I stopped on by midday because I had seen this place before and I was hoping to get a bite to eat. When I walked in, it felt cozy in the way that dive bars can. I stood around a bit awkwardly since the bar area wasn't full, but people were spread out across it and it was difficult to see who was an employee versus who was a customer. The bartender was actively eating when I walked in and when I walked up to her, she stared at me until I asked for a menu. Not a "what can I get you" or nothing, just silence. I asked for a menu, which she got me. I looked through the menu but nothing really lept out at me. I did order a beer, which then I was told to have a seat at a table and she'd bring it over. There was a man behind the bar who must have been an employee telling tales and cursing up a storm with a regular in the way that some men do. The beer was nice, but despite being mid day, it didn't feel like a place I'd want to hang out. Not because of any one thing, but because it really felt like you were intruding on someone else's party, if that makes sense. I bet this place is pretty warm and friendly if you are a regular, but didn't feel super welcoming. Either way, the beer was decently priced and cold, so the experience was just ok. read more

Neighborhood bar, lots of locals. But they are all fairly friendly. I love getting a late night pizza here, the garlic chicken is a chop chicken salad on a pizza. DELISH! TONIGHT i saw the everything burger. Wow! it's like a 3 story burger, there's no way I could finish that. Been here for breakfast. ASK for the habanero sauce they make in house. It's scrumptious. I have been here quite a few times in the past. Cathy is such a sweet cool bartender. The place is a little run down with usually a lot of friendly local regulars there. I have always heard they have good burgers there so I tried the bacon burger and fries. They have some really soft buns that tasted pretty good but the burger was really dry and over cooked. I did like that the fries and burger were hot temp wise. The Bloody Mary was delicious too and the service is always good. I will most likely be back in another 3-6 months from now. read more

Great dive bar! It's actually pretty spacious. They have karaoke , pool tables and room for big parties. We stopped in for a quick bite to eat and a cocktail. It was just what I needed. I order their club sandwich. Pretty good! It was huge! Can't go wrong with a sandwich that makes turkey and bacon it's star! Lol! Along side some tater tots and just a side of ranch. I was a happy camper. I didn't want to move after eating it. So full. Been stopping in here occasionally always enjoyed it. First time eating and it won't be my last! I would give negative stars if I could. Myself and a few friends went in on a Saturday night, it was pouring rain so we ran in from the car. Upon entrance the bartender promptly came around and let us know she would serve 2 of us, but refused to serve the other 2 in our party. I asked why, she said they were intoxicated and that they "barely had their eyes open"... We had just ran in from the pouring rain, and my friends are Japanese.. Whatever, fine, we ordered drinks and played some pool. I went back to the bar for a second drink some time later and she rudely commented how she told me I had to leave my tab open if I wanted a second drink. The next day I find she charged me top shelf for the second drink when that isn't what I ordered. I will not be going back and will suggest everyone steers clear of Jays. There are far friendlier places with better customer service and staff. read more

Would not recommend, place is very much racist! I made a Yelp account for this sole purpose. I'm not one to complain about these sort of things, but after giving it some thought, I decided it might help others. Went to this bar for a karaoke night with some of my friends, 2 of which are black - myself included. I was told they would not except Oregon IDs for myself and my friend whom of which is black, while my other friend who also had an Oregon ID was let in with no problems. After a while of arguing with the bartender we were allowed in (should've just left then). One of the bartenders friends accused myself and my friend of stealing her bag, which she found only moments later at her table. The bartender told my friend and I we had to leave despite her finding her bag while we were still in the bar. Overall, very mediocre and prejudice. There are many other karaoke bars I would happily recommend. read more

Negative reviews are likely from people who either A) have unrealistic expectations and aren't used to hole-in-the-wall dining or B) got too sloppy and were cut off/kicked out because they don't know how to drink like a grown up. I got sick off the food here and the bartender heard me throwing up in the bathroom and told me that I couldn't be served anymore even though I wasn't drinking. Don't drink, but they still told me that they wouldn't serve me anymore. Do not believe the 5 Star reviews on here because they're all from Friends. Believe the two-star reviews or believe this one. We love this place and love what Mike & Cathy have done since taking over. We always have a great time here, especially on karaoke nights. They have karaoke six nights a week, and the KJ does a great job of keeping the list moving. Everyone who works here is friendly and does a great job remembering our drinks even though we're not extreme regulars like some people are here. The food is pretty typical of a bar, and the drinks are nice and strong. Great happy hour deals, nice portions, and daily specials. In the past year since they've taken over ownership, the food has improved, the atmosphere is improving, and younger crowds are starting to come out here more often. Someone recently broke in and took their computer system for taking credit cards. I hope someone doesn't have a "negative" experience (since everything is running a little slower without the computers) and gives Jay's a fair chance. Yes, it's definitely got that casual feel, but it's always a good time at Jay's. read more

