I rushed my poor dog Fuzzy there in the middle of the night (a few months ago) after breathing hard for a few hours, hearing fluid in his lungs, and hoping they would do ANYTHING to help him. They snatched him up and ran him to the back but just stuck him in an O2 tank and devised a massive list of tests instead of beginning with the most crucial tests that HONEST veterinarians would've done immediately. They lied to me that he had calmed down and stopped panting and showed me their initial plan... around $5,000 of tests and many were double charges for the same thing! They invent ridiculous charges like "facility" and "Nurse on hand" like WHAT??? I'm paying for nurses to be where they already were even if they never looked at my dog??? I checked on Fuzzy and he was panting even harder and moaning terribly so I grabbed him and left because they were doing NOTHING to ease his stress and pain. They're LIARS and greedy scammers who have ZERO empathy for animals. I finally found a clinic who would run an ECG but it was too late and my sweet baby passed away from Pulmonary hypertension. Since then I've heard countless horror stories about the BluePearl franchise, the McDonald's of animal hospital services.

I made numerous…read morecalls to numerous clinics because my dog probably had a ruptured disc & time is of the essence to get him into surgery to fix this issue before it causes irreversible damage to his legs. I was advised on Sunday April 19 that I would need to go to Blue Pearl at Brentwood, not the Nashville location, not NVMS but Blue Pearl in Brentwood. I needed someone on Sunday but I was told that no one was on call or available. We could bring him up there & they would hospitalize him until Monday morning 7 hopefully a neurologist would be able to see him Monday. I did not choose that option but I was informed that if I was bringing him Monday then I would need to be there by 5AM to admit him through the ER & then he would be transferred to Neurology. So I get up and leave my house before 3AM & drive 127 miles to Brentwood location. He is assessed & is sitting in the kennel for 2 hours before I get a call letting me know that the MRI machine is down & they do not know if it is going to be fixed that day or what time & do not know if they will be able to do the MRI on him that day or not but time is of the essence once they have lost deep pain in their legs which I was told had already happened. So we call around & find out that Murray, KY vet has a CT machine & they can do the scan & see if it will pick up his damage & then head to Paris for the vet that had recently retired from Mineral Wells clinic recently who had graciously agreed to do his surgery for us. He said my dog had not lost deep pain sensation like what was told to us by one of your vets. I wasted 7 hours of his time by going to your clinic & then having to fight Nashville traffic to get to Murray, KY which is about an hour or so from my house. Luckily, they think my dog will be able to walk again but he would probably be walking by now had we not driven all around Middle TN trying to get my dog assessed & wasting his time, our time & our gas. YOUR facilities need to work on your communication because the receptionist did not know the MRI was down, the person that checked us in did not mention an issue with the MRI & the vet did not mention it until we wasted 2 hours in Brentwood driving around killing time while waiting for a neurologist to come on duty. I don't know how you can call your clinic an emergency clinic when there is no one on call or on duty on the weekends & no one to call in to help save an animal on the weekend. Piss poor excuse for a vet clinic in my opinion. Rant over & don't worry, I will never step foot in your clinic ever again & I will let everyone know that if you have an emergency, you are screwed if you think they will get treated at Blue Pearl

A Difficult Experience During a Painful Time…read more Losing a pet is incredibly hard, and when we faced the sudden decline of our beloved four-legged family member a year ago, we were emotionally vulnerable. Our regular vet recommended NVS when our senior dog suddenly couldn't move and was in obvious distress. We share this backstory to highlight our state of mind during our visit. After the initial exam, we were told our dog's condition could be terminal cancer or something else entirely, requiring surgery and tests for a definitive diagnosis. When we pressed for a prognosis, we received vague answers: days or weeks if it was terminal cancer, possibly years if it was something else. Given her advanced age, we questioned if putting her through surgery was truly in her best interest, and even asked about euthanasia, but received little guidance. The most jarring moment came when the surgeon, called in specially, told us, "I can give you five minutes to decide on the surgery. Then I leave" This comment, more than anything, shifted our focus from our pet's well-being to the surgeon's impatience. It left a lasting negative impression during an already agonizing decision-making process. Despite the uncertainty, and given less than ten minutes total to decide, we opted for surgery. The outcome was the worst-case scenario: terminal cancer. She might have weeks, maybe a few months. Ironically, the same surgeon who showed little empathy earlier offered the most poignant advice: "Be as present with her as you can." This, too, has stayed with us. During this stressful time, the discussion of costs arose. Over the phone, we were quoted upwards of $7,000, with an itemized breakdown including the initial exam, surgeon's consult, and surgical costs. We painstakingly confirmed the grand total multiple times, even writing it down for our records, as we were not at our best. We were told complications might make this go higher, but we would be called beforehand. At the end ended up around 10 thousand plus. There was no call. However, upon picking up our dog post-op, the bill was significantly higher. We were told we had "misheard" or "misunderstood," which we firmly disagreed with. They claimed the calls were recorded and they would listen back, leading us to believe the discrepancy would be resolved. We paid the inflated amount to take our dog home, but despite numerous follow-up calls, we never received a response or resolution regarding the overcharge. Our precious and loyal furbaby passed away just three weeks after the surgery. Now, with some distance, we can reflect on our experience. While we cannot blame NVS for her terminal condition, the overall lack of empathy and care shown towards both our pet and us during such a vulnerable time, coupled with the billing issue and subsequent unresponsiveness, lack oh empathy makes it impossible for us to recommend their services. One more thing the people at the front desk are just rude and cold with no c We still not hear from anyone to do a follow up on Torry and this means they don't care and just to hear their name make me sick. At the end of the day this place could and should be more understanding, emphatetic of the hard time when we deal with the health of our family members but for them is only money signs and like my grandmother used to say " actions speak Lauder then words? in this case no word nor actions.

