Their staff is nice & courteous but the communication among the employees sucks. I made numerous calls to numerous clinics because my dog probably had a ruptured disc & time is of the essence to get him into surgery to fix this issue before it causes irreversible damage to his legs. I was advised on Sunday April 19 that I would need to go to Blue Pearl at Brentwood, not the Nashville location, not NVMS but Blue Pearl in Brentwood. I needed someone on Sunday but I was told that no one was on call or available. We could bring him up there & they would hospitalize him until Monday morning 7 hopefully a neurologist would be able to see him Monday. I did not choose that option but I was informed that if I was bringing him Monday then I would need to be there by 5AM to admit him through the ER & then he would be transferred to Neurology. So I get up and leave my house before 3AM & drive 127 miles to Brentwood location. He is assessed & is sitting in the kennel for 2 hours before I get a call letting me know that the MRI machine is down & they do not know if it is going to be fixed that day or what time & do not know if they will be able to do the MRI on him that day or not but time is of the essence once they have lost deep pain in their legs which I was told had already happened. So we call around & find out that Murray, KY vet has a CT machine & they can do the scan & see if it will pick up his damage & then head to Paris for the vet that had recently retired from Mineral Wells clinic recently who had graciously agreed to do his surgery for us. He said my dog had not lost deep pain sensation like what was told to us by one of your vets. I wasted 7 hours of his time by going to your clinic & then having to fight Nashville traffic to get to Murray, KY which is about an hour or so from my house. Luckily, they think my dog will be able to walk again but he would probably be walking by now had we not driven all around Middle TN trying to get my dog assessed & wasting his time, our time & our gas. YOUR facilities need to work on your communication because the receptionist did not know the MRI was down, the person that checked us in did not mention an issue with the MRI & the vet did not mention it until we wasted 2 hours in Brentwood driving around killing time while waiting for a neurologist to come on duty. I don't know how you can call your clinic an emergency clinic when there is no one on call or on duty on the weekends & no one to call in to help save an animal on the weekend. Piss poor excuse for a vet clinic in my opinion. My pitbull loves to eat things she shouldn't, especially when we aren't looking. Our urgent care vet here in Clarksville recommended we take Luna to Blue Pearl, as they have board certified surgeons who are more qualified to handle complicated cases. She ended up needing foreign body surgery, and Dr. Ah did a fabulous job. He ended up massaging her intestines so the string/toy went into her stomach, and pulled it out of her mouth, absolutely ingenious. Everyone was so kind and professional, and I felt very safe leaving my girl in their hands. 10/10 would go here again for emergencies even though they're a little far from me! Took our puppy in for vomiting and lethargy. They ran a bunch of tests and then told us it could be a foreign body but don't know. Offered to keep him for 2400 more over night. The thing that gets me is we were there over 4 hours and they didn't even start an IV. We asked multiple times they said we don't always start an IV on puppies? What if a puppy is dehydrated it's like a baby right? They are the most vulnerable. I felt like it was 4 more hours of dehydration. I'm not a VET but that makes no sense. Everyone is amazing at Blue Pearl, from the front desk staff to vet techs to the doctors. I've taken 2 cats there - Sam had a weekend UTI, and Charlie was referred to Blue Pearl from my usual vet (Carothers Parkway Vets, also great folks) because he was losing weight dramatically. Both were treated with the utmost respect and care, and first class medical treatment Sadly, Charlie was diagnosed with cancer. Despite chemo treatments, it became clear that Charlie was nearing the end, and they made his passing as calm and peaceful as can be for both of us. I will never forget their compassion. Their treatments are a bit pricy (to me), but worth every penny. I know my animals are getting the best care possible, are being handled and talked to respectfully and lovingly, and that everyone there understands how important our pets are to our lives - most, if not all, are pet owners themselves. They are looking for animals that are DYING so that they can PUT THEM DOWN. We brought our pup in twice over two days. The first time there was a lady who had been here with her dog for 6hrs, dog had an open wound, and still hadn't