Went here last night for dinner with a friend; also been here for Sunday brunch. Both times the food was delicious, interesting, and plated well. The set up/ décor is calm and enjoyable and makes for good one-on-one time. One thing I really appreciate is that there are no "open air" tables so no servers or patrons walking around or distracting you. Dishes are at the top of my price range for a regular night out but definitely worth it. Highly recommended, especially the Sunday brunch! I hear their prix fixe vegan menu on Wednesdays is good too though I have yet to try it. Taking off a star only because it's really loud when full.) read more

Update: i just keep coming back! Great food & nice atmosphere, only three stars because the service was not really on point (though the nice waitress with the bun was trying to salvage it all). My husband and I met a friend for dinner at Vee Vee recently. We were about 10 minutes late for our reservation and they hadn't given away our table. We apologized for being late and a woman who I assume is the female co-owner did not seem overly put out, but she mentioned that she was worried that we might have gotten the dates of our reservation mixed up. This didn't bother me at all, but I can see how some might find her personality a little off kilter based on my limited interactions with her. I recommend this place for the food. I had a stuffed poblano pepper that came with a delicious jalapeno polenta cake and a salad of tomato, avocado and micro greens. We had a particularly friendly waitress who was very pleasant and provided good service. When we finished our bread she brought us more without us asking for it. Vee Vee's is hands down the best restaurant in JP and one of the best for it's size and price range in Boston. I eat here all the time mostly with my girlfriend and sometimes by myself and have never, not once been disappointed in the food or service. Both have always been outstanding and I don't say things like this often. What should you order if you go here? I went to Vee Vee a few Sundays ago and had a really great meal. So, I told my vegetarian friends who live in Arlington, Medford and Waltham; "hey there is this new restaurant in JP, you have to try it. They all say yeah, were into it, and so I book a reservation for 6. However, once we got to the restaurant, our 6th bailed due to an emergency at work, (he's an cardiac surgeon.) We seat and there is a seat set for Paul, we didn't mention think to inform the waitress that we were missing someone. Actually, that is a lie I actually thought about it and looked around the tiny place and figured that the 5 of us would fit on a 4 top anyway. I got up and went to the bathroom and when I got back I see everyone at the table grimacing. I asked what was wrong and they informed me that the waitress said: "I wish you would have told me that you were going to be 5 instead of 6, I would have set up the tables differently." I was so embarrassed, because Vee Vee was my suggestion. Unfortunately, Homgirl's rudeness tainted all of our palettes, negatively of course. We were all underwhelmed and we will never return to Vee Vee ever ever again. We will take our $300 bucks and go elsewhere. read more

If you have low expectations of a $20 entree then you will love this place... They are trying way too hard to make the entrees fancy. Everything has a long description makes it sound like this incredible dish but the food was bland and overdone. The ambiance is great and service was fast and friendly. Our rib appetizer was dry and gamey and when the waiter asked if everything was to our liking we kindly mentioned this . Naturally nothing was done to correct this and were still on the bill when it came. Why bother asking if you are not going to fix it!? read more

I came here for brunch a few weeks ago while visiting Boston and expected the normal brunch filled with greasy bacon, eggs, and home fries. As soon as I walked into Vee Vee I was happy I didn't wear the pajamas and slippers I usually sport when going to brunch. The service was nothing special.. our waiter was friendly enough and the food came out pretty quickly. I was very nervous looking over the menu because like I said, I'm used to a plate of good old hangover food all mixed together and dripping with grease. I finally decided to go with the fried egg sandwich with salmon bacon and home fries. Everything was perfectly cooked when it came out, I mean, I don't think I've ever seen a more perfectly fried egg. It was all delicious and I even surprised myself by enjoying the salmon bacon, and trying some of my friend's plantains. I walked out feeling like you should after a good brunch: stuffed. But because it was Vee Vee and not Ihop, I ALSO got to feel like a judge on Top Chef :) read more

I've been really hesitant to write a review, because contributing to Vee Vee's popularity might make it harder to get a table. But my altruism has trumped my self-interest, at least this once. We've eaten at Vee Vee at least eight times -- we usually just drop in and sit at the bar -- and have thoroughly enjoyed it each time. The food is unfailingly delicious, there are always a number of interesting beers, the atmosphere and decor are inviting, and the staff is friendly. We brought our friends there recently and they loved it. If I could afford it I'd eat there every week. read more