I'd give this bar 0 stars if it was possible. 2 of my cousins, my fiancé and I went to Jays over the weekend and had a horrible experience. When we first got there we went and sat at a booth in the corner, by the pool tables. We stayed at our table unless we were going to the bathroom or to get another drink. Around 1am they called last call so we went and ordered another beer so we could have it after we finished our current ones, that were almost gone. Not even 10 minutes later (so around 1:10) the bouncer came up and grabbed all 4 of our FULL drinks and dumped them into his bucket. We were kind of shocked because usually they will say I'm going to take these, do you want a drink? If they were going to call last call that soon, they should not have let us order drinks because they pulled them about 5 minutes later. My cousin went up to try and get a refund and then we realized that other people still had their drinks so we were questioning why ours got pulled and theirs did not. They were incredibly rude to us and told us that "they forgot to pull theirs" but that is not possible because their table was on the way back to the bar. Anyways, my fiancé was going to get his refund for our untouched drinks and the bouncer told us we needed to leave. When we asked why we had to leave the only thing the bouncer could respond with was "because I'm the bouncer and I can do that!" So yes, they have very poor customer service and they kick people out for no reason and let you order drinks 5 minutes before they come and take them and do not refund your money. Would not recommend to anyone. read more

It's a dive bar. That part is fine. But don't pay with a card. They like to overcharge and hope that you're too drunk to catch it. They tried to charge me for 9 shots and 2 drinks that I didn't order. Over doubled my bill. Luckily, I was was paying attention. And I'm not the only person they have done this to. My boyfriend and I go to jays fairly often, mainly because it is close to our house. They have above average bar food. We really enjoy the burgers/Tator tots, the chef salad, and I've heard the nachos are amazing. pool tables are nice and they have a few other games as well as karaoke (quite a few talented singers come in, and they're always tolerant if you aren't great lol.) my only complaints are that occasionally they will pour mixed drinks sickeningly strong, and on Friday/Saturdays they tend to be packed with a louder crowd. The bartenders tend to be nice and fairly observant, although if you're sitting by the pool tables and they're busy, expect to have to go up to the bar for service. read more

Jays is a great neighborhood bar. They have three pool tables, some dart boards and a place to dance or sing karaoke if that's your thing. Joelle is the nicest lady. She has great customer service skills. She is definitely one of the reasons we come in Sundays for pool. The food is decent bar food, can't really complain about it. My only complaint would be the sound system. Sometimes the volume is up way too loud in the back of the place where the pool tables are. The people in the front don't notice because they aren't so close to the speakers but if you are trying to play pool on a Sunday when the football games are going it's definitely too loud in there. read more

Horrible owner the male owner treated us like garbage it was 1 in the morning he said we're not serving anybody and wouldn't let us find our friends to go home. Once we found our friends he literally pushed one of us onto the pavement the female owner was devastated she apologized for him but he had hatred in his eyes I don't know what happened but he was taking it out on us. I fear that he the owner will hurt somebody in the future read more

What conditions allow a restaurant/bar to refuse service? There are a number of legitimate reasons for a restaurant/bar to refuse service, some of which include: Patrons who are unreasonably rowdy or causing trouble; Patrons that may overfill capacity if let in; Patrons who come in just before closing time or when the kitchen is closed; Patrons accompanied by large groups of non-customers looking to sit in. 4 friends arrived at establishment outdoors 1/1/2018. Shaun's girlfriend entered; went to right side of bar and waited to be tended to. Shaun walked into bar (middle point) where customers were ordering drinks. Girlfriend greeted him. Shaun suggested she go see if store around corner was open as he ordered drinks for the group. Girlfriend left; store was closed. Girlfriend freely re-entered restaurant/bar to catch up with Shaun and find their 2 friends. Observation at middle bar: girlfriend overheard a man in background say, "Do you need to use the bathroom?" Girlfriend saw friends from a far. Man/owner came up to Shaun telling him drinks were stopped being served. Bartender was already in process of making drinks. Owner was commanding; quickly escorted Shaun outside when he was never approached due to any unreasonably rowdy or causing trouble. Girlfriend followed Shan and owner outdoors. Friends pursued. Owner became angry and commanding, yelling at Shaun. Shaun shocked (long term-customer), tried to explain legitimate reason for Owner misinterpreting situation. Scenario got out of hand between owner and Shaun (more yelling). Owner at front door entrance forcefully pushed Shaun outside (even though he had already made his way outside); it created a domino effect where it slammed him into his girlfriend as he fell to the ground. All 3 individuals backed away due to Owners actions with commanding yelling; asking Shaun to leave. Shaun stood up, yelled at owner. Individuals split apart while Shaun entered parking lot. Both owner and Shaun continued to yelp from afar. Cathy came out; explained drinks were stopped being served. 2 friends and girlfriend went up to Owner/Cathy. Girlfriend asked to ignore Shaun; explained she went to store, it was not open and came upon situation. Cathy apologized. Unfortunately in most cases, refusal of service is warranted where a customer's presence in restaurant/bar detracts from the safety, welfare and well-being of other patrons and restaurant/bar itself. Shaun never pushed Owner nor caused a violent scene indoors at restaurant/bar. Owner(s) should have been at front door at all times or had bouncer greet all patrons to explain closing time to avoid more customers entering business. Unjustified scenario could have been handled with less violent yelling on man/Owner's part and no physical contact (damages or injuries) as not to make matters worse towards customer (Shaun). Customer service could have been friendlier to make scenario less stressful since it rang into the new year. read more
