Cool joker figure/statue.

This place is pretty mind blowing. I've been here three times. It had been a while since my last visit and they have massively grown! Gamer centric bar lots of options and fun things going on. Parts of it felt like a museum because there is lots of cool stuff to look at. I'm sure they thought I was a crazy person wandering around looking at everything. Drinks were pretty sold and creative. One of the main reasons I went there was because I heard they served cookie McCakeface cookies. Which made me happy. Definitely give this place a look if you are even remotely into video games or just like cool quirky bars.

This place has become our regular Friday hangout spot. From the $5 all you can game price, to the fun themed food and drinks...to the staff that remembers our orders and our names and welcomes us like we are family...it really feels like a welcome and inviting bar to hang out, drink and have a good time. Plus the pizza is amazing. I was surprised how good the pizza was! Rotating tap list too. Try the unicorn j!ZZ shot, no lie. It's like boozy cereal milk :)

Nice fun spot to hang out at. They have video games on site, board games, drinks and food. Love the decor as well.

Neat video game themed bar in Vancouver! Located in a strip mall, it's definitely not the kind of place you'd expect in a suburban area... but as a visitor of Vancouver it was a nice surprise for our group of gamers. I wouldn't categorize this as a "barcade" like Ground Kontrol in Portland or LVL Up in the Bay Area... they don't have coin arcade machines, but actual console setups you can play while drinking/eating. There are couch set ups that seem to be reserved for large groups, but you can also go up to the bar to play some games on the screens above the bar. They also have a collection of board games at the tables that are available to play. I would also note - majority of the setups were for modern consoles, like Switch, Playstation 4+, Xbone, etc. There were maybe 2 TV's that had classic consoles at the ends of the bar, but for the most part they were occupied and didn't offer much if you were a group of 4. You might wonder - well why don't I just buy some booze and game at home with your friends? Well you go for the vibe - for a bar in a plaza, this place was well decorated with the Fallout vault and other video game themed nods. Also RGB lighting, because gamers love that stuff. My personal gaming hub (the living room) may have a bunch of video game themed decor... but I don't have the effort to put up cool lighting or make the video game theme decor flow, like this place. And unless you have a friend that's a great bartender... it's nice to have some themed cocktails over the usual beer/wine/whiskey. It's a $10 cover to play games, but at the time we were visiting the cover charge was waved if you could prove you were vaccinated. I thought it was a nice incentive. Since our entire group was vaccinated and we had proof on our phones, we were able to waive the cover fee and put that money towards drinks (lol). The drinks were great! Coming from the cities of Seattle, San Jose, and SF... I've gotten accustomed to paying for overpriced drinks, but here the prices were really fair for what you got. The drinks were tasty, a little strong at times, and the themes were fun given the environment (Mana Potion and Health Potion, for example). Finding a game to play was a bit confusing - it took awhile to get some help on a Sunday night. Though the TV's support all modern consoles, they also only had so much of each - we went from trying to rent out a Switch, to a PlayStation... then finally settling on the Xbox (a console that we don't really care much for because we have gaming PC's lol). Still, our group of 4 had fun playing the new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles beat em up game while going through drinks. There's also the novelty factor you have to appreciate about sitting at the bar and playing on the screen above with a controller. Didn't get to try the food, but it was your typical American/Western offerings of pizza and the like. Drinks were solid for the prices and atmosphere, so I'll definitely come back when I'm in the area. Chill way to spend a Sunday night for out of towners, Wish we had more places like this!

This bar is super chill and fun! Cool place to bring friends to play video games or board games. Every time I go there's always something new happening. Their drinks are delicious and creative but I don't think they put much alcohol in them would be my only complaint. I tried their pizza before and it was really good. You order up at the bar then sit down. Some of the bartenders are really nice and some not so much, but overall a dope spot!

They have a unique menu in the Lounge, and the wings are superior! And the sauce is amazing. I also love how the drinks (Tiki) are listed with a "moon," to show you how strong they are, super helpful when deciding. Cause if you like it strong, you know what to get or if want a lighter drink, as Tiki can be intense, you don't end up sabotaging yourself. Haha. I wish there was a half star option, as the only real ding here was that they don't seat in the lounge without your whole party (and yes, I get that there's a time limit, so I suppose that they are trying to make sure everyone has time), but, there's nowhere to wait, so was left standing by the door for some time. Offer to seat me in the bar or something, was very awkward to just keeping shuffling around when people are coming in and out.

It was only today, when my boss took our department out to lunch here, was I reminded of how many things Gustav's does right, despite being a chain restaurant. The first reminder came in the form of the interior décor; I forgot how charming it is here: from the entrance to the bar and to the dining halls, there are few restaurants in Vancouver as immediately evocative and immersive in their aesthetics. Our server was friendly, welcoming and helpful in her suggestions, particularly for those members of our party to whom German cuisine is very unfamiliar. The food, by and large, is excellent, although the prices are a bit steep for some of the offerings: for example, the goulash is tied for the most expensive item on the menu, along with the Bavarian Feast. One of these dishes makes sense for the price point; the other does not. It's hard to go wrong with the feast, the wurst platter (in any combination), or any of the schnitzels, but sadly, the Kohlrouladen that I ordered (one of my absolute favorites) didn't quite live up to the high bar set by the same dish at Baren Haus in Leavenworth. The two rounds of fondue with sausage that we ordered as an appetizer were well-received (and thoroughly ravaged) by our party of eight in record time! And although I didn't partake (as I have a negative sweet tooth), a trio of desserts finished off our group's meal, and left everyone satisfied. Overall, Gustav does far more right than I remembered, or gave them credit for. Other than my nitpicks about one particular entrée, and some questionable pricing, everything else about Gustav's punches far above its weight class, especially when considering the fact that it is a chain. By that metric, they have no business being as fantastic as they are! With a couple of tweaks, such as a firmer commitment to embracing German authenticity, and toning down the prices a bit, Gustav's will absolutely have a lock on that fifth star that lies just barely outside their reach.
