Back here to write much deserved review for Dr. Dhillon, Mr. Serge, Dr. Salpi, and the whole McGrath team! Since my last review (where our dog Peanut had a near-fatal overdose of dark chocolate and was saved by Dr. Salpi and team)... we've had a few more unfortunate emergency run-ins with our precious pit bull. First, our doggy was attacked in our own home and while she did her best to put up a fight and protect me... she was left very badly wounded. The hospital was nearly closing and Dr. Salpi immediately washed her wounds and gave the clearance for an emergency surgery next AM with Dr. Dhillon (who very kindly squeezed us in during his hectic work day). Turns out washing the wounds immediately just as Dr. Salpi did helped prevent very serious infections! The surgery was a great success and this staff treated Peanut like their very own. They gave her so much love, care, lots of hugs and kisses and frequently updated me on her recovery. We wanted to wait a few months until Peanut healed to spay her (as my husband and I had heard about pyometra risk)... low and behold the same month we had planned her spay surgery, Peanut had life-threatening pyometra. We could tell she was off and brought her in as soon as possible... Dr. Dhillon once again went above and beyond in her surgery. He even stayed extra to make sure we could squeeze her in before it was too late (and before she went into sepsis). So Peanut got prophylactic antibiotics before her surgery. This was something she tolerated well in the past but apparently the second exposure could have a reaction (which Peanut did). I am told she had very severe anaphylactic shock to the antibiotic, had a seizure and the staff feared her life. All the staff there that day teamed together in "code" fashion to give her supportive care and bring her back to. They monitored her very closely and ensured she was a-okay updating me thoroughly after this incident. It felt so good to know my previous angel was in the absolute best hands. Not only is this team highly professional and caring, I am certain they deeply care for each and every one of our babies like their own. I am so glad and thankful I found this place because it saved my Peanut's life not once... not twice... but three times now in very unfortunate freak accidents. Peanut must've been a cat in another life because so far she's had 9 lives thanks to McGrath Vet center and this team. And I promise we have a watchful eye on her, she's just got a lot of bad luck this year :( she is now thriving (prep fairy costume) we love you Peanut! We love you Dr. Dhillon, Dr. Salpi, Dr. McGrath and the whole team at McGrath vet. Thanks a million!!! read more

Right after Thanksgiving we were putting up our Christmas tree, and I noticed the ornaments for Pepper and Blue who are no longer with us. Seeing their paw prints reminded me of everything we have been through and how grateful I am for the care my pets received at McGrath Veterinary Center. That moment made me want to write this review for Serge, Dr. Salpi, and Dr. Dhillon and the rest of the team. Blue passed away earlier this year from a sudden case of GVD. He was only six and completely healthy. I had been playing ball with him the night before, and there were no signs anything was wrong. He passed within a couple of hours while I was at work, and I never saw any signs of his struggle. It is something I still think about, and I know that if he had shown even one sign, I would have taken him straight to McGrath because I trust these three more than anyone. I ended up taking him in anyway and they were able to confirm it was most likely GVD. It didn't make the pain hurt any less but at least I knew it wasn't something that can effect my other two dogs and that there wasn't much I can do unless I was there when he started showing symptoms. Pepper's passing was different, and McGrath helped me through every step. When she slowed down at thirteen, they found late stage osteosarcoma. It was heartbreaking, but they explained everything clearly and kindly. They gave me every option and helped me understand the situation without ever pushing me. When it was time to say goodbye, they treated Pepper with dignity and treated me with compassion. They even made a Christmas ornament with her paw, and seeing it every year brings comfort to our family. I still have sheepie and Red, and both of them love visiting McGrath. Last year I brought Red in because he is a German Shorthaired Pointer and he stayed bony no matter what I tried. After a thorough exam they determined he simply has a huge appetite and an incredibly fast metabolism. He is still skinny and costing me a fortune to feed but he's a goofball and we've grown to love him. He's also one of the most energetic dogs I have ever seen and a super lovy dovy boy. Sheepie has only needed simple visits, mostly for pets and reassurance. Once I thought she had a small mole on her abdomen, but it turned out to be a bit of gunk that was stuck to her skin. They checked her gently, cleaned her up, and sent us home with peace of mind. McGrath Veterinary Center is more than a clinic. It is a place filled with people who care deeply, who guide you through the hardest moments, and who celebrate the happy ones with you. I am incredibly thankful for everything they have done for my pets and my family. If you want a veterinary team you can trust with your whole heart, this is the place. read more