been seen. Our pup was throwing up. Not eating or drinking. And all the team could say is "as soon as we have a doc available." Doesn't matter what time you come in. If your animal isn't dying, they put them in a cage and tell you too wait. We got here at 7am in the morning the second time. No body here. All they could tell us is he is doing okay and sleeping. Why?! He hadn't eaten for 2 days that's why he is sleeping. Our cat wasn't well, was concerned he might have poisoning of some kind. Took him to Blue Pearl and he was taken to the back to be checked out, we were informed his vitals were good, symptoms didn't match poisoning and could monitor at home or pursue forced vomiting/treatment as if poisoned. We opted for home monitoring. A few hours later we called our own veterinarian as our cat wasn't improving and OUR VET AFTER TWO MINUTES looked in our cats mouth and grabbed medical tongs and PULLED OUT A SEWING NEEDLE with some thread attached. Our vet confirmed what we already believed, that Blue Pearl is what it is, and is not what is hoped to be. We took our Blue Heeler in after she jumped out of the back of my sons truck and could not put pressure on her hind legs. We got there and they took her right back. After about an hour, they came in to meet with me and my son to discuss what was going on. They did x-rays and she had broken her pelvis. They spoke with the surgeon and he could get to her the following week but the surgery would cost over $12,000. I was SHOCKED. I immediately told him that we would be taking her home and getting her in with our vet that Monday morning. They gave me a paper that said she was leaving against medical advice and a brief rundown of what they had told us. We kept her comfortable that Saturday night and Sunday and was at our vet's office Monday morning. Our vet did more x-rays and said that her pelvis is broke on both sides but the sockets weren't, so he thought that she could heal on her own within 3-4 weeks with rest and love. He said if surgery was performed, that it would cause unnecessary trauma. Blue Pearl is merely out to take advantage of vulnerable people. Pets are like family members and most people will do whatever it takes to help them get better. Since my experience, I have heard multiple stories of people being quoted upwards of $20,000 to help their pet and ultimately choosing to put them down because they couldn't afford the care. ALWAYS GET A SECOND OPINION! If you can spare a day or so, see your regular vet before making a final decision. More than likely they will charge you a fraction of the price...if our dog needed surgery from our vet, the quote was $750!!! PLEASE READ AND LEARN FROM MY EXPERIENCE There are a few valuable lessons I learned from my cat, Buttercup's emergency care experience at BLUE PEARL FRANKLIN. LESSON 1. I chose BLUE PEARL FRANKLIN based on their top-notch reputation when my cat, Buttercup, needed them the most. I took their "expertise" as the "gold standard" in emergency pet medicine. DO NOT do this. Buttercup ultimately died from undiagnosed brain trauma and no mention that she was at increased risk due to the nature of her injuries. Brain trauma risk factors were NEVER even mentioned to me at BLUE PEARL FRANKLIN while she was there for over 4 hours being initially treated. I know now that brain injury is a high possibility and should be suspected after a coyote/canine attack, but I relied 100 percent on the expertise, astute assessment skills, and patient owner education of a Blue Pearl Franklin Veterinarian. Buttercup was sent home 4 hours later after initial treatment from Blue Pearl and per discharge instructions I was to expect her to be "sedate" after a pain injection. I perceived her at home post discharge behavior as "acceptable" because of this statement and quite frankly she was acting lethargic upon me even initially taking her to BLUE PEARL FRANKLIN in the first place so there was not a drastic change in behavior. I thought she was sedate from the medicine and exhausted from escaping a coyote. Yes, she had other more physically, visible injuries I was made aware of at BLUE PEARL FRANKLIN and that she was treated for, but her number one medical problem that she died from was related to brain trauma. This brain trauma involvement wasn't even on my "radar" so to speak because it was never mentioned by the doctor as something Buttercup was even at risk for. LESSON 2: Don't ever let an ER TECH give you advice on your pets condition as I made a very unwise decision based on the "nice" ER techs advice the next morning when I called BLUE PEARL FRANKLIN for medical advice. Also, never let a receptionist dictate who you should talk to. If your pets injuries are serious DEMAND to talk to someone with an actual medical degree. LESSON 3: You are your pets NUMBER 