If you order online with the expectation of picking it up from the store, CALL TO ENSURE SOMEONE HAS IT IN HAND before you head over there. I ordered online and drove after work. I've been coming to Vance's for years, have bought countless guns, ammo, and shooting supplies, and have shot at the shooting range countless times. Ninety percent of the workers there are helpful, friendly, and treat you like a functioning human. What I have experienced in my last two visits has been anything but that. A couple of months ago, I went with a friend who is new to shooting to help him pick out his first gun. He wanted to try a couple out, so we went to the range. Unfortunately, this is where we encountered the miserable man by the name of Jerry. I can't tell if this guy just hates his job, hates other people, or just hates life, but the way we were treated seriously had me questioning whether I should have let my friend purchase his first gun there. We were talked down to and treated like a couple of idiots, when in reality I can guarantee I have more experience with firearms than this sad excuse for an employee in "customer service." I got to experience him again today, and again he acted like he didn't want to be there, rolling his eyes and scoffing at a fellow employee when she gave him a walkie-talkie. The list goes on. Jerry should probably reevaluate his employment, or Vance's should, if they want to keep customers. I love this place. They have a very friendly, welcoming and knowledgable staff. And a very convenient location, just inside the 270. I purchased a new M&P with the assistance through Amy. She was really cool. This came with a rebate for a green dot optic that arrived in a week after entering it online. I returned looking for a cleaning kit for it the next weekend. (I was offered this during purchase, but I thought there was a waiting week). The sales associate took me to where they would be, but there wasn't any that he had in mind. He excused himself to check in the back. He returned with one for myself and others to place on the shelf. That impressed me by restocking, rather than just bringing one. I love the range! I think Vance outdoor has problems. After being the best in town for years I was just at the alum creek location and a ton of the shelves are empty. You could put the entire selection of holsters on 6 pegs. No 380 ammo except at the range counter and even there two selections of sd and that's it. No target ammo or 50 rounds boxes in the store. The do have 9mm but that's not what I went for. I called Cleveland avenue-- same story. Glitch in the new software. Looks like they didn't pay their bills and suppliers stopped shipping to them. This store has everything to meet your outdoor needs. However the customer service is truly lacking. The store have plenty of people to help you but they didn't. Came here to buy a Sig365XL with Romeo Zero Red Dot. The line was ridiculous. Had to wait in line to just find out if they had the gun in stock. Crazy!! Thankfully they did. After that the process was pretty quick and seamless. The sales person was easy to work with and friendly. My favorite store to buy guns and ammo, staff is always very helpful and prices are usually lower than the competitors in the Columbus area. Wait for the gun counter can be a little long during peak hours, but I usually buy my ammo online for pickup at their store. I've bought 2 guns as well as a transfer from PSA without any issues from this location in the last 3 months. Love how their transfer fees get decreased when you are transferring more than 1 firearm unlike other stores who charge the same rate per serial number. read more

The store in Springdale Ohio just opened and I have never been to Vance before so I thought I would check it out. They sent me a email to sign up for a chance at a Ruger gun so I did sign up for it then they sent me a email to go to Vance on Saturday March 16 between 10AM and 2 PM and go to the check in area but it did not say bring this email and so I did not get to check in. While I was there I purchased some ammo and a aerator for my bait bucket. When I got home I found that I was overcharged $10.00 for the aerator so I drove 13 miles back and found the the staff member who stock the shelf put the item in the wrong place on the shelf (they had about 12 or 14 of them there) and they said I can return it for refund and that is what I did. This was my first time visiting this Vance location as I normally shop at the one near Easton. I wanted to check out their indoor shooting range since the other ranges in town had some pretty terrible ventilation. I would give this indoor range an A+ grade since you could literally not smell any powder when you walked in or while you were shooting. This small detail really makes your experience worthwhile since you don't need to change your clothes after a shoot. The digital control for the target was really nice as well, you can set whatever distance you want with the push of a button. I found the prices to shoot were right inline with the other indoor ranges in town and you get a nice military discount for the range and ammo as well. We will definitely be coming back here to site in our other toys for sure. Great job Vance outdoors. read more

