Five stars for Dr. Sean Yoshimoto. Dr. Yoshimoto is not only kind and extremely knowledgeable, but he is also not a money-driven doctor. He truly cares about our pets and our feelings as pet parents. Even though my heart was completely broken after hearing that my beloved has a very aggressive cancer, I still want to sincerely thank Dr. Yoshimoto. Despite his very full schedule, he squeezed us in for a CT scan appointment, which meant so much to our family. After reviewing the CT scan, he knew that what was in my baby's nose was not something good. Instead of performing an unnecessary procedure, he made the honest decision not to proceed and even refunded us over $1,600. That speaks volumes about his integrity and character. He is truly a doctor with a great heart. We really wish there were more doctors like you in this world--it would absolutely make the world a much better place. We previously had very bad experiences at another emergency pet hospital, but VCA ASEC gave us a more-than-5-star experience. We also met Dr. E during our ER visit, and she was incredibly kind and knowledgeable as well. Thank you, doctors. CobyBean is so lucky to have met you in his life. We are beyond grateful. I truly hope my daughter can one day become a wonderful veterinarian like you all. Thank you

VCA ASEC saved my bulldog's life! Splash had an obstruction thanks to her habit of exploring the world through taste. She had abdominal surgery requiring multiple incisions in her digestive tract at another hospital, and it failed and ruptured internally on the third day of recovery, sadly not utterly unexpected. The contents of her stomach and intestines were leaking into her abdomen, making it septic. The other hospital discovered this whilst I was visiting, confessed the needed surgery was beyond their capability and sent me to VCA ASEC. I'm so glad they did! Only an hour and change later, board certified surgeon Dr. Sroufe arrived and completed what he later told me was a "pretty gnarly surgery", removing unviable tissue, resectioning her intestines, cleaning out the infectious goo from her abdomen to put poor Spash's digestive system back together. Splash had an extremely long recovery time in hospital, several weeks. Her poor insides had been through a lot and stomach motility had stopped. She regurgitated (something very familiar to bulldog owners), aspirated, and caught pneumonia. She was in and out of the oxygen cage and required a GI tube for feeding and aspiration of fluid build up in her very slow tummy, and for a while an abdominal drain. She was on IV meds for darn near everything. For a while, she was on IV fluids, but then had edema and needed treatment for that; another familiar thing to the breed. It was ages before she was out of the woods. Each and every step of the way, for days, the team was kind, compassionate and patient with both her and us. Doctors Tovar, Spurlock, Regalado, Ixtlahuac, Judge and Ong all at one point of another took care of Splash and communicated with us in person or over the phone. Tovar, Spurlock and Regalado made a point of calling us with updates once and often twice a day; they would even take time to keep Splash with them around the hospital, to ensure she was able to keep her emotional state up. Both my husband and myself were always made welcome on our daily visits to see Splash. Each visit, the doctor on shift would come and fill us in and answer all our questions. We always felt they cared about both us and Splash. If we called, someone would ALWAYS call back within an hour or two. The techs and nurses were also amazing. They were invested in doing the best they could for Splash and helping her survive and live. They even took time to pet her and comfort her. When she was able, they took her out of her kennel for play and walkies. Everyone she passed when I was there would greet her by name with a cheerful voice. The total care for her entire time there was expensive. That's around the clock board and care, medication, oxygen cage, food, IV placement and replacement when the vein blew (which is a fact of life; eventually, you need to move to another vein.) repeated scans throughout her stay such as x rays and ultrasounds and blood/fluid tests to see how her recovery was progressing, treatment for edema, and more. Critical hospital care for much of the month of July. This is not unusual or a rip off of any sort. We have no pet insurance, as bulldogs are expensive to insure, and that's what it cost. The finance department were very clear about charges, and gave us a high and low estimate, letting us know that anything not used would be refunded or used as credit for the next period we pre-paid for. They were patient as we did our best to gather funds from our savings, credit, and eventually a GoFundMe. They worked WITH us to ensure we could continue, as everyone could see she was fighting and not ready to die. Without them, I would have lost the sweetest dog in the world! Now she is home and nearly back to herself, playing, snoring like a bear and demanding treats and butt scratches.

