I ABSOLUTELY love Val's, all their pastries are made with so much passion and effort, you can see the bakers are incredibly talented and proud of what they do. I am so happy they are getting the love they deserve, they have been putting their blood, sweat and tears into their baking these past couple of days. I know they have been doing absolutely everything to try to suffice their recent success. Please anyone who is interested or thinking of going to Val's soon, they are to the brim with work and while they have upped their production, their process is still the same and cannot be rushed, this is the prize to pay for amazing for amazing parties. They might be very busy and sold out pretty early and that is just the truth of it. I know they are doing everything they can to make as many pastries but a small downtown pastry shop can only do so much. Please keep that in mind. Dayton loves Val's!! read more

Everything about Val's is amazing. The European quality, the variety, the ambiance, the friendliness of the staff, is all top tier. As with any high-quality baked items: things are baked fresh and daily, so get there early to ensure you can get your hands on your favorite items! Went a few days ago after the blew up on Instagram. The wait was as long as you'd expect given their new found attention and I'm surprised there was anything left. They were completely out of anything in the croissant section, but I was absolutely blown away by the Frosted Lemon Ube cake and the frosted blueberry oatmeal cookie. I ordered the tiramisu cold brew with oat milk and it went well with the treats. The best part of all of this though was the shelves of books and the local varieties sold up front. I thought it was a great way to highlight other local businesses and such a pleasant vibe. We'll definitely make an attempt to come visit more, wait and all. read more

Well, believe the other posts warnings and get to Val's early if you would like to choose from a selection of pastries and goodies. Unfortunately, I did not take heed to the warnings and arrived to a nearly empty display. There were only 3 options which did not appeal to my palate. So I opted for an iced matcha latte with almond milk, which was fine. I appreciate the matcha was not pre-sweetened but I know that's not everyone's jam (hello low calorie sweetener and fewer calories). The staff was pleasant enough working through issues with their systems going down. I will need to return and wait in the line that's out the door and down the street. I did notice there's not much room in the entry way so if there is more than 5 people in line, other patrons will need to stand in line outside the door which may be a deterrent for some. It's a small space so there is not a great deal of seating inside but Val's does have outdoor seating for those mild days. I won't take off due to the fact the were basically sold out of everything or the technical issues. Val's bakery, I will be back! Sidenote -- Plant people will feel right at home with all the indoor greenery throughout the little place. read more

I don't even know where to start explaining how I have a low key crush on this place. I went to Val's before it got very popular. I'm happy for them, but also slightly sad bc now the secret is out and I literally have to time it right to get my hands on their precious baked goodness. I'm particularly fond of their croissant flavored anything and that caprese croissant has come from heaven, I swear. The workers are always super sweet. I love their coffee, too. The shop is adorable and decorative. Nice place to pop a squat in or outside while eating your awesome treats. It does get hella busy now that the cat is out of the bag on this place. Just be patient. I believe it's worth it and you'll see me happily lined up in the wee morn for my fix. If so, say hi to me and we can chat it up in line together while we salivate over our sweet selections. read more

Formerly a pop-up called Val's Home Kitchen, the owner Paige has now moved to a brick-and-mortar location inside 'Dished!' I ordered a variety of items and loved every single one of them, from the 'crack bites' which live up to their name to the delicately flavored and textured doughnuts. Updated review! This is not cute coffee shop, but a bakery! I loved the vibe inside and it was very warm and welcoming. They do not have an espresso maker, but they will have one soon! I ended up getting a cold brew and it was very good but they did not have a lot of options as far as coffee drinks go, I loved the cold brew and will definitely get it again! They also suggest that you should get there earlier if you would like a pastry because they run out fast. The Earl Gray blueberry scone was very tasty and I would definitely get it again. read more

I have only visited Val's once and it was on a busy weekend, however the pastries and coffee were excellent. I'm looking forward to going back and trying more food and seasonal coffee drinks. The space looks small in the front, but they have a spacious back room where others go to study, read or socialize with a little more privacy. I ordered the cookie butter latte with oat milk and it was sooo good! A little on the sweeter side, but that was fine with me. I also had the earl grey, blueberry scone. It was soft and moist (sry), not overly dry like most scones you'd get at other places. It also packed a punch with flavor! Highly recommend Val's! read more

Maybe the day my boyfriend and I went here, it was an off day. It was very hyped up on social media to be the best bakery in Ohio. We learned upon entry that the menu is different every day. We didn't care for the options when we went but tried two pastries and two coffees anyway. All 4 items were extremely sweet. They weren't bad, but overhyped in our opinion. read more

I visited Val's before they went viral on a not very busy Friday morning. I will say that their pastries are worth the hype. I wish their drink menu was a little more expansive, but that's not really a deal breaker. What did rub me the wrong way though was how they handle their coffee service. The announcements for the drinks (if there were any) were not loud. And no re-announcements were made. So my friend had no idea her drink was ready when we stepped outside to eat our pastries. Most coffee shops I've been to will continue to let people know their drinks are waiting or at the very least have the drinks labeled with names to avoid the question of "is this my drink?" read more

The food is great! The drinks are amazing! And the workers seem to really know what they're doing. Most parts of this place are very nice except for the behind the register. It just looks a little unfinished. If you're looking for a variety of pastries, or have picky kids I wouldn't recommend. read more

We there on a Sunday around 10:30 am and the line was at least 30 deep. It was about a 20 minute. They will run out some items. We got the Caprese, Garlic Focaccia and Monkey Bread. All were great and Cappuccino was one of the best I've had, here or in Italy. Highly recommend!! read more

One of the absolute worst experiences I've had at a bakery. We waited in line for an hour and a half just to get to the counter and there be almost nothing left. I understand that a place so busy will run out of food, but I'd expect if you're running low you'd go out to the line and let people know so they don't wait over an hour for nothing. I stopped after running a 5K in Dayton this morning. I got a cup of drip coffee (black) and it was really good, it was not bitter but very smooth. I also got their breakfast sammy with bacon & cheddar, the bread it came with was very good and complimented the whole sandwich. While it has a small dining area inside it is very nicely spaced and comfortable, plus there is seating outside when the weather is nice. I've traveled to 4 different countries and 24 states. No bakery comes close to the quality Val's has. I visited Val's the day of their opening on St Clair St and since then I've been hooked. I really enjoy the pastries at Val's. I went over the weekend and loved the new space. However, I was a little disappointed with the service. I had a few questions, since it was my first time. They had bagels- so I asked if they had cream cheese. They acted like it was the craziest thing they have ever heard. I got a cold brew that was similar to a tall sized at Starbucks- $6 is crazy. I got coffee cake which was delicous- will definately come back just for this. I understand that they are a new business trying to figure things out. I find the asking custumers to donate for a new espresso machine a bit crazy- that is a business expense that you should predict. After seeing the viral TikTok video featuring Val's, we had to make a trip! They were sold out of a few of our choices (understandably so, as the place was popping!). We were able to try the classic honey cake, frosted lemon ube, savory focaccia, and the seasonal mango matcha and tiramisu cold brew. The food and drinks were well worth the wait, the staff were so friendly, and we loved the book collection for kids/adults to read while sitting! We cannot wait to go back! read more
