For starters, it's just a wonderful use of what was dead space underneath the subway overpass. It can be a little noisy, but shade on a hot summer day is pretty clutch. Perhaps it's because my kids are still little, but we get a whole lot of use out of the southern side of the park with the swings, jungle gyms, and splashpad. As it's fairly new (5-6 years old or so?), these things are still state of the art and a lot of fun for the kiddos. We've also had plenty of luck hosting birthday parties there, as it's not nearly as mobbed as Carroll Park a few blocks north. I also look forward to when we can take more advantage of the basketball courts, turf field, and maybe even the skate park on the north side of the space. Really, just an excellent playground to have in the area.

Divided by Nelson St you get a combination of little kids to big kids to adult fun options. The South side has excellent playground equipment that is generally protected from a lot of the direct elements (think rainy day play). Cross over to the North side and you have some turf area for small soccer or similar. Short gated directly next to that there is a 3' mini ramp, rail and box features for the skate rat in you (or your kid). A small "exercise " area divides the skate zone from the half court basketball net. All of the North has a jogging/biking/walking track around the enclosed park. Considering it was a slog to complete and it's proximity to my home I'm loving St. Mary's!

There's ladders, slides, and swings. An interesting history about it. It's a small playground named in honor of Simon Boerum, whose family had a farm on this site. This guy also was a member of the Continental Congress for the State of New York. Formerly it used to include a parking lot for the school next to it. In 2001 money was raised to renovate the park, which added a basketball court, tennis court, and playground. Also there's a spray shower shaped like a beehive. There's a couple bee structures on each side of this. Good way to keep children entertained. It's not a big park but it's got enough inside it. The park is in a pretty safe area for visitors.

It's very well-rounded, with a tree lined walkway that bisects the playground area from a nice blacktop (excellent for scooting/biking/other rolling around), jungle gyms that cater to different ages, and lots of benches and tables to sit, party, or do whatever. Unlike the nearby Carroll Park, Boerum Park is also not completely hectic and packed every time it's nice out. It's still NYC, don't get me wrong, but the line for the swings (baby seats only) is often non-existent, and always manageable. Sure, there was that one time that there was human feces sitting in the corner, but to the credit of the NYC Parks Department, that shit was cleaned up within hours. This park also holds a special place in my heart as it was here, on a sunny Saturday, that the whole neighborhood just started cheering because we found out that a certain orange person lost their job. And it was glorious.

The fenced back portion of the park consists of a courtyard with rest rooms. There are also two fenced play areas, one for smaller children, with jungle gyms and swings. One side of the park faces the neighborhood Carroll School. Could this technically be the front of the park? The park is fine for use in the neighborhood. But it would benefit from an update and sprucing up. New brighter colored playground equipment, a sand area and more benches would be a great start.

We were on our 4th game of 5 on 5 on this slanted, slippery court with double rims as the Midtown skyline looked over us. We had gone 3-0 and already on wobbly legs but wanted one more to really push ourselves to exhaustion and be WHOOPED. A group of 5 17 year olds showed up and I was lowkey like damn I don't wanna play these little kids for our last game but whatever, they got next. We were going back and forth, and to be fair they were actually pretty good but just too frail to give us any problems. At 5'10 174 lbs, I'm a BIG guard. I'm left handed, but shot a right handed floater fading to my right as I'm trying to get better. If you can hit a weak hand floater on the run you will be tough to stop. I bricked it and this little 17 year old kid goes "that's a TERRIBLE shot" looking at me dead in the eyes. Like bro y'all are losing and you suck why you talking? He woke me up and I started actually trying really hard and lowkey busting their ass... but tbh normally I'm not even that good. It was just one of those days where everything was falling. I hit a 3 and yelled out "THAT'S A LAYUP." I drove hard left, euro stepped and hit a tough finish through 2 and yelled "I"M TOO BIG," while flexing. I switched onto little homie and he took a terrible stepback shot after I turned him 3 times and bricked it. I just whispered to him "I don't even gotta say nothing after that one it speaks for itself" which really pissed him off. Then I hit the game winning 3 and did the Dame wave to him as he walked off the court PISSED as hell. I sat down and then he got the courage to say "STOP TALKING SO MUCH" while he put his hand together to mimic me YAPPING. I almost stood up and said "HOW BOUT U GET WIN?" But then I realized I'm a grown ass man and there is absolutely no reason to be jawing at this little kid on a beautiful Friday in New York City. I just kind of laughed at myself and asked what is wrong with me lol. All in all, these runs were kind of weak and this court is in horrendous condition. I visited the 86 Kent Ave section of Bushwick Inlet Park to spend some time exploring the…read morewaterfront before attending the Summer Music in BIP 2026 concert featuring the George Gray Jazz Coalition. It was a lovely way to spend an evening. The park is lush and well designed, with lots of green space and flowers in bloom. Its waterfront esplanade is a pretty place for a walk, especially as the sun starts to set over the Manhattan skyline. I wandered up the raised slope at the street side of the park, which provides fantastic views across the East River. The elevated area where the jazz performance took place sits right on the water and made for a special setting to enjoy live music. A lot is packed into this section of the park. There's a large soccer field, public restrooms, water bottle filling stations, and a children's play area with shade and water features. I enjoyed seeing the small sandy beach, and BIP connects directly with Marsha P. Johnson Park, so there's even more to see as you walk and enjoy even waterfront green space. I also appreciated researching the site's transformation from an industrial area into a public park with restored natural features. It feels like a space that is actively working to improve and serve the neighborhood, and is well worth a visit. Let's hope monster development projects don't stop the park's promise from expanding even further.

Prelude- I was so impressed by these four playgrounds and each design that I felt this place…read moredeserve its own review thread instead of mixing it in the general "Brooklyn Bridge Park" reviews. Over all this new section call Pier 6 is not at all complete; I'm disappointed but the four themed playgrounds are completed and it is FABULOUS. Yelper who have young child or are parents if you did not take your child ( 2 to 12 years) to these playgrounds they will miss a opportunity of a life time. These four playgrounds are like a mini-amusement park for free. If you take a child there they will love forever and ever until they become teenagers. Five stars for the design and builder of these playgrounds. This place is a child's dream to be able to play in this fantastic public playground! I being a geek can't help loving this place but how do I describe them? I think it is best through pictures and a quick description to start you: 1) Slide Mountain- the slides are wonder and fun. There a several that are at different heights. I even saw adults sneak down the slides and screaming like their child. 2) Sandbox Village- great for smaller kids; the wooden choo-choo train is so cute and there are several mini-bungalows for the kids to play in. 3) Water Lab- you will get wet, you want to get wet and it is so must fun. 4) Swing valley- fantastic landscaping and banked walls but don't let the little ones run into the moving swings.