I was referred to Dr. Somerville by my vet to do a high risk surgery on my kitty. In the words of my vet "I would trust Dr. Somerville with my life". That's all I needed to hear. I called a few times to schedule a consultation prior to the surgery and that was the only difficult part of the experience, finding time to schedule since the Dr. is only there a few days a week. But honestly what was an anxious and stressful experience was tempered by the professionalism and care of VCA ASEC. Everyone was friendly and compassionate and took the time to answer my questions. I got frequent updates, a treatment plan, and went home with my kitty (who was miserable because of the cone) but in good spirits. I appreciated the communication and care that they provided. It came with a hefty price tag but that is because you're paying for the quality and expertise. I want to thank everyone there for all the hard work they do and I'm so grateful to have been referred there.

This was my first time here, and the staff and Dr.Brittany Shuster, DVM was amazing, she really cared about my dog wellbeing. I was really worried about my sweet dog Rex, but she assure that whatever it is we will figure it out. Thank you again to the team and Dr. Brittany, as you can see in the photo my baby is resting

I've taken the last 3+ months to reflect back on everything that happened to my dog who was being treated at VCA ASEC in the months leading up to her passing. I can't directly fault ASEC for any of the care that they provided (I think) but I also can't say that I know exactly know what happened in the areas where they take our pets after we meet with the doctor. My dog had Cushings Disease which is very common for her breed and she was being treated with the appropriate medication for a number of months. We went in for monthly lab work in April and when they brought her out from the back something was very, very wrong. I told them that while I was still there but I couldn't get any answers and they were basically like, we did what you came here for and time for you to go. I would mention that this VCA location is also an ER. Later that night, we took her to the ER down the block from ASEC (the big white ER bldg at 1900 S. Sepulvida) and they diagnosed a stroke. I have to say that the doctors at the ER (big white Bldg) were beyond lovely and helpful. They gave me a number to text them about any changes. They called me throughout the week that followed to discuss changes, developments and food. They really got us through that first week. The bill for 1 night at the ER was approx $11K. We had to give her 4-5, maybe 6, medications and one of them cost $1,800 and that was from Costco! Never heard a word from ASEC. Not a peep. While we were at the ER they requested all of her records from ASEC so there was some communication but, to what extent, I don't know. We spent the next few months nursing her back to health and being somewhat in denial about the bigger picture. I also had her examined at True Pet in the valley but we never got very far as we had another emergency about 3 months later. Btw, True Pet also requested records from ASEC. Late one Saturday night, we had no idea what was happening to our dog so we took her back to the ER (big white bldg). They said it might take days to diagnose her and that she might not survive that period. We knew we didn't want her to die alone in a metal crate so we did what we believed was the humane and unselfish thing to do even though it absolutely crushed us to have to do it. We're still recovering from her passing. I did an enormous amount of research and it is clear to me that she went into congestive heart failure. All of the symptoms were spot on from what I read. I never heard anything from ASEC except a call to make another appointment (for a dog who was no longer alive). I composed a brief email telling them that she had passed away and that I never heard anything from them. So here's the bottom line. I guess what we're all seeing is the corporatization of the veterinary business and I don't mean that in a nice way. I'm old enough to remember when you had a family vet who handled all of your pet's issues. There were no specialists. One guy/gal did it all. They called you. They stayed in touch. They helped you. They cared. My advice is to find a smaller vet office where there is more personal attention and where they actually communicate with each other in the office. You can use one of the larger 24/7 ER's as emergencies arise. I've refrained from using the names of any doctors as well as the name of my dog. The point of this review is not to assess blame. I want to caution other pet owners that they need to make conscious decision about what kind of care they want from their vet over the life of your furry loved one and to choose your vet carefully. We live in a rapidly changing world and much of it is not for the better. As for us, we are really missing our baby. She was a total lover. I live in a building filled with somewhat remote people yet one neighbor broke into tears when I told her what happened. Another one hugged me in the elevator. I couldn't believe it! Our girl loved everyone and everyone loved her. She went everywhere with us, traveled with us and lived a great life. In the end, I guess that's the best we could ask for. If you read this, give your fur babies a kiss for me tonight.

