Pasta spot that reminds me of Subway, in that there are no standard options on the menu and everything is made to order. Pretty much pick the pasta, the sauce and the toppings. You sit down and then you go back to pick up your order, once your 'number' starts buzzing. While it is a hassle to eat here due to the parking and it being downtown, it's definitely convenient if you are already in the area or you just got done shopping at the mall. They have a separate entrance for strollers and a little area for the kids to play, color and entertain themselves - definitely appreciate this so they can do something with all that energy. Vapiaonos is a cool pasta & pizza restaurant located on the second floor of a building in k town. It has upscale and modern vibes, and being upstairs you get some nice views of the surrounding buildings. When you get there, you are given a card that you charge all your food orders too. There are pasta counters where you place your order to the chef at that station. After they ask you a few questions on how you want your dish modified, they begin cooking right there on the spot. Don't go too far away because, they are speedy!! Everything I ordered took no more than a few minutes to prepare. You really don't even have enough time to get bored and check your phone - that is how fast they are. I ordered two rounds of pasta because one wasn't enough. Not to say the portions were small, but the food was that good I had to go back for a second helping. My first course was the chicken alfredo, to which I added a second helping of chicken. I also ordered a side of the bruschetta. The Chicken Alfredo was everything and more that I was expecting. Creamy, Cheesy, the sauce was the perfect consistency and flavorful. I had some fresh shredded, not grated, parm added to the top and that really set it off. The bruschetta was equally as delicious. I'm not sure how they flavored their tomatoes, if they even did that, but they tasted very fresh and diced the perfect sized for a small handheld dish. I really have no major complaints about the Bruschetta because it was such an amazing dish, I was just expecting there to be some kind of mozzarella cheese and a balsamic reduction of some sort drizzled across the top. Again, not a problem at all because of how well it was executed without. After seeing what one of my dinner guests ordered (pollo picante w/ zoodles) I had a small sample and instantly knew I had to have a full serving to myself. I ordered mine with ziti noodles instead and I was far from disappointed. The sauce that it was cooked in is hard to describe, but it was sweet and tangy and really reminded me of what I think orange chicken from your favorite Chinese restaurant might taste like. Both dishes I would easily order again or recommend to someone coming for their first time. My experience at Vapianos was a very enjoyable one, and they are well deserving of a 5-star review, but I'm going with a strong 4.6 because consistency between dishes were very noticeable. There were two orders of chicken alfredo at our table, but cooked by two different chefs, and it was very clear one was better than the other. The difference wasn't as noticeable with the pollo picante, but there was still a slight difference between the two dishes prepared by those two different chefs. I especially love the bar, every time I go to order a drink the staff is friendly and helpful. The food is fast and good. Vapianos is a staple when going "downtown". Their pasta selections are full of variety, their tomato soup is delicious with fresh basil and mozzarella on top and their pizza and salads look appetizing (never had one but they look good). It's really fun to watch them cook your food right in front of you & I would say it's a good date night place because the atmosphere is clean, chic and classy. The service has never been a problem, more so because you get your own food and drinks before you sit down. read more

Honestly, our service and food was great and I'm excited to change this when I know the problems been fixed. Unfortunately, we had our bread with Balsamic Vinegar and Olive oil. And unfortunately we noticed some little beads coming out of the balsamic vinegar after we had eaten a couple slices. It turned out to be fruit flies that were flying into the tip of the balsamic and couldn't get out. We poured out a fair amount of it and found dozens of fruit flies trapped in the balsamic. We really enjoyed our experience at this Kaiserslautern location after a friend who used to live here recommended this chain to us. The location is in downtown Kaiserslautern, in more of a walking type area, so be prepared to park in one of the many parking garages located nearby or of course if you're lucky enough to find street parking, and then walk to the building that's in the middle of shops. Tons of kids roam this area after school and on weekends so drive slow (well tons of people in general ;) Vapiano's dining area is located up the escalator (stairs only to come down), and the hostess greets you and provides you with a plastic card similar to a gift card. How the card thing works is each time you order at a station, there's an electronic pad on the counter in front of you. Place your card down on this pad and the person accepting your order dials it into their system and the dollar (euro) value gets automatically placed into your card. So when you're ready to leave, you simply check back in at the hostess stand and she takes your card(s) from you, scans them to find the balance you've incurred on the card, and then you pay accordingly. They do take American Credit Cards as payment. There are many stations within the restaurant for you to order specifically what you'd wish. This is the cafeteria reference that others speak of. If you want pizza, you get in the pizza line, pasta - get in the pasta line, etc. This location has plenty of seating but I went and found my seat while my husband and his bff went to place their orders. My hubby came back in a matter of minutes with an appetizer of bruschetta and capresse salad. Those were so good! I'd go back and repeat that order! The food comes out very fast and is fresh and lovely. I loved this style of eating more than I thought I would because you can order at your leisure and just chill and enjoy your company without rushing though courses. The bar is the only other place we utilized that's just as quick. Since neither of us have kids that was the best seat in the house for us. Sit by the bar so you can easily carry your drinks to your table without feeling like you should've been a professional server prior to your visit here. They do have staff that comes by the tables to clean up your dishware to give you ample dining space. They're quick and courteous and do speak English. More English than we could speak German! Olive oil, balsamic vinegar and S&P are on each table. And so are fresh basil plants! The only reason why this wasn't a 5 star experience for me was mostly just because the pesto chicken pasta was super dry and a little bland. But all the other items were great and I really can't wait to go back to hang out and veg! read more

