This store is packed with clothes and home goods. The prices are OK but are higher than some other nearby thrift shops. The service is typically very slow compared to nearby places. This is the best thrift shop for clothes nearby, but I don't come here for home goods as often because they have higher prices. read more

usually have things priced reasonably. don't have hald off days frequently enough. while prices seem to be quite different from one location to another, it is not infrequent to see the same people shopping at several locations. a consistent price for each location would probably help to correct that problem. i notice that the dix highway location does not carry luggage, backpacks, etc. read more

While the customer service was great, the prices were very unreasonable. Many items could be bought brand new at the same price point. I did find a few good pieces on sale. I'm happy with my purchases but this was not a thrift experience that would make me want to return. read more

I used to have this as a store in my rotation a few times a month, now I get there a few times a year at best. Prices have skyrocketed, store is messy and service is usually hard to come by. If you come later in the day, expect to be met by long lines. Shelves have become so packed you can't even slide hangers to see anything. When I would come often, I would see the same items over and over again because of lack of turnover and high pricing. I don't need to pay $9 for basic t shirts and $30 for wal mart coats. if you are looking for a deal and you don't mind spending time digging through the Rex this is a great place to spend an hour. You'll find knick knacks chachkies and all sorts of fun clothing stuck onto racks where people can just take time and look. not a great selection for furniture but they have loads of t-shirts and clothes as well as housewares. I found some of their Collectibles can be marked a bit high but if you ask for the manager you might be able to get a price markdown. The cashiers are very friendly and ring you up fast as a snap. This place actually has coupons that come out in the local paper you just have to watch for them. I get one from the cashier when I'm in there. I've been lucky enough to find lava lamps as well as Pressed Glass and lots of vintage collectible gear every time I have come here. This is always a good $20 and the smiles afterwards are much better than if I had gone to lunch. remember when you come here have lots of time and please don't be in a hurry because they have to Cashiers and people usually have full car. The checkout process is straightforward especially if you remove your hangers in advance and fold your items with the price tag facing up so the cashiers can just take them ring them up and put them right in a bag conveniently for you. read more

For what it is and the location, I don't think the bar should be set particularly high. But it is worth a visit on a thrifting trip, especially if you have a coupon. I guess they mail coupons locally and I recently visited for the second time with a "half off your entire purchase" coupon. The store is enormous, so you really have to come ready to sift through stuff. Racks seem to be organized by color, not size. If you have the patience for that, there can be good finds. I have found many higher-end modern brands, all in excellent condition. My best find recently was a new with tags Ann Taylor bridesmaid dress that retailed for $265, and I paid $6! Mixed in are of course the vintage finds you'd expect, from 60s era through 90s. They don't appear to have fitting rooms. They can be very busy on weekends. But overall, worth a visit if you have the time and patience. read more

What a disappointment this place was today. Until about ten years ago, I visited this place regularly with my mom. The prices were good and she and I bought lots of things at each visit. While it's still fairly clean and well-stocked, mostly with clothes, the prices are at least twice that of other thrift stores. I'll not be back. read more

Most times it has good deals. Can usually find a bargain. However, it's starting to become a little pricey.

Several reasons why will NEVER go back to this store. 1. MY WALLET WAS STOLEN OUT OF MY SHOPPING CART, while my purse was under the pile of clothes I had gathered, and while I was standing right next to my shopping cart the entire time. This was about two weeks ago, and looking back, I know it was the lady standing next to me who so kindly asked me to let her know if I find any large shirts. She stole my wallet, passport, and spent beyond my bank account in a matter of 15 mins. 2. On a completely different occasion - A lady was walking around the store asking every person if we had weed to sell because she smelled it. 3. This store doesn't have jack sh**. Value World doesn't look like much from the outside (especially now [July] with construction going on) but inside there is a ton of, well, value. This isn't the most gleaming store I've ever seen and the customer service varies between very friendly and rather unfriendly, but the bargains are phenomenal, which keeps me coming back. I often buy sheets at Value World to cover random stuff (car seats, furniture) to protect them from pet hair and single sheets run about $1.60. I often find nice designer names amongst the clothing racks and the quality tends to be a little nicer than Salvation Army, though you get the occasional "How'd that get in here?" Lastly, the purses/bag section is awesome! I'm a big housewares kind of gal and I'm always looking for vintage things to resell on ebay and admittedly the housewares at this Value World leave something to be desired. If you need a quick candle holder or ash tray, you'll probably find something, but the Greenfield Road Salvation Army has more selection and I recommend you take a trip up the road for housewares. read more