I called on a Saturday because my 14 year old dog was acting really off with an increased respiratory rate. They were able to give me an appointment same day, but the vet almost immediately noticed she was added to the schedule and called to see if I wanted to come in earlier as an emergency due to the age and symptoms. Everyone was incredibly kind throughout the entire process and clearly communicated with me. The entire office (waiting room and exam rooms) are very nice and clean. My little Mousey is a curious ball of positive energy all the time; but she can turn into a kindergartener on the first day of school when she is approached by a group of humans, all saying hi at once. She's a Ter-hua-hua. But she had no problems at McGrath's for her first check-up. Everyone was nice and receptive. Everyone in reception was smiling and helpful and one in particular, Dalia, really loves doggy feet... Mousey almost forgot she came with me! But really, the team there (Lily, Melissa, Serge, even Dr. McGrath to name a few) work pretty well together it seems; and they love animals. I'm definitely gonna switch over and go there now. I went to this vet for 5 1/2 yrs. when I got my sweet rescue dog. My main vet there was Dr. Miller. I just had to put my sweet girl down as her heart gave out. Been coming here for years and it used to be very good. Now that they've gotten much larger, there are many disconnects. For example, my dog had surgery today and they said to come between 2:30 & 3pm to get her. I arrived at 2:50 and wound up waiting for 45 minutes. Plus, they were supposed to have drops ready for our cat. We reminded them this morning when we dropped off our dog and then again at around 1pm when we checked on our dog. Guess what? I had to come here a few times when my normal vet was booked up. Overall I'd say everyone was friendly and helpful. My dog has had a lingering ear infection that's taking a bit longer to heal up, but what I appreciated was the 10% on the first visit and that they didn't charge me for the exam when I had to go back a third time within a month and a half for the same issue. Their prices are a tad high compared to my normal vet, but I'm grateful to have a reliable back up because making a short notice appt is much easier here than my normal vet which gets booked up pretty quickly. Even though I wouldn't say the three visits I had solved the issue with my dog, their treatments have helped get the issue under control and all I truly care about is that my dog feels better. read more

