Interesting experience I just had. Had a phenomenal one the day prior, however, the day before I sat outside and had a nice server and she was fantastic. The chicken kebab I had was sooo delicious I went back today for seconds but this time sat at the bar. Completely different experience with the bartender. He looked annoyed I sat down and then gave me a hard eye roll when I ordered a hard seltzer. I mean glaringly obvious he was not thrilled with my choice of beverage. To the point he explained to me he would go get one from the back bc he said and I quote, " no one ever orders those so I don't want to dig through this fridge to find one." I apologize I have a gluten allergy and am very weary of ordering cocktails that could be something that doesn't agree with me. I have worked in hospitality my entire life and was disappointed with the attitude. When I asked for my check he kind of halfway through/slid it in my direction that confirmed to me he's either in a bad mood or hates people that drink gluten free beverages ‍. We ordered the mushroom farfalle, and it was an unhealthy, oily, salty mess. There was so much oil that the oil completely saturated our takeout container and soaked through to the bag, leaving puddles of oil in the bag. A coworker recommended this place and so tried it out. We had Tessa as our waitress who was amazing. We decided to do apps and wine, with a Sangiovese red and a Assyrtiko white to cover our bases. Both wines were great. The good: The spicy feta was delicious and paired with pillowy pita bread and sliced cucumbers. The grilled octopus was cooked perfectly, but it was on top of a strongly flavored sauce on top of spinach that was overpowering and took over the dish unnecessarily if you ate all the ingredients in one bite. The not so good: The oysters were on the bland side and paired with a jalapeño caviar with ouzo spheres which dominated the flavor. The fried saganaki cheese was - if you closed your eyes - like fried mozzarella, only in triangle form and without any sauce. The great: The bougatsa dessert (phyllo wrapped custard with ice cream) was by far the highlight of the night and is totally worth going back for on its own. All in all, we'd go back again to try more of the menu as they have potential... The piece de resistance was the cinnamon dessert. read more

I quite liked Vasili's in the old location, and was excited about their move to a bigger space. I have been to the new location twice. They did a great job with the remodel - it's a very nice space. The first time I went, everyone agreed it was good, but not mind-blowing and we weren't sure how soon we'd be back to spend that kind of money. My partner and I ended up at Vasili's last Friday evening because they were able to seat us immediately. We agreed that our experience this time around was much better. The dips, scallops, and octopus mezze were amazing. Personally, saganaki is one of my favorite things. While their saganaki was tasty and served with a great fruity jam over it, I was a little disappointed it wasn't served in the manner when they light it on fire in front of you, which is how I'm used to seeing it. Maybe I am asking for too much or being unfair here, but I feel like saganaki only tastes perfect when it's that fresh. Theirs was not as warm as I think it should be and was a little chewy, though the flavor was great. It was a beautiful day so I decided to set up a little surprise dinner date night with my wife. I made the reservation online for patio seating. Making reservations online was a breeze. But I had no idea that Thursdays was ladies night. So the patio was packed with large tables of women. So we ended up waiting well past our actual reservation time. Patio seating this evening was terrible. It was SO loud and people screaming and high pitch laughing was echoing in our ears. Unfortunately, our only other option was indoor dining and we just aren't ready for that. So we pretty much ate our entire meal looking at our cell phones because it was too loud for us to talk. We were ultimately screaming at each other and it was just too much. But definitely looking forward to being able to dine in - because their dining room looks super chic and comfy! Table service was excellent. Our poor server was screaming at us so we could hear her. But she was super nice and patient! We ordered... Spicy Fried Calamari Grilled Octopus Marinated Beet Salad with Salmon Greek Salad with Salmon The grilled octopus was good. But not the best we've had. The calamari was ON POINT. Lightly breaded and flavorful! The beet salad was excellent. The Greek yogurt that comes on it is amazing! Greek salad is standard. The salmon was perfect! The skin was perfectly crispy and seared. I am late in reviewing this but I did take notes that night (hubby hates when I do this but it's rather useful). I'd actually give this place 3.5 stars. The overall vibe/look is inviting and very rustic. Nice open space inside and cute indoor/outdoor hybrid seating. In a busy day Friday it takes some time to get the initial order in but food comes out so fast that if you want a more leisurely meal I'd recommend you order a bit at a time and not all at once. Highlights include the dips (specifically the spicy feta), the gyro with high quality meat cooked perfectly and very flavorful, and the lone pear and smoked lumberjack cocktails: Smoked lumberjack is definitely Smokey so if someone is sensitive not a good choice The Lone pear is a delicious pairing of pear and elderflower with a bright lemony twist. Low-lights would be the overly dry falafel, the fries which were mostly actually too crispy to eat despite not look burnt, and the Arancini which relies on sauce for flavor -- and doesn't have much flavor or goat cheese in the item itself. I'd try this place again especially since the drinks were good and hubby did love the gyro but I'm not in a rush. read more