We were very pleased with Dr. Nobles. She was extremely personable and listened to our concerns. She even got down on the floor to examine our puppy who was not feeling well. The office is conveniently located off Governors Drive in the Medical District. There was a large parking lot on the side of the building with plenty of open spaces as they are reserved for HVSE and the compound pharmacy only. There's a large green area out front for the pets to use the restroom. Inside, the waiting room was large with plenty of seating. There were two vending machines that accepted credit cards and ApplePay. There was also a water fountain and two bathrooms. They gave us the preliminary costs upfront so there would be no surprises which we appreciated. We highly recommend HVSE and their staff. We would definitely be back if we need emergency vet services in the future.

Yup, I have to echo the sentiments of Elle J…read more Update I confirmed with my husband that on that Friday night when we were here for hours and even when he retrieved Bella's body the following morning he never once was offered the chance to nor spoke with a vet. No one wants to be in a situation where they need an emergency vet because a. it's an emergency, b. it's stressful and c. in many instances, you are facing grim decisions without the luxury of time. In Nov. 2018, on a Friday evening, our sweet terrier mix pup was attacked by a coyote in our front yard in Athens. Ya'll this happened within 20 seconds of putting her out to "do her business." I wrapped her in a towel and tried to hold her up while she was writhing in pain, the hubs got the car going, and I tried to contain her bleeding as we drove to the Decatur emergency vet, only to find out it was closed [?!?!?!] so, we drove to this emergency vet. I'm absolutely soaked in blood when we arrived and I don't recall them taking too awfully long to get sweet Bella out of the waiting room we were in, thank goodness. And that's where the goodness ended. No one offered any towels, soap or anything to help me clean up my clothes. Bella suffered "old dog syndrome" - if you don't know about it that's a good thing because you haven't dealt with it. Dependent on the severity of the disease all the dog does all day [while awake] is walk in circles, in our case counterclockwise. There is no treatment for this disease in counterclockwise circles, at least. My husband did a great job getting Bella fed, which meant hand feeding her, pushing food into her mouth while she made her circles. This is important background because clearly we had a ravaged-by-the-coyote [broken ribs and punctured lungs and I don't recall the other bodily injuries] ON TOP OF this pup suffering a nearly debilitating disease. As others noted, you are stuck with the vet tech du jour for what seems like eternity, who is a liaison between the real vets and you and your wallet options. I kept repeating to the young vet tech that Bella's quality of life while being wrapped in tight bandages for her broken rips is contrary to her old dog's disease and asked the tech how they planned to feed Bella, assuming it would be IV. She couldn't give me an answer. We were here for hours getting updated cost estimates as new issues were discovered. Had we gotten 15 minutes of the veterinarian's time to explain Bella's disease and to calmly discuss the realities of the main issue in this grim situation which is the animal's resultant quality of life under each possible treatment/surgical option, we would have made the ultimate decision much more quickly. I think you all know what we decided the next morning. I don't recall how much we spent there for Bella's x-rays, pain meds, etc., but it was a lot. That's to be expected. The treatment options were appreciated but completely impractical in an older pup who is already diseased. The facility itself was clean and newish and maybe even brand new. Despite the nice appearance, do not expect to actually talk to an actual Vet in a reasonable amount of time, and do not expect quality of the animals' lives to be rationally addressed, rather do expect to see numerous instances of increasing cost estimates in writing, to which you agree to in writing, and then pay at that time, or I guess, decline the treatment. We've had much better emergency care at Veterinary Regional Referral Hospital in Decatur Alabama, but it doesn't look like they are open 24 hours anymore.

When we got there, they got her back fairly quickly. The vet tech's energy was so kind and calm, despite being a very anxious husky, scared, and in pain, our dog let her pick her up and carry her back to get started. She HATES being picked up. That was VERY telling. Both the vet tech and the vet were incredibly reassuring while being honest and informative. They drew up two different treatment plans and walked us through both so we could make an informed decision and factor in our budget and our dog's needs. When we picked her up, the aftercare instructions were clear and very informative, no guessing. They even cleaned my dog up the best they could without hurting her. She came home smelling better than she did when we picked her up from the spay! The fact that they took the time to tidy up her legs, paws, and tail, even though it wasn't required is telling. You can tell they babied her, loved on her, and took amazing care of her. While I hope to never need them again, if our pets were in need, we wouldn't hesitate to go back. It was pricey, but it's emergency veterinary care in the middle of the night, and well worth the money, in my opinion.
