French dip and fries.
Elizabeth G.

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Just ate here - it was great, the kitchen is actually in a food truck but there is a large, cozy dining room and a beautiful patio with a great view of the St John's.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Great friendly service. We had, among other things, pimento cheese (different but excellent) and a French dip. And the fries are absolutely the best!!! Highly recommended!

Susan and I stopped at Velchoff's Corner after a boat ride on the St. Johns River, and this place continues to impress us every time. [[HIGHLIGHT]]It is a permanently placed food truck with patio and indoor seating, and everything about it feels intentional and welcoming.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The food is outstanding. The Cracker Swamp Burger is hands down the best burger I have ever had and earned our Best of the Best award. Susan loves the shrimp and grits, and the fried chicken gumbo and shrimp buffalo bites were excellent. Quality is top shelf across the board. Service was friendly, though a little slow due to staffing, but the experience was absolutely worth it. This is a must-stop if you are anywhere near Palatka.

[[HIGHLIGHT]]The ambiance was the first thing that got my attention. Upon arrival the look and feel of the place was so welcoming. Outdoor seating on a beautiful day with an awesome guitar player and a seating area filled with unpretentious beautiful plants.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The food comes out of a big food truck and don't let that disappoint or discourage you because the food was very good. The staff were so friendly as if you were one of their regular patrons. Well we will be for sure! [[HIGHLIGHT]]The park was only step away & beautiful right on the St. John's river.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]The only downside was that we wished the coffee shop was opened next door to Velchoff's & the shops too on the very small Main Street were closed or non existent.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Palatka is an up and coming and Velchoff's Corner is the rising shining star. We will return. Oh& the fries are delicious! And the waitress from New York made you feel as if you had been going there for years and it was our first visit but not our last for sure.

Crab crown chowder bowl. $12. And Bloody Mary w extras.

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Very nice location.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Drove from Gainesville to check out the area. From yelp reviews picked this place and well worth a stop! I had the crab corn chowder. And Bloody Mary w extras! Excellent food. Service a bit slow - was moderately busy.

I've passed by this quaint place and this time I stopped in. Was greeted by super friendly staff that loved where they worked and what they did. Had the Blackened Mahi sandwich and it was hands down the best one I've ever had. Fresh caught, thick and moist without too much tartar sauce trying to mask anything. I'm a 5th generation Florida Native and this by far was hidden gem. See you all soon.

Another amazing meal at Velchoff's Corner. Celebrated a friend's birthday with great food and conversation. The Avocado Toast was amazing!!! Not shown here was the Blue Crab chowder, Caesar Salad, and Cajun fries which were the star of the evening. So sorry I didn't capture those. We were pre-gaming with the fries as an appetizer and I didn't think to take a pic. I highly recommend them though.

Velchoff's where to begin? I loved it ! It was love at first sight type of deal . I came with the work crew on our lunch break, we sat outside, and it was blissful. I love how the food was prepared in the tin crate. Everything was so fresh, tasty, and perfectly seasoned. So good! Prices were great! The fries were the best! I am from California and it has been rough finding a restaurant in FL with good fries. Velchoff's for the win ! KUDOS: PLEASE GIVE OUR WAITRESS AMY SHE WAS STELLAR!!

Shrimp and grits

With perfect weather, we enjoyed sitting outside. (indoor seating is also available). The kitchen is in a food truck. Our server, Zoey, was friendly and attentive. I enjoyed the grilled oysters, although one of the three was not hot. The shrimp and grits were excellent. The fried green tomatoes were OK. I was disappointed in the beignets. The inside was tough, rather than light. I didn't mention this to our server, so perhaps this was an unusual batch. I would return for the ambiance and the service.