Admittedly I'm wary when going to the vet, especially a new vet. Like most, if not all pet parents, I've had my share of iffy or just plain bad experiences with various veterinarians over the course of my cats' nine lives, but this review is going to be about a GOOD experience, so get ready, and stay tuned! Today, I was feeling overly anxious, mostly because I was running late, and I hate being late, and also because I was told that if I was over 15 mins late I would have to reschedule my appointment; that would really throw my week off since I'm in the middle of moving. So, of course, today happened to be THE DAY that Munchino decided to literally claw & CHEW his way out of the carrier while I was on the freeway. He was scared coz he's not used to being in the car, so, he basically climbed me and my face like a tree while burrowing his head into my neck! I had to exit the freeway, find a safe place to pull over, park, then wrangle 2 of my cats into the larger carrier coz they're closer in size, and then I had to put Mr. Big Boy Munchino into the other fully-intact cat carrier, and I secured the zippers with a spare shoelace I found in the backseat. When I called McGrath's and told the receptionist what happened, she made sure we were all safe, then asked if I could get there by 3pm. I checked my GPS and said I'd be there just in time. She said, "Drive safe and see you soon!" I was a confused when I parked behind McGrath's because I don't think there's a back entrance. I didn't see any signs directing me where to go, so I sort of wandered around the back parking lot before going around front. When I entered McGrath's, I immediately noticed how clean and organized the front office is, and I felt more at ease. One of the ladies in front took me and my 3 gatitos into an exam room right away, and I was so grateful that I'd be able to stay with my kiddos during the exam. Due to Covid-19, I got used to most vets' offices not allowing owners inside to be with their pets, and it seems like a lot of them permanently switched to operating that way, which has never really set well with me, so this was a very welcomed change! Personally, I feel much less anxious when I can be in the room and know what's going on. I was really pleased with the way that the exams for both of my senior kitties were handled; I felt that the exams were very thorough, and all my questions were answered and explained with enough detail so that I had the complete picture of what was going on with my cats. A few months ago, I took Reno to another vet due to some weird black stuff I noticed around his claws; the other vet barely even looked at his paws and said it was "probably just dirt." Yes. Dirt caked on my indoor-only cat's claws. My cat who never digs in the soil of any indoor plants. That makes perfect sense. Just kidding. Anyways. My experience at McGrath's was nothing like that! Reno was thoroughly examined, the vet asked about his grooming habits, and straight away, I was told that Reno most likely had a fungal infection around his claws if he was not grooming himself fastidiously, and that he would need a shot of antibiotics that would stay in his system for about 2 weeks along with some take-home antibacterial wipes for his paws and claws that I was supposed to use every day. It is such a relief to finally know what's up with his paws! And my 11.5 yr old, tiny (5lbs) Siamese girl Frankie was handled gently and told what a pretty girl she is. She must have liked that, because she allowed the vet to examine her. I'm concerned because Frankie has been showing signs of hyperthyroidism, but unfortunately the bloodwork for that test is way out of my price range and the office doesn't do payment plans. If I can recall, I was quoted approx $550 for just the thyroid test. The vet also showed me Frankie's back molars and gums, which were a bit inflamed, and advised me to be more diligent in looking after her teeth. Later, through my own reading, I learned that cats with hyperthyroidism can have inflamed, sensitive gums. *To all pet parents of young animals (or really animals of any age), don't be like me and wait until your cat or dog is a senior before you start taking care of their dental health. Dry food is full carbs which can cause sticky plaque and tarter buildup on your cat's teeth, which can lead to painful dental disease and expensive vet bills!* Anyways! Back to our regular programming lolll. McGrath's provides excellent veterinary care, and I would take my cats here in the future if I was still planning on living in the area, but sadly I'm moving. I had an exceptional experience at McGrath Veterinary Center. The service here is truly outstanding by far the best I've ever received for my pets. This place has gone incredibly down hill. Have been coming here with two dogs for nearly a decade and they used to be excellent. Now, they take too many appointments, they can't keep vets long term so you're always seeing different people, and they're pretty careless in what they do (billing mistakes, etc.). My latest experience was them seeing my dog for some allergies, checking her glands, and then somehow my dog is having blood in her stool immediately after gland expression. They claim that it was stress induced from her having been there so long... Maybe they shouldn't have kept her in the back for 45 minutes for a simple gland expression. While this place was convenient and used to be great, I have to implore you to go elsewhere. read more

I'll keep posting this review every time it is taken down as I will not let my dog die in vain. I took my dog here after my dog was diagnosed with diabetes and a UTI and asked for a cushings test. The vet told me that was not necessary as he likely did not have a dual diagnosis. 4 years later my poor baby died from undiagnosed untreated cushings disease. Symptoms of cushings for pet owners and the incompetent vets now that I've put all the puzzle pieces together. Earliest signs: Excessive panting, tremors and fur loss on lower back Then: boughts of hemorrhagic diarrhea (easily fixed with antibiotic) Next signs: diabetes & kidney infection, weight loss that he could not gain back, increased hunger, calcium deposits on skin, stiff legs (watch the videos), dark spots & continued to lose full body hair (this is the point at which I brought my baby to McGrath. End stage (4+ years in) Extreme muscle loss, fat pouch in between shoulders, inability to get up or walk, excessive thirst, fast weight loss. Trust your gut & do your own research. If you think your dog has cushings demand a cushings test. I will forever regret letting the vet talk me out of testing for Cushings when he had all the signs. Shame on this place. read more

