My dad was recently seen for a check up and found that he needed a root canal treatment. At Patel, he got an X-ray done as well which we NEED for the RCT endodontist. We've now called more than 10 times. The receptionist at Patel has time and time again failed to email it to us. This experience will now cost us almost $200 for another X-ray that literally could be sent in less than one minute. Not surprised of the poor rating from others. Would not recommend if you want to save time and money! read more

My mother is a patient of Varsha Patel DDS. Taking her to her dental appts over the last 2 years have been an eye opening experience. From my observation, Dr. Patel does not follow any of the business, dental cleaning / restoration, or claims practices that my dentists have practiced over the years. Her office is only open a few days a week, my calls to her practice phone number have gone unanswered for a week, and she is both the front office receptionist and the dentist - all signs that her business is likely struggling. My mothers cleaning appointments are typically 20 minutes long - which is impossibly short for a regular cleaning and preventative maintenance checks. Her most recent cleaning appointment was 30 minutes, but in that time, she apparently cleaned and examined her teeth and filled 3 cavities. I questioned her on the truthfulness of her cavity filling claim and got the run around. No insurance preauthorization , she charged my mom $50 for her deductible, and then charged the dental insurance $1000 for the work. My mother will be seeing my dentist going forward. If you choose to see Dr. Patel, beware and good luck! read more

Dr. Patel was very friendly and sweet throughout my father's and my appointments. The procedures were fairly brief, and she let us know that our teeth were fine (she had many compliments for mine! ) She was VERY careful, given the COVID guidelines, including providing gloves and requiring masks when not in the chair, as well as her own protective gear. I would give "zero" stars if I could. I had a dental emergency last week and even my Insurance covered everything, Dr Varsha Patel asked me to pay $125 out of my pocket for a local anesthetic cream she used on my gum at the time of treatment. She said that "magic cream" is not covered by my insurance. I feel like I've been robbed and trapped. It seems like she tricks people like that. read more

Ok, I didn't realize this dentist was still in business. I tried looking earlier and couldn't find the office, but here it is. My teeth are worse since Dr. Patel got ahold of them. My last visit they told me I needed two more root canals to add on to the three that they have already done. Now two dentists said that she was wrong. One root canal was needed, but probably should have been an implant, as I am receiving one early next year. I am on the last leg of repairing several uneven fillings done by this office that has given me nothing but pain and frustration for many years. What really upsets me is the unnecessary procedures done by this office. She said that my teeth were so bad that I needed a deep cleaning every four months. This is not covered by insurance. I wanted to cry with how much money, pain, and time they were costing me by telling me that I was bad at cleaning my teeth or they were just soft and needed more care. Seriously, I hope they are better now than they were seven years ago. read more

I chose Dr. Patel because of her location and that she takes Medi-Cal Denti-Cal insurance. She scheduled me for the next day for a cleaning. She is very nice and explained things--even saying that supporting Denti-Cal was her way of giving back to the community. I mentioned I had some pain on my right side that was deeper than previous tooth pain I had felt before. I got my teeth cleaned and Dr. Patel patched up some composite fillings but I have some tooth decay at the base of my back teeth where they meet the gums so she recommended some desensitizing/anti-bacterial cream/ointment. She initially said this cream cost $95 and wasn't wasn't covered under my insurance so I was hesitant about getting it. As she cleaned my teeth, she showed how my gums bled and, at one point, put on my finger what looked like to me was a piece of plaque but she said it was bone, which I thought was odd. She again brought up the cream and I, reluctantly, agreed, thinking it could perhaps stave off infection, or whatever, because of the anti-bacterial qualities. I believe she also told me the cream would prolong decay but I wasn't sure because I was laying down and already fairly relaxed after at least 15 minutes of teeth cleaning. She got up to get something (I presume the cream), came back, and proceeded to patch my fillings and clean my teeth with the spin brush. She never flossed my teeth which I didn't even think about at the time and was only reminded by it when someone asked me if she did. The major issue I have is the $195 charge for the application of desensitizing/anti-bacterial cream/ointment. She billed it as CDT procedure code D9999 ("unspecified adjunctive procedure, by report") but, after checking the CDT procedure codes, I found D9910 ("Application of desensitizing medicament") sounds correct. It's also only $40 SMA (schedule of maximum allowance). I called Dr. Patel to ask her if the cream she used fell under this CDT code but she said no. I will be filing a complaint with Denti-Cal and just want to let others know about this potentially fraudulent hidden cost, since 1 other Yelp (and 1 Google) reviewer mention being charged for "anesthesia cream" (which is probably covered under a reimbursible CDT code). My bank statement also has 2 pending transactions of $195 from Varsha Patel, DDS so she better not have charged me twice for this bogus cream! read more

She came up with a lot of things to do including an expensing deep cleaning of the gum, which she said was really necessary in her state, while 2 other dentists (mine back home, in France, and the one that is now my dentist here, with good reviews) did not find anything to do, apart from an old filling to watch. Dr. Patel did that, and she continues to be our dentist- our 2kids, husband, and mine. I used to go to Varsha Patel but not anymore. There are several problems. First and foremost she insists on doing a lot of unnecessary work. That is to say that she "finds" a lot of cavities toward the end of the insurance fiscal year! Second, she doesn't seem to be very competent. She took three attempts to fill one cavity properly. This is the dentist I went to as a child and she is the reason I used to have an extreme fear of the dentist. I used to cry before every appointment because I was so fearful of the pain she would inflict. When I went to Dr. Patel, she constantly found cavities and said my teeth were soft. She also didn't listen to me when I told her I was in pain. Finally when I was a teenager, my mom switched me to a new dentist. When I left Dr. Patel, she told me I had 2 cavities. My new dentist told me I had one. So Dr. Patel clearly lied about one of my cavities. In the years since then, I have had very few cavities and both dentists I have gone to have said I have strong teeth. I also don't experience any pain at the dentist and don't fear going anymore. I am pretty sure she lied about many of the "cavities" I had filled by her over the years. Dr. Patel should be sued for malpractice. She is an awful dentist. Do not trust her. read more

Dr. Varsha Patel DDS was our main Dentist, but not any longer due to her Malpractice. She did filling of my root canal tooth #30 end of 2012 and highly recommended Crowning to be done soon, but since I had capped on my Insurance she gave me the appt. beginning of 2013 for #30 tooth crowning. When I visited she was preoccupied with a patient. When my turn came, she took the tools and started shaving off #29 instead of #30. My whole mouth was too numb to feel the wrong tooth being operated on. When I realized, I brought it to her attention. Her response was "Oh you mean the priority? You wanted #30 to be operated first, then #29?" I said "NO" You gave me the appt for #30 ! #29 was my healthy tooth! Could you not see the Root canal with filling on #30? Did you not read your Chart? Till now she does NOT accept her Malpractice mistake, probably in fear of losing license. Although Dr. Patel is courteous and accommodating, She comes across very in-confident, incompetent, not updated on latest technology. There are NO forms to sign. Office looks very outdated compared to others in the complex. It is worth paying little extra going to a confident Dentist than losing your healthy teeth which you get only once in a lifetime! read more