Okay so before I give this review I want to thank a certain customer service representative!!! This man went over and beyond for me and even remembered what I had order a week prior. So the day of pick up was beyond frustrating because I was working and in between tryna to pick up my firearm well both times I came up it was beyond busy and to no avail I left twice without my firearm. This is the second time we were going to purchase pistols from Vance, and the second time we are going elsewhere. This time- we were also going to sell one and wanted a rough price/percentage of msrp they offer because I didn't have mine on me and didn't want to go to the car in the rain, get it out of the car safe, unload it, etc, if they don't offer decent prices. They didn't know. I asked what if it was brand new and if I bought it yesterday. They didn't know. So I asked them to give an offer on my wife's pistol since they are the exact same, bought at the same time, both under 500 rounds. They said they can't cause it's not mine. So I reiterated to price hers. They took our ID, wrote down the serial numbers and went in the back for 3-5 minutes. He came out with no offer. Said he can't give an offer with that one. (What were they doing in the back?). said it was because the slide was different than the grip module (it's not). We explained that and still wanted a price. He yanked it off the counter and started to storm off- at which point we just told him we'd rather go someplace else. There won't be a third chance, that's for sure. Maybe they are big enough they don't care about the $2400 we spent last time or the $1000 we planned to spend today. Who knows. read more

Went on Friday just after lunch with my wife. We are novices in regards to firearms. One of my best friends a retired Special Agent with 25+ years experience recommended Vance and the Obetz location. The wait was short and the service from TROY was a master class in customer service. He was patient, listened to our questions, addressed our concerns, offered suggestions when appropriate. Cordial, pleasant and articulate. Background check was expedient. I would encourage customers to look up the 4473 form and familiarize themself with the questions and answers needed. In closing it was a great experience. In today's world that is less the case any longer. I am certain the people working the counter are all professional but I can tell you if you are fortunate enough to get TROY, you will be blessed. And additionally our clerk at the register ANGELA just topped out our experience. She was informative, pleasant and advised us about how to secure the rebate on our purchase. read more

I'm a regular here, thus 3 stars iso 5, today it's PAINFULLY slow. 45 mins waiting in line to purchase merchandise, not firearms. I spoke with a manager who looked in a pissy mode, Mark, about the slow process, and his response was -let me put it this way- quite unpleasant and not something I expected. The staffs are always nice, but this guy is something else. And that's one of the reason I moved my membership to its competitor, SPB. I'd like to stay here, but the long and unorganized waiting time is absolutely not worth my business. Vance's website indicates available stock for each of their locations. The items I was looking for were in-stock at the Obetz location. I drove from Cincinnati to Obetz just after viewing the stock status online only to discover that their website is grossly incorrect. None of the several items (ammo) that I wanted were in stock. I asked two employees. They said, nope, we don't have it. But be sure to look over there, there, and there. What? Yes, Vance's has the same caliber ammo in more than one place. I saw S&W .40 in not 1, not 2, and not 3 places, but in 4 different places, all different isles, end-caps, etc. I've never seen anything like this crappy layout before coming to Vance's. So not having what came for, I grabbed a few items for which I didn't need, but could use. I found my way to the end of the check-out line. The line hardly moved in 10 minutes. There were about 25 people ahead of me. Realizing the wait was not worth what I was buying, I stepped out of line to return everything to their shelf and leave. As a I passed the check-out lanes, there were more than one, but only one lane was staffed. Hence the incredibly slow moving check-out lane. BTW, this was Saturday which I believe is the busiest day for in-person retail. This was my first experience with Vance Outdoors. My impression is that it is a poorly managed operation which lacks in several areas including communication via the website. And one last thing, I called ahead before making the long drive. No one actually answered the phone beyond an automated voice mail system. Will I be back to Vance's? Nope, not a chance. read more

Dropped by on a late Friday morning and the place was moderately busy. All sales persons at the counter were with a customer but after approximately a 10 minute wait, I was helped. Their flyer brought me in, and I knew exactly what I wanted. The rifle I came in for was in stock, and I was then instructed to fill out a background check. This process took approximately 35 to 40 minutes to hear back from. Once cleared, I was led to the checkout area by my salesman. The entire process took approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes. I'd expect a busier day on the weekend to take longer. All in all, a good experience. read more