Vapiano's, the BEST freshly cooked pasta i've ever had! I've never been to a place like this before till i got here to Germany, but oh my goodness, this franchise is a must go to! Especially if you LOVE pasta!!! I'm a HUGE Italian, pasta lover and trust me when i say, this place makes people who don't even care for pasta LOVE it just as much as i do!! The portions are decent (filling but not too much for a normal sized person), when i say decent i mean you won't be leaving feeling like a fat potato. I can say that a lot of people that come here are not only locals but many military personnel come as well. The price is honestly inexpensive for the quality. My favorite dish is the traditional carbonara with either linguine or the thicker noodles (i forgot the name...) They'll ask you if you'd like to add chicken (an extra order is only a couple euro, maybe even just one) and it's delicious with that as well! My husband is a fan of the salmon carbonara, i also tried it and think it's just as delicious! They have all kinds of choices: from red and white sauces; all kinds of meats - chicken, fish, pork; pasta - linguine, rigatoni, etc; i mean the possibilities of any combination is endless! Not only do they serve pasta, the make pizza, calzones, and i hear from my friends who aren't pasta lovers that even their dang SALAD is TO DIE FOR! Seriously! They come here JUST to eat salad! My husband and I went to the ktown location on Friday July third for take out around 1830.We ordered pasta and pizza in different variations. Vapiano is our absolute favorite as far as the food is concerned.However,as we were waiting for our pizza, I realized that none of the cooks wore their masks.All of them had the masks dangling on their chin. Most disturbing was, one of the pizza cooks scratched his nose and then preceded to make pizza dough without any gloves on. This situation has me not wanting to go back to eat there. Clearly, there's a lack of management and hygiene. This is not the time to to work with food without a mask and gloves on! read more

To start I'll go with the style of restaurant, which is cafeteria made to order style. You are given a card which you go up to the line and order what you like and they charge the card and you pay at the end. Next is the food. They hand make all their pasta in house. The pasta looks amazing. Food quality is A+. My wife got the bbq chicken pizza which was really nice, good flavor and Aesthetically pleasing. I got the lasagna and red tea. The tea is some of the best I've ever had. The lasagna was piping hot and smelled great. It was easily the cheesiest lasagna I've ever had. I'm a Wisconsin native and I can say it was too cheesy for me. Hurts just to type that. It over powers the dish and you can't taste the meat or sauce. Other than that the place is great. You get a menu and decide what you want and walk up to the line of food being freshly prepared depending on what you want (if you're getting pasta there's a pasta line, pizza there's a pizza line etc) I love they had a low carb option which I've seen few and far between in Germany. I got the zoodles (zucchini noodles) with white sauce and veggies and a Pellegrino and my friend got Bruschetta which looked fabulous. Four stars for Freshness and Attention to detail as well as respect for vegetarian requests directly made with your personal chef! If you don't know about Vapianos, it's def something to be explained....hence three stars. You serve yourself pasta (or pizza) as it is made-to-order by a really nice cook/chef. However, I find it hard to do with the kids.... Here's why: there are different "stations" to order from and if the kids want pizza and pasta, you have to wait in each line....unless you have a reasonable chef who will pass your order to the other line (because you speak perfect German to request this -or- the chef is MAGNIFICENT *and* speaks English). Our chef was Great and my son made the request for me in German :) Also, if you have little angels, you would stand there without the kids, because they are patiently waiting in their seat (out of eyeshot) for you to return with some piping hot food. My kids are angels who don't wait I patiently for food. Therefore, they "stand" in the line with me.....and whoever else (3 other folks) happen to be in the line behind me. Whether you have kids or not: Your drink is given to you as you stand at the line...cumbersome...AND they are ridiculously priced. Like 5€ for a tea. After all those logistics are worked out, you get to the food. Fresh! But it is pre-portioned and uniform. You won't ever get something different (papas special or something homey). If you want flair, it's up to your chef. Sprigs of rosemary or basil fresh cut and sprinkled as a nice garnish. But that's about it! Ambiance is like a modern cafeteria with high tables (but I don't want anyone to lynch me for failing to recognize the amazing ness of Vapianos, so let me add that there is also cafe seating too... Like a Starbucks seating area inside of a Barnes and Noble). There. Happy?? Oh! And I forgot that the location is awkward but fun. It is on the 2nd floor across from the K in Lautern mall. It is NOT inside the mall. Parking is not ideal as you likely need to find a garage unless you were lucky enough to walk into the Ped zone from street parking somewhere a few blocks away. This place rocks! Walked in not knowing what to expect. We were hungry for some good italian food and this is the place that popped up closest to us. You are greeted at the front desk and given a card. You can then go up to the open bar of ovens and stoves and then select what you want off the menu. Once you find yourself a seat you can go up, order, and then recieve a buzzer. You add the meal to your card by scanning it over a device that rallies up your total. I am a HUGE fan of pizza if you've seen my other reviews and that is just what I orderd. Across the pond and I still can never turn down a BBQ wood fired pizza. Everything is served in front of you and that is what I find so NEAT about this place. Food is cooked quickly, and efficiently. I was able to order myself a Pils at the bar where they did the same thing for payment. Cool, relaxed and modern italian atmosphere at this place. Even some outdoor seating around the corner. I had never taken and escalator into a restuarant for a meal until this place! Good spot for some solid food, good prices, and hangout enviroment. My friends that I came with would agree. My expectations were to high and didn't though about the simply fact that the cookers are still being teached to make out of a conventional pasta an amazing experience.
