The Motorcycle Clinic - Don't let the exterior fool you. They know their stuff and have a great deal of stock.

The Motorcycle Clinic

I was with a group of friends when my chain started to fail on my Versys650.  Left for the ride with it perfectly in spec and it gave up on the way out to Mount Rushmore. So here we were a long way from home looking for a shop that could get me going.  A quick google search directed us to the Motorcycle Clinic.  They said they had the chain I needed in stock and could take care of me that day. I don't judge books by their cover and neither should most.  The exterior has nothing to do with the interior or work in this shop.  As soon as I walked thru the doors I knew I was in the right place.   Popular wear parts for a wide spectrum of bikes.  Tires of all sizes and types.  Cables, pads, gear, fluids, you name it there was something there that would keep you going. We limped my bike to the shop and got there right before lunch.  There was a queue of bikes waiting for service.  Happy customers sitting in the waiting area while their rides were being worked on. While waiting my turn shooting the breeze with fellow riders one of the technicians asked me to come sit on my bike so they could set the chain slack correctly.  Wait what?  I was looking to wait way longer then what it took for them to start working on the bike. I can't guarantee they will bump you to the front of the line but they sure as hell took care of a visitor from another state moving my bike to the side and installing my chain. Pricing was perfect. Parts were on par with what I could get them from anywhere online or storefronts. I wasn't gauged for the labor either.  All things that come to mind when people think of shady shops. I have them saved in my contacts and will stop on my next trip wandering the states. Thanks again gentlemen it was a pleasure meeting you all. Show quoted text

I've been dealing with Derek for a couple of years now. Initially buying parts online. Derek has been patient and gone to great lengths to help with tuning advice as well as finding some custom parts. I'll be posting pictures of the finished project soon, and will say I couldn't have done it without Derek's knowledge and expertise. I highly recommend him as source of advice, knowledge encouragement and parts supply!

That said, despite the above disclaimer, I am nonetheless a fairly difficult customer to impress. My husband and I are control freaks and perfectionists, though goodness knows we WANT to get excited about finding good services. When we brought ourselves and our dual-sports (WR250X/R) to Derek, based on YELP reviews, I quickly got the impression that 1) he was competent and a perfectionist and 2) he'd not worked on our particular bike before. But the latter didn't really phase him. He took my emails with links to online articles in stride and showed us complete respect despite our lack of experience, and at every stage of the way has made us happy with his attitude and his results. He may sometimes question our judgement when we make a request, but he does it for the right reasons, and in the end he'll still humor us if we get stubborn. So far all our adjustments and repairs have made us very happy, and I've no complaint about the cost of his service (though given the above disclaimer, I may just be too clueless to know if he's ripping us off, heh...wait, I didn't just say that). We'll be going back to him for all our future motorcycle repair/mod needs. Knowing that we're done with the search for a good mechanic is a weight off my shoulders. (Regarding the 1* review...am I Derek's friend? Err, probably not. Not that I think he'd be a bad friend, but, um, I'm just a customer.)
