RUN! This spot was chosen for a going away dinner and turned out to be a major disappointment. The individual that answers the phone and handles reservations (Franca) is the absolute rudest person we've ever encountered in a restaurant. While we understand that reservations should accurate and that guests who reserve should show up, everyone has a life, things happen, and people can't always make the reservation. However, the majority of the party (14+) showed up to celebrate. Due to the last minute no shows, Franca took it upon herself to yell at me in front of the entire party and other restaurant guests about this issue. Extremely unprofessional, rude and disrespectful. She was also rude at arrival, expecting guests to sit down and instantly order "so the kitchen could cook". It doesn't matter if you have reservations or have 14 people walk in off the street - the kitchen still has to cook! Would never step foot in this establishment again nor recommend it to the local population. read more

I had a lovely time here. Wish could have seen more of the inside, but inside dining was closed. The staff was joking and kind but got frustrated really easy when some of the issue was simply communication issues, which is to be expected when it's people that all speak different languages and do their best to understand each other. I enjoy their chat and company. Their food was really good, though celery on bruschetta is new to me, still added a fun crunch and flavor. My pizza was perfect and no one with me complained about their meal. I am happy they made me a drink not on their menu, but to be fair there was 7 of us and two menus so I didn't know mojito wasn't on the menu. Was okay for a non menu drink. The only reason 3 for service was we were second party there and never really got served much. Drinks were not ordered much. Needed up having to do appetizer and meal at same time, the place is good as it is really busy. A little unorganized but I recommend trying it. One out party got chef's choice salmon lasagna and they crushed it. So it must be good. They also periodically get fresh muscles. (I am not a fan of any muscles) but my party crushed them. I love the ambiance here especially the private booths. The service is top notch and very inviting with the staff checking up on you often and at the right time. The food is the perfect proportion and so good. It is off the beaten path and busy but never too busy to seat you. read more

My first evening in the area I ate here. I had the Calamari Fritti as an appetizer and I will forever crave the slightly salty crust covering the perfectly cooked calamari. For my entree I had Fusilli con Scampi; it was delicious! Franca the owner was a great hostess and takes pride in her business chatting with all of her patrons. read more

This is a go to for us. The family are awesome and cuisine is spectacular. We've been going to Il Pirata at least twice a week for the past month and haven't had a bad experience. We except for that one time that a table of about 10 Americans just couldn't eat and socialize quietly. read more

So good! Love the staff and all the food is great! It's my favorite calamari ever & the best dish is their chef's signature chicken. Takeout and dine in is great and the location has easy parking and is family friendly but still nice and relaxing. They have outdoor seating and often live music or a DJ in the summer. read more

I've eaten here twice within the last 3 months and it is wonderful. Very nice inside, and the owners are so hospitable!! I've enjoyed the lasagne on my first visit, it was perfecto!! My Italian grandmother would've even loved it! I had mussels the second time and they too were very good, but there were more empty shells than I would've preferred which is why I didn't give it 5-stars. This is a great place to eat!! Il Pirata is a great value. That is usually a big part of my reviews, bang for your buck. Il Pirata provides a 4 start cuisine at a 2 star price. They have both German and Italian food but I mostly stick to the Italian. Their pasta is amazing and I usually go for something of the special menu. A bonus is they have a small area for kids with plenty of toys. During the summer months it's great to sit outside and they also have a swing set that my kids love. Allows for some time "alone." Overall I love eating here and do so often. read more

What a beautiful restaurant. I couldn't believe how large this place was and so well designed. Like most restaurants in Europe there is no a/c so if you're upstairs it can be quite warm. But there's plenty of outdoor seating and many indoor locations. I had the spinach lasagne and it was fantastic. Probably one of the best I've ever had. The beer was not as cold as I prefer and it was a bit warm in the upstairs section but the food and service was fantastic. read more

Located in Niedermohr, you might be tempted to think that you are being driven out to the middle of nowhere to be left for dead. But at the last second, a tiny little town appears and il Pirata is your island of great Italian food in Germany. The restaurant itself is collocated on the same property as a hotel called St. Paulushof which used to be a convent. The owner of the restaurant is a great northern Italian fellow who is extremely personable. He also has a great wife who waits on your table as if it were her only one. Together, they will cook you up a storm if you ask for the chef's special. It's about 35 Euros a plate but totally worth it! Great pizzas and authentic Italian dishes...all in Germany. About the only downside to the place is that they aren't open very late. read more

Ristorante Il Pirata is the one I keep returning to because it has the best food, friendly home atmosphere coupled with reasonable prices. We live close by so this is one of our favorite restraints. The food and drinks are reasonably priced and the food is tasty. My favorite dish is the Mamma Mia and my husband likes the spinach ravioli. I like the ice tea, its just the right sweetness. The service is good and they have an English menu. I also enjoy the after dinner drink that they serve but they only serve it occasionally. Overall its good Italian food with a great price. read more

Oh, the food here is worth the drive over! While taking the shuttle from the airport we were told this is the best Italian restaurant in the area, so we drove over and ... they were RIGHT!! Great food - even made a special dish just for my 8 yo daughter - fettuccine with Salmon and Spinach, but it is their sauce that made all the difference. The 10 Euro Salmon ravioli was SOOOOO much better than the 4 star $30 salmon ravioli we had suffered through in San Diego. Really great food with friendly service. This place is so great! Family owned and they are so friendly. The pumpkin soup in the fall is enough to keep people scrambling back when the season starts. The black lasagna is incredible (its seafood dish). The restaurant is beautiful and it was an old convent that was renovated. The gorganzola gnocchi was incredible! The spaghetti marinara (with seafood) was also delicious. They were very nice to accommodate us on the patio so our kids could play. They wiped down the chairs and table and brought out cushions. The waiter let us order a pizza first for the kids and then came back to get the adult order. Pizza is thin crust and yummy! One of the worst dining experiences I've had in a long time - and I eat out a lot. My group of 5 were seated upstairs in what felt like the reject room at an 80's wedding reception. Horrible ambience. We had a reservation but I guess they wanted to put us with the American families with noisy kids, even though we had no kids in our group. They took our order, and a little while late a tray of drinks was set on a table next to ours, where they sat for about 10 minutes. Finally the waiter came and served us the drinks because he'd forgotten about us. The appetizers all came at different times. The mains took forever. We were never once asked if we wanted refills for our drinks (we did want them, after all we were there for almost 2 hours!) And I timed dessert. It took 30 minutes. And on top of that the soufflé was overcooked and should never have been served, as that isn't soufflé. I can't even remember the food because it was such a terrible experience. I'm guessing all the good reviews come from people who were sat in the nice dining area on the main floor where the severs actually waited on them. You should not go to a restaurant and have two completely different experiences all while paying the same prices. This is inexcusable. Please, go somewhere else. Anywhere else. read more
