We cannot say enough wonderful things about Rockledge Specialty & Emergency Hospital and the care…read morethey have given our baby cat, Eddie!!! His journey has NOT been simple, and they have supported us medically and emotionally every step of the way. Eddie came in very sick, and instead of guessing or rushing, the team took a very thoughtful and thorough approach. He had so many things done, including staying overnight multiple times, an echocardiogram, ultrasounds, blood work, PCV checks, and multiple rounds of testing to try to understand what was happening. It was all soooo confusing as to what was wrong with him, but the team never gave up. They carefully ruled things out, explained results clearly, and never made us feel rushed or like our questions were a burden. Eventually, the doctors shared that Eddie might be facing FIP or lymphoma which was so scary to hear - but they walked us through what that meant, what treatment options existed, and what to expect. They were honest, compassionate, and hopeful in all the right ways. We had the FIP medication overnighted and started it immediately, and have seen amazing results! This would not have been possible without Dr. Smith's intellect and dedication. Along the way, the staff constantly reminded us how much they loved Eddie and how sweet he is, which meant so much especially on the hard days. He has always been treated like a loved patient, not just "another cat." We were especially touched when Dr. Smith came in during his Thanksgiving break to care for Eddie when he needed treatment. That kind of commitment is rare, and we will never forget it!! Today, Eddie is gaining weight, healing, and slowly getting stronger, and we truly believe we wouldn't be here without the careful, dedicated care from this hospital. We are deeply grateful for the doctors, technicians, and staff at this hospital. If you are looking for a veterinary team that combines outstanding medical knowledge with genuine compassion and heart, this is the place to go!!! Thank you to everyone who works there! Love EDDIE, Mom Frankie, & Dad Joe

I'll start off by saying, kudos for being open on Christmas for emergencies like our car accident…read moresituation. But that's about all I'll say positive about our experience here. The front intake staff was good and friendly. The facility was clean and safe. If your pet has diarrhea or vomiting, this so called "hospital" can probably help you in an emergency with fluids and pills. It seems that's where their "hospital" supplies and support end. We sat in the front lobby for 3-1/2 hours because the "triage" nurse had our dog with a fully broken leg from a car accident listed as "stable and ok". We got pushed back for 2 other pets that came during that wait time. One did seem to be real emergency and needed help ASAP.Once we got in a room, the nurse spent a few minutes checking heart rate, eyes, tummy, then the leg. Also made us check weight a second time because someone forgot to write 34.7 kg down. No other body checks for a dog who was in a car accident. Doctor vet finally came in 30-45 minutes later and said "that's for sure broken, sorry I should have gotten to you sooner but he was listed as stable and ok on the chart". Even though he cried in pain for 3 hours in lobby. After spending a minute or maybe 90 seconds looking at him, she ordered "x-rays". Fully sedated our dog with anesthesia for an hour and only took ONE UNCLEAR XRAY! They took no blood or urine samples to check his body out. Dr came back in said "he needs a surgeon and we don't have one until next year". Then said with his arthritis, it would make surgery difficult. Handed us a list of other hospitals and specialists they knew of from Jupiter to Orlando to Gainesville to as to help us. Then gave us $667 bill for one xray, 2 prescriptions for pain, and splinter for the leg. No directions on how to help his leg stay stabilized except "put him in kennel". The next day after calling all their people on the list the next day, including the University of Florida we were told no one was staffed for a bone surgery for the holidays. Luckily I found a bone specialist down in Vero Beach who took us in Saturday. After reading the treatment summary and calling you guys, his staff and him could not believe that you guys only took ONE UNCLEAR XRAY of a small part of the leg. No blood or urine samples at all. With the specialist we got 7 xrays of the legs and 2 of the spine and chest without anesthesia! We were only there for 1-1/2 hours as well and they have a surgeon who can do surgery. On their xray array they also caught a prostate issue. That is how you give pets good care, is by actually checking them out fully. If you have something simple like dehydration or vomiting, these people can probably help. But if you want real useful healthcare with actual hospital style supplies and staff, I'd strongly suggest finding a more appropriate emergency hospital. After waiting so long and getting one xray and a splint then kicked down the road to a real vet hospital, I'd never return here again. I truly feel they owe me a full refund for at least the xrays, as they didn't even accomplish that simple task fully, and I had to pay to have them redone. PS The bone specialist said nothing about arthritis making this fix difficult.