I cannot say enough positive things about Dr. Downing and the oncology department. We brought our dog Cabo to VCA when he was diagnosed with lymphoma because they came highly recommended from multiple friends who had their dogs treated for cancer there as well (I work with the rescue dog community). They squeezed us in as his condition was urgent and he was declining rapidly and had been placed on a feeding tube. When we arrived everyone at the front desk knew his name and was expecting us. Dr Downing saved his life and gave us another wonderful month with him despite how advanced his cancer was. He was his old self for that time, and her focus was always on ensuring quality of life. Her entire team was so caring and compassionate which made all the difference during such a difficult time. He actually loved his appointments and would start wagging his tail when we pulled into the parking lot. We're incredibly grateful to the entire team at VCA. They're in a class of their own.

Another great experience at ASEC! I brought in my dog Spike for an abdominal ultrasound with Dr. Laurel Krause. She was able to answer my questions and was able to give me the peace of mind I needed. Can't thank her enough.

Dr. Ziegler was incredibly caring in treating My Yogi who was terminally ill. She helped keep him comfortable and helping him go in peace. Grateful for you!

What can I say? There's so much to share about the incredible team at VCA ASEC, especially Dr. Downing and the entire oncology department. When our little Arthur was diagnosed with lymphoma, my wife and I were devastated. We researched tirelessly to find the best care for him, and we were fortunate to have Dr. Downing as his oncologist. I cannot stress enough how important it is to have a doctor who truly listens, is extremely knowledgeable, and is both kind and soothing during such a difficult time. Dr. Downing embodies all these qualities, and her entire team was incredibly special to us as we navigated this journey with Arthur. A special mention goes to Steph, who was absolutely amazing. She made us feel like family, showing kindness and being readily available whenever we needed support, whether to communicate, answer questions, or just be there when we called. Although this experience was incredibly challenging, the oncology department made it so much easier. Their love for animals is palpable, and they never disregarded our concerns. We never felt rushed, even though they are so very busy saving all the animals they care for. I wholeheartedly recommend VCA ASEC for any medical issue, big or small. They are simply the best, and I will be forever grateful for the care they provided to Arthur.

One thing I will say is getting my dog back was hell. I called ahead of time to let them know I want her back, waited there for an hour. Mind you she is my service dog and she was screaming in the back the entire time. Yet, the staff told me to wait.. they were busy.. Yessi one of the vet techs even came out and basically yelled at me in front of people in the lobby. Again, they have my service dog in the back who's stressing and not working and I'm stressing and probably need her to work because I was actually in medical emergency. I ended up going to the emergency room myself that night for the day I had.. I digress.. eventually the manager came out with my dog and apologized for not bringing her out sooner since she is a working dog but the damage was done. I am very grateful for the vet at mash and i am torn that it ended in Chaos.. Getting my dogs test results emailed to me was also hell, I was told they will only give it to another vet.. very very odd behavior. My dog, my money for the test and I had to basically pry it from them.. I don't understand what happened after I wanted my dog back that made them make everything a mess but..still.. If you're here trying to figure out if you should bring your pet here, yes. I recommend them. They will be honest and save your pet.. at a high price.. Maybe that whole day wasn't my day. Maybe that's the price I paid to get honest answers and to be told my dogs not gonna die. Either way, the vet was honest and that is more than we can ask for these days when it comes to vet care. I waited another 20 minutes, asked again -- same exact answer from the same exact lady and in 10 or 15 more minutes I stormed towards the area where they keep the dogs and that same madame goes you cant go in there. i exploded on her and demanded they get me my my dog right now. turned out they heavily sedated him without my consent to give him the medicine. he could not walk and looked sleepy for hours. I understand that my dog can be difficult but.. a. consent. b. tell me what's going on! i could have just went home and came back when he was ready if the lady did her job instead of gossiping and laughing with her coworkers. I can understand and forgive many circumstances but this isnt the way to keep the repeat business. our insurance carrier paid about 15k for a few visits. I also saw a poor old lady who was charged 5k to diagnose her dying cat and I had to translate for her. No matter how much I tried to help they wouldnt budge. She couldnt believe that. That was her 2 social security checks. She weeped, she cursed them and threw the credit card at. This kind of treatment deserves the hottest chamber in hell, and I genuinely hope they shut down in the most humiliating way.

Dr. Goodman was extremely thorough and took the time to clearly explain my dog's diagnosis and treatment plan, while also providing additional care options. After my dog injured his leg, we are only two days into medication and rest, and he is already showing noticeable improvement. The office itself is clean, welcoming, and well maintained. Although I didn't catch her name, the staff member who assisted with estimates and payment plans was wonderful and very helpful throughout the CareCredit application process. I am especially grateful to Dr. Goodman for following up the next day to check on how Coco was doing and to review his X-rays. Thank you to Dr. Goodman and the entire team for such compassionate and excellent care.

