On April 20th and 21st I booked a two day private surf lesson for my son Austin in Ocean City Md! It was for his 17th birthday! His instructor was Tony Pellino whom I first spoke to on the phone almost a month before. In the weeks leading up to my sons session Tony kept in contact with me through email and by phone! I was kind of a pain!! I had lots of questions and he had lots if answers!! Tony was very knowledgeable about surfing! His demeanor was inviting and he was very "STOKED" (a surfing term I have learned ) to meet my son! Three days before Austin's session Tony called to confirm and planned to make the three an half hour trip to Ocean City for ONE surfer client! I was impressed to say the least! On the day of Austin's first lesson a storm had just made its way off the coast and it made for what I now know as surfer perfect conditions! So perfect Tony decided to play it safe for his new surfer client and take the time to teach Austin what to look for and why surfers like these condition, as a storm sits off the coast! Then he showed Austin how to pop up on the surfboard, how to paddle, and every technic he needed to be safe in the water which all took place on the beach!! As the surf calmed down Tony pick the perfect surfing spot and we set up camp to watch the event unfold into a perfect moment for Austin! I did hear him say to my son "You have to Respect the ocean bro." Once they were in the water I could see Austin smiling from ear to ear!! Priceless for my husband and I! I could have cared less if he ever got up on the board but that was not the case! His third run he popped up and rode his first wave for about 30 or 40 feet! I jumped to my feet and was so STOKED!!! I knew then he was hooked and would ask to go to the ocean every weekend from here on out!! Lol! All This and it was only the first day and day two was just as eventful! My favorite part of all this action was the friendship that Austin got to create with Tony whom was very down to earth! Oh yeah and watching my son put on and take off a wet suit! I never laughed so hard in my life!! All in all it was a great weekend with VB Surf Sessions. Thanks Tony for everything and for showing Austin what it means to hang ten!! read more

My husband and I took a 2 hour lesson yesterday with vb surf sessions. It was a great time! There were kids, teenagers and adults in the group lesson - good for all ages! It looked like a large group for lessons but it was well staffed with 1 instructor for every 3 to 4 people. They made sure we all knew how to "pop up" on the board in the sand and reviewed all the safety precautions before getting in the water. The instructors made sure to pair those who came together in the same group. My husband and I had a great time, both of us able to stand up on the board within a few tries. By the end of the lesson I felt like a pro with compliments given by the instructors. They also made sure I ended on a good note, riding the wave all the way in. I would strongly recommend VB Surf Sessions to anyone, any age wanting to learn how to surf! I can't wait to do the stand up paddle boards next! read more

We did the 2 Hour Dolphin Kayak Tour and it was amazing! Our guide Mark was so helpful and also very funny and entertaining, he made sure to take pictures for us and captured some really cool videos of the dolphins for us so we could just enjoy it in the moment. This was a just an overall great experience, we were supplied with everything we needed even including dry bags for our phones. The real highlight though was how close we got to the dolphins. They were so active while we were on the water and it was so cool to be right by them. We saw there were some dolphin tours on boats but I would definitely recommend doing the kayak tour instead, especially if you get to have Mark as a guide! I went to VB Surf Sessions last year for the first time and loved the experience so much I have already taken another lesson from them! The staff is amazing and extremely patient with each student. Within an hour of being on the water Tony had me standing up on a board and surfing and I had never been on a board before! The instructors not only teach you how to properly stand on the board but they also teach you proper surfing etiquette. VB Surf Sessions not only has a great program but the prices are amazing also. We took a group for the 9:00a surf lesson. We had 8, 11 and 12 year old girls, a 7 year old boy and 4 adults ranging from 38-43 in our group. We all had a blast! Chester was a great teacher. He took what could be a really intimidating experience and made it fun for everyone. He also did a great job preparing us for the experience before we got in the water. The emphasis on safety made us very comfortable with the young kids participating. Every one of us got up on our board and rode in. The waves were small, but that was perfect for learning. We cannot wait to go again. We will definitely take more lessons from VB Surf Sessions and highly recommend the outfit. Pop Up! read more

Inquiring about my first lesson at VB Surf Sessions in Dec. 2012, I was obviously apprehensive anyone would offer a thorough lesson at this time of year, but I received a prompt reply from Tony the owner, that they were most definitely available in the off season as well. The surf lesson was by all means one of the best experiences Ive ever had! Gaining not only excellent surfing skills which will last a life time but experiencing excellent thorough service in the off season will ensure I will be back for more. Loved it! We are locals and had a Groupon for it so we lucked out! My son, 12, had Billy as his instructor. Only three kids in the class so they had a lot of individual attention. He did an all day class (9am-3:30ish... I had to pick him up a few minutes early because we had other obligations) they took several breaks to rehydrate and rest when needed. They set up a tent to keep them out of the boiling sun and even required the kids to re-apply sunscreen! A mothers dream! Croatan is a great beach for this too, nice bathrooms, showers and a life guard. I could not recommend this more! We will be doing it again this Fall. read more

We took a 2 hour paddle board tour with Chris and had so much fun! He was very easy to learn from and made sure everyone was comfortable being on the board and had a great time. Chris was very knowledgeable of the area and explained the different parts of the water we went through and the various nature around us. I would highly recommend signing up for this tour and asking for Chris as your tour guide. I've never been surfing before, ever, so i was a little nervous. but these guys were awesome. very professional and fun. what i loved most was the intro. our instructors went over correct form, how to handle the surf board, even how to paddle before we even went in the water. so by the time i hit the ocean in my wetsuit (provided by the company!!) i felt prepared, confident, and ready. My 7 year old daughter and I had our first surf lesson today with VB Surf Sessions! Everything from scheduling our lesson, on beach instruction, and getting into the water was a positive experience. My daughter was a little nervous as we approached the beach but between the encouragement, patience and knowledge of the instructor she was eager and ready to catch her first wave. I would like to thank Derek for working with my two sons for their private lessons this past Monday, Labor Day. He was very thorough and educating them about safety, water conditions and wind conditions, and how to surf. The conditions were a little rough that day; however he was able to give them plenty of practice getting up on their boards. this place is AWESOME!!!! i was in VB for work, had one afternoon off, and threw a hail mary to see if there was anywhere i could rent a paddle board and get out in the surf. Not only did they rent me an AWESOME board, but went out of their way to drop it off at the beach for me, and picked it right back up when i was done! the staff was extremely friendly and knowledgeable, and i will definitely be giving them a call again the next time i'm in town! read more

We got hooked after one lesson with Tony. He is a laid back teacher who will have you on your feet in no time. He also has great deals on boards, so we bought 2! What great experience. A group of us, ages 8 to 43, went for a two-hour lesson. I was impressed with the staff from the moment we arrived. We had a lesson on currents, tides and safety. Once in the water, the staff made sure everyone "rode" the waves. I can't say enough about how wonderful the experience was!! I can't wait to go back. read more

Planned a trip down from NJ and signed my daughter up for the 5 day surf camp. She had a blast! Was up riding waves first day. The instructors are amazing and really keep a good eye on all the kids.
