We had our daughter's wedding here on a beautiful October day just a few weeks ago. We couldn't have been happier with the venue, the staff, the service, or the food. From the planning to the rehearsal to the day we arrived at the event Tony and his crew could not have been more accomodating. Stephanie, the on-site coordinator, undeniably loves her job and it shows! She was so helpful and always there to answer any questions we had. We had an unfortunate debacle with the florist we hired and without hesitation Stephanie jumped into action the day of the wedding making suggestions, offering solutions, and providing support. Because of her my daughter had fresh flowers on her cake which would have otherwise been naked due to the florist's mistakes. She truly went above and beyond for us! Our daughter and her fiance chose the taco bar buffet menu. I have to tell you I was not thrilled with their choice before the event but after seeing the quantities provided, the amount of fresh toppings, and tasting everything I was very pleased! Our guests could not stop commenting how great the food was! The room change over from buffet to dancing went really smoothly and we hardly noticed it was happening. Their wait staff was constantly clearing tables and tidying up and Stephanie kept everything moving according to our schedule. The bartender was lovely made great drink suggestions and made great cocktails! And what can you say about the venue itself? It was my daughter's first and only choice for her wedding after visiting the property. The scenery and landscaping are amazing, there is not one bad place to take a photo! This venue is absolutely amazing!!! My husband and I just had our wedding there this past Saturday and I can't even tell you how beautiful this venue is!!! It is so lush and green, there were even baby owls in the a tree! The place is absolutely gorgeous! The guests were blown away by this place and didn't want to leave! I'm writing this review both as a guest of the wedding and the fact that my wife was also in the wedding Day before the wedding: Rehearsal - they didn't let us bring alcohol or let us buy it from there bar. Fine I guess. Stephanie was very accommodating to everyone and was a great coordinator. Morning of wedding: bridal suite was filled with women getting ready and the owner Tony, had the audacity to allow people touring the property into the bridal suite to "look around". Would you want randoms coming in on your special day? Night of wedding: everything was all pretty standard until cocktail hour. I asked for a couple extra bottles of champagne for our table. I even tipped the senior citizen wait staff to accommodate. Tony then came back with my tip and said " this isn't a club you can't just order bottles" what a joke. He also decided to close the bar 45 min before the wedding ended Overall the area stinks. Ubers do not exist and lodging is questionable at best. This place isn't cheap and there are much better options elsewhere. Tony needs to work on his attitude. You would think the guy, especially during COVID wants to make money and treat his patrons with grace and respect. He seemed annoyed the whole day and night. A person more cynical than I am, a difficult feat, might knock this place because it is "contrived" beauty. Everything from the lake to the gardens are man made and maintained. But I love it here. I think that the grounds and the building are absolutely gorgeous. It is pretty difficult to locate the Windmill House if you aren't familiar with the area. Chino Valley is a sprawling small town and almost completely pitched black at night. This place appears like a mirage out of the otherwise barren landscape and is almost as difficult to find. I have only visited the Windmill House for their Friday Night Fish Fry. But as I understand, it is available to rent for more elegant events. The fish fry was just alright. It was buffet style, something that I am morally opposed to, and they kept running out of food. The fish was pretty decent, and the cornbread was certainly the best part. I honestly didn't care much about the food because the surrounding area was just so beautiful. I would love to return to the Windmill House next time I am around the Chino Valley area. read more

Shockingly poor. Like a bad movie, I kept waiting, wondering when the, "ah-ha, now I get it" moment would appear. It didn't. From the moment we guessed which sliding door to enter, I felt like we were crashing somebody's party. Nobody welcomed us. It was a banquet room set up with a buffet service on the dance floor. You overpay a cashier by the correct sliding door and get meal tickets. There's a too loud duo of live music and an under stocked bar. The included beverages are on the other side of the dance floor. There's a lot of waiting. A lot of "excuse me's". A lot of confusion. I just read two other reviews from the same night, both 5 stars, I just don't get it. Maybe I'm a few decades too young to enjoy the atmosphere. Maybe I crave efficiency too much to be able to appreciate the dinner service. Or maybe I value a happy and courteous staff too much to get what the hype is about. My advice: don't go, but if you do go, put it on your plate even if you don't know if you'll want it because if you don't you won't have an opportunity to go back and get it. I.e,, Eight-tenths through the buffet table were baked potatoes (yum), the sour cream however was at the beginning of the buffet - aka impossible to get back to. The venue is absolutely incredible ANY time of year! I just had my wedding here last weekend and it could not have been more perfect. The owner is incredible was on top of communicating with me (the anxious bride) answered all my questions promptly and made us all feel comfortable and confident in booking this venue. His assistant Stephanie is literally an angel! She helped me and all my bridesmaid with any needs we had before our ceremony and knew what we needed before we did. Hosted our daughter's wedding at The Windmill House. First class all the way. A beautiful venue, delicious food and friendly attentive staff. All we had to do was show up and have a good time. The bridal party took advantage of the beauty surrounding the facility and had amazing pictures taken. We served the BBQ buffet and had zero complaints while enjoying generous portions of brisket and pulled pork. The staff helped with last minute decorating requests with helpful suggestions. We have been to the Windmill House a few times since they reopened this year. We even had our wedding there in 2012 out on their beautiful island. However, this last Friday's fish fry dinner marked a low point in a downward trend in their buffet service. I shared the following with the WH manager: The "fried" fish was at once soggy and over done to the point of being burnt in places. A tough trick. They ran out of coleslaw an hour before closing so we didn't get that. Last time we were there for the fry, the French frustrating were still frozen inside. I was afraid to try the potato salad as I know what can happen if it is not handled properly. We don't expect much from the WH, but we expect decent food. The manager wanted to refund our money. I said no. He offered to have us come back at his expense so I accepted. I will update this review then. read more