1 advocate. You know your pet's normal behavior and past history better than anyone. You as an owner have valuable insight and intuition no trained medical professional can match. You would think a vet would know most animals are fearful especially when wounded and do behave differently. Make sure the doctor knows how your animal was behaving right BEFORE you brought them in for urgent care. These are all assessment skills that can turn out to be crucial and these skills I feel were missed on May 10, 2021. Apparently, Buttercup had a rush of adrenaline upon exam and the the vet described her as "bright and alert" and implied Buttercup was strong. Buttercup was very lethargic and not walking at home upon finding her with serious wounds and I told everyone I spoke to at BLUE PEARL FRANKLIN this behavior, but apparently NO ONE listened or bothered writing that down. Due to COVID restrictions, because you can't go back with your pet, this is more important than ever! LESSON 4: Never doubt your instincts/gut feeling concerning your inured pet. The fact that the vet was described my cat as "alert and bright" and implied she was strong even when I verbally told her she couldn't walk as she would "melt into to floor" should have been a "red flag" to me that something wasn't matching up. -The vet verbally expressed to me over the phone that Buttercup was not being "cooperative upon exam, even swatting at her". I would think a veterinarian would understand the mindset of a critically wounded animal and demonstrate empathy. read more

BluePearl got us in quickly (with no appointment), and were incredibly supportive and compassionate throughout the entire experience. They took care of my dog (and me) during her last period of time we had together. If I lived in TN, they'd be my vet for my other pup. Amazing service, incredible compassion, and professionalism like I have never experienced. I received a paw print of my dog as a memento, and by the time I drove home to CA a few days later, they had sent a condolences card in the mail, which was waiting for me. We took our dog to Blue Pearl for an oncology consultation, our regular Vet had referred us there. Our dog was taken back to the back for an exam, while I waited in the exam room. When she was returned, she looked completely traumatized. I had asked them to be gentle while handling her, it appeared that she had been pulled out of her crate and handled roughly by the techs. It is two days later, she had terrible diarrhea after we got home (which she did not have prior to our visit) and she is just now eating again. She has terminal cancer, and certainly didn't deserve this kind of treatment. The only positive of the visit was that the staff was nice to my husband and I....but they weren't very nice to our dog, who was the reason for our visit. AVOID THEIR NEUROLOGY DEPARTMENT AT ALL COSTS. It's an absolute miracle they didn't kill my dog in the several months we had him seeing the Neurologists there. VEG (an emergency vet down the street from Blue pearl, who we liked) warned us that they'd try and get us to do a 5k MRI, but said there are plenty of tests they can perform first. Blue Pearl insisted if we wanted to be seen by neurology the next day, we'd HAVE to check him in to the hospital overnight. They get you scared, and then take you for all your money, because an emergency vet worth anything would see a dog with neurological issues the next day, whether you stay overnight or night. THEN they wait to call you with the all clear until after 3, which means you pay for 2 days of care, at the cost of almost 4K. Dr. Koos acted like she didn't think he was going to survive and because we didn't do a 5k MRI, they were just blindly treating and hope for the best. Which is not the case, they were able to pinpoint the area of the brain affected with other tests. THEN they left him on high doses of medications that aren't meant for long term. They'd say "if he has bloody diarrhea call us immediately." Which we did. And most times, Neurology wouldn't bother calling back for days. So we'd call after waiting all weekend and they'd tell us Neurology doesn't work Mondays, (which was not the truth. Apparently there's a tech who works Monday but if they don't feel like it, they don't return calls) we need to bring him in regardless. Bring him in, and it's like Neurology and the regular ER doesn't communicate because they'd prescribe things without knowing if it interacted with his Neuro meds. Another 2k for that visit. When Neurology, who apparently only works 4 days a week would finally call back, they were uninterested, acted bothered and like you were overreacting. They're so bland in personality and uncaring that I wonder if anyone there enjoys their job at all. We finally went to Nashville Veterinarian Specialists, and they're great. If you absolutely HAVE to go to the Blue Pearl Neurologist, don't plan on staying. They have no interest in long term patients, it seems. Stabilize your dog and immediately request an appointment with Nashville Vet Specialists. They immediately started tapering his meds, were able to stop the bloody diarrhea he was dealing with and have been good about following up. Blue Pearl had our dog as a patient for 4 months. When we stopped coming, never once did they check in. It's a money grab, don't do it. read more