First trip to Vance. I made the trip to Columbus from Cincinnati with the thought if stocking up on some handgun ammunition. Before making the trip I checked the Vance website regarding stock availability. A multitude of items were shown as being in stock so I felt confident making the lengthy drive of a hundred or so miles. I arrived at the Obetz location less than two (2) hours after checking website stock levels. Upon arrival and when entering I was advised all gun sales were stopped. Of the dozen items I viewed online seeing "In Stock" at the Obetz location a total of one (1) were actually in stock. Moral of the story.......great store for outdoorsman but be very careful with online reported stock levels and lengthy drives to procure. One other significant negative is the fact that store will not support out of town patrons by placing an item on hold even if it is paid for in advance. read more

Then went to the range, they incorrectly stated that a PISTOL needed a third point of contact (meaning a brace or stock) and that pistols without one are not permitted. Fuds, uneducated, stupid. Can't say enough about how well we are treated by this store (and their sister stores as well). My 1st question to anyone would be, "why would you go anywhere else to purchase a firearm?" This is the MOST knowledgeable staff of any gun stores we have ever been too. The experience level of their people is incredible. One great thing about them is the sales people DO NOT Work on commission so they are More than happy to answer any and all of your questions for you, and in no way try to "push" you towards something you don't want. We made several trips "just looking" before we purchased and never felt pressured into buying something right away if we weren't ready ! My wife did the "try it before you buy it" program (at their range)on All her recent purchases and so did I on my newest gun. What a great idea, as you actually shoot the gun BEFORE you commit to buying it. There is a $10 fee BUT it is totally refunded to you if you buy the gun (great program) The range is a state of the art facility (that is well ventilated) and is staffed by some of the best people you will find and they definitely know how to run a SAFE range. They monitor the lanes at all times and I can guarantee you won't find a "safer" environment to shoot in anywhere! On top of great service from a great staff, their prices are outstanding and they stand behind what they sell. We bought a RUGER LCP II .380 pistol as our 3 rd gun purchase from them (in under a month) and took it home only to find it was constantly jamming and not ejecting the casings. We went back the next day and got one of the salesmen and explained our situation and told him we were very worried about this "jamming" situation and he said "no problem, let's go to the range and see what's going on". So we went to the range and he tried to fire it and he found the same issues as we had earlier. He showed us his personal LCP II and told us he had never had an issue with it and explained that something wasn't right with ours. I believe at ANY other store their solution would have been "well we will box it up and send it back to the manufacturer and see what they say". Not at this store, he immediately got us another new gun and replaced ours and said "we'll let the manufacturer take care of this problem". Now that's customer service ! Like I said try and get that service from a "big box" store or "farm supply" store ......not gonna happen. We have just purchased our 4th gun in 4 months from them and we will NOT go anywhere else to purchase our firearms! *on a side note, my wife has been the buyer of three of the four guns we have recently purchased from this store and that says a lot about the "comfort level" you feel in this store especially since she had never picked up a weapon until 8 months ago and was scared to death to walk into a "gun store". I decided to get my other half a new gun for Christmas and I've heard great things about Vance's so we came here. They had a Taurus 9mm pistol on sale that we had actually looked at elsewhere and almost bought. We went in to get that gun. We waited for our number to be called (took an hour and a half) then went thru the paperwork process, only to learn that they didn't actually HAVE the gun we wanted. Our sales guy (at first) came off very rude. Responding to "Can I see these two?" With "I don't care" AFTER the paperwork was done, he got a little nicer (but was still very short with answers) But he also had to tell us that they didn't actually HAVE the gun we wanted. We talked about our price range and he then became super helpful (and it wasn't because we were spending big bucks) He actually gave us a lot of helpful information about warranties, repair turnover time and things like that. He wound up leading us to the Walther 9mm pistols. Instead of the ONE we intended to buy, we bought TWO. Sales guy came down $20 on the price of one of them too. We came to very much appreciate his honesty and information, even if he didn't seem even remotely friendly. He helped us get the best bang for our buck. Literally Then he took us to the front to check out. We were in line and a cashier from another little register around the corner said "Next" so we went over. She rang up our ammo and my bf says "I have two guns up here too". She sighed very heavily and said "Well I wish you woulda told me that before I started"....WHAT?! You said Next and we were next. You could've ASKED if we also had guns to purchase if that was important information. While she was getting our guns, another employee asked if we were being helped. I said (loud enough for her to hear) "Yes, although not very happily" at this point, I was just tired of being talked rudely to while handing these people a large chunk of money that I worked hard for. She hears me then proceeds to be obviously FAKE nice, which just made it worse. I get that it was about closing time, just days before Christmas so you're probably getting killed and are super busy (tho our sales guy said it was a "slow" night so they should be used to it) Trust me, after being there for THREE hours (without being paid for it), I wanted to leave too. But I didn't choose your job for you so I don't deserve to suffer when you're not happy doing it. I work in a very demanding position myself, where I deal with the public (many times in emergency or sad situations) and no matter how exhausted I am, I try not to put that on the people who are choosing to spend their money at my place of business. I gave three stars because I do know for sure that we got an excellent deal on our guns. And we left with guns that were much better than what we intended to buy. I've heard that the people at the other Vance's are very nice so maybe next time, I'll go there...or to a completely different business. Haven't decided yet. read more