If there was the ability to give Windmill House a 10 star rating that's exactly what i would give! This place was hands down the perfect choice of venue for our wedding! The green of the trees and the peacefulness of the pond with the perfect view of the windmill from ceremony island painted the fairytale backdrop for our big day. And the reception hall look fantastic and held the most amazing dinner and post wedding party that will most definitely remain in the memories of all who were there. Not exactly white table cloth but for $10 we had a good meal that was tasty and plentiful. The service was prompt and friendly. We had a casual, enjoyable evening. We will be going back to try other evenings ( we were there Wednesday for Italian). The grounds are beautiful and a nice after dinner walk is highly recommended. read more

Dear Northern AZ Friends, I should have written this rave review months ago. I have attended three classy perfect Northern AZ Weddings at Windmill House in 2016 and I can't wait to be back there to attend a fourth special event there on a Saturday in 2017. First of all, as a wedding venue, the "ceremony space" out by the mature trees and green foliage/duck pond was stunning(and a rare treat in AZ). The cocktail/social hour (while the bride and groom took family pictures out by the pond) was on their gorgeous patio of a custom looking "Tuscan Themed" architecture buidling and stone patio that had games for all, background music and views of the 13,000 foot San Francisco Peaks near Flagstaff 50 miles away. Breathtaking. Dallas the bartender was warm and made professional drinks with a smile. When dinner service started, the buffet of prime rib, and salads and several sides was to die for. The fettucini dish had to be refilled every few minutes because it was al dente enough to be perfect and sauce was awesome. (I was curious about the fettucini and when I asked Event Manager Tony, i found out the fettucini was the chef's personal recipe) The staff hosting the wedding were super organized classy and professional and kept the music volume great and the event "Flowing"..........Yes, if I were to pick a Yavapai County/Prescott Area/or northern AZ special events venue, this would be the one. I was really excited when the place was going to reopen. Now don't get me wrong it was never a place of great food but it was different and ok to go to once in awhile. Now in its new reopen state it is a joke. Over priced slop, I've been there twice now and the food has actually gotten worse. The fish fry is so bad I would never recommend it to anyone. The chicken is wet and tasteless and all the side dishes were remenecent of a bad pot luck. On top of that the menu changes and they refuse to update there website, so you don't know what you will get until you arrive. These folks should never be allowed to cook and serve food......ever. read more

I wanted to go to see if they got better since they re-opened. I was sadly disappointed. I could not cut the fish with my fork...it was rubbery. Fried food in a steam table does not work!! Since the change of management, this place has gone to the dogs. While at an event there, the "host" Dean sat in his office eating pizza with some of his buddies while the sprinkler system ran and flooded out the gazebo area (were a photographer was trying to set up and their equipment got wet). When asked multiple times if something could be done about the sprinklers, Dean's answer was that the system was on a timer and he could not shut it off. The guy supposedly runs the place and has no clue how to shut off the sprinklers that are running just minutes before an event is to start? I think not! Went on a Sunday to their outdoor, western town, family fun day. No admission price. You get live music, horseshoes, wormhole, free train rides for kids, playground. You pay for drinks and food. Beer was $4. Not terrible considering the atmosphere and free music. The bad part came when it was time to eat. We ordered a full rack of ribs plus 2 sides for $15. (Half rack was $10) I don't know enough to realize what a full rack looks like. Hubby looked at it as I brought it to the table and said, "that's not a full rack". He's not one to complain, but I made him go talk to the guy that gave them to me. Apparently they cut the racks into thirds. Why, when they offer a half and a whole? So guy says there are 20 ribs on a rack, we had 9. After some discussion, we got another larger portion. So almost a full rack, I guess. There was no consistency between the 2 offerings. First was overcooked and tender. Second was tough and hard to get off the bone. So the rib experience was off-putting. Hoping it's not their habit to rip people off. It's nice to have a nice place in Chino Valley to go to. read more

We have been to the Windmill House 3 times now and each time it has been better than the last. So far the Prime Rib dinner has been the best. A very large slice of Prime Rib, with all the fixings. As mentioned before, the grounds may be "man made" however it is very peaceful and we go for the food. Great service also. read more
