AVOID THIS PLACE!! (Gets 0 stars, actually)…read more Noise was coming from my bottom bracket. As my community bike shop was closed I did not have the tools to fix it, so a friend sent me here to Dumoulin. I told the cashier there was noise from the bottom bracket, and asked them to check it out and give me a call as to what they found along with an estimate. Half an hour later as I am exiting the metro I get a call: they have installed new pedals. I ask if that was what the problem was (and slightly irritated they didn`t call for authorization) they said "Yes". I pick up the bike. I am riding away and I hear the same noise! I take it back: "No, it`s fixed," they say. I make the cashier come out and ride it. He hears the noise. You have to leave it; we`re closed. When I pick it up they charge me for the bracket repair and new pedals. I argue and they say "We`ll have to take back the new pedals.`Fine, just put on the old ones which were good. They can`t find them. First they bring me mismatched pedals, then finally a pair of matched pedals that are tiny. Just wanting out of there, I agree. Two weeks later one of the pedals falls apart. I take it back and ask them to fix it: they can`t but will sell me new ones! I argue and say you can give me used but they have to work: they tell me they will charge an installation fee! My friend from the neighborhood also is arguing with them: finally he installs two matched pedals. Two blocks later I hear grinding: one of the pedals has shot bearings. I`m done. A month prior with another bike I had a minor problem with my rear wheel. The owner of La Shop Urbaine on Villeray fixed it and didn`t charge -- and he hadn`t broken it! I will pay HIM for new pedals. Unbelievable that Dumoulin removes good pedals, replaces them with crap pedals, then wants to charge for repairs. In the midst of that I had given them another bike to fix the rear wheel: they sold me a new one saying it was better. The new one takes three times as long to stop when braking. I think their answer to everything is to sell you a new part even if it`s no good. I wouldn`t send a crook here...

I held off on a negative review for nearly a year, giving the benefit of the doubt. I purchased a Schindelhauer bike from them and the online payment system calculated purchase and shipping (great price). This was a mistake with the payment system and I called the next day and we figured out shipping. The bike arrived damaged unfortunately. I took dozens of photos and tried to submit to ups directly. Unfortunately a damage claim has to be submitted by the shipper. This involved UPS and a shipping company they use called freightcom. Velo lifestyles blamed freightcom, so I reached out to freightcom.... They blamed velo... you see where this is going. Keep in mind this is nearly a year into this! I had an unusable bike until the manufacturer actually sent me a fender to mount. I originally had tried to bend the damage away from the tire to make the bike usable. I give credit to Schindelhauer for providing the part... it really wasn't their issue. Velo put it off so long I emailed Germany and got it myself! They now claim that they no longer ship to the United States due to shipping issues. I would avoid purchasing from this company due to a shady handling of the shipping claim. They seem nice on the phone and might be a good option if you pick up in person. I can speak to my experience with them. I would avoid any business that won't support their customers or stand behind a sale.

I asked him how long to repair a rear wheel. "What`s wrong?" It needed truing. He put it on the stand and gave it a quick true. "No charge", he said, and adjusted the brakes quickly for good measure. "Still needs work, but that will get you around for a day or two." I appreciate good customer service, so as I needed a new light I went back there. He didn`t have it but he ordered it and said it will be in in a few days. This was my second visit: the same friend had a problem with her lock and he fixed it. Again no charge. And he gave her info on how to keep it working. A great place to visit. Great vibe, great service! My friend is fiercely loyal (she stores her bike here over winter), and I can see why.
