I was nervous about the 1:4 ratio, but since they were on the younger end, it was mostly a 1:2 or 1:3 ratio for them. I had visions of them being pulled under a wave and being traumatized by the ocean forever, and it's true they did get hit by the board a few times, but the instructors were so positive that the kids didn't mind much, kind of like how falling is a fact of life when you're learning to walk (but we don't tell kids not to learn to walk). I learned a thing or two too - instead of reaching to a bad wipeout with "Are you ok??", I can try saying "Sick wipeout dude!" :) The one thing I would note is to pay attention to the tides - I think the camps are better at low tide.

Look for the Tiki themed business just off the corner of Mill Dam Rd. LDC remained open during the Virginia Stay at Home orders because they were deemed essential by the City of Virginia Beach which has a contract with Virginia Beach Lifesaving who guards the beach. Service by Luke and staff was phenomenal. They took all safety measures with cleanliness and also wearing mask. My experience was my son utilizing their indoor pool to keep active with training during lockdown orders. The tub is mainly used for swim lessons and scuba training. The roof structure seems a bit sketch with fiberglass and plastic over arched rods like a green house. However, there was no issue and during storms and high winds it's not operated. Pool time is $20 an hour, ask for any specials. They have a four lane 20 yard pool that worked, but not ideal with it being short 5 yards from regulation since my son is a competitive swimmer. Staff placed lane lines in during workouts. Staff kept the pool clean and most import during the off season it's heated. There is a changing area. Staff have told me that they think lessons will resume this Summer. I encourage any parent looking at programs to consider swim as essential. The 4-5 year old range in my opinion is a great age. The city has many options with recreation centers. However, LDC small groups is an advantage.

This one was fantastic! Pat and Eduardo helped us onto the boat, secured our life vests and then told us to give us a thumbs up or down if we wanted them to go faster or slower. The speed was perfect (fast enough to be bumpy, exciting, and fun, without being scary or dangerous). Toward the end, we gave a thumbs up and got some great thrills and big splashes in! We paid extra for the pics and video, which the staff sent to my phone (thanks Olivia!) It was sooo worth it! The pics are priceless! We highly recommend this adventure.

WRV has been my spot for summer clothes in the Virginia Beach area. Parking was a little bit…read moredifficult because there is construction going on so I had to navigate around the block to the entrance on the other side of the building. The social distance guidelines are being followed there are signs posted on the door and there's hand sanitizer as soon as you walk in. They always have the best selections of clothing for men. The men's section takes up a quarter of the whole store so you shouldn't have a problem finding something that you would like. When I went in there today they had a lot of items on clearance, including shirts, shorts, swimming shorts, and sandals. They also have a really good variety of sunglasses both cheap and expensive. As long as I've been going here, for over 15 years, The employees always go out of their way to help you find something that you want. I have never had any trouble finding help when I needed it.

My daughter spent 4 days with Seth Broudy's Surf Camp and LOVED it! Yes surfing was the highlight,…read morebut she also enjoyed the warm ups - jumping the waves breaking on shore and running on the boards in the water. Seth and the instructors were awesome! You can tell how passionate they are about surfing and how pumped they are for the kids to feel that same exhilaration from the sport. There were about 12 kids during this first week of summer ranging from 6 years old to 13...all were able to catch their own waves and had the biggest smiles doing so. Seth shares photos each night on his Facebook page. I could see my daughter's look of concentration standing on the surfboard and her huge smile when she reached the shoreline. Classes start early at 8 AM and go until noon. The surf school had new rash guards for the kids (blue and red so they can keep track of everyone in the ocean) and also had wet suits available. Of course they supply the boards. Croatan is a small beach with nice restrooms and changing facilities. The parking lot is free before 9 AM, so if you wanted to stay at the beach to relax while your kids are at camp you can although the school recommends you not stay in case your child gets distracted or self-conscious knowing you are there. My daughter was begging me to stay on the 3rd day to watch her surf because she was so proud of herself. Lucky for us we have family in Virginia Beach and return often to visit. I plan to sign my daughter up for more sessions with Seth Broudy's Surf School.

This past weekend my mom and her fiancée were in town and we had a boat fishing trip planned that was scrubbed due to wind and waves and surf. Bummer. So, we brought him here so he could at least do some fishing and hopefully catch something! It's easy to roll up and rent a fishing pole and buy some bait which you do on the left side shop right before the pay booth for the pier. Once you do that - you pay to go through. I might be off on the pricing but it's around $15-20 to rent a fishing pole and get bait - then something like $13 to fish for the day and $4 for an observer (no fishing). Once you're on the other side there is a small snack bar serving burgers, fries and hot dogs and two bathrooms on the right. Then, the pier. There are tons of benches lining both sides and it goes out pretty far actually. Even crowded as it was the day we were there, we easily found a spot to fish further down. I recommend you bring a folding chair and cooler with you if you plan to be here for a while - while there are a lot of benches - it wasn't enough for everyone. And you'll want somewhere to put your fish if you catch them (duh). There is a "station" of three areas to clean your caught fish about 1/3 way down the pier open to anyone and most people were amiable and friendly and willing to share their space to allow you to scrunch in. All in all - a fun day and a fun trip. But I wouldn't pay to watch too often bc after about 30 minutes I'm ready to go. lol.

Whatever you need for fishing or for hanging out, you can find it on the pier. The bait shop also sells and rents rods and reels. I thought it was great that they could tell you what fish were running for the day. The pier is not free. Rates for fishing and just walking the pier for whatever reason is available. Military discount available. I did not fish this time but I will plan to next time.
