This venue is beautiful, unique, serene, secluded, intimate and just overall, perfect. If you want a peaceful and intimate wedding it would be this venue. I've been looking all around for a perfect venue something that offers so much beauty. I always wanted a garden wedding but when I saw this venue I was in love. It's basically like a garden to me even tho it's a ranch because this has so much plants PLUS they have animals! They have black Labradors & they're so well trained! Super cute plus we also rented a horse for photos! He was such a sweet horse! Overall, My wedding was magical and dreamy. It was so perfect. I could say so much more but perfection would be the best to define it. Pros: the package you pay for includes food, service, assistants/servers, casita/bridal suite, grooms suite, whole ranch to use, lots of space for parking, aisle walking distance to the barn for reception, chairs, tables, & etc. it's a good package deal. Cons: I wouldn't say it's cons but more like what's not included in the package: coordinator, photographer, bartender, decoration, dessert/cake, florist, dj, music equipments, and liquor/alcohol for reception. Basically you would need to find your own for those but it is not bad and it's easy because she has a whole list for you to choose from when you sign up for the venue and contract. Cons also would be the darkness after the reception haha but it's manageable. Others cons would be no signal for the most part but it's a good thing so people focus on the day and not social media/phone connection. I wanted it unplugged anyway. I have no complains though. It was just BEAUTIFUL & I had lots of out of state guests & they all loved it! They complimented how beautiful my wedding was & the venue made it more magical and dreamy. The food was delicious. Carolyn is such a kind hearted, beautiful person inside and out. I loved her since the first day I met her until my wedding and even until now. She is a sweetheart & responds to email quickly. I cannot say enough how absolutely perfect Van Dickson Ranch was for our wedding day... Carolyn was so sweet and generous throughout the entire process - from start to finish! Great communication and the pricing was very reasonable in comparison to other places we toured. Loved that the food was included - and while there is no options for the menu (set menu) The food was ABSOLUTELY delicious! We got rave reviews from all our guests. Carolyn also provided some great recommendations for other vendors. Would highly recommend to hire the shuttle service as the venue is quite out of the way- it made for such a smooth process to safely get all our guests to and from the wedding. Throughout the day the staff was incredibly helpful and accommodating. They would literally bend over backwards to make the day go smoothly! This was the best day of our lives and I am so happy we chose to spend it here at Van Dickson ranch! read more

When our daughter choose the venue in Prescott for her wedding reception we liked it well enough for the reception but simply could not see our daughter getting married on a stage. Her father said his cathedral was in nature! Van Dickson ranch could not have been more perfect We decided to pay for both venues. Van Dickson Ranch is an all inclusive venue but we had our own cater selected and liked the idea of being in town for the party. So we choose both locations. Carolyn was most helpful in arranging shuttles and a limo. She provided the perfect ceremony location and a cute house for the groomsmen to hang out in. She sent us photos from time to time. She was helpful in offering options for chair and bench set up. The day of could not have been smoother. The two gentleman with carts were also super helpful with guests. And anything we needed. The longhorns even chimed in with a moo or two as the couple said I do! read more