I love Vasili's Kitchen. I have been here with my girlfriend 5+ times and we've had a great meal every time. We did the happy hour a few times, which is nice to save a bit because it can run a bit pricey. We get the chicken and gyro pitas most times which are just phenomenal. The French fries are my so good. I've also had a Greek salad and arancini on other occasions which were also very good. Great vibes as well, they have a nice outdoor area which I enjoy sitting at every time. We also have not had to wait to sit ever, and service can be a little slow at times but I personally enjoy a longer restaurant experience anyway! read more

I'm a firm believer that a dish with less ingredients is easier to mess up than one with many. With that said, my Greek Caesar salad was spot on. It was a little heavy handed with the dressing, but the dressing was very good. It was lemony and minty. I added chicken to it which was cooked well. I took off a star because it was pretty pricey. My family tried this restaurant for the first time and we really enjoyed it. We tried the Saganaki, meatballs, chicken pita, gyro, seafood pasta, and branzino. The pasta dish was our favorite. The Branzino was prepared perfectly and was well seasoned. Sandwiches were ok, but the gyro meat was a little dry and bland. The cole slaw had no flavor at all, just chopped cabbage with a tiny bit of dill. The fries with the sandwiches were good and served very hot. A little pricey so it won't be an any time kind of place, but we will definitely be back. read more

Having enjoyed dining in the restaurant in the past, we were very excited to learn that Vasili's Kitchen had opened for takeout during the Covid19 pandemic. Driving from DC to relive the experience, we were most impressed with placing the online order. The order confirmation, allowed for real time food preparation communication. The staff are very friendly and take-out items were well packaged; hot items hot and cold items cold. Additionally, the flavors were consistent, as if we had dined in the restaurant, as were the prices. The tzatziki and grilled talagani cheese with pita were a great start to our meal. For the main course, the red snapper was fresh, moist and flavorful with an assortment grilled vegetables. The truffle mushroom casarecce was outstanding (we should have ordered 2 of these). To top it off we had the rice pudding AND chocolate cake. Both amazing! Vasili's Kitchen is well worth a visit. You wont be disappointed. I would give this place more stars if i could. read more

