The technician informed me that his temperature was so low it wouldn't register, so they placed him in an incubator while waiting for a doctor. I then sat for over an hour and a half before finally speaking to Dr. Brands. From the start, his focus was on his computer creating an estimate, not on my hedgehog. He briefly mentioned doing an ultrasound (which showed "nothing significant"), said they had given "oral sugar," but that my pet was still lethargic. Throughout, he made little to no eye contact, and instead talked extensively about the cost of hospitalization -- quoting me $3,000-$4,000 -- before even performing basic diagnostics. He presented me with three options: hospitalization, taking him home with fluids and a liquid diet, or euthanasia. He spoke over me and my mom for nearly twenty minutes, barely allowing us to ask questions. At one point, he even admitted, "I don't know a lot about these guys -- he could just be old." The estimate I was handed was $4,000-$6,000. When I asked if they had rechecked his temperature (almost 2 hours after the first attempt), they had not -- only then agreeing it was "a good idea." When I asked if a simple blood glucose check had been done, I was told it would require invasive catheter placement unless I agreed to the high estimate. Only when I specifically suggested a foot or ear prick did he acknowledge they "could try." At that point, I had already decided to seek care elsewhere. I also mentioned that I work at another emergency veterinary hospital, and instead of showing more professionalism, Dr. Brands dismissed me with, "So you've been holding out on me -- you already know everything I said." When I went to see my hedgehog in the treatment area, I was horrified. He was in an incubator with oxygen but no heat support despite being hypothermic. They had given subcutaneous fluids -- which is inappropriate for a hypothermic patient. As I arrived, he was gasping for air. The technician admitted this had "just started," yet Dr. Brands brushed it off, saying there had been no respiratory distress on his exam. He then walked away and never returned. Within ten minutes, my hedgehog began agonal breathing. I held him in my arms as he passed. The technician confirmed his death -- but I never saw or heard from Dr. Brands again. He did not acknowledge that his patient had died, nor did he provide any comfort or closure. I had called ahead to confirm there was an exotic doctor available, and this hospital is supposed to be a leading facility for exotics. Instead, my hedgehog was given inadequate, careless care in his final moments. I am not upset that my hedgehog passed -- he was elderly -- but I am devastated that he suffered unnecessarily because of the lack of urgency, compassion, and basic medical standards from the doctor.

They took one look at him and knew he was bad off. They immediately took my baby and rushed him to the back and begin working on him. They allowed me to stand there and observe everything they did to my King. I am a medical person and I am familiar with the processes of triage patients with emergencies. The physician performed a sonogram and began to tell me my options of care. I had to make the most difficult decision in my life. I decided not to be selfish and to have my King put to rest. This facility not only comfort me, but my family as well. They gave us a room and told us to take our time, they offered refreshments and continually checked on us. They just went out of their way with compassion and concern. I have never experienced this type of Customer Service in my entire life. It made me and my family feel heard and understood about our wishes. Once my family completed our goodbyes and they put our King to rest, they comfort my family, some even shared tears with us. They gave us things to remember our baby boy King that I will cherish forever. This hospital will always hold a special place in my heart. This is a place that I would love to work at and be proud to say that I worked there because each and every person who works in that building are Gods angels, and truly care about the animals that they treat. I will always be grateful. I know this was God's plan because it all went perfectly. Yes, I left without a dog, but I now have a new family that I would cherish with my other pets. Thank you again to each and every one of the staff who comfort my family, who gave my comforting hugs and who helped my King. I pray that this establishment continue to employee such phenomenal people who I believe are Angels. I would recommend this pet hospital anyone will listen. I am forever grateful.

In a stressful situation, their calm and caring approach made all the difference. Dr. Laura Watson was absolutely phenomenal. She took her time, explained everything in clear, layman's terms, and made sure I understood every step of my dog's care. Most importantly, she genuinely cared. You could feel it. Her compassion and kindness truly stood out. I honestly wish human healthcare providers and physicians were as compassionate and kind as the team at this clinic. VEG is truly a one-stop shop -- assessment, imaging, labs, and even boarding if your fur baby requires continued monitoring. That level of comprehensive care provides such peace of mind. Parking is conveniently located right in front, which is so helpful during an emergency. They also offer multiple affordable payment options, which makes high-quality care accessible and less overwhelming. If your pet ever needs emergency care, this is the place you want to be. They treat your pet like family.

From the moment we arrived, the staff made us feel cared for. The vet tech saw us quickly, and even though the only vet on staff was in the middle of surgery on a dog, they kept us informed and reassured. At 9:00 at night, I completely understand the wait. Both the vet tech and the vet were caring, gracious, and patient. They understood that we were there for a long time and that we were anxious about Willow. The vet spent more time with us than we typically get at Willow's primary care, answering all of our questions, explaining everything clearly, and making sure we felt comfortable with the plan. The clinic itself felt professional and welcoming. I did notice the floors could have been cleaner, but I'll admit I'm overly picky about that. What mattered most was the quality of care, and that was exceptional. Willow is now much better and mobile again, though we're still being careful with her leg. The price is higher than some other places, but the care and compassion we received here were worth every penny. I'm grateful to have a place like this nearby for emergencies.