I did NOT want to write this review. Two weeks ago, I awoke to find blood on the rug in my room. My 13-year old beagle, Ginger, did it. And then while watching outside we saw more. My wife and I rushed her to Banfield in Smyrna. As soon as the vet saw her she recommended *this* Blue Pearl. She took my severely ailing dog and I went and got the kids from school. It was so hard. Still hard right now. Before I even got to Blue Pearl, my wife informed me that there was nothing that could be done. When we arrived they were waiting for us. They gave us a private room with lots of tissue and were told to take as long as we wanted. There was a button to summon a doctor. We took a long time. And were never pressured. When the doctor came in she explained what was happening to my kids and explained what would happen. We all gathered around Ginger. They invited us to leave out a side door. They didn't demand any payments. They gave us time to decide what to do with her body. They were so great. Later, we chose to have her cremated there. They sent us two imprints. And we paid over the phone. They sent us a card immediately (I'll post pics). Everyone we worked with was so caring. Even when we went longer than the deadline for making a decision they were great. I know that this may not be the cheapest place. But it is outstanding enough to be worth it. I hope I never go here again. I will start by saying that the two veterinary technicians who worked on May 31, 2023 provided compassionate care of my pet's remains. I will never forget that. On the morning of May 23, 2023, my pet experienced a critical incident. She collapsed unexpectedly at home, but was still awake, still breathing, and still interacting. I called Blue Pearl Franklin to tell them I was coming, and then gave them updates every few minutes during the drive. I was assured during the drive, multiple times, that I would be met at the door with a stretcher when my pet arrived. I gave them ETAs with every phone call, which turned out to be accurate, to the minute, for my arrival. Upon my arrival, there was no one waiting. No stretcher. No staff. With difficulty, I lifted the limp body of my pet from the car and rushed up the ramp to the front entrance. At that time I was met by staff whom I handed off to, telling them, "She stopped breathing two minutes ago." I had initiated chest compressions in the car with one hand while driving with the other, for the last two minutes. They assumed care of my pet, yelling over their shoulders, "Do you want CPR?" I replied "Yes!" and they took her to the back. A few minutes later (I would estimate 3-5), a veterinarian emerged from the back. It was soon enough that I had not even moved my car yet. She approached me and said, "I think we should terminate resuscitative efforts." I was dumbfounded. She had asked me no questions, had given no update on the care given, but recommended termination. I asked, how many rounds of CPR had been administered? One was the answer. Had Epi been administered? Yes. What was the rhythm that presented at the outset of the resuscitation attempt? I continued to have to ask questions, none of the answers were volunteered. No communication about her medical condition or what had been done, other than "we attempted CPR." I requested that the veterinary team at least attempt one more round of CPR before we even discuss termination. Once shown to a room to await the vet, the vet again returned, stating "I think we should terminate resuscitative efforts." She assured me that "dogs do not survive cardiac arrest" and "termination is really the best option." As she was saying these words, a staff member took her aside and whispered to her, her eyes widened, and she stated, "you got a pulse back?" At this point, I was allowed to go to the treatment area with my dog. At this time not only had my pet experienced ROSC, but she was awake, she was looking around, she was moving her head and moving her snout away from the oxygen source to look at me. She was clearly responsive and alert. At this point the staff communicated that her blood pressure was very low (to be expected in the time immediately post ROSC). I asked if fluids were an option, I was told yes, I asked if vasoactive pressor agents were an option, I was told