I was disappointed by this restaurant. The waitress seemed put off by the fact that we were there. She gave us the menu and almost immediately looked to take our order. I asked for more time so we could make a decision. Her response was that the kitchen closes at 7:30. It was 6:30. What restaurant closes at 7:30? The restaurant had plenty of seating. The menu was limited. I ordered rice as an entree which was served with two fried drum sticks and plantain. What restaurant lists rice as an entree? I thought I was charged a lot for what I got. The prices were high. I paid with cash. The woman took my money and never brought me my change. I had to ask for it. I think when you pay the bill, they should complete the transaction by returning the change soon after. The conversation with the person I was with saved the meal. I would not recommend. read more

Wanted to like this place so much, the jollof tastes like zatarans or instant rice with spices just added to it, it wasn't good. The meat was super tough, like left overs heated up and sold to me, the egusi was cold, and so was the fufu, and on top of all that, customer service was bad! The venue is dark and not pleasant, doesn't look the cleanest, so taking the food to go was the only option just to get to my destination and realize the food was what I just described. I fell in love with African food especially the soups while working with some very still apart of the motherland Nigerians and I have loved them so much for bringing there culture into my life. Obosa is my all-time favorite place to get my Egusi Soup when I am craving african soup. Plenty of other choices. I'm a GrubHub driver and stop by frequently for pickup and delivery. Last night, they gave me some of their puff-puffs to try. They said it was like donut holes. They were so good! It was the same texture as Okinawan andagi, but the taste was a little different. If you want an alternative to regular donuts with your coffee, I highly recommend these. went there yesterday to try something or should I say a different restaurant other than Suya Joint and I guess I need to stick with what I know because I ended up throwing the majority of it away too spicy for my taste when I told it wouldn't be and just the flavor wasn't very good like I said buy through the majority of it away, so I just totally wasted my money but everybody's taste buds are different so those people who think it's good maybe you've never tried another place but I won't be returning. Food was great! The food however, took ridiculously long to come out and I'm talking about 45+ mins to come out. Got there at 2:05 and didn't eat until almost 3 so there's that. The service itself was underwhelming. We had to keep calling them to come over because they weren't checking on us at all. Lastly the food itself was delicious !!! So if you're ever willing to try it (which you really should) definitely go just not on an empty stomach. Also, they serve pounded yam with every dish and they give you the option for "water or utensils" the water is for you to use your hands while eating which is their traditional way of eating which I absolutely loved! You definitely feel like you're getting the whole experience. I got the vegetable stew (spinach, peppers, onions) with your choice of meat and It was amazing. So in conclusion: The food was great and so was the presentation. I really, really wanted to love Obosa. I read the Globe article and the positive yelp reviews, so I had high expectations. We started with the vegetable pepper soup, which was the frozen broccoli and bean mix from Star Market with a pepper broth. Not good. We ordered the Jolloff rice with beef, chicken, moi moi, spinach and grilled plantains. The chicken was fine, but the beef was a dried out puck. Moi moi was good, spinach was good. Grilled plantains were cold and tough. Rice tasted like Zatarains. Maybe this restaurant has fallen on hard times with the pandemic and has made some ingredient substitutions since the other reviews were left. Or, perhaps there are other menu items that are good. I am convinced this food was leftover and not cooked fresh. They gave me 2 pieces of goat meat, which I paid extra for,how modest! The goat meat was hard and dark brown and lacked flavor. They gave me a crap load of rice, what was I supposed to eat with all that rice, that tiny portion of dry meat? I called to complain and the woman who answered the phone told me she cooked the food fresh herself. LIES. I can tell leftovers from fresh. This was an Uber eats order, so fortunately, I was given my $$ back. The owner didn't offer to replace it, when I called to complain about the food quality. Serving leftovers can cause food poisoning. When I pay for food and extra for meat, I expect fresh, hot delicious food, decent portion of food. Not the opposite. Needless to say, I will never order from here again. Also the reviews is why I took a chance. The rice was also greasy. Yuck! I only ordered from here, because the ratings were very good. Managed to get there before CV shut down in-restaurant dining. Tried the meat patties, the puff puff and the first rice dish on the menu w chicken; it was all delicious! A joyous ambiance, friendly wait staff, and everyone seemed quite happy with the food and to be there. Very Low key spot in Roslindale, parking is a bit hard to find but esteem worth it. I ordered the Okra stew with goat meat and pound Yam. Super flavorful, good portion size. If you're not a fan of Okra go with the Banga stew. You can let them how spicy you want it. I would recommend this spot, customer service is amazing, the place is super warm. read more

I write this review after my second take-out (due to covid) dinner with Obosa - and it's just so, so good. The jollof rice is fabulous (my six year old exclaimed- "i love that rice!" and helped herself to a huge scoop). The chicken with it is incredible - these two big legs, that I'm thinking must be fried lightly? (I know nothing about cooking, but it was a touch crispy on the outside and so juicy in the middle). We also got sides of spinach, which are ridiculously flavorful. The pepper soup is just that - a fantastic, peppery soup! I got the vegetable one, so it was loaded with vegetables. The clear broth is so tasty. Also grilled and fried plantains (cuz you know, why not both?) and again, I rave. My husband and I were so happy with our orders. If I had to describe the food in two words it would be hearty and flavorful. We ordered Jollof rice and okro stew and couldn't be happier with the meal. One caviot is that some of the dishes had a bit of a kick to them if your are sensitive to heat. I sampled different dishes for my first takeout order...jollof rice with chicken drumsticks, stir fried spinach, moi moi, and a sausage roll. The rice was fluffy and flavorful, the chicken was nicely seasoned, the moi moi reminded me of a tasty tamale, and the sausage roll was a perfect savory appetizer. This place is great! I had been wanting to try Nigerian-style food for a while, and this was an excellent introduction to it. We got the chicken jollof rice with plantains (delicious) and the vegetarian option of beans with fried plantains (delicious). The vegetable pepper soup was also really good, and I appreciated the very friendly staff's help confirming the ingredients for the vegetarians in the family. My first visit to Obosa' was this afternoon, I ordered the Jollof rice with spinach & African yams - and in a word the meal was OUTSTANDING, so much so that I telephoned Obosa' immediately after tasting my dish to give compliments to the chef/owner. The location is perfect with ample parking; the restaurant atmosphere is spacious and visually pleasing; and the staff were all very professional and friendly.
