I had a few jobs done here. Started with a new battery. The battery was fine. They did front-end work and changed struts and shocks. I had the car back in due to blowing out a strut. I also asked that the rear light bulbs be replaced. A couple of tail lights were replaced. Not the third brake light. Two are burnt in the brake light. I called David, asking that they be done. He informed me that it would be fifty dollars. For two bulbs!! I had already paid $50.00. The work was incomplete. I would have gladly changed the bulbs for free to keep my customer. Good PR. David's greed surprises his judgment. I said goodbye, I'm disabled and I would do them myself. David's attitude lost a customer who plans to have more work done. Not in this shop! read more

I took my car in to have a simple brake job done. They did the pads and resurface the rotors. After getting my car back, the brakes were grinding very loudly. I called back to let them know that and they said that I should bring it back in and probably have had new rotors put on it which they should've done the first time and not resurface the old rotors in my opinion. After bringing it back in, they kept it the whole day and charged me another $400 for new rotors. I left and they seemed fine but are now still grinding very loudly. I don't know what they're doing or not doing but the brakes are not coming out, right. For a business that has 4 1/2 stars on yelp and has been there for 25 years, I expected more. I would recommend going to a different mechanic and not waste your time going back to this place several times. read more

Amazing company with amazing workers! Me and my partner had bad luck all at once. My car was broken into with parts ripped out and smashed, and my girlfriends car had multiple parts fail all at once. This happened within a few days and Value Services, specifically the owner, Doc and David, were there to be flexible, supportive, caring and fast with our cars. I called them for advice to get my car to start, and they were able to work around my budget with multiple solutions. I've been to a few car repair places and this one is the best. I traveled from NYC to Chicago to visit family and had a number of issues with my older BMW that I had put off dealing with in New York. Value Service (where my brother has been taking his cars for years) worked step by step to repair the various issues that had plagued my car for years. The mechanics were diligent and attentive. I brought my 1999 manual transmission CRV to Value Services for a long time and gave it to my nephew when it had close to 200,000 miles on it. After several years without a car, I needed one for a new job and family demands. I brought my new HRV to a downtown honda dealer for warranty service and for a while afterwards because it was convenient. I finally decided to return to Dak for service and am so glad I did. They are honest, reasonable, and stand behind their work. I recently had my car checked out before my first post-pandemic road trip. One of my tires needed replacement, and on my way back home, the TPMS light was on. I returned the next day and after some time, it was determined that the spare tire's sensor went off and the spare tire pressure was low. Quick fix and I was off on my trip. Dac Tran, the owner of "Value Services" automotive repair shop, ripped me off big time I went to him primarily to change some lights which had burnt out on both the front and rear of my car. He repaired all lights and all was fine for two months. At the two month mark, I had two more lights out (a turn signal one and a break light). I took it in, and he fixed them. Yet another two months later, I had two lights out AGAIN. I wondered, why were my lights going out so often? I checked my receipts from this place, and realized that Dac Tran had fixed the SAME lights all three times I went in. What that means: two lights that he repaired on my car malfunctioned after only two months. Was it his fault? Well, I took my car into another mechanic, and he checked the lights. A shocking discovery was made: the bulbs had not burnt out. They were just put in the sockets so loosely (or otherwise incorrectly) that they naturally would "go out" after a couple months. My jaw dropped when I heard that. I had officially been had, ripped off, screwed over. BEWARE of this scam. Depending on your car, your lights should last around a year. THESE GUYS WILL RIP YOU OFF! (To end on a somewhat better note, Tran and company were always nice to me, and even touched up my paint for free. Is there any honesty in the whole industry? Dac and Mike who run the garage are honest and up front about all work they perform. Their philosophy is if it ain't broke don't fix it. I was introduced to Dac over six years ago by a long standing customer. This is a no frills type of place. No fancy plasma TVs and gourmet coffee in the waiting room at all! These guys are on top of their game! When they can fix it,they fix it, When they can't,they'll tell you. These guys are upfront,honest,reliable. As the owner of 2 older cars ( a '68 280SE Benz and a '93 600 Benz) I've had more than my share of repair shops. The body shop at VALUE took my '68,painted it using the exact specs from MB-the price was good,the work superior. That was over 8 years ago-no bubbles,no chipping. Still an eye catcher. Excellent all the way around with the repairs as well. The '93 is highly temperamental and technical so I have a "600" specialist for this one. If you have a regular car with issues, this is the place to go. Good price, great work. Dac does have one habit you may not be used to (from a mechanic)- he can look you in the eye. The headlight socket plugs in my Prius had melted so my headlights were not reliable. I went to Toyota for a quote and they said 254 each or a total of 508. I went down the street to Value Services, they advertise on their sign they do electrical work and asked them about changing the wires. They replaced both for 100. I am totally thrilled to find a great car place so close to home. The only reason for not giving 5 stars is that they said they would call when they were done and they did not call, which kind of messed up my schedule. They were prompt, and provided excellent service at a great price. read more

excellent service! quick, friendly, and very reasonably priced. didn't feel gouged as i usually do, and didn't have to wait to get my car looked at. my brake lights had gone out, and my driver's side door lock was broken. with tests, parts and 2 hours of labor, my total came out to less than $200 and everything was fixed well. i was treated with respect by all of the employees. i've been looking for a mechanic like this, but didn't think they existed in chicago. i will always take my car here from now on! read more