Dr. Eginton is a talented surgeon and a very kind person. She set clear expectations pre-surgery about the risks/recovery period & was quick to respond when I had post-op questions/concerns. She went over all the discharge instructions line by line and even took the time (after a long day) to walk Lucy out & provide guidance how to safely lift her into my SUV. Lucy's incision has since healed (she initially wore a cone and then surgical recovery suit 14 days), her skin color has normalized, and appetite returned. She's a happy girl! I have visited only twice, first due to my elderly small dog suffering a neurological issue,…read moreseizure and paralysis and the second due to my mom's dog in an extremely ill situation. In both cases, we (coincidentally) received care from Dr. Hammett, who was an incredibly kind, compassionate, and thorough doctor. I cannot thank Dr. Hammett enough for his gentle care. In both cases, humane euthanasia were the ultimate decisions and Dr. Hammett was so supportive. I can't thank him and this group enough for their incredible diagnostics, care, and gentle and respectful communication. I live out of state, so finding a practice so compassionate in an emergency situation was unexpected, but truly made all of the difference.

WARNING LONG: This experience happened months ago but every time I pass this place I can't help but…read morethink about it. I took my 12 year old dog there once after he wasn't eating and throwing up. He threw up some blood one night after not eating for a week so I was concerned and needed to know if this was urgent or if it could wait til the morning to take him to the primary vet. I took him in and they set us in the corner. A tech came over, stuck a thermometer in his butt and came back with a bill of over 1800 dollars. The bill listed all the things they were going to do (X-ray, ultrasound, shots, and fluids). He couldn't explain a single reason why he needed this stuff, he hadn't even been seen by the vet yet. I asked if the x-ray or the ultrasound was more important than the other, the vet tech ran to the vet, came back and said I can wait on the X-ray til whenever I can see my primary vet. This showed me that they didn't need the X-ray as it wasn't urgent, but would do it and charge me anyways. So he takes it off the bill. He didn't ask permission to do anything else but just came over and poked my dog with "medicine" without telling me what it was. Now this is where I really start getting angry. I need to preface this by saying when the vet finally came over to check him she said that his abdomen was very tense and it was hard to feel around . The vet comes over with another tech carrying a V-shaped block thing that I didn't know was supposed to hold my dog upside down. Without telling me what was going to happen they grab by elderly dog and WWE flip him over into the holding block. He was so distressed at this point. They try to give him an ultrasound while he was squirming around. And the vet says "yeah he's still too tense." Well no kidding Sherlock you said he was tense just standing up, what made her think catching him off guard and flipping him over would make him less tense. So she couldn't see a single thing on the ultrasound and I of course got charged for it. I was so disappointed in myself for putting him through that as one of his last experiences alive. I'm sure this place has been great for other people but I'm afraid this place takes advantage of people's panic, just do whatever they want to your pet, and not expect to be questioned about it.

Our sweet Charlie ended up at the emergency vet with a bladder obstruction that required surgery…read more What started as straining to pee turned into a whirlwind of ER visits, anesthesia, and a major procedure to remove stones from his bladder. I don't usually share personal stuff like this, but I'm making this post for one reason only. If you ever have an emergency with your pet, go to VEG ER for Pets. When we were trying to find a vet to perform the surgery, our VEG doctor sat there and personally called vet after vet to get someone to fit us in. And when we finally found the right place, she stayed on the phone with the surgeon and fully briefed him on Charlie's condition so there was not a single gap in his care. They kept us informed, comforted, and confident that our boy was in the best hands. He made it through surgery like a champ and finally came home but after we got him settled, his temperature dropped and we had to rush him back to VEG. They immediately took him in, warmed him, ran an ultrasound to make sure nothing was wrong, monitored him until he was stable... and didn't charge us a dime. Because of how long this whole process was, and having to go back again, we saw three different doctors at VEG, and every single one of them treated Charlie (and us) with the exact same level of urgency, compassion, and kindness. That consistency in care meant everything to us. Charlie is home now, snuggled in blankets, eating, and slowly getting stronger! If you ever face an emergency with your fur baby, VEG is the place to go. We are beyond grateful and will recommend them to anyone and everyone.

They are always so polite and work as hard as they can to help every animal that comes in. Service is based on severity of an animals condition, same as a human hospital. Some people get so mad because they have to wait, sometimes for hours. But take a minute to think about it. If you have a pet that was hit by a car and needed immediate medical attention, would YOU want to wait until it was your turn! While watching them help another animal that maybe had a broken leg. I GET IT, as an avid pet owner who loves her dogs, no one wants them to be in pain! I have gone there with a life emergency and was seen right away with surgery required. Other times I have had to wait for hours. I am good with it either way! Folks complain about the cost, yep, it's expensive but again, how much does it cost to go to the emergency room for humans? Plus, most of the people that work here also work at regular vet locations. Do I recommend them? You bet I do!!