The combination of imaginative cocktails, exceptional food, and a unique atmosphere makes every visit memorable. The cocktail program is outstanding. We enjoy trying a variety of their exotic and inventive drinks, and they never disappoint. The flavors are bold, creative, and unlike anything you'll find at a typical restaurant bar. The Yellow Submarine cocktail is quite possibly the best drink I have ever consumed. Made with curry-infused Bermuda black rum, lime, ginger, and Asian five-spice brown sugar syrup, it sounded unusual on paper but came together beautifully. I enjoyed it so much that I ordered four of them that evening, something I rarely do. That was three years ago, and despite returning several times since then, I have never seen it on the menu again. The food is equally impressive. Two years ago, I ordered the Skillet Roasted New York Strip served with Yukon Gold potato-anna, roasted asparagus and spring onions, watercress, and black truffle hollandaise. To this day, it remains one of the top five restaurant meals I have ever eaten. Every component on the plate was exceptional. The steak was perfectly prepared, the crispy potato galette was irresistible, and the black truffle hollandaise elevated the entire dish to another level. It was the kind of meal that stays with you long after the plate is cleared. I would gladly drive 300 miles just to eat it again. Most recently, I had the wild mushroom bisque, and it was the best soup I have ever consumed. Rich, creamy, buttery, intensely mushroomy, and perfectly balanced, it was everything a mushroom soup should be. The addition of crispy pickled onions and crème fraîche added texture and contrast that made an already outstanding soup even better. My wife and I enjoyed it so much that we returned the very next day hoping to order it again, only to discover it had already rotated off the menu. My only complaint about The Ice Plant is that some of their greatest creations seem to disappear as quickly as they arrive. While I appreciate the constantly evolving menu and understand that seasonal changes are part of what makes the restaurant special, there are certain items that deserve a permanent home. The Yellow Submarine cocktail, the wild mushroom bisque, and the Skillet Roasted New York Strip with black truffle hollandaise are three of the finest things I have experienced there. The fact that I can vividly remember one of these items from three years ago and another from two years ago says everything. Great restaurants serve good food. Truly special restaurants create dishes and drinks that stay with you for years. The Ice Plant has done that for me more than once, and that is why we continue to return whenever we visit St. Augustine.

The Ice Plant is one of those places where the experience starts before you ever take a bite of…read morefood. The decor fits St. Augustine perfectly. Antique, rustic, comfortable, and full of enough character that you almost feel like you've stepped 200 years back in time. Then the drinks arrive, and suddenly you realize you've been transported into the future of cocktails. I wish I could remember the name of the drink I ordered because it was spectacular. Whiskey, a little sweetness, mint, and crushed ice. That's about all I can tell you. What I can tell you is that I could have happily consumed about 30 of them, tumbled down the stairs, and been perfectly happy about the whole experience. My wife went with the Mojito, and it was brilliantly constructed. The crushed ice and layered mint made it look almost too good to drink. Almost. The drinks absolutely deserve five stars. Then came the blue crab beignets, and they were spectacular. That's the kind of appetizer that makes you stop talking for a minute because everyone at the table is too busy enjoying what's happening. Unfortunately, the rest of the food didn't quite live up to the cocktails. The fish dip was very average and lacked much flavor, and the menu itself felt pretty limited. So here's the deal: if you're coming to The Ice Plant for drinks, I would have no problem giving it five stars. The cocktails are that good. This is a highly recommended stop for a drink in St. Augustine. But I have to review the entire experience, and the limited menu and average fish dip bring the overall experience down a notch. Four stars. Come for the drinks. Stay for the atmosphere. Definitely order the blue crab beignets. And if you happen to find yourself three cocktails deep, admiring the antique decor while contemplating the stairs, maybe just take your time.

OK I love fried shrimp, and as most folks from around here know when they think of fried shrimp…read morethey think Osteens in St. Augustine, and Osteens is indeed good, but Musselwhites is almost (within 95%) of Osteens except you don't have to wait outside for an up to an hour, they take credit cards, you can get a beer with your meal, their open on Sundays and you do not have to drive to St. Augustine. When I want fried shrimp today, Musselwhites is my goto place. Just as Osteens, the shrimp are two biters fried with a similar breading. As with Osteens, the dinners come with two sides and there is a large selections of fresh country sides to choose from. The hushpuppies are just as good as Osteens. They also serve a Menorcan seafood chowder here just as good or even better than the Osteens version and there is a fresh bottle of Dattle Sauce on the table to spice this red chowder up another notch or two if you are so inclined. We live in Green Cove, and it is about a 30 min drive to Musselwhites (one traffic light until you get to Palatka). If you love fresh Florida Fried shrimp, but don't want to deal with the hassles of Osteens, then Musselwhites just may fill the bill. I know it does for my family.

My bf got the coconut shrimp and he stated they were delicious. We got there about 6:30p on a weds nite. We were surprised that we didn't wait long for the food and was seated immediately. I don't know if we came after the dinner crowd or they just weren't that busy but either way it was a blessing. Our waitress was very tentative, friendly and warm. The ambiance was quiet which was nice as we just returned from a long trip to & from Ga.