Absolutely not. The only thing that made this place anything near worthwhile visiting was the friendliness of the employees and the decently organized clothing. As far as what they carry? Heck no. For the sheer size of this establishment I was expecting a way better selection but I quickly found myself disappointed. Unless you are a laborer searching for bare essentials (black shirts, work jeans) then I would stay away from this location. Sure the inventory is cheap, as it very well should be! If you are like me you don't think low prices at a thrift store is a bonus, it is a must. On top of that the low prices shouldn't have to reflect low quality, in everything. It would have taken me hours of searching through the amount of racks they have to be 100% sure there were no awesome finds but I don't have that kind of time. I went through about 15, saw nothing I even remotely liked, then went to track down my guy who was equally as turned off. I ended treating this as a means to find some items for the Halloween costumes I'm working on, no help there either. Though this is my first trip to a straight Detroit thrift I can't imagine this is the norm. Save yourself the time and look for better spots! read more

This place is meh. The parking lot is pretty tripe and littered with trash. I don't care for the set up of this store. It's random sized racks and not easy to navigate. It seems much older and outdated compared to the Southfield location. I went late on a Saturday and the store was an utter mess. I need to have a sense of organization, even if I am picking for treasures. read more

I am a huge thrifter and this store just never hits it for me when I go. I had stopped in on this particular day to pick up some first grade level books for a friend of mine who is a new teacher, and I couldnt find a single one. When I gave up on the books, I decided to look around a bit for some clothing deals, but there were 2 women hogging the only mirror in the corner of the store, and it was impossible to get anywhere near it. I have been to a few others - the one on 8 Mile in Southfield; the one on Ecorse in Taylor; and the one on Toledo-Dix in Southgate. Those are much much better. read more

I was shopping at Value World Store on coolidge at 9 Mile Rd in Oak Park in July 2019 and someone stole my brand new cell phone out of my purse plus a envelope with 50 ne-dollar bills. I was so dissappointed and i went and told management. Another customer had warned me a monthvearlier that all they do there is steal out of customers purses. Sorry i didn't listen. Iblet my guard downbthat day. So if you wantbto shop there make sure you have a very long strapped purse and wear it around your neck and shoulder. read more

I just walked out because I saw a CRT TV for $35.00, and used, raggedy dresses for $25.00 (that you can get new for the same price).

I went to this store on June 14th 2018 and had an amazing experience. I found everything that I was looking for in their wide selection. The employees were very kind in addition. I forgot her name but the lady who checked me out was very nice and answered all of our questions. read more

I'm not one much for buying clothes at these stores and mainly go for the electronics, toys, appliances, etc. Recently there has been a change there (Oak Park store on Coolidge) for the worse - maybe new management. The prices on these items seem to have skyrocketed and they are just not worth the prices they are charging. For example, there was a no name cordless drill with a bad battery and charger for over $20. I spoke with them and said I recently bought a brand name drill and battery from your Madison Heights store for $6. Their reply was if I have a half off coupon, it's worth it. Hopefully as time goes on they will realize their mistake, but for now it's just not worthwhile to go in there for these items. read more

My wallet was stolen out of my purse in this store and the manager couldn't have cared less. A few weeks later a cashier said yet another customer had their purse taken out of their cart. GET a security guard!! read more
