This place is way overpriced. Paid 15.95 for a siete mares that was more vegetables than seafood.

La Cabanita Mex - Pollo a La Planta

The restaurant was previously called El Cazador and operated that way for at least 12 years…read moreaccording to our waitress who was employed there. It is located in a historic venue, the old Ramona Theater. We have tried other La Cabinitas in Hailey, Ketchum, and Meridian so we were already familiar with the menu. Unfortunately that seems to be where the similarities end. I ordered the Tacos de Pescado, grilled fish street tacos with verde sauce & limes (on the side) and it was supposed to come with guacamole, which I had to remind the waitress about. She said that the restaurant had been a La Cabinita for about a year, although the reviews here suggest only several months. Wife ordered the Pollo a La Planca, grilled chicken with onions and rojo sauce. Both came with rice and beans, which were average in quality. The quacamole was deep green, an unnatural color for authentic mashed avocado. It was average as well but did complement the tacos. The fish was grilled; I'm guessing tilapia but it tasted good. The chicken was dry and chewy, likely overcooked and she did not want to finish the meal. Complimentary salsa, beans, and fried chips were served. The salsa had a decent flavor but no attempt seemed to have been made to prep the undesirable parts of the vegetables such as stems, skins, and the like. The beans and chips were served cold; the cheese did not melt at all. Our server was friendly and attentive but struggled some times with understanding English. The restaurant has a banquet section for catering and a lounge with bar and pool tables in the back. Besides mediocre food, the biggest issue is how dirty, smelly, and buggy the place is, both inside and outside. I took a picture through the serving window of the kitchen and what I could see looked average in cleanliness. However, the ceiling tiles, floors, bathroom walls, and fabric bench backs all needed cleaning. There was an odor present that we suspect the fabric and ceiling tiles absorbed. As a reputable chain across Idaho, I don't understand why La Cabinita did not perform a thorough cleaning before they opened under new management. Additionally, we saw a beetle crawling towards our table (which we killed) and the lava rock on the outside was infested with spider webs. A call to an exterminator is needed. Prices are on the low side for 2024 but due to the overall experience they really are no bargain. It seems to me that complacent small town attitudes persist here. Not sure where the back of the house and management came from. I've read the reviews for the closed El Cazador and they were good. A La Cabinita senior management visit is overdue.

When I brought it to the employee and showed it to him, explaining it was inedible he argued with me saying that is how it is and is supposed to be. Horrible food, and horrible customer service. 2 plates never even had two bites missing and they wouldn't give different food or a refund.. NEVER eat here if possible

Because my husband and myself, both have medical issues preventing us from eating certain things; we can't just walk up and order, let's say a #5, and #22 off a menu. The two burritos I did order were pretty much special order items by the time I finished, and she (sorry I did not catch her name) did not even raise an eyebrow. She saw that we couldn't have cheese and even offered their guacamole instead. Did NOT charge more for the extra items I ordered on our burrito. Excellent service! We lived very close to the Mexican boarder where Mexican food was more than prevalent, and tasty. It's the one thing that's hard to find in Idaho. Rolberto's is as close to authentic as we've found. We will be back!!! Rolberto's please open a restaurant in Eagle, Idaho. Thanks for a fantastic meal on the road!!!!
