Great value...found a good suit for $32 that ended up costing me a bit to be fitted but where can you get a quality suit for that?

Extremely overpriced. Over $10 for plain long sleeves shirts that are not high-end brands. Most worn shirts over $10. Pickering and Whitby Value Village much more reasonable prices for comparable product. read more

Today I donated a very expensive chair. While the item was kindly being removed from my car i observed the following which I find disturbing. There was a huge amount of outdoor wood chairs, perhaps as many as 15. I saw a staff member putting several if the chairs in a walk in dumpster. I asked the staff member assisting me if they were being thrown away. The furniture manager of the store told me too many had been donated and were indeed being thrown away. Im 69, a senior, a widow, on pension, experiencing difficulties with today's economic crisis and managing on our Canadian pension. I asked the manager since he was throwing them away, could I have 2 of these chairs as I could really use them. Remember they are headed for the land fill. I was promptly told NO. I would have to wait until the chairs being kept, we're priced and placed on the sales floor. I have shopped at Value Village a lot. I have recently moved and done a lot of purging of my personal items, several loads full in my SUV. I THINK its time the community find elsewhere to donate items. The prices are getting too expensive. We are being charged sales tax on items donated which was already tax when sold originally. Since we provide the inventory to Value Village and receiving a crap 20 percent discount, the discount for giving inventory should be 40 percent. I wish everyone would get together and set a time period for an organized BOYCOTT to register this is wrong and needs to be corrected. For those who don't know. Clothing that isn't sold is being bundled, sold and shipped to other countries. I have seen glasses and dishes thrown into garbage containers, to be broken since they didn't sell. Value Village need to rethink their policies and procedures. read more

Apparently if you're in the same car even if you're from different households you can only have one coupon? New implementation? I don't know but sounds ridiculous to me. You're still going to take two different bags of donations and skimp out on the coupon. Terrible. Just because you're in the same car doesn't mean you're together. Each person should be able to get their own coupon if they each bring a bag. read more

Very poor and rude service, the machines for cash are always down you have to wait 2 minutes or more mostly more for someone to help you at cashier check out. Today had only one item was waiting in cashier lane while she serviced person in front, when it was my turn she said she had to go over to the Machines to help people there so I would have to wait. I waited over 15 minutes to get served was very disappointed. Twice I was told would have to wait, then the cashier lane that I was originally in opened up again with 2 people ahead of me from where the machines where came over to also pay cash. This was very frustrating as it was another 10 minutes before I left value village Ajax store, will not be returning to this store again felt very disappointed if my husband had not wanted this purchase I would have put it back and left as I have done this previously in the last week. I have not had such poor service. read more

We really like to go to value village. However we have noticed over the years that the prices have skyrocketed. Sometimes I see things that are from the dollarama and they are priced for $6. The Hawking and keeping things... Probably from the workers that work there. Is not cool. Years ago I would get some amazing finds for my collection. For example toys. medium sized store with bad overpriced inventory, mostly noname and brands such as ardene, george, f21, ancient h&m, reitmanns, streetstyle society and bluenotes. I was looking at a bluenotes shirt w nice colours before realising it was 9.99? LOL. not even bnwt. I did see one wilfred shirt for 6.49 though and some mens adidas pants for 6.99 so I really am unsure what to think about persons who price their items. Heard at least three people saying they got something cheaper for retail price than their price or complaining about crazy prices at this location in general before walking out empty handed. I won't ever be making the trip back, left without purchases. read more

I admit it. I used to be one of those people that was all squeamish about shopping for stuff at Value Village. I guess the stigma attached to "discount shopping" was tough to overlook during my younger years. It's funny how I never felt the same way about rummaging through piles of stuff in vintage shops on Queen West though. :p Now that I've grown up and have resolved some of my idiosyncrasies, I have finally come to grips with the recycled suburban lifestyle. As a mom of a rapidly sprouting 10 month old baby girl, it was pretty shocking to see a bunch of shirts I just bought a few weeks ago for her no longer fits. And at about $15- $20 a shirt, the vision of our dwindling retirement savings was hard to ignore. And since we already had a bunch of hand-me-downs from her older cousins, picking up more stuff from Value Village seemed like a natural extension to keep her drawers stocked with proper fitting clothes. So we braved a rain storm and visited this location on Harwood. I tend to prefer driving out East to shop than into the city since there never seems to be a parking issue in the burbs. And this was the same story here. This Value Village is located off of Harwood Ave just north of Kingston Rd. There is ample parking and since the store is in a newish looking plaza, it looked well-managed from outside. Walking into the store, the cleanliness and the tidiness continued to the inside, with well-labeled rows of clothing, household items, movies and other miscellaneous items on good display. After browsing the baby isles for about 30 min, we scored some adorable long sleeve shirts, a sweatshirt and a couple of pairs of cozy sweatpants. And the grand total came to........drum roll........a whopping $23 including tax. That's 7 items!!! Even on the best of sales, all of these things would have easily cost over $60+. I must say, visit to this Value Village has definitely made a convert out of me and I will definitely be returning for more items soon. read more

Fellow treasure hunters buyer beware! Unfortunately this location tends to think there more like eBay online then an actual thrift store. If your looking for bargains there far and from between. Mangers are on power trips and line the pockets of corporate greed. Used shoes for $60-$70, used video games for $30-$50 used music instruments for $100-$350, used computers for $300 plus. Anything the looks decent store checks eBay Sometimes there's a deal though but you gotta get lucky. A lot of regulars here so it's very competitive. Enjoy the hunt. Cheers. read more