Great vet for general and emergency services. Dr.Braunstein is very kind and gentle with my pug. She was able to identify a level 1 heart murmur and UTI. Prescribed antibiotics and advice about monitoring murmur (common with pugs). Staff is professional and personable! Great communication about care instructions and follow up. Another 5-star review for MVC because I love them! Most recently, our 7-month-old puppy was hospitalized here for 3 nights due to pneumonia over Christmas holiday. Despite being closed on Christmas Day, they were still able to hospitalize him and had a technician watching over him 24/7. Our pup was up and down in regards to his stability, and they continued to change their care plan in response to his symptoms/progression. We went to them initially with a pup who could barely walk and looked like he was on death's door. We left with a pup who was basically back to normal and happy to come home and open his Christmas gifts. Without MVC, I am not sure if our Ludo would have survived. This is the second dog of ours that they have saved (they also saved Lucy's life by performing a spleenectomy, see below). Our team this go around was Dr. Dhillon and Dr. Miller. Both were so attentive, caring, and thorough. read more

Brought my pup here twice, once for the kennel cough and once for a broken leg. The vet was incredible both times. Really attentive and kind and open to all kinds of questions. It's really nice to have a place you can fully trust your baby with. The one thing I recommend though is to be aware that they will offer you every possible test to find out what's wrong, and it's up to you to choose. So don't be emotional like me and decide to do all of them because they add up quickly. I paid $921 and did not get the results for days, obviously it takes time for lab test results to return. But I found out from another dog mom my dog had just played with that it's the kennel cough and she had paid 15 dollars at pet smart to find out without any tests. I would still go back to McGrath Veterinary Center, but this time I would ask for one test at a time and which one she recommends first. read more

Hands down the worst veterinary experience I have ever had. I called ahead and was quoted around $500 for a procedure. It seemed reasonable so I decided to bring in both of my dogs and establish service with this clinic. HUGE mistake. Always get it in writing. Instead of doing any of the additional work discussed on the phone, they ran up fees just to take my dogs in, then handed me an $1,100+ quote for the same procedure. That is more than double the original number, and they now deny the $500 quote was ever mentioned. When I voiced my concern, they initially agreed to refund one of the fees. I made clear that was not how I would handle a client situation myself and that I would be leaving a review. Their "business manager" Serge then accused me of extortion for daring to say I would reflect the experience in a review. He then dangled a meager $95 refund. I accepted, but said it would still be reflected in my comments. Instead of honoring even that, Serge and Dr. McGrath revoked the refund entirely, claiming again that standing by my word to leave a review was "extortion." The irony is staggering. They took $190 in "consultation fees," delivered zero value, and doubled the quote once I was in the door. And yet, they are the ones crying foul? As a business owner, I welcome feedback and treat clients with respect. The fact that a veterinarian's office, one that should be dedicated to compassion and care, chooses to gaslight, nickel and dime, and then shame paying customers is appalling. Shame on Dr. McGrath and Serge. They have tarnished their own reputations and, worse, the reputation of their profession. There are countless veterinary offices that provide genuine care with honesty and integrity. This one is not among them. Do yourself and your pets a favor: stay far, far away. read more

This was our dog's primary vet for quite a while, but unfortunately I do not recommend. The location was down the street from our house so it was convenient. But, when it came to our dog's end of life McGrath was NOT helpful at all. They brushed us off when we brought him in, worried that something was wrong. And three weeks later he passed away. The day before he passed we insisted he come into emergency, which they first said no, he wasn't emergent, but I refused and brought him anyways and they immediately sent him to a different emergency room because he was that bad. He passed the next day at an emergency in Studio City. McGrath did not listen to our concerns and I would not bring any other pet there ever again. read more