I'm glad I waited to review this place. The first time I ate here and subsequent times I called for reservations were somewhat awkward. The owner is a little dry, not bubbly at all so it was hard to read her. Like do you want me to eat here kind of thing, and then I remembered that I hate sickly sweet bubbly people anyway and I gave it another chance. So bff jules and I went, she had not been before due to one of the reservation fiasco's. We popped in and the fab new server said at the most we would have to wait 20 min. We let him know we'd check out Salmagundi while we waited. As usual fun times were had at Salma and superserver came over to get us, awesome! The food is just what everyone says, uber fresh and perfectly seasoned. They have boutique-y wines so its good to ask for suggestions. The space is smart and cozy, not too loud or too quiet. Music rocked, Depeche Mode, Cure, Elvis Costello even! To top it all off it was the restaurants b-day and they gave us free flour less chocolate cake that was melt in your mouth deadliness. I really love Vee Vee. I've been three times total since moving back to JP and I've enjoyed all three times. I love how seasonal the menu is so I can try something new each time. And I really love how fresh and bright the flavors were in all the dishes I tried. The atmosphere is also nice and friendly. I've always had really sweet, helpful waitresses. Fresh, healthy, local food prepared imaginitively and served by friendly, helpful, knowledgeable staff in a relaxing environment make Vee Vee a standby, but something is keeping me from giving them 5 stars. My husband and I agreed we would prefer more in the way of seasoning, and he thought they should pay more attention to texture. Neither of us loads our food with salt or eats chili peppers raw, by the way. But we do tend to spice our food more than they do at Vee Vee. Aside from this quibble, we really enjoy going to Vee Vee. read more

Five of us went to dinner here, having been referred by Ten Tables down the street. The food was excellent. The appetizers included squash blossoms stuffed with ricotta and two other interesting dishes. I had the miso glazed halibut and my wife had the spice-rubbed steak. Both were excellent. I have mixed feelings about visiting Vee Vee last night with my boyfriend. I found them on Yelp beforehand and was searching pretty quickly for a place to grab dinner. I was under the impression that they were strictly vegetarian and was surprised when I entered when I noticed lamb, pork, and chicken on the menu. Were not vegetarians so this wasn't really any issue. They did offer some vegan/vegetarian options on the menu which was great. We started off with the shrimp and scallop cakes which were perfectly crisp, the chipotle aioli was absolutely delicious. I had the potato gorditas and my boyfriend had the couscous. The gorditas were so flavorful and spicy. My boyfriend said the couscous was rather bland and was hoping for more of a flavor kick. Overall, i'd definitely head back its a great little spot to have in the neighborhood and definitely want to try the Vegan Wednesdays Pre-Fixe menu. read more

VeeVee is definitely one of my favorite restaurants in Boston (And it's not just because I live in JP). The food is delicious. I have eaten there likely 20 times or more at this point and I've always left feeling like I had a great dinner. I always remember the meals that I have there. That's saying a lot I think, especially because I can be critical about food at times. The prices are fair and the staff are very friendly and knowledgeable about what they are serving. The atmosphere is intimate and well decorated. It is a small restaurant and typically busy so put your name on the list in advance on busy weekend nights. I especially like the fish dishes there. They have a small bar area but a nice selection of craft beers and wines. Good for a date or with a small gathering with friends (3-4 people). read more

So I am writing a review since I come here a lot but haven't been for awhile. I am very excited that i'm meeting my very good friend and going there tomorrow night. Having Veevee in walking distance of my house is one of the best things about living in Jamaica Plain. First the place has great energy. The orange walls, the beautiful plant sculpture on the wall, the small intimate way everything is arranged makes me feel like I"m dining in a beautiful and intimate setting and even though they may not know me by name I feel like they recognize me and are always friendly. AND THE FOOD is fit for foodies like me. i love the fried mushrooms and the salad with the egg on top. It is equally amazing for dinner and for brunch. I always feel fortunate to get a seat there; sometimes if you don't have reservations they won't let you in but they really try to accommodate. Even at the bar I have had great conversations with the bartenders there and one especially is a fellow dog lover. I love the fried oysters and almost everything I have had there is fantastic. read more

Our family ate here once during a week we spent in Jamaica Plain. The food just blew us away, it was so tasty and unique. For such a tiny place, they do a great job. We were very pleasantly surprised and would definitely eat there again if we were in the area. One other draw for me is the draft beer selection - always interesting choices including many good, local brews. Typically delicious vegetarian/vegan options available. We have been fans of this neighborhood restaurant since it opened 10 years ago. Family owned and operated, Vee Vee's menu changes with the seasons (but only slightly), and offers limited choices, but nearly all offerings are delicious and consistently so and they use locally sourced produce when possible. To supplement the regular menu they have specials on most nights, and these display the same creativity and quality control of the regular menu. On our most recent visit we each had a few oysters (always first rate and served with Vee Vee's own icy yuzu mignonette) and shared a salad special of half a head of crispy romaine with a blue cheese and bacon dressing. We then split the entree special, a unique rendering of Cajun grits and perfectly cooked shrimp served with homemade andouille sausage. It was one of the most delicious dishes I have ever eaten. They have a short but carefully chosen wine list and Dan, the bartender of the owner duo, is a beer afficionado and goes out of his way to search out interesting micro-brews (tasting rafts are always offered). Their desserts are excellent, but we seldom have room. Michelin would rate Vee Vee "worth a detour". If you're in the vicinity, don't miss out on this friendly and exceptional restaurant. read more

Went here with my girlfriend and we were very impressed. We ordered the Littleneck Clams, Roasted Chicken, and Gorditas. Everything was absolutely delicious. I was especially impressed by the gorditas because it had a bunch of different things paired excellently together in regards to both taste and texture. Additionally, the pricing was reasonable for the quality ($72 with tip for 2). I would definitely recommend this restaurant. read more
