I was looking for a new wheelset for my fixed gear, just a slight upgrade from stock. I seemed to be breaking spokes too often, and the lock nuts on the hubs were very specific in their adjustment. Plus, I figured it wouldn't be hard to shave a few grams off the weight. I saw velomine.com mentioned on some forums, so I decided to pay the website a visit. Based on the testimonies, I got the vibe that it was a small shop, providing a level of personal attention to craftsmanship and customer service. The website is simple -- just like you may expect from a mom-and-pop brick-and-mortar. But, it's secure, and it does the trick. The selection isn't as extensive as, say, a Performance Bicycle. But I quickly realized that I wasn't just browsing a list of wheelsets that came out of a factory; in line with the statements that had directed me to the site in the first place, these are actually hubs laced to wheels -- and that allows a whole new level of choice and quality. While I drooled over some of the options -- Mavic, Phil Wood, Miche -- this is my commuter fixed gear, a Fuji Track. I ride several thousand miles a year, whether for fun or transport, and that involves locking it up outside in the elements or amongst thieves, dropping off a curb from sidewalk to street to take a gap in traffic, and mashing on streets with many a dip and bump. It's a perfectly decent steelie, so I want a perfectly decent wheelset. I found it: Origin8 hubs, Weinmann rims. Simple, not flashy, great price point. I took a look at the dimensions to confirm compatibility (made easy by the detailed specifications listed for every product), then pulled the trigger. The shipment arrived in the expected amount of time. It was packed with an appropriate amount of protection and care. Tape, tubes, tires, cog, lockring...then on my bike they went. That was well over 1,000 miles ago. Scores of drops from curbs. Scores of surprise dips hit so hard they rattle ones teeth. Ridden by someone about 190 pounds. These wheels were perfectly true and spun beautifully out of the box. Even after the use described above, they're still running great. No broken spokes. No suspicion that one is right around the corner. Barely out of true. And that tells me that Velo Mine is indeed a source for high quality components, architected with an attention to detail. Thank you, Velo Mine, for being a source of wheels that I can put my trust in. While the wheelset I purchased may be for my commuter, as someone who loves fixed gear bikes and "fixie points", I can guarantee that I'll be checking you folks out when it comes out to making my next bike roll. And, if I'm ever in the area, I'll make the shop a destination! read more

I'm surprised a company that ships most of their products does not understand how Post Office boxes work. USPS will only ship to my PO Box. Other carriers will only ship to my street address. As usual I provided an address to Velo Mine that works for all carriers. They contacted me and stated they would be shipping by FedEx and would I provide my street address. So I did. (I already had, but whatever). I still provided my full 5-4 zip code which is all USPS needs, just in case. Then one item in the bundle got shipped by USPS. I don't know why. They used my street address and truncated my 5-4 zip code. So USPS sent me a notification of an incomplete address and flagged the shipment to be returned to the sender. Fortunately I got to the post office before they returned it and got my shipment. No thanks to Velo Mine. Having said that, they did ship all the correct parts and the price was unbeatable. So, good company with an incompetent shipping department. read more

Ordered a dt swiss wheelset and couldn't be happier shipped super fast and we're perfect. Only place that had what I was looking for.

Ben is a great Campagnolo resource. Those are hide to find these days. Great customer service and product knowledge. First purchase for me was 10 years ago. It was a Campagnolo Super Record 11 speed package for my new Waterford. One year later, it was a Campagnolo Record component set for another Waterford. Ben was great with his guidance, pricing and overall service. Highly recommended. read more

I was looking for a set of Zipp 404 clincher wheels for my Cervelo R5 and local bike shops all seemed to be steering me toward 'their' favorite wheelset, one I'm sure resulted in more profit for them. I kept getting: "Those are out of stock, try these...." I knew what I wanted and came across some Zipp's on PinkBike listed by Velo Mine in Springfield IL. Never heard of these guys. I'm in CA and needed a way to see who I was dealing with. I got on Yelp and saw their excellent reviews, and subsequently spoke with Ben who was knowledgeable and professional. One week later, just took the first ride on my new wheels. Outstanding service. Great price. Fast shipping and well packed. Shop here!! read more

Bought a H Plus Son wheelset from Velomine - paid, shipped, and got them no fuss to California. Put ~1k miles on them and they're still true after hitting some rough roads and potholes. Highly recommend! read more

I typically don't leave a Yelp review for a non local business (I'm in Tx), but these fellas have knocked it out of the park a couple of times for me. Some of the best customer service I've received in the industry. I'm very particular about my bike parts, especially wheels. I'm a pain in the ass customer because I know what I want and will not accept anything else. These guys have met my needs with amazing prices, turnaround, etc. I highly recommend them. I'm from the Boston area. Velomine produces excellent product - can't beat their quality or price! Excellent group of guys to deal with (I personally worked with Steve and Ben). The guys at Velomine are about as good as you could ever ask for. I was in a pinch today for a ride I'm doing in Colorado. I forgot my 12-29 cassette and would have been suffering through the Rockies if I hadn't of thought to call Ben. Ben had an 11-29 Miche campy compatible cassette on one of his own bikes that he took off and is overnighting to me. A couple of years ago I bought a full record 11 set from Ben and he upgraded the crankset to Super Record for me, no charge. I didn't even ask, he just told me he did it. Not only are the prices at Velomine the best in the United States, the customer service is second to none. Thanks Ben and everyone at Velomine for everything! -Aaron read more

I heard about Velomine from The Radavist when his blog was still ProllyisnotProbably and Velomine came with high praise. Being hyped by one the world's biggest bike bloggers comes with high customer expectations I would say. And once I had the chance to buy a wheelset from Velomine my high expectations were indeed surpassed. Ben & Steve are just stand up friendly and helpful guys. I was able to send them a pair of rims I had and they built them up professionally and promptly. They responded to every email no matter how detailed the question. If your city lacks true wheel builders such as mine or heck, if you just want to have a high quality wheelset period go with Velomine. Plus there prices are very reasonable. Can't recommend these guys enough!! read more

Great place to pick up almost any high end part or component. I picked up a set of Enve 6.7s earlier this year and had a great experience. Great price and customer service. Will definitely be looking at their stock for my next large purchase. read more

Thank you for having a staff that actually know the products they sell. Unlike many dealers out there, you excel not only providing a decent customer service, but actually knowing the technical aspects of the cycling gear you stock, and that is essential. Keep up the good work! read more
