Quoted $1,000 to run 10 feet of propane pipe to my generator (and I am digging the trench for…read morethem!). On the plus side, they have only let me run out of heating propane twice over the last couple of winters, so that's something I guess. They destroyed my Buderus boiler a few years back with improper settings (wrong orifice and pressure set wrong). The boiler sooted up so badly it couldn't be repaired. I guess $100 per foot for a simple copper tube was the last straw.

i cannot say enough bad things about Bantam Fuel. You can't make up some of the things they have…read moredone over the years, and it's on me that I have not (yet) ended things with them. Water in the basement . . ." you need a new hot water heater:" So they quote one that's an exact match for a $600 Home Depot product, for $1,300 for the heater alone. Well that didn't happen. And in fact the hot water heater wasn't even broken. When I asked the sales person whether his unit was the same as the Home Depot unit at half the price, he literally went missing. Hmmm, so now it's time for propane tanks for a generator. So in April they tell me one thing, a month ago it's something else. On the eve of the generator being dropped, it's two different things two hours apart because the building inspector set them straight. it comes down to two things: (1) their sales staff is incompetent (TONS of turnover, for sort of obvious reasons as I feel that these folks have to bait and switch as part of their job description) and (2) they are fairly shamelessly expensive. A $2,800 tank - at retail - for . . wait for it . . . $5,400. The reason? "We're a big company and we have to make money." That's a direct quote. Not to mention they decided that they will dictate terms to the customer. With no knowledge of any of this, when the electrician heard that Bantam Fuel was doing the tank . . his reaction. "Oh no, we do everything we can to avoid them." And, probably the least of it, 15 minutes on hold to speak to anyone. The CSR who finally answered - the only good interaction of the whole thing - apologized. "We're really short staffed". Yeap. And these guys want to do more around your house? Pest control? Plumbing? Most of this work, if what I have heard around is true, is just subbed out to others with a giant markup. You are now forewarned. Do as the pros do, like my electrician. Avoid this company at all costs.

Update: This company went from a great experience, to the worst experience. My secondary heat…read moresource went out during the winter and I called for a service checkup. After about 15 minutes of work I was told the condenser had to be replaced due to mice chewing the electrical wires. I could understand this. Here is where the issue comes in. The technician first said it would be $3400 to replace. He then went to his truck and came back to tell my wife it would actually be $8,000, but they added a discount so I would Pay $6,000. The total cost of the whole install (condenser unit + 4 wall units) was 12,000. So just to replace the condenser is over half the cost of the initial install. I called to complain and spoke with the service manager. The service manager essentially explained to me that this was accurate because if they did the install today it would be 23,000. So they evidently had a 100% price increase. I then explained the invoice showed the unit itself as 2,000 and then labor as 6,000. He explained to me that was untrue, that due to the new invoice system they have, they can just put numbers anywhere essentially, so I should ignore the invoice. I explained my frustration and how that does not make any sense and I am not paying 6,000 for a condenser and labor. He said he understood and would escalate it higher and I would get a call later that day or the next. It's going on 3 days now and I have not heard back. This company went from one of my top rated to near highway robbery. I cannot reccomend them to anyone at this point, and will need to look into alternatives to get my heat back in the winter.

The guy who answered the phone gave me the voice like he just woke up and or was stoned, didn't want to be bothered, was rude not helpful at all. I just wanted to make sure someone would come out Monday morning but he couldn't be bothered. I will never use them again, would never suggest this company to anyone.

Had these guys recommended to us to come unclog a kitchen drain. He asked to come early but still…read morearrived an hour late, started ripping apart the drain without a bucket to catch the water and then laying the nasty dirty pipes on our 6' long woven kitchen mat, rather than a blanket, a paper towel or even the tile floor. The snake did not work and actually got stuck for awhile but that's because the pipes were very bad & could not be unclogged as it was legitimately bad 70 yr old galvanized pipes completely corroded and blocked. So, after multiple methods & tries, I agreed that we needed to replace about 10' of old galvanized pipe with PVC and the basic older PVC drain components under the sink. Understandably, they could not come back until the following day since the scope of work had changed. The actual plumber (very nice guy, decent work, but VERY MESSY) scheduled his return for 8:30 the next day, and estimated 4 hrs of work for $1,100 + materials, tbd. As we were left without a kitchen sink, since he got us in for the next morning & was recommended by a friend and fellow plumber, I agreed to the high labor estimate, knowing it there was a chance that it could take more than 4 hrs and signed for the labor, while my wife spent 2 hrs that night cleaning our kitchen mat from drain grease. Next morning, I had to go to work so my wife took the day off. Midmorning, I'm getting texts from her asking for his number as no one had shown up and I had not heard anything. Again, over an hour late, but shows up and gets the job done in about 2.5 hrs. As he's leaving, he asks for almost $1,500. She says, ok, please just give me the break-down for the materials. He has to call the office, puts my wife on the phone with the brother who refuses to provide an itemized list of material costs. Plumber leaves, wife pays the agreed upon labor charge of $1,100 for 4 hrs that took 2.5, no questions asked. Wife says she will pay materials, even marked up materials, if she is given a breakdown (again, this was 10' of 2-1/2" PVC and a few fittings). Mind you, I'm an Executive Construction Project Manager for nearly 20 yrs. I receive an email with a list of random items, no prices, including boxes of rags, latex gloves, boxes of glue, etc. I tell wife to get a real breakdown before settling after already paying the inflated labor cost. My wife then receives a barrage of texts threatening escalation unless "agreed upon" material costs are not paid...but no materials were agreed upon and they refused to provide material details. I get out of work and start receiving the same texts...for hundreds of dollars of materials that they refuse to itemize. On top of that, the mess left was insane and I later found he left a 6" piece of old nasty piping in the wall that I had opened up for them, stinking up the bsmt, dripping old grease down the walls. Never again...talk about choosing their battles Talk about choosing your battles...and knowing when to stop arguing with customers.
