Being open until 3:57 AM made it a go to after a night out, so I was excited to hear they were finally expanding into the suburbs! The new location is in the block 59 restaurant area, and they bring the same fun, creative taco concept. They have specialty tacos, inspired by different cuisines, so there's usually something for everyone. Each taco has its own unique flavor profile and twist. I tried the spicy tikka chicken, which is basically Indian food in a taco. Honestly, such a fun concept! It tastes very similar to the original dish. They also offer alcoholic beverages, although the drink selection varies by location. You can usually find margaritas in a few other options. One thing I noticed this time is that they are now offering bowls! I haven't tried one yet, but I'll definitely be back to give it a shot. Text just to find my food order and no response. Called Grub hub to be told they can't help. Called Velvet taco 3 times, the 3rd call someone answered. I asked if they could make another lunch and someone to deliver to me. They said they don't and if I wanted a refund to go through the app. No where in the app does it let you get a refund. Finally got a chance to try Velvet Taco. It did not disappoint. Had a Chicken Rotisserie Bowl; hubby had a Taco Combo (2 tacos, a side, and a fountain drink). Fun taco choices! He had one Fish & chips, and one Rotisserie chicken. His side choice was elote corn and chips. Everything was absolutely phenomenal! Big portions. The shrimp one had so much shrimp in it. For my side, I got the queso and it was tasty. Combo also comes with a soft drink. I feel like it was a decent amount of food. A few quibbles. - The menu is big and each dish has lots of ingredients, so study up on what you'll order before you go or you will be standing there forever figuring it out. - The same dish hasn't always been consistent: one time I ordered the chimmichuri taco and it was spicy, another time it was blow your head off spicy. - It's pretty loud in here. Music is hard to talk over, and it's fast casual, so you order at the counter and then someone is blaring over the loudspeaker, "Johnny, it's taco time!" My favorite tacos have been the chicken and waffles and the quesaBirria (though those can be a bit greasy). The corn tortillas are a bit tough here; the flour ones are better. You can also get bowls, and on Mondays they sell a whole rotisserie chicken package. I love their queso Blanco as well as the thai- inspired queso. We did not like anything we tried. The best thing was honestly the plain tortilla chips. The shrimp taco tasted fishy but not in a normal shrimp way but a yuck way. The buffalo chicken taco was meh. The chicken tikka taco was just lacking, I dont know what would've made it better. The chimichurri steak taco just was slightly sour. Every single taco was dryyyyyy. The guacamole was tolerable but not good. The elote id probably say the same. However, holy cow was the queso ultra salty. It couldn't even be used to wet the tacos because of the salt level. We also bought 2 bowls. The brisket was dry and just not the best. I cant tell you about the 2nd bowl because they forgot to give it to us. Good vibe. And musica for a tasteful flavor explosion at Velvet taco. I came for their soft opening, and really enjoyed the food and atmosphere. It's fast casual with food made to order. They pause the music and call out your name when order is ready. I personally had the brisket barbacoa bowl which was great. A filling meal, the meat was tender but had the right chew still. The dining room is comfortable and trendy. Since they were testing their service and being max full I'm sure it was a bit slower than what it'll be, but the food is definitely worth it. Big fan!!! I was so excited to try this place. We had never been before. I was even more thrilled to see there was a vegetarian menu and my favorite taco was the fried paneer cheese taco. was originally very excited to try velvet taco when i heard they were coming out to naperville. i work in food service and have for over 10 years, so I know the kind of work that goes into it. I also dont normally write reviews. i ordered the combo that came with two tacos (the quesabirria and the smash burger) and a side (elote) with a beverage. For starters I received no beverage so that was a bit disappointing. I wasnt going to complain about that, it was just sad. I was the most excited about the quesabirria ones as i love those so much. My first bite literally had a piece of sticker paper???? in it? i had to fully pull it out of my mouth. that was when i decided to write a review. the taco was also super bland on top of that. Which is something i wasn't going to complain about either but the sticker inside my taco was ridiculous in my opinion. I also ordered this as take out. I had to eat the elote with the chips because i wasnt given a fork or any napkins. the elote was pretty mid. The only saving grace was the spicy tikka chicken taco i ordered extra. Very good spice, the rice was cooked well, an overall 8/10 taco. I ordered to-go and had the taco chicken bowl, the shrimp taco, and the chicken masala taco which really just felt like chicken tenders with sauce. Overall, the food was okay at best. What really turned me off happened while waiting for my order. The person checking and preparing the to-go bags had gloves on good but then wiped down a table using a washcloth from a dirty bucket with the same gloves on. After that, they went right back to closing up my food and handed me the bag with those same gloves. I get that things happen in busy places, but actually seeing it... yeah, it gave me that "yuk" feeling. Step up and order at the counter and then your order is called out when it is ready. The menu board is divided up by protein type. All the bowls are in one list and then the tacos divided up by protein type. They do have a pretty extensive list of tacos to choose from and some unique ones too. There is a Weekly Taco Feature (WTF). We ordered some bowls and tacos to try as well as some of the bottled drinks and sangria and margarita. The drinks were good, especially likes the sangria. The tacos had a wide range. Some of the corn tortilla shell didn't seem as heated as I would have liked. The Chimichuri steak was in cubes, I thought it could be better sliced for the sauce to really soak in. Not overly tasting of the Chimichuri. Also the pico here is a bit on the spicy side, so if you don't like heat at all be sure to take note. The birria tacos come in a pair and looked pretty good. The real killer was when I went in the restroom to take a leak, I heard a lot of grunting and groaning in the stall. One of the workers was having a moment and going through it. I'm from out of town and used to live in the area for 42 years. My son and I thought we would try a new place. My son ordered the tacos and asked for raw onion. The gentleman taking the order said they only have pickled onion and red onion. He said he wanted the red onion. I ordered nachos. There wasn't a clean table in the entire restaurant so I had to use water from the soda dispenser and paper towels to clean a table. While we were waiting I noticed there was a bowl sitting on the counter for quite some time. Once the tacos were ready the server picked up the bowl (my nachos) and brought them to the table. The tacos had the pickled onion and my son said he wanted raw. We also asked that the nachos be made again since they were sitting there getting soggy. The server took the tacos back and started to take the pickled onions off. My son saw this and said NO WAY. They did remake the tacos and nachos and they were mediocre at best. My order was wrong and when I went back up to the counter to advise them it was made incorrectly, there was no apology, and I was made to feel like it was a huge imposition to remake what I ordered. So while my family ate their food I waited. And they remade it ...and it was still wrong. Again no apology. And it was ....meh. Better tacos elsewhere. However, the guacamole was good and fresh. Can you imagine if I paid the tip the payment kiosk asked for when we ordered? I would have been furious...instead I was just extremely disappointed an will probably not go back.
