I bought a used 95 Firebird from them and had the standard used car warranty. The AC didn't work within a couple of weeks after I purchased it. The AC and components were not covered under their used car warranty but they fixed it with a new compressor and a few other parts and did not charge me!! I have been using service here for many years, purchased one new Chevy from them also. It has been so disappointing over the past year or so that as someone who generally does not write reviews I feel compelled to this time. They don't follow up.....and they just don't show any value in communicating with their customers. For the second time in a year and a half I have had a car sit waiting for service for no reason whatsoever for weeks at a time. I'm on week 4 and they don't update you as promised (EVER). It doesn't matter to them that they can let a customer have their vehicle and bring it in when they are ready (with part of the time to do it) they think its ok for someone to have a car sit on their lot just to be in line to get work done. Absolute BS and to have no idea when or if its going to end without being the one to make call after call is a joke. read more

Difficult to get service any sooner than 2 weeks, sometimes longer. Also, waiting for service can be daunting. Even when on time it seems to take longer than it should. The reason I stopped going was two issues. One was they said I had a recall issue regarding my sliding back window, but when I brought my truck in they were missing a part for the repair. When I brought the truck back a second time, they took a while, but then the window seems to no longer defrost, like the electrical connection is broken. The next thing that upset me was I had them swap my wheels with a new set I bought from a 2020. I was told initially that they were a match, but then later that the TPMS sensors weren't compatible, forcing me to buy new ones. I told them I wanted the old ones back, but I never got them. Every time I go to the showroom to look at & discuss purchasing a Corvette I find it very difficult to find a salesman that is interested in helping with my looking / finding details about high-end Z06s / discussing purchasing details. I showed interest in driving & possibly purchasing a C6Z06 as soon as the weather breaks. The people at the dealership seemed as though it was a bother to take down my information to get in touch with me when they will have time to let me look at the vehicle in more detail. They didn't even offer to open the car up or pop the hood... I've owned several Z06s & dealers have always made my purchasing experience an excellent one but not at Van Bortel. The salespeople at this dealership make it obvious that they feel I'm wasting their time (even when I'm the only possible customer in the showroom). The employees that work on the vehicles as well as detail cars here are outstanding. I do wish management + sales would live up to the quality of the service team. I will be purchasing a new car for the track/show but sad to say I will not purchase from this dealer due to their consistent ability of making me feel as though I do not belong there & that their cars are somehow out of my reach... Honest review after several visits over the last year. I never feel welcome to look at cars that this dealer has for sale. MH read more

By far the worst experience I've ever had with a car dealership or service center and if I could I would give them 0 stars. I bought my car from Van Bortel 2 years ago and have already have had so many problems and had to pay so much in repairs, and the car is a 2018 with 40,000 miles. Last year I brought my car in to the service center and was charged $1,300 for a repair they did not even fix. Then 2 and a half months ago my car completely stopped working and I had to have my car towed to the service center. After a month and $850 in repairs I was finally able to pick up my car on a Monday. They told me to drive my car around for a few days and then bring it back so it could pass inspection. I brought the car back that Thursday (3 days after picking up my car) and they told me my car was unsafe to drive. The car that they had just finished repairs on and given my 3 days prior, was UNSAFE to drive. A month and a half has now passed since the second time they took my car (2 and a half months in total) and they still do not even know what the issue is with my car. A month and a half later and they do not even know what is wrong with my car, let alone starting repairs on it. When I call the location they will transfer you to voicemail or if you do get ahold of someone I've been told the tech is out for the day so they don't have any answers. They are all out of rental cars so I have not received anything to drive for the 2 and a half months that my car is in the shop. The fact that 2 and a half months later I still do not have my car, a rental car or even an answer on what is wrong with my car is absurd to me. The difficulty of trying to even get an employee on the phone is mind boggling. I would never recommend their service center to anyone or recommend buying a car from them, given how many issues I've had with the car I bought from them. If you do choose to use them, look forward to not having a car or answers for months on end. read more

I don't even want to give them a star even! I had booked an appointment earlier this week telling Chuck ____ I was coming from over a 2 1/2 hour drive to test drive a GMC Acadia they had in stock. I took the time to call and say we were going to be 10 minutes late. I get there, and Chuck says someone was out test driving it! I was pissed! They never even called to let me know this. I spoke with a "manager" who showed no remorse or even professionalism towards the matter. I left. Then, they had the audacity to call me and say the person was done test driving! Lol! I said I don't do business like this feeling second rate. It just goes to show how much they "value" their potential customers. read more

Why haven't I came sooner?! I leased my car 2 years ago with bob johnson and regret it. I've gotten awful service from them so I figured I would give van Bortel a try. I called a couple days ago and spoke to a sweet lady Rachel. We were in contact for a couple days as we worked pretty opposite schedules but she always called me back within the hour with more info as we were trying to get to the bottom of my issue. They had the part I needed in stock (bob johnson didn't have it & never called me when it got in) and she was able to book me for the following day! (Today). I got to my appointment early and a lovely lady Sam checked me in and was sweet and helpful. The sales reps were finishing up a meeting but Sam was able to intake my car and finish all my paperwork. It took them 30-45 minutes to change too! Normally I would have been at bob johnson for HOURS! I met Rachel when I came to pick up my car and she was just as sweet in person as she was on the phone. She explained everything to me thoroughly and didn't make me feel bad about not knowing much about cars (bob johnson talks to me like I'm stupid for not knowing much so it was a breath of fresh air having her kindly explain to me). I don't mean to bash another company, it's just night and day with my experience and these ladies should be recognized for that. They were just doing their jobs as they do with every other client that walks in but it made me feel so amazing to get such good service from kind people. And they didn't charge me, even though my car was from another dealer, because it was still under warranty! I'm not too sure how the ins and outs of that work but it was exciting to get such great service and be under warranty. Thank you Rachel and Sam! It's a bit of a trip from my house in Rochester but it's worth it for the service. I'll be coming here exclusively now! read more

The repair on my car was fine, it was the customer service that was terrible. when I called to make the appointment I told them that I was trying out the service department because it was more convenient than where I had been going (Tradition in Newark) and that I was considering buying my next car from Van Bortel (In about a year.) I had an appointment for Wednesday so I dropped my car off Tuesday night so it was there first thing Wednesday morning. I hadn't heard anything so I called around 2 and I was told they were still 'waiting on diagnostics.' Just before 5 Pete called and said that they would need to keep the car overnight because they hadn't finished the diagnostics yet because it was hot and the guys were working slow. I was not happy and I was not really given an apology, only excuses. So the next morning Pete called again and told me it was the wheel hub and he needed to order a part so it would be another day. I understand ordering a part but what should have been a 2 day repair is now a 3 day repair. So late Friday afternoon I get another call from Pete and he tells me he is going to need to keep the car over the weekend because they again didn't get to the repair because it was hot. REALLY??? After delaying my repair already wouldn't you think he would have done everything possible to get my car fixed as soon as the part came in? So now what should have been a 2 day repair is now 6 days. So I asked for a loaner - it would have been nice if he had suggested it, but I had to ask. He did have a vehicle available for me so I picked that up. Monday afternoon I finally got the call that the repair was complete and that service was open until 5:30 and sales until 8. I got there about 5:33 and found the service door locked so I started to walk around to the sales door but Pete opened the service door and without so much as a 'hi' or 'sorry for the delay' or 'thank you for your business' all I got was 'I'll take the keys (to the loaner) and the cashier is over there (pointing).' Needless to say I will not be going back for any other service and I will definitely NOT be buying my next vehicle there. And you can bet that I will tell everyone I know what a terrible experience I had. read more