yes, I asked if blood was an option, I was told yes. Fluids had been started, and she had been placed on a warmer. At this time I requested yes, please for the veterinary hospital to do everything possible to help save my Willow. I was assured that it was unlikely she would survive, and was told "I think euthenasia is the best option." I was once again dumbfounded. This animal was awake, alert, and looking around, had been successfully resuscitated, and the veterinary staff attempted to convince me, multiple times, that this animal should be euthanized. I was told that the Vet office, "must advocate for the dog" and "this has been coming for a long time." This Dalmatian was 8 years old and previously of overall good health. She did have a history of MMM and hypothyroid, but neither of these were preventing her from living a full and happy life. She ordered that levophed be started. From the time that levophed was requested to the time levophed was started was 30 minutes. During this 30 minutes, two different techs left to "get the medication." The first tech retrieved the medication, then set it down at another table across from the ER in order to talk to one of the other staff members for a while. The second tech who retrieved the medication (realizing after she brought it, that the medication had already been taken out of the Pixis by another tech, just not delivered) attempted for another 15 minutes to utilize the IV pump to start the medication. If I could give this place no stars, I would. First off, I don't appreciate being talked down to. It was amazing how the shift of the doctor's attitude changed when I actually started asking her questions that were in depth that typical owners wouldn't know to ask. I purposefully didn't inform her that I had been a surgical vet tech for 7 years... Vet hospitals get bad reputations for doctors doing unnecessary tests and procedures. I understand pricing is outrageous because it's an EMERGENCY VET but, being disrespectful is uncalled for. Owners- do your research before doing every little thing the estimate has on there, ask questions, & know- you CAN take your animal home and can do a follow up with your primary vet. Your animal being there for multiple days in a row IS NOT your only option. read more

We took our senior pup (10 years old) due to him being lethargic, not eating, not holding down water and seemed he was having trouble breathing late at night, the only place in the area that was open. They called as we waited in the car and said it would be $125 for the vet to even LOOK AT HIM. Can't afford the $407 quote, so I asked they check him and do what they could paying almost $158. He was given a shot for nausea and the nurse said he had a little heart murmur but it was nothing to worry about. WITHIN 4 HOURS MY DOG LITERALLY COLLAPSED AND DIED!!!! Aka these people charge you then basically let your dog die. He was a rescue and I took him to give him a better life. apparently they can't either if you aren't rich. Also, they didn't even spell his name right and we spelled it for them. Lee Gillette was the name Amigo (omigo, their spelling) was under, as I was too distraught to talk. Edit: while overlooking the "paperwork" I was given by Stephanie the tech (I think that was her name), the nausea medication that was administered is NOT EVEN APPROVED BY THE FDA FOR ANIMALS!!! I had two witnesses with me to appear in court as they overheard the whole discharge convo which by the way was RECORDED. Also upon further inspection of the paperwork there was no mention in writing of a heart murmur as Stephanie said "mild no big deal" again RECORDED. I've recorded convos and again have it in writing with witnesses. I've called today and was told "Candace" was not in the office today so, you mean to tell me there's one person to take calls for all four locations yet no one can speak to me? My dog was going to die. I know this now. However administering a drug that's not approved by the FDA is ILLEGAL. Also, just tell a pet parent their baby is not gonna make it instead of giving them a shot that basically knocked him out only to then basically watch him die a horrific death when this could have been treated better and with actual empathy and care. They have no clue how to diagnose, and a flat fee of $407 and "we don't bill". They should be named "KILLING PEARLS" Pet Hospital. Absolutely deplorable. read more

