I took a detour to Vassey's after taking a friend to another nursery that is known for their vast selection of plants and gift shop. Vassey Nursery was such an unexpected surprise! A word of warning, Google Maps might send you to the wrong driveway across railroad tracks (as it did us) . This must happen A LOT because there was a sign or two stating that it was private property and to not drive any further! We backtracked over the railroad tracks, started driving parallel to the tracks on the main road and the correct directions kicked in. We went with it, and glad we did! Helpful staff, a nice selection of common plants as well as ones that are not so well known, or varieties lesser known. In the heat that we've had this summer I was very impressed that the plants did not seem at all stressed from lack of water or sunburn--like the previous nursery we'd just come from, not to mention my own garden! Not easy to do, so wanted to note their obvious care of plants. Nurseries have become quite pricey but felt this was reasonably priced and in comparison to Watson's, a very good deal! I bought a few things, having only wanted to get some ideas for fall planting. I couldn't resist! I most definitely will be back. read more

This place is a hidden gem with many many plants and other items to look at and purchase. I love going here just to walk around and see all there is because it is a big place and they have an amazing gift shop as well. We went back yesterday for their 30% off sale. We really like this nursery. The plant stock is excellent quality, well maintained and well priced. They stock a number of choice plants that are hard to find. We have purchased birch trees here earlier and bought a wonderful Japanese maple yesterday. The staff is very helpful but not overbearing. They know the plants and give good advice. We go back at least twice a year. read more

Walked in the nursery...saw atleast 3 staff. Not one approached if we needed help. Walked through the whole nursery and left dissatisfied.

My husband and I recently took my Mom and sister to Vassey's. Their selection is pretty big and the prices are competitive too. They had a lot of trees in various sizes and it was very easy to walk around and check out the information on the plants. They have a soothing waterfall and it's only a mile away from our home! Things were easily labeled and you can easily spend a lot of time looking at all of their plants. It had a nice flow to it and it is in a quiet part of town. I think that the location doesn't help a lot because it's on a dead end road but if you're in town, you should check it out. It's a very good size nursery and it usually not super busy so it's easy to get help. I put down three $ because some of the items can be pricey but I still think it's competitive to other nurseries. My Mom and sister are from Seattle and they were really impressed with the nursery in Puyallup. Their staff is friendly and very helpful. Each time we've gone, James has been really nice and consistently friendly. There was another person this last time who was a bit snobbish with her knowledge so I didn't really care for her. But I'm sure that she has a lot of knowledge regarding the products she sells. It was her way of sharing that knowledge which rubbed me the wrong way. I'll go back though because of the selection, competitive pricing and their overall excellent service! read more

Vassey Nursery is the best nursery around. Today we went to buy flowers for containers on my Mom's large deck for her annual Mother's Day gift. Paula helped us. She asked us the size and colors of the pots and then created beautiful flower arrangements (who knew plants and flowers corresponding/complimenting to pots!). We've just finished the deck container plantings and this is the best year ever. Paula at Vassey Nursery is a GENIUS! Thank you Paula! Found this gem by chance it's the best place to get your flowers!!!! Kinda hidden but we'll worth the hunt. Mother's day is coming and they have the biggest most beautiful hanging baskets I've ever found by far! If you've ever seen the huge hanging baskets in University Place and around Puyallup this is the place to get them you won't be disappointed. read more

Very impressed with this nursery. Customer service was great, they had a tree I've been looking for everywhere with no success (Sequoiadendron giganteum 'Pendulum' / Weeping Sequoia) that was container grown. Price was fair for the size of the tree, I'll definitely purchase from this nursery in the future even though it was a bit further than I'd like to go from home. read more