I have enjoyed every cocktail I have ordered even the old fashion rye drink which is usually not my cup of tea. Their classic margarita and sangria are worthy to be ordered again. I came here with my mom and her bestfriend to celebrate my mom's birthday. My mom loves to try out different restaurants and different types of food. My mom and her friend split the lamb dish, I do not eat red meat, so I cant comment on the taste of their dish, but the presentation was beautiful and they seemed to enjoy it a lot. BEET & YOGURT SALAD: We ordered this as an appetizer and I was a bit hesitant in trying it because of all the different colors. I was amazed at the flavors, it was very light and refreshing. The beets were cooked perfectly, very soft but still had integrity in the chew. The yogurt and the apples were a nice contrast with the bitter/sourness of the yogurt and sweetness of the apple. I was really surprised and impressed with the combination. FALAFEL PLATTER: I ordered the falafel platter ($19) and it was a lot more than I expected. I was afraid that it was a small portion that would not fill me up. The falafels weren't too dry and had a light falafel flavor. It paired well with the tzatziki sauce and the salad. My one complaint would be how dry and a little stale the pita bread was. Ive had many pita breads before and they were never that dry. It was hard to chew, but it was still edible. I loved how it came with roasted potatoes on the side (who doesnt love potatoes?) and they were fresh from the oven, still very hot. I enjoyed the meal, but it was not amazing. The one dish that was very unique was the beet salad. Overall, the service was really pleasant. The waitress was patient in guiding us through the menu and held a smile the whole time. She was also really nice in helping my mom select a glass of red wine (whats a birthday celebration without a little alcohol?). For the price point and overall tastes of the dishes, I'm not sure if I would come here again. The decor is beautiful and service is great. Went here for lunch with a friend - just casually walked in not knowing anything. As we sat down for lunch (lunch is from 11am to 3pm) we noticed how limited the menu seemed and we both commented about it. Between the both of us, it took us a while to decide on what to order - maybe that was a good thing. Water was served to us as we waited and they left the bottle on the table in case we wanted more water. We both ordered platters - I got the Lamb Kebab platter and it is described as a special blend of lamb mixed with Mediterranean herbs, pickled tomato salad, bulgur quinoa and a subtle lemon vinaigrette. My friend got the Chicken Skewer platter and it is described as marinated chicken with subtle vinaigrette served over a bulgur quinoa and spring mix salad. The price was a bit high for lunch $14, but I guess those thoughts went away immediately once we took our first bite. After the first bite, we both agreed the food was delicious. I know that my plate didn't look appealing at first, but once I took my first bite of the lamb, the salad and the quinoa, I felt like I was in heaven. It was so good. The lamb was easy to cut (looked similar to ground beef - well the texture) and there was a sauce that was on the plate that was paired so well with the meat...Yum...I wished I had more of that sauce. The salad looked like spinach and they were correct on the vinaigrette being subtle - just enough to know there is dressing, but not heavy in any way, shape or form. Hidden beneath the salad was the quinoa and it tasted fresh. As I write this review now, I want to go back to this place and have another serving of everything as there was nothing left on my plate when I was done - the same for my friend. We both decided to try dessert - I think there were only 4 items on their dessert list as the choices available were a bit limited. I went out on a whim and got the Chocolate Ganache which was topped with mango sorbet, served on chocolate crumbles and dished with passion fruit. My friend enjoyed their serving and loved it. If you are more into chocolate, this would be the perfect dish for you - I am not too much of a chocolate fan, but I certainly enjoyed the mango sorbet. They had sorbet as another dessert option but the only flavors they had were Chocolate and Raspberry - I would go back for just dessert alone if they served Mango Sorbet...so good. All in all, I am so glad we decided to take a chance on this spot - it was a spontaneous decision to enter and stay for lunch and it was well worth the visit. The wait staff was helpful and so I can't wait to go back again - maybe I will try their Salmon Platter on my next visit. read more

We've been wanting to try this restaurant for quite some time. So a rainy Saturday night seemed like a great day to go! However, we, we being my husband and son, were in agreement that this is not a place that needs to be tried again. The service was nice, but weirdly slow, for what seemed to be more than enough servers on the floor. Where it gets a little weird, was in the receipt of our food. We ordered appetizers, the shrimp was delicious, but $15 for three shrimp seems a bit off in Kentlands, Gaithersburg. We also had the pickled giardinera, which were good but oddly proportioned, especially after a similar dish I had in NY a month ago. The biggest concern came with our slow braised beef and our moussaka; there was no flavor whatsoever except for cinnamon in both!! It was weird. I will say the beef was tender as it should have been, but the orzo, and the sauce it came with, was so cinnamony we were confused. And at least the beef had a slightly different flavor; the moussaka had no seasoning but the cinnamon. The kids menu was also confusing as the chicken tenders were properly proportioned good sizes and then included what seemed to be a pound and a half french fries. Why? Another thing to flag was thag we also realized the little room that we were in had a different vibe than the rest of the restaurant, although we blamed that mainly on just not having a candle at the table. Lastly, for the slow service we had all night, the bill came FAST and the return to get the card was even FASTER which threw us off completely because it showed that they did know how to be fast. So while it wasn't the worst night out, it's not something we need to do again, and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone looking for Greek food. read more

