chicken bowl, the shrimp taco, and the chicken masala taco which really just felt like chicken tenders with sauce. Overall, the food was okay at best. What really turned me off happened while waiting for my order. The person checking and preparing the to-go bags had gloves on good but then wiped down a table using a washcloth from a dirty bucket with the same gloves on. After that, they went right back to closing up my food and handed me the bag with those same gloves. I get that things happen in busy places, but actually seeing it... yeah, it gave me that "yuk" feeling. This trendy new taco spot just opened up in a very bustling plaza at the Aurora end of Naperville. The vibe and decor is neat inside this restaurant. Step up and order at the counter and then your order is called out when it is ready. The menu board is divided up by protein type. All the bowls are in one list and then the tacos divided up by protein type. They do have a pretty extensive list of tacos to choose from and some unique ones too. There is a Weekly Taco Feature (WTF). We ordered some bowls and tacos to try as well as some of the bottled drinks and sangria and margarita. The drinks were good, especially likes the sangria. The tacos had a wide range. Some of the corn tortilla shell didn't seem as heated as I would have liked. The Chimichuri steak was in cubes, I thought it could be better sliced for the sauce to really soak in. Not overly tasting of the Chimichuri. Also the pico here is a bit on the spicy side, so if you don't like heat at all be sure to take note. The birria tacos come in a pair and looked pretty good. Overall I would say the tacos were decent, nothing overly outstanding or fabulous. The service was pretty attentive too. A 3.5 star rating bumped up to 4. read more

The outdoor patio is ample - a welcoming on a pleasant day. Indoor atmosphere is exciting and bright and happy. The drink selection is extremely varied. I love a Coke in a glass bottle! The tacos have tremendous flavor and texture. Each bowl is a piece of art. Save room for the Red Velvet cake. The food is absolutely disgusting. The steak tacos were so dry I mean horrible. Almost $7 for this gross super dry inedible taco. The real killer was when I went in the restroom to take a leak, I heard a lot of grunting and groaning in the stall. One of the workers was having a moment and going through it. Well he flushed , came out , proceeded to the sink, no soap , just used water for 5 seconds opened the door and went back to work. Absolutely NOT! EVER IN LIFE will I be back. I guess I don't get it. When I want tacos, I look to traditional Latin flavors. Curry, Tikka, Buffalo, smash burger, and Korean fried rice, aren't it for me. I tried the combo meal with the rotisserie chicken and a Chimichurri Steak. The steak taco was good, the chicken was just okay. A little mushy for me. I wanted a side of their elote, but they were out. So I had a side of fried rice, which yes, leaned more chinese than mexican, again, not traditional flavor. I did not see a mexican rice option. I'd be okay if they had the other flavors in addition to the non-traditional, but rotisserie chicken and the chimichurri steak was as close as it got. I think there was a birria pork option too. The utensils were a spork about 3 inches long. I grabbed one thinking it kinda looked cool, not realizing that I had to use it to eat my rice. Ordered two margaritas one of which was frozen and they said it would be 5-10 minutes and they'd bring it out. We got our food, but never the frozen margarita. To be honest, we were talking and forgot about it until we were done with our food and by that time, didn't feel like sitting there drinking it while the other waited. Did get a refund though. The ambiance is kind of an upscale Chipotle, but not that much upscale. If you're looking for some non traditional options in taco form, maybe Velvet Taco is for you. Service needs to be improved. 5 people. Check was over $100. My order was wrong and when I went back up to the counter to advise them it was made incorrectly, there was no apology, and I was made to feel like it was a huge imposition to remake what I ordered. So while my family ate their food I waited. And they remade it ...and it was still wrong. Again no apology. And it was ....meh. Better tacos elsewhere. However, the guacamole was good and fresh. Can you imagine if I paid the tip the payment kiosk asked for when we ordered? I would have been furious...instead I was just extremely disappointed an will probably not go back. What could have happened ...was when the crew chief that handled my complaint and waited on me...a profuse apology ....and maybe deliver a hot correct order to my table. That did not happen. When my remade tacos came out....they were still wrong. So I had to pick the unwanted ingredients off the taco.