Avoid this vet. Our 5yo cat unexpectedly started having seizures and ataxia, so we rushed her to McGrath. When the seizures happened, I tried to rule out anything that could be causing it, so I checked her food, and to my horror I realized that I had been mistakenly been feeding her Applaws supplemental salmon/tuna food, which is not a complete diet, and I realized that she was likely malnourished. I made this mistake as Applaws sells *both* complete and supplemental cat foods with very similar branding, and I did not realize the difference. Upon looking into this, I found many studies that exhibit how malnourished cats can experience seizures, ataxia, and other neurological issues. Upon coming in, my husband and I informed Dr. Marino of all of this and asked if she thought that the malnourishment could be what is causing our cat's seizures. Dr. Marino immediately dismissed this, she said it was "unlikely", and we felt that she was being condescending toward us by saying "I always say there's no stupid questions". McGrath kept our cat overnight, ran bloodwork + PCR test, x-rays, stabilized her with anti-seizure medication, and prescribed her Keppra. We paid thousands for this. Afterward, Dr. Marino said they did not know what was causing the seizures and that we needed to take our cat to get an MRI (which can also cost thousands). We inquired again about the nutrient deficiency, and asked if we could test for this, and Dr. Marino said "No, and you'd be wasting your time". So, we brought our cat to a different vet. They did comprehensive bloodwork and ran a fur analysis, and confirmed what we suspected: they determined that our cat was *extremely* deficient in Calcium, Cobalt, Manganese, and had extremely high Mercury levels (due to the Applaws tuna/salmon), all of which are known to contribute to neurological issues/seizures in cats. They also determined that she was low very in iron. They prescribed us supplements and a Mercury detox, got her on high quality food, and weaned her off of the Keppra. This was 3 months ago, and our cat has made a full recovery, is completely healthy, and hasn't had a seizure or any issues since. In addition to this, when we picked up our cat after her overnight stay, they gave us to her in her carrier with a stack of old, used pee pads, and she reeked like pee. We found this to be neglectful and completely unprofessional. read more

It's unfortunate I have to leave another bad review for this establishment. After rectifying a previous bad experience a few years ago, I figured they finally got their act together and got more organized. After bringing in my kitty for some bloodwork, Dr. Miller anxiously suggested I bring her back 3 days later for additional blood work which costed me around $260. Before leaving, I asked the nurse "how long until I should expect the results?" Because the first time, I had to call the office for an update. She told me results should be back within one day. This is on Friday 02/02 at 9AM. On Monday, I didn't hear back and reached out to the office. They told me "it could take longer than a day and we'll leave Dr.Miller a note to call you back, she's back on Wednesday 02/07". Okay, but at this point it is now Saturday 02/10 and there has been no call, no update, no test results. I need to find a new establishment in the area to take my cat. This office is unorganized, unprofessional, and their communication is anything less than efficient. This is such a bummer, and now we have no clue what's going on with my little girl. read more

They are THIEFS! Don't take your pet to this place. . They WITHHOLD your pets results so they can they can perform endless tests and make more money . DR. MCGRATH himself looked at my cat after I brought him back there for the 3 time .He had his blood test already done two days before and straight up LIED to me saying that if this was his cat he would do an X-ray . He had an INFECTION, other vet I took my cat too thank God saw it right away just by looking at the blood test results done at McGrath's. What makes even worse is that I told them that I'm going thru a hard time financially at the moment. They are NOT HONEST. They knew about the infection the day we had the blood test results on Tuesday night and didn't tell me . My cat was properly diagnosed and treated on Friday . They DON'T care for your pet. Please please please if your pet is a patient of McGrath, find ANY other veterinary practice to take them to. Animal loves are worth nothing at McGrath Veterinary Center. First, I like to say I really hate to leave bad reviews!! ( Not that this Veterinary center will seem to care.) I will start with the positive: The front desk personnel are very kind from the time of scheduling your appointment and check-in to check out. As for doctor Medina her bedside manners were 5 rating out of 10. She was sweet and friendly that I will give to her and did take some time out to hear any concerns. However, one of my main concerns that I had to point out to her was that my baby he still has his deciduous teeth that need to be removed. She did not even check his mouth. Once I brought this to her attention she stated " I was going to check his teeth but he would not allow me to open his mouth".. To my recognition I do not remember her evening checking. Ok so I let that slide...... Now thinking back on the experience she seemed very disheveled and even stated " I will be right back I forgot my stethoscope." in the beginning of the appointment.. She even went so far to state she has been doing that all day... Now for the worse part it took approximatively two business days for me to get an estimate back for a neuter procedure and to remove the deciduous teeth. No one ever called me to go over the estimate just sent an email.. The scheduler has called me since 3/28 till todays date 4/19 to schedule the surgery. Sorry but this leaves a bad taste in my mouth for almost $2k you can't call a client and go over the estimate and what will take place for a surgery to me that seems kind of big since the puppy does have adult teeth and baby teeth needing to be pulled. Also, to call for almost a month straight to schedule the appointment makes me believe this vet center is only OUT FOR MONEY... BE AWARE!!!! read more