I'm honestly confused about the less than 4 star ratings here. I had a stellar experience at this establishment. I had a reservation for 2, for brunch. I was seated the moment I walked in. The interior was very well done, felt modern and was nicely lit. There's patio sitting too, but it was supposed to be in the 90s, so that was out of the question. The brunch menu while not extensive, has the usual suspects one would want to order. Not overly expensive either. I chose the Kayana eggs and my friend got the Smoked Salmon Benedict. Both were really good. I normally don't even like feta, but I actually liked it in my egg dish. And the sourdough bread it was served with was really good. The servers were polite and service was good. I didn't even notice that they had come by and refilled my water. I might have to come back for lunch or dinner, seeing as that's where most of the reviews seem to stem from, but I had an absolutely great time for brunch here and would recommend it to all. It's a great addition to the local G-burg scene, especially for brunch. I know Vasili's has been around for a while, but this remodel makes them easily a place to go for a meal. read more

The Mousaka was very tasty, however not as hearty as the ones I've had in Santorini in and Naxos. But the fact that I'm comparing it to the traditional version from Greece is certainly a compliment. If you like cinnamon, you must try the Sangria. It is heavily seasoned with cinnamon, including a fresh stick of it in the drink. I didn't care for the coleslaw, but to be fair, I'm never really a coleslaw fan. This one was particularly bitter to me. read more

It was a 20 minute wait, but thankfully a couple left the bar and we snagged their seats :) Like everyone says, the decor is very swanky, a first for a Kentlands restaurant. Let's hope the food is as good as the decor. Our bartender was nice enough, so check plus for service. However, we left disappointed, but do see slivers of promise. The food portions are quite small, even for tapas place. Cava Mezze, the go to place of Mediterranean tapas, portions are much bigger and tastier than this place imo. Kapnos in Bethesda is more down home Greek tapas, whereas this place tries to modernize Mediterranean tapas. The pork belly gyro flatbread please do not order. There was barely any trace of pork whatsoever. The broccoli and cauliflower salad was large enough but void any flavor. The calamari chorizo tapas was the highlight tapa, but the portions were so tiny. The pork and beef meatballs were good, but needs more sauce (was getting a little dry). Yes people do compare this place to the old Vasilis, so as the business owner, who replies to most of the posts here and in TripAdvisor, says this is Vasilis Kitchen, not Vasilis Grill and has brought back a few dishes, please consider adding some larger size items (like kalamata chicken) or a signature dish (like Kapnos fried chicken) which is large enough to feed 3-4 people. read more

Prior to Covid, we loved this place. Tonight, we ate here for the first time in over a year and I was sadly disappointed. Not only was our order messed up so that it left me watching my husband eat but I had to actually ask for them to bring my salad out so that I had something to eat while they corrected their error. The roasted cauliflower literally came out after my husband had finished both his starter and his meal. In addition, while it was nice to be out and socializing it was discouraging that they have not returned to their prepandemic menu options. My husband and I are vegetarian and they used to have several options, which changed on a frequent basis, but no longer. Hopefully they will make some adjustments soon to attract diners. For me, while I appreciate they gave us a 10% discount for the mix-up on our order, I have options on where I spend my money and if this is all Vasili's has to offer, not sure how often we will be back. read more

Joined another couple for dinner, one of whom has a food allergy. Our server Tessa showed remarkable knowledge of the menu and cooking procedures as well as a genuine personal concern for our guest. Aside from that, she was incredibly personable and efficient. I've managed restaurants in 5-star hotels and for Michelin starred chefs so it's rare service impresses me (especially in the DMV) but she was amazing from the greet onwards. The food was also great- our personal highlight being the Roasted Cauliflower and the Bougatsa dessert specialty. read more