The pictures speak for themselves. This is the result of the misdiagnosis of all the so called "board certified" veterinarians at Blue Pearl. After a month-long battle with Pancreatitis, possible liver infection, and low blood platelet levels (the only correct diagnosis), as well as over-loading his already compromised liver and kidneys up with harsh antibiotics and Prednisone, my little guy couldn't battle his health problems anymore. "Give him time, give him a chance", is what I was told. Instead of telling me up-front that his liver was starting to fail, I got the run-around, and ended up taking him back and forth (1.5 hours away) FOUR TIMES in less than a month, which put even more stress on his little body. In addition to the four trips to Blue Pearl, I had to take him to the local emergency hospital two times. After losing Lefkoolee, I was flat out denied the right to find out what the cause of death was, because "We didn't see him in the last 15 days before he passed". After six total trips and more than $10K spent trying to save my buddy's life, what do I have to show for it? Well, a picture is worth a thousand words. PS. My advice to all the guardians of companion animals: If your baby is sick, let his/her instincts guide you. They know their body and how to help it. The veterinarians can fix what is obvious, what is hiding inside their little bodies remains an enigma! They can't speak and express where or what hurts so diagnoses are wild guesses based on symptoms unless guardians agree to invasive biopsies. . . Not one veterinarian or staff called me to pass on their condolences for my baby's loss. PS1: Vets Datte and Hamm were friendly and courteous. Vet Ashton was arrogant, "know it all" kind of vet. Vet Vietti was rude. PS2. It is so unfortunate UT Veterinary Teaching Hospital was not accepting patients due to COVID19 even for existing clients. UT was my referral hospital since 2010 for two other dogs I had. They were both correctly diagnosed and treated even at the age of 17!! One of the them (both toy poodles) was operated on for anal sac cancer and lived 2 more years. The other one had heart problems and was administered the correct therapy protocol, passing at 20 years old!! I got the appointment with UT for August 5, 2020--too little too late for my baby. :( PS. My toy poodle was hospitalized and "treated" in your facility. I was informed that we should be given military discount as my husband is Retired Air Force. Please credit our account with your military discount. IN THE CIRCUIT COURT OF MADISON COUNTY, ALABAMA CV 2010-900182 I filed a suit against my first toy poodle's vets, after misdiagnosis and mistreatment by two "board certified" veterinarians. I have the attorney and expert witnesses to repeat it. Unless Lefkoolee's attending vets are willing to discuss with me details about his diagnosis, treatments and deterioration, I will file a suit against your establishment. read more

I am writing this review in hopes to save other pet owners from having the same experience that I unfortunately did here. I brought my dog in at 6:10am who was experiencing serve bloody diarrhea and vomiting. The only kind person in there was the lady at the front desk- both the nurse and the vet treated me like a joke for even coming in with these symptoms. They wrote on my dogs sheet that he came in "alert and bright seemingly happy" which he was not. He threw up on the car ride over, and while he was there so im not sure what would have given her that impression. She was convinced that he got into something and wanted to do an X ray. I told her I was confident that he didn't, as he's with me all the time and does not get into things. I knew he was becoming severely dehydrated, but she told me he looked fine and she wasn't concerned about that. She wanted to prescribe antibiotics that I already had at home, so I opted to do two other services instead including "hydration under the skin" because I knew he was dehydrated, but she did not tell me anything else about it. He came out with a huge hump on his shoulder and the nurse was confused at my shock because I was not told about this side effect. We left and he immediately had a lot of blood dripping from his back end. I called back when I got home in a panic and the doctor could barely remember who I was 5 mins later (we were the only ones in the place). She sounded annoyed and said that the "antibiotic would have treated that" and hung up on me! I couldn't believe how rude she was. As soon as Williamson County Animal Hospital opened at 7:30am I brought him in, And the wonderful vets there immediately knew he had HGE. He had to spend the next 24 hours on IVs and fluids, and I am so grateful to them that now he is better and he received the professional help he needed. They couldn't believe the report that I brought with me from Blue Pearl- stating he was bright and alert only an hour beforehand. Again, the lady at the front of Blue Pearl was so helpful- even giving me paper towels for my car because my dog threw up on the way in. But the nurse and doctor were both beyond rude and never even brought up HGE as option-so I am so grateful I continued to seek care after visiting Blue Pearl. read more