During one of the hardest weeks of our lives, their team showed up for our sweet 10 month old kitten, Habanero, with so much compassion and care. The staff took the time to explain everything clearly, answer every question, and treat both our boy and us with genuine kindness. They never made us feel rushed. They understood how much he meant to us. What stood out most was how human they were. They celebrated small wins with us, sat with us in the hard conversations, and treated Habby like he was their own. In moments that felt overwhelming and heartbreaking, their steadiness and empathy made all the difference. We are so grateful to the entire team for fighting for our orange boy and for loving him alongside us. Thank you for honoring him and for taking such good care of our family. RIP Habanero ‍

My vet called me & also spoke to the vet there. Waited 2 1!2 hours in a room while my dog was in the back in a cage. I had to go up to the desk & ask what the status was. No one came in to update me that the vet was busy with 2 other dogs. When the Dr came in to explain things, he told me a bunch of things first that was wrong with her - she's 10 years old, so. Got to the low blood sugar and he suspected there maybe a tumor on her pancreas and before any treatment he wanted to do an ultrasound He quoted me on the high end so there wouldn't be any sticker shock - over $1,000 low end and over $12,00 high end. Had an emergency at home and had to leave and brought my dog home. Didn't want to leave her there in a cage all day. Long story and after talking to my regular Vet, Dr. Hale was probably right in his suspicion about a tumor. Low Blood Sugar symptoms are confusion, stumbling and makes it seem like dementia. I'm giving a 2 rating due to the lack of keeping me informed about the Dr., leaving my dog in a cage instead of with me and Dr. Hale is a smart vet but explaining the condition would have been better understood in layman's terms. Good Vet but expensive and the technicians were nice but a little more information on what's going on would have eased my mind.

Everyone seemed very eager to help and made th process smoothe. We liked the open concept because we were able to see the care provided not only to our dog but to the other pets as well. All of the staff worked as such a great team, and the communication between them seemed flawless. We were seen by Dr. Majors, and our tech was Hannah. Both of them were very reassuring and treated Florence like their own. VEG is a very pet family oriented vet, seeing us as a whole and not just a couple people with an animal. When it came time for the price, we were met with such nice transparency, and the DVM was honest with what she recommended and did not try to make us agree to anything that was unnecessary while also making sure we had the option to take all the tests if we so desired. I would absolutely recommend this emergency vet. We have been to another in Carrollton which did not come close to the level of care we experienced here. Thank you!

Horrified beyond measure, I scooped my baby up and jumped into the car to seek medical attention. We have a number of veterinary ERs that have popped up around our McKinney neighborhood, but I opted to risk the extra drive to get my baby into the care of VEG in Allen. While I had never experienced their emergency services, I had experienced their customer service once before--when I had the misfortune of losing her brother on Thanksgiving Day in 2024. We found this place by chance after being treated very coldly and callously by another establishment, which led us to VEG. That experience stuck with me, and thank God it did. In both instances, they treated me and my family with respect, compassion, and great care. Mica had three more mini seizures while in their care, and the staff was immediately on top of it. They were very upfront and clear in their communication, making sure I knew what was happening every step of the way. This allowed me to make informed decisions. It was my biggest fear that I would walk into a grave prognosis--which, on paper, it was documented as such: "grave to guarded." Be that as it may, I truly feel they gave my baby the fighting chance that saved her life. Not once did they bring up euthanasia, and thank goodness, because I don't think my heart could have handled it. I prayed to God to let her see her 12th birthday, which was the very next day, April 2--and sure enough, we made it. She is now 96 hours post-seizure, with no additional episodes since. We were prescribed and provided a rescue dose of midazolam in the event of another seizure, and should it happen again, you can guess where we'll be going. Thank you, specifically, to Dr. Majors, Taylar, and Walter. I am forever grateful for how you cared for us that day. You rolled up your sleeves and sprang into action. May you all serve as the example for how services like this should be rendered. From kissing my baby's forehead, to accommodating all of our needs in such a stressful moment, to sitting on the floor with us--it was all noticed and deeply appreciated. Happy Easter, and thank you again for the gift of a second chance at life.

Urgent care vet said I'm sorry I know that's not what you brought him in for , she said Rudy has asthma and will do X-ray. After X-ray she cam in and showed me the X-ray and said that she's not concerned about the asthma that it was not concerning her, but she wanted to do surgery on Rudy's eye . I have already discussed Rudy's eye with his regular vet and I have an ointment that I apply daily. She was very pushy and dismissed my chief complaint ( coughing with some vomit ) be she wasn't concerned about it. She gave Rudy a steroid injection!!! Immediately Rudy became worse and when I contacted urgent care the response was the treating vet will call you tomorrow when she returns to work ...I'm very upset at this point and they're trying to avoid the situation. Munson called and said bring Rudy back in and that they would take another look at Rudy , at this point I don't trust them anymore. Rudy's treating vet. at urgent care wanted to do surgery as this will warrant her more money. I went to visit family for the remaining holidays and took Rudy with me , my sister was just as concerned about Rudy that she took him to her vet. I learned that country veterinarians have more knowledge and compassion. Can't see the forest for the trees, is what he said !!! Rudy was properly treated and is doing better no thanks to YOU!!! If urgent care Dr wasn't concerned then she shouldn't have gave him steroids. I'm against over vaccination/ medicating my fur babies. Steroids have a lot of side effects!!! This greedy vet at urgent care was just in it for the financial gain and not for the well being of my Rudy . I will be filing a complaint against this urgent care as I have many videos of before urgent care visit and after urgent care visit. I do not recommend this veterinary clinic, if you love your fur babies avoid this place. She had the audacity to send me an estimate for 781.00 for eye surgery , this is not why I was at urgent care!!! Country veterinarians said he wouldn't have gave him steroids. Here is a picture of my Rudy today after being properly diagnosed and treated.