She interrupted me rudely and said, "I'm not the one you spoke to," when all I was trying to do was get copies of my dog's records. I spent almost $1,700 here for my dog's pneumonia treatment, and unfortunately it did not help at all. They kept my dog for 5 hours, and after everything, I still had to bring her to a different hospital so she could get proper care. There was also a problem with my dog's prescription. They prescribed a medication that wasn't even available until Monday. I was honestly willing to let that pass because I understand things happen, but the rude attitude from the receptionist was too much. I understand vet hospitals can get busy, but clients who are worried about their pets deserve compassion, professionalism, and proper communication -- especially after spending that much money. Very disappointed with both the service and the overall experience.

Since my last review (where our dog Peanut had a near-fatal overdose of dark chocolate and was saved by Dr. Salpi and team)... we've had a few more unfortunate emergency run-ins with our precious pit bull. First, our doggy was attacked in our own home and while she did her best to put up a fight and protect me... she was left very badly wounded. The hospital was nearly closing and Dr. Salpi immediately washed her wounds and gave the clearance for an emergency surgery next AM with Dr. Dhillon (who very kindly squeezed us in during his hectic work day). Turns out washing the wounds immediately just as Dr. Salpi did helped prevent very serious infections! The surgery was a great success and this staff treated Peanut like their very own. They gave her so much love, care, lots of hugs and kisses and frequently updated me on her recovery. We wanted to wait a few months until Peanut healed to spay her (as my husband and I had heard about pyometra risk)... low and behold the same month we had planned her spay surgery, Peanut had life-threatening pyometra. We could tell she was off and brought her in as soon as possible... Dr. Dhillon once again went above and beyond in her surgery. He even stayed extra to make sure we could squeeze her in before it was too late (and before she went into sepsis). So Peanut got prophylactic antibiotics before her surgery. This was something she tolerated well in the past but apparently the second exposure could have a reaction (which Peanut did). I am told she had very severe anaphylactic shock to the antibiotic, had a seizure and the staff feared her life. All the staff there that day teamed together in "code" fashion to give her supportive care and bring her back to. They monitored her very closely and ensured she was a-okay updating me thoroughly after this incident. It felt so good to know my previous angel was in the absolute best hands. Not only is this team highly professional and caring, I am certain they deeply care for each and every one of our babies like their own. I am so glad and thankful I found this place because it saved my Peanut's life not once... not twice... but three times now in very unfortunate freak accidents. Peanut must've been a cat in another life because so far she's had 9 lives thanks to McGrath Vet center and this team. And I promise we have a watchful eye on her, she's just got a lot of bad luck this year :( she is now thriving (prep fairy costume) we love you Peanut! We love you Dr. Dhillon, Dr. Salpi, Dr. McGrath and the whole team at McGrath vet. Thanks a million!!!

Visited Glendora Emergency initially out of concern of the low Yelp rating for Access. Glendora did the bloodwork and X-rays, and prescribed metronidazole. The first 5 days on the med suggests she's getting better. However, the symptoms returned a week later and she stopped eating for 3 days. We then visited Access. Same initial process (bloodwork, X-ray). Finding nothing, and to pursue the root cause, ultrasound is suggested as it's the next step in the process. Like many I was hesitant at first. Symptoms continued so I brought her back the next day for IV treatment and ultrasound. Early evening I contacted Access and was expecting another diagnostic recommendation. But to my suprise they identified the root cause, acute pancreatitis. I was so relieved and grateful for their efforts. I thought the metronidazole caused my pet to stop eating, but the Dr took a bigger picture approach and was able to ID the root cause. Appetite enhancer, pain med, and probiotics were prescribed. And in both visits, refunds were issued for some of the estimates which was already paid. This demonstrates some level of honesty and integrity. Within a week, the symptoms began to subside. The stool went from black to brown, watery to soft and now solid. No more vomits or pain. The experience improved my perspective and opinion on vets. Yes, you may find out what the issue is through googling, but they still have a process to follow to identify and confirm the issue. In the end, it's all worth it.

As many rescues that we've had and have helped to cross the bridge, I can honestly say it never gets easier.