Had a long, drawn-out experience at the Obetz location today. I wish I could give a less than zero rating. Long story short, I provided my official orders, military CAC, LE credentials, out-of-state driver's license, and in-state vehicle registration, and they refused to sell me a gun without a marriage certificate since my official orders were amended. All this after I drove two hours out of my way to buy the gun. I was prepared to spend $1,000+ and left empty handed. I will never return or recommend any military or LEOs there. Left and bought the gun elsewhere the same night with the exact same documentation. I will say, Matt and a younger gentlemen were courteous and kind as they played messenger throughout the ridiculous ordeal. read more

I've been to this location multiple times with my boyfriend and we have a great time. They get us into the range pretty fast because they save our waver so we don't have to keep signing one. They have more lanes than shoot point blank and LAPD. They also have newer technology for moving your target back and forth. They have a membership that you pay for, if you pay annually it's $250. If you paid monthly it's $40. So definitely worth the $250 if you shoot often like we do. Membership gets you one free guest per visit, Discounted rates on training classes, free hearing and eye equipment, and free target. Comes with a few other things but these are the main perks. Military gets 10% off and regular price would be $20 per hour. Everyone here has always been friendly and helpful. They have lots of outdoor equipment for hunting and lots of products like YEIT cups. Got back from this place and I had tons of fun. I bought the Ruger SR9 and my dad bought a Mosberg 22. I put two boxes of bullets through mine and no problem. However, my dad couldn't fire his. A worker came up and gave it a try and he had the same problem. They took it to the back to investigate the spring and it was the bullets. They gave him a box on the house for the trouble and it worked perfectly. So Winchester bullets is a no go on that gun. CCI worked perfectly. The customer service was great with some people, but just a couple of them had the I don't want to be here today attitude. I had no problem getting checked out like a different yelp reviewer said because it was not too busy today which was Tuesday so try them around the afternoon. I hope that helps everyone out. Store is large and clean. Firearms staff is knowledgeable and helpful, but definitely overwhelmed. Huge demand right now, and not enough of them to keep up. A snowy Tuesday around 1 and my wait was still an hour, doesn't sound too bad right - no it sucks because you have to stay in line! even though they give you number you cannot browse the store while you wait, absolutely ridiculous. Processing time is about average, 10 mins. If you know what you want the door person can confirm inventory before you get in the line, it was accurate in my case, after hour wait my choice was in stock. If you are just shopping and not firearm hunting there was no line. Other staff where half heart-ed about assistance and lacking in knowledge of items and locations. More than once I've been told they don't know, or 'I don't think so' and I've gone on to find it myself. Looking for ammo you better search the store, its not all on the proper shelf, pallets on the floor, up front on a table, anywhere they can get it out. Pricing is high, but that is the market's fault. Overall its a fair experience but you won't be blown away. read more