Our wedding was in the middle of October and the venue was beautiful! We wanted to escape Phoenix, so the Van Dickson Ranch was a nice change of pace. It rained off and on all day and was perfectly chilly. The clouds, greenery, and sound of the rain was amazing. They had so many backup plans in place that the weather forecast did not bother us in the slightest. The receptions here are typically under a pavilion, but if the weather is bad during the ceremony the wedding will be under the pavilion. The Ranch also has backup generators, so if the power goes out, you wouldn't even know. Having a venue so ready to face any challenge we might have was very stress-relieving. There is enough to worry about on your wedding day, so you shouldn't have to worry about the weather. The food tasted amazing! The meat was so tender and delicious! When we initially visited, it was the day before a wedding and we were given a look at the food they typically cook. We were so happy not to have to find a caterer, especially with BBQ being my favorite type of food. We should have eaten before our appointment because it smelled way too good to not eat! Their staff was so polite every time anyone needed anything they were happy to help. You never felt like a bother approaching the staff for help. They were especially helpful when any of the wedding party needed a golf cart ride back to the dressing rooms. They had to drive us back and forth a few times when someone forgot something and even thought to dry off the back seat before people sat in rainwater. Had such a beautiful wedding here. Bridal room was amazing to get ready in and the ranch was absolutely stunning. Had some issues like the mens room. The shower smelt like rotten eggs and the water never got warm for the boys to take a shower in. It was time for me to go down the aisle and one of the cowboys almost took me too early and my husband almost saw me before I walked down. Amazing ceremony took pictures then went to the reception. Food was outstanding! Power went out about 3 times at the reception for about 5 minutes each time. Had conflict with the bartender Coreen van Orden. We had to use her because Carolyn had issues in the past with other bartenders. From the moment I had to talk with Coreen she was nothing but negative. Complaining about champagne flutes, beer kegs, and cups. I made her job very easy with just having to pour off the daiquiri machine and kegs. No mixed drinks or anything and she still complained. We had rented some daiquiri machines that Coreen knew about! It got all set up and before Coreen plugged it in she poured all the concentrate and alcohol and then plugged it in and it didn't work. She didn't mention to the venue that they would need the generator to run them. So we gave her all the alcohol we had with us to make us mixed drinks to let the show go on. She was utterly rude to all of my guests that walked up. She rolled her eyes at everyone and had this mean look on her face all night long. The moment I came up (bride) she started spilling out everything that was going wrong. It is very unprofessional to do that to a bride on her wedding day. We also asked Coreen to not put up a tip jar since we will be tipping her 20% at the end of the night. We wanted our honeymoon fund up there and there was no point in putting up a tip jar if we were paying her to serve our guests with a tip on top of the total. Not only that but she was arguing with my mom before the ceremony. Completely unprofessional! I really hope Van Dickson finds a new bartender to work with because she was completely rude to everyone. I have asked for some refund from her since she ruined $300 to $400 worth of concentrate and alcohol, she hasn't responded. This venue was a hidden little gem but there was definitely some issues. This wedding venue is amazing! Being new to the area, and needing to find a venue for my daughter's wedding, a neighbor recommended the VDR. From the moment I had my first communication with Carolyn and Paul, my daughter and I were convinced this was the right venue. Here comes the real amazing part...Paul and Carolyn have hosted 125 weddings and none of them have ever been rained on...until our wedding. Monsoon season was supposed to be over, but several bouts of downpours started right at wedding time. After a couple of attempts to begin the outdoor ceremony, our 75 guests were huddled under the eaves of Paul and Carolyn's home to stay out of the rain. All of a sudden, the double doors to their home burst open, and there was Carolyn telling everyone to go into their home. So 75 wet guests went into their personal home; where a beautiful, impromptu wedding ceremony took place. Now an even more amazing part...We had a live band playing into the night under the tent on the polo field. Then, again, another downpour! What we didn't know until later in the evening was that electrical power in the entire valley had gone out during the reception. It was unnoticed because Paul had the portable kitchen generator at the ready. Once it went out and the backup generator kicked in, he retrieved 2 other generators to allow the reception festivities to continue. It was a pretty awesome sight once everyone realized the entire valley's power was out... ...except for one single, brightly lit, music filled, festivity laden, reception tent on the Van Dickson Ranch. Oh...and the barbeque meal was delicious. What an exciting and memorable day and night. Thanks SO much to Paul and Carolyn for going above and beyond what was contracted. read more

We cannot say enough good things about the ranch, the amazing help, and all Carolyn did to make sure the day went smooth. From the start of first contacting Carolyn she responded promptly and gave us dates to come visit with all of the information we could possibly need. Carolyn provided us with so many options for the ranch where we didn't have to look elsewhere for venue decorations, possible resources, and other accommodations for our day. With all of the help she provided us in the beginning, there was definitely no need to have a wedding planner with how much work she has put into her business. When it came closer to the wedding, she was checking with us to make sure if there was anything else we needed before our day, what else we needed to follow up on with her, and how the day would go. On the day of the wedding, Carolyn understood things were busy and everything was happening all over, but kept such a calm demeanor throughout it all and was such a major help if things did come up. The day went so smoothly and I cannot say thank you enough to Carolyn as she made sure and helped so much beforehand to be able to make the day as magnificent and easy as she possibly could. read more

I'm the type of person who hates going to weddings and almost didn't except a friend's invite for their daughter's a couple of months ago, but with my daughter being part of the wedding party I felt obligated. Now that my daughter, who lives in Phoenix, is planning her wedding I'm glad that I did and know where she is going to enjoy her big day. First of all, Van Dickson's Ranch is beautiful, stunning in fact. It is impossible not to be affected by the mountain views and relaxing atmosphere. The staff's courtesy and attention to detail was just as impressive. My friend kept me informed during the process of planning the big day and he was impressed with how professional and kind the owners were. They took what could have been stressful and time consuming and made it enjoyable. As a guest I had to admit that this was the first time I have attended a wedding and be impressed. The food was wonderful. Some of the best BBQ I have enjoyed. What impressed me the most was the overall atmosphere the owners were able to create, fun with a sense of celebration but still relaxed. read more

When booking with the Van Dickson Ranch, do not use Coreen Van Orden for your bartending services. She is a suggested vendor by the venue, however, I highly suggest you do not utilize her. After collecting my money, she failed to communicate with me and stopped responding to my emails or calls. I advised her that I did not want her services any longer and she refused to return my $375 down payment (I advised I wished to cancel 6 months before the wedding). No where in her contract does it have any statement about cancelled events nor does it state she is unwilling to return payments made. I advised her that her contract does not comment on refunds and she simply told me she was not going to give me my money back. She was extremely rude and unprofessional and clearly needs assistance creating a legal contract. It's not worth the headache nor the cost for her services. read more

Seeing those really showed how well Paul and Carolyn handled everything from start to finish. The other weddings were improvised skits in comparison.
